Bug#415216: gnome-control-center: Some event sounds do not work

2007-11-11 Thread Julien Valroff
Hi,

I am not sure if it is the same issue, but after having all event sound
playing normally for a while, the login sound is now never played while
other sounds are ok.

Should I open a new bug for this or is it related?

Cheers!
Julien

reassign 415216 esound-common

I have made some further tests and can now confirm the following:

1/ no event sounds except login sound issue can be fixed by setting
autospawn=1 in /etc/esound/esd.conf - this bug should thus be reassigned
to esd-common, which is now done

2/ No login sound issue is an known issue upstream:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466458

I have compiled current gnome-session (2.20.1-1) with the path attached
to the bug report, and I now get the login sound working - this is thus
a separate bug which should be assigned to gnome-session (I will open a
new bug)

Cheers,
Julien

I even tested with gstreamer-esd and gstreamer-alsa packeges and different
sound systems (OSS, ALSA, ESD) in GNOME sound settings but nothing helped!

It's a little strange!

That's too bad, I'm starting to run out of ideas on this one.

The big difference in gnome-control-center between 2.14 and 2.16/2.18
when it comes to sound is the new gstreamer sound profiles. I don't know
if it can effect esound though. I guess you already tried to play around
with the settings?

Yes, without any results

Another idea could be to try libesd-alsa0 instead of libesd0.

Will try tonight ang let you know.

If this doesn't give any results I suggest waiting for the rest of GNOME
2.18 and then contacting upstream.
I have upgraded another machine this morning as the new version hit
unstable last night, and I notice the same behaviour (totally
different hardware).

I am quite surprised you are not able to reproduce this. I will also
try to dreate a new user with the new version, just in case...

Nothing of what I have tried has lead to positive results. However, it
seems that the event sounds work from time to time (I even thought I had
managed to fix the issue several times). Once they work, they work for
all users until the next reboot.

Hi,

I'm afraid I can't reproduce this bug, all the sound effects seems to
work for me.

How is your sound set up? Are the playback sources in the Devices tab
in Sound Preferences set to Autodetect?
