Bug#890638: libreoffice-calc: Freezes while saving

2018-02-16 Thread John Kirk
Package: libreoffice-calc
Version: 1:5.2.7-1+deb9u2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

When saving a document after being edited the Calc freezes almost always. It
happens either when it autosaves the document or it is done manually.
The Calc uses 100% of the CPU core while saving and continiously increases its
memory usage. That has been tested on different PCs with XFCE, Gnome and Mate
as DE.

The document is OK since it works always well on the same Calc version in
Debian Jessie that is from backports.

I think it is connected to GTK since after removing libreoffice-gtk
libreoffice-gtk2 libreoffice-gtk3 it saves OK.

The Calc 5.4.5 from libreoffice.com saves always well, but after saving it
becomes very slow while scrolling. After reopening the saved document the
scrolling is fast. In the Calc 5.2.7 without the gtk packages the scrolling is
fast either before saving the document or after.

Kind Regards,
John Kirk

Hello,

It was an icon issue that is why it was reported against breeze.
I stopped testing KDE.

Then you should report it upstream at https://bugs.kde.org as
Debianisn't ina position to fix it. If you do or
find an existing bug describing theproblem, could
you report that back so we can update Debian's BTS?We should then
also get notified when the issue is (or should be) resolved.

Ok. I will do it . But this is from Debian Developer's Reference:

"A big part of your job as Debian maintainer will be to stay in
contactwith the upstream developers. Debian users will
sometimes report bugs thatare not specific to Debian to our bug
tracking system. You have to forwardthese bug reports to the
upstream developers so that they can be fixed in afuture
upstream release."

Bug 365690:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=365690

I think that this issue should be reassigned to kaccessible, which
btw is a kde4 based app, so it won't gain proper HiDPI support till
it's migrated to kf5. Is there any particular reason why this is
reported against breeze? Is this issue not reproducible when you are
using a different theme?

Hola John Kirk!

If possible, it would be nice if you could just reply to the emails you
get, so
that they show up as part of the same conversation for us. When you do
the
"Followup-For" they create new conversations and make it hard to follow
which
mails belong to which issues.

Cinnamon-screensaver is 3.0.1-1
New user is created and screenshot is attached. Still unusable - half
of window
at bottom left.

That screenshot is confusing, is that all that was on the screen? Or
did it
somehow get cut?

Could you take a screenshot (for this same dummy user) that shows the
Display
tool?

Also, can you attach the output of xrandr?

Finally, is HiDPI getting selected automatically or have you selected
manually?

Hello,

The follow-ups have been done by the report bug tool. Probably a bug is
here since i used the reply button.

The screenshot was cut for reducing the size. It shows the full bottom
left corner of the screen (second screenshot from this bug report).

Now i can't take a screenshot from Debian testing (removed), but the
config is the same so there are 2 screenshots from Debian stable +
backported Cinnamon. I think they are actual since the bug is also here
(1 screenshot from this bug report).

HiDPI works from installation so it is selected automatically. User
interface scaling option is set to Auto.

I also ask you to consider this bug :
https://lists.debian.org/debian-backports/2016/09/msg00026.html

Best wishes,

Hello,

I can confirm that the bug is still in testing (as of today). Screenshot 2.
Looks like it thinks that the display is 4 times bigger and shows only
1/4.

Best wishes,
John

Dear Maintainer,

Additional info:

The running window of a virtual machine should be maximized (not fullscreen,
not the virt-manager window).

There is also another way to reproduce it:

1) Open terminal
2) gpg -c somefile.txt
3) When you will see the window for a password try to open an application
through cinnamon menu,
change workspace through the applet or the right button menu on the desktop.

Dear Maintainer,

Looks like there is a bug with show text in icons option in Nemo. I have tried

themes except Gnome and Adwaita.

In Cinnamon testing it doesnt show text at all.

Best wishes,
John

2016-10-11 Thread John Kirk
Package: cinnamon
Version: 3.0.7-1
Followup-For: Bug #838526

Dear Maintainer,

I looked at nemo preview options in Linuxmint 18. It is Edit -> Preferences ->
Preview -> Show text in icons which is set to Never. In Debian it is Local
Files Only.

Is it better when this option is set by default to Never?

There are still no icon at all for the menu -> recent files.

Best wishes,
John

Dear Maintainer,

The load on system is low.

Found out that this happens when a virtual machine is started and the window is
active. When it is minimized or not active (click on desktop) cinnamon works
well.

When bug happens cinnamon works well after ctrl+alt+F7.

Best wishes,
John

Bug#838526: [pkg-cinnamon] Bug#838526: cinnamon: Adwaita icons not used right

Hi!

Thanks for reporting.

El Miércoles 21 Septiembre 2016 22:53 CEST, John Kirk
<john.k...@vfemail.net> Ha escrito:

The Adwaita icon theme not used right. As an example look at the icon
/etc/adduser.conf in Cinnamon and Gnome. In the first case it is a
blank sheet,
in the second it is a texted sheet.

The icon that you see depends on the icon theme you are using, not only
the
desktop environment.  Are you testing this both on Cinnamon and GNOME
using
adwaita as the icon them?

Could you maybe send a couple of screenshots, one from GNOME and one from
Cinnamon, where you show both the icon that you see and the icon theme
that is
set in each?  This would help understand the problem better.

ThanksMarga

Hello,

Yes, the adwaita icon theme is used in both DE.

The screenshots are attached.

There is also no icon at all in Menu -> Recent Files submenu.

Best wishes,
John

Bug#837459: liferea: When the main window resized (bigger) Liferea doesn't save pane configuration

2016-09-11 Thread John Kirk
Package: liferea
Version: 1.10.12-1
Severity: important

Hello,

When the main window resized (bigger) Liferea doesn't save pane configuration
on startup.

