Hi, 2006/12/18, Christian Perrier [EMAIL PROTECTED]: (trying to solve an issue in Debian with fonts for the Malayalam language, one of the official languages in India. This language uses its own script. Debian Installer is now translated in Malayalam but we have problems to display Malayalam in D-I due to #403404) There is an updated version of Rachana (it is available with Soumyadeep) which does not have these issues. I could include it in a next NMU of ttf-indic-fonts, aimed at fixing #403404, caused by errors in the Rachana font. Please use the new version of Rachana font (Rachana_w01.ttf) My conclusion currently, about Malayalam fonts is: -The Rachana font (Racotf04) could have potential licensing issues. As you know Etch is in deep freeze and the longer you wait, the greater the chance you will miss the release. Is your work in SVN? Id so maybe I can finish off what needs to be done and do an NMU for you. About the NMU's, I already did some, no problem. The only problem to raise is th elicense issues for the various proposed fonts. The new Rachana Open Type font (Rachana_w01.otf) seems to work well with G-I. However, its license wasnot clear. The font itself has no embedded info about the font being GPL and whichever other license. However, I finally found the answer: http://plus.sarovar.org/contents/fonts/Rachana_w01-LICENSE.txt So, I will go for it and: Include the new Rachana_w01.otf in ttf-malayalam-fonts in place of the older oneand use it in the udeb. The result of this demand was creation of the Anjali Old Lipi font. Whether you remove RacOtf or not, Anjali is a good font, typographically. The font is available from http://indulekha.com/AnjaliOldLipi-0.730.ttf (Note:- that is NOT the upstream site).
