Bug#340440: Bad Server Response leads to "Cannot get POP

2005-11-23 Thread Jerome Lacoste
Package: evolution
Version: 2.4.1-3
Severity: important

I am trying to read my mail from a remote server.

I ssh tunneled the pop server to a local port and configured evolution
to use POP to access this local port.

I get the following message: "Cannot get POP Summary: Success".
This is perhaps due to the server disconnecting.

Pretty strange, right?

Looking at the console I get:

(evolution:17821): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_progress_set_percentage:
assertion `percentage >= 0 && percentage <= 1.0' failed

(evolution:17821): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_progress_set_percentage:

(evolution:17821): camel-pop3-provider-WARNING **: Bad server response:

The mail server is Apache James 2.1.2. I have no problem reading my mail
using mutt on the same port, although the connection sometimes cuts, but
mutt reconnects correctly.

There are around 1100 mails on that mail account. Didn't try with evo
2.2. Please advise what to do next.

Bug#339567: rebuild multysync for experimental?

2005-11-21 Thread jerome lacoste
libmultisync-plugin-evolution needs to be built against libebook1.2-5
instead of libebook1.2-3 and deployed in experimental.

2 questions:

- I tried changing the source package to point to the new libebook,
but it seems that this information is not in the package, but found at
runtime. The package only depends on libebook1.2. I guess there's not
much I can do...

- Could the priority be increased? Otherwise when evolution 2.4 goes
into unstable, multisync will be broken (as it is for me right now,
using experimental).

Thanks

Jerome

Bug#339567: libebook1.2-3 should depend on libcamel1.2-6

2005-11-16 Thread Jerome Lacoste
Package: libebook1.2-3

libmultisync-evolution depends on libebook1.2-3 which depends on
libcamel1.2-0 which conflicts with libcamel1.2-6 required by the latest
evolution from
experimental.

Either libebook1.2-3 needs to be rebuilt or repackaged so that
libmultisync-evolution can be installed and work with the latest
evolution.

Bug#328418: running it

2005-10-16 Thread jerome lacoste
Hi.

just to say that I managed to get evo 2.4 running on evol by tweaking
and using ubuntu libgal packages.
That was just before I found out that my home sarge server got hacked :(

For those who want to perform the operation, here's a short and long
description:

- download ubuntu's packages for libgal-2.4
- unpackage
- tweak control file
- repackage
- install

If you screw up, you can downgrade doing

apt-get install libgal2.4-common=2.4.3-1.1 libgal2.4-0=2.4.3-1.1

Detailed install:

wget ubuntu_mirror_repos//libgal2.4-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
wget ubuntu_mirror_repos//libgal2.4-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Then

mkdir -p libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/DEBIAN
dpkg-deb -x libgal2.4-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386
dpkg-deb -e libgal2.4-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/DEBIAN/
vi libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/DEBIAN/control
// change names and references from libgal2.4 to libgal
// add a Replaces: libgal2.4-0
dpkg -b libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/ libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

mkdir -p libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/DEBIAN
dpkg-deb -x libgal2.4-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386
dpkg-deb -e libgal2.4-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb
libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/DEBIAN/
vi libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/DEBIAN/control
// change names and references from libgal2.4 to libgal
// add a Replaces: libgal2.4-common
dpkg -b libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386/ libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

dpkg -i libgal-common_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb libgal-0_2.5.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

install the experimental packages.

Voila. Hope that helped. Now I've got to check my server.

Jerome

Bug#328418: libgal-common still missing

2005-10-15 Thread Jerome Lacoste
I saw those patches here:
http://people.ubuntu.com/~scott/patches/gal2.4/

So I tried to install ubuntu's packages, but it seems like they are
named after the gal version version (libgal2.4-common instead of
libgal-common).

So evolution is still not installable.

It's been over a month now :) Any chance we can get the last remaining
unavailable dependency to be uploaded somewhere?

Or at least an alternative given to those who want to try the latest
evolution?

Thanks.

Jerome

Bug#325569: beagle: memory/performance hog?

2005-08-29 Thread Jerome Lacoste
Package: beagle
Version: 0.0.12-2
Severity: important

Running beagle on my Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop is . Althought the functionality
is working as advised (once you
wait for your data to be indexed), the beagled is using so much memory that it
makes my dayly use of my desktop
much less usable.
The beagle daemon takes around 80-100M of redisent memory, making it the most
important running and
used application.
Its scanning activity makes at least one of my applications unable to start
(Intellij IDEA, a closed
source java IDE). By unable I mean after 2 min, my application has not yet
displayed any GUI. Closing beagled
solves the issue. Repeatable issue.

Note my kernel doesn't have inotify yet, so that may be a reason as to the poor
performance.
Will report with 2.6.13 as soon as it is out in Debian unstable.

I would expect an helper application to not become the central resource hog of
my system.

Si I found them out on http://debian-amd64.madduck.net/ (now defunct)
similar to http://ftp.ankara.edu.tr/debian-amd64/install-images/

My understanding is: there have been some changes in the way debian
amd64 is distributed early this month, and the last built images are
only available on the mirrors. They disappeared from the main site and
the mirrors have propagated it, but some less fast to update mirrors
still have it. Feel free to correct me if my understanding is wrong.

So I've used expert mode with sarge-amd64-netinst.iso dated 29th of
April. I encountered several problems:

(W) * failure to load 3 ide related modules (ide-cd, ...). Not sure if
this was the cause of my other issues.

(E) * ethernet detection was failing. I found out that many modules for
my kernel had not been correctly loaded. I

Bug#293150: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686: 3c509 module fails with 2.6.x kernels

2005-02-01 Thread Jerome Lacoste
Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-2-686
Severity: important

I am not able to upgrade to 2.6.x kernels on my sarge server.
The machine boots OK to the prompt, but networking doesn't work.

ping my router results in:

>From 192.168.0.5 icmp_sq=310 Destination Host Unreachable

tethereal log:
0.0123456  192.168.0.5 -> BroadcastARP Who has 192.168.0.1? Tell 192.168.0.5

- ping from another box on LAN to server doesn't work

- ifconfig eth0 shows UP and RUNNING.

I had another card on the box, working with dmfe driver. This one worked so
I've stopped fiddling with the 3c509

Anything I can do to help diagnose the problem?

J

Bug#256008: I think it's fixed

2005-01-10 Thread Jerome Lacoste
maks,

On the other side, i've had a motherboard change on the machine. I think
that it fixed the problem. I haven't had a reboot since. Sorry for
forgetting about the bug.

BTW, I don't see 2.6.10 in unstable.

Cheers,

Jerome
