Bug#439296: brasero doesn't format fresh dvd+rw before burning

2007-09-08 Thread Sven Arvidsson
FYI, I forwarded this bug to the upstream developers of brasero. They
have confirmed the bug and are working on it.

Please do not try to create confusion. I am helping people who believe that they
use my software. This of course needs to include to inform people about bugs
that are specific to forks found in some distributions but not in the original
software.

FYI, the latest versions of cdrecord and mkisofs by Jörg Schilling have
been condemned as non-free software in Debian some months ago. This
gave the birth to a fork of the last free software version under the
name "cdrkit"; cdrkit is the only flavor which Debian supports.

Jörg Schilling wasn't happy about this and this is why he suggested to
you to use his software instead of Debian's.

Bye,

If you definitely use a recent mkisofs, then your problem with

Error: '/home/brent/backup/2007-09-04_12.30.05.790229.VTdebian.ful/ver' and
'/home/brent/backup2/2007-09-04_12.00.03.243951.VTdebian.ful/ver' have the same
Rock Ridge name 'ver'.

is caused by inapropriate CLI parameters.

If you merge more than one directory tree, you need to make sure that the merge
will have different names for all files that go into the merge.

The "genisoimage" that comes with wodim may give this message even in correct
use cases.

Joerg,

please stop filling our BTS with comments which are useless for debian
users.

Thanks,

Bug#439296: brasero doesn't format fresh dvd+rw before burning

2007-09-06 Thread Brent S. Elmer, Ph.D.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are these not the versions of cdrecord and
mkisofs I should be using? I got them from the link in your email.

Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 2.01.01a33 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C)
1995-2007 Jörg Schilling

mkisofs 2.01.01a33 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1993-1997 Eric
Youngdale (C) 1997-2007 Jörg Schilling

As can be seen from my wodim -version and genisoimage -version output,
these are what wodim and genisoimage point to. I figured I had to do it
this way with symbolic links since brasero would be explicitly calling
wodim and genisoimage.

Looks like you did not replace mkisofs/genisoimage

You did not use cdrecord!

You did however still use other buggy software from the debian "cdrkit" package.

2007-09-04 Thread Brent S. Elmer, Ph.D.
I replaced wodim and family and made symbolic links to cdrecord and
mkisofs as can be seen here:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ wodim -version
Cdrecord-ProDVD-ProBD-Clone 2.01.01a33 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C)
1995-2007 Jörg Schilling

mkisofs 2.01.01a33 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1993-1997 Eric
Youngdale (C) 1997-2007 Jörg Schilling

I still get errors when I try and burn a DVD. Attached is the Brasero
error log.

Bug#439296: brasero doesn't format fresh dvd+rw before burning

2007-08-24 Thread Joerg Schilling
Just upgrade to a original cdrtools version.

Cdrecord auto-formats maiden dvd+rw since April 2004.

Cdrecord does not have the bugs from wodim..

http://cdrecord.berlios.de/

If you are looking for a debian compatible package, look here:

http://cdrecord.berlios.de/old/private/linux-dist.html#packages

Bug#439296: brasero doesn't format fresh dvd+rw before burning

2007-08-23 Thread Brent S. Elmer, Ph.D.
Subject: brasero doesn't format fresh dvd+rw before burning
Package: brasero
Version: 0.6.0-2
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Brasero should handle a fresh dvd+rw when burning. When you click on
burn, brasero says there are 0 bytes empty on a brand new dvd+rw disk.
It should format the disk and then burn. If I manually format the dvd
using dvd+rw-format, then brasero will say the disk size is not 0.
