Bug#750648: qpdfview: Search does not work
Hi, I forwarded the bug to the upstream bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/qpdfview/+bug/1328946 As far as the maintainer can tell, this seems to be a limitation of the Poppler PDF library. (Your djvu files might actually not have text embedded in them but only consist of images, in which case the search cannot be expected to work.) I have no idea why for at least one file the search works in epdfview but not qpdfview, because they both use the Poppler library and for the PDF file you sent me, even pdftotext seems to produce garbled output. Are you using epdfview on the same system as qpdfview? If you use it on another system, does the other system have another version of Poppler? Bug#750648: qpdfview: Search does not work
Hi Yoric, thank you for taking the time to report and investigate this problem. If you could answer the following questions, it would probably help tracking down its cause: 1. Does the search not work in all of your russian PDFs? 2. In those PDFs where search does not work, can you copy text from the PDF and paste it to a text file? (If this does not work, the text may actually be part of an image and not properly embedded as text in the PDF.) 3. Could you provide an example file, for which the problem occurs? Best wishes, Benjamin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org
Bug#750648: qpdfview: Search does not work
Hi Yoric, to copy text, you can hold shift and drag a frame. When you release the mouse button, a pop-up menu will give you the option to copy the text in that area. (Unfortunately, qpdfview does not yet support line-wise marking and copying of text, because the corresponding feature is not yet present in the Poppler library and the developer of qpdfview does not want to implement it from scratch, but this should be supported with the next version of Poppler.) 4. Could you check if you can copy text from the PDF file, for which the search does not work? 5. Have you tried the search in okular or evince? 6. Does text search work with English djvu files? Thank you for taking the time for this further investigation. I hope it will help narrow down the problem. Best, Benjamin Hi Benjamin BE 1. Does the search not work in all of your russian PDFs? No, only in one. But acroreader in this file search works. BE 2. In those PDFs where search does not work, can you copy text from the BE PDF and paste it to a text file? (If this does not work, the text may BE actually be part of an image and not properly embedded as text in the PDF.) In qpdfview I can't copy the text in any file (even in English, where the search works), the cursor in the form of arms and the selection does not work. BE 3. Could you provide an example file, for which the problem occurs? Also absolutely does not work search in all Russian .djvu Thanks for attention -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