Let's my new height of the itemlist pane be 150. In dconf-editor it is org->
gnome->liferea-> last-hpane-pos (150).

Log out -> log in. Lifera always starts in tray not dependent on settings and
the height of the itemlist is one line.

Looks like it is this case: https://github.com/lwindolf/liferea/issues/158

Best wishes,
John

Sorry, about which settings are you talking about?
Are you only able to reproduce this issue in cinnamon?

It sounds like more like a feature than a bug.

Happy hacking,

Then you should report it upstream at https://bugs.kde.org as Debian
isn't in
a position to fix it. If you do or find an existing bug describing the
problem,
could you report that back so we can update Debian's BTS?We should then

Ok. I will do it . But this is from Debian Developer's Reference:

"A big part of your job as Debian maintainer will be to stay in contact
with the upstream developers. Debian users will sometimes report bugs
that are not specific to Debian to our bug tracking system. You have to
forward these bug reports to the upstream developers so that they can be
fixed in a future upstream release."

While this doesn't sound like a clear-cut case of mixing 5.22 and 5.23

https://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2016/07/msg00065.htmlmakes a
difference?

Thank you for the information. This is a long time issue. I decided to

Bug#831323: breeze: kaccessibleapp icon

2016-07-14 Thread John Kirk
Package: breeze
Version: 4:5.6.5-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

The kaccessibleapp icon on a default panel (36 size) is bigger than blue
underlining of a status & notificatios menu.

There is also i think probably a bug with the panel size. When installed on a
new system it is smaller than a new default panel which size is 36.

Also when changing fonts DPI to a higher value the panel size doesn't change.
The QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR environment variable is set to 1.

Best wishes,
John

Bug#827505: plasma-desktop: Sound of notifications at 100% when volume is set at 0%

2016-06-16 Thread John Kirk
Package: plasma-desktop
Version: 4:4.11.13-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

1) Set volume at 0%.

2) Open dolphin -> create new text file.

3) Right button -> move to trash -> trash (no sound) -> right button on trash
in places -> empty trash -> empty trash (here is 100% sound). The volume
becomes 100% after this operation.

4) If the empty trash operation is done with some unnatural pause then it is
without sound.

Best wishes,
John

Bug#827493: dolphin: Dolphin doesnt respect firefox as default browser and the wrong level of a sound notification

2016-06-16 Thread John Kirk
Package: dolphin
Version: 4:16.04.1-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

1) I checked firefox as default browsder. Firefox -> preferences -> general ->
Always check if Firefox is your default browser

System settings -> Default Applications -> Web browser -> open http and https
URLs - in an application based on contents of the URL

2) Open dolphin -> in the address line write http://distrowatch.com -> starts
Konqueror

3) System settings -> Default Applications -> Web browser -> open http and
https URLs - in the following browser -> manually written firefox. Then it
works, but other apps don't need this option.

4) System settings -> Default Applications -> Web browser -> open http and
https URLs - in the following browser -> button "..." -> Internet -> Firefox
ESR.

Here starts more complex problem: 1) Set sound level at 0%
 2) Open dolphin -> in the adress line
write http://distrowatch.com -> a new window starts "Could not find the program
'firefox-esr.desktop" with sound notification at 100%.

Best wishes,
John Kirk

Can you please repeat the test after installing phonon4qt5 >= 4.9.0,
are you using the gstreamer or the vlc backend?

Is the problem reproduceable if you set:
flat-volumes = no
in the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf (you'll need close your current session,
kill any running pulseaudio and start a new session to test this)

Happy hacking,

Dear Maintainer,

When running sudo dolphin, it starts in unusable form without style and

QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap ...

My general recommendation is to avoid running graphical applications as
root.

The kde applications require a working XDG environment which is lost
using the default env_reset sudo setting, at the same time in needs a
dbus connection for the running user, so you'll need at least:

sudo -E dbus-launch --exit-with-session dolphin

But this will use the configuration files for the user to run the
dolphin as root, which is probably what you want, as you might end up
creating configuration files with the wrong owner in your home directory.

The tool kdesu takes care of creating a valid environment for the
subprocesses, while using the configuration files of the target user,
although it's installed as a rather inconvenient location (
/usr/lib/*/libexec/kf5/kdesu ).

And you would need run:
kwriteconfig5 --file kdesurc --group  super-user-command --key
super-user-command sudo

To use sudo, as the default in Debian is to use su.

We might want to reconsider the installation path of kdesu, and if
possible rename it to kdesu5.

There is also a bug in kdesud (http://bugs.debian.org/807399), that
checks for the file being setgid for the nogroup group (which seems to
be a non sense test and upstream answer about it was not reassuring at
all for process that is supposed to cache the passwords given to it).

Hi,

To reproduce in Calc and Writer: View -> Full screen, then in Full
screen mode -> press button "Full screen", repeat all again. Top bars
don't hiding in second case. I thought libreoffice-base is for all

Hi,

Found out that problem occurs in Gnome, in another it is ok.

Hey,

I use the default version of Desktop Enviroment - Gnome.
Login and password typed manually many times, there are no mistakes.
Blaucloud uses 8.2.1 (stable) version.

the 8.1 > version is known to dislike clients with version < 1.7, so you
have
to ask Blaucload if they disabled this "feature" manually. I spoke with
the
developer of owncloud and they say, that there are no real technical
reasons ,
to disable older version, they only want you to use more recent version,
because the newer ons are better.

The other thing to test if you can just use the version out of backports.

Hi John,

Thanks for your report. Could you tell me more to help debug the
problem please? What exact machine are you using? What's the first
build you've seen problems with (the version should be in .disk/info)?
Does it work with the latest stable (8.2.0)?
