Guess what happened...

Bug#750760: bind9: requires -fno-delete-null-pointer-checks on gcc = 4.9

2014-06-06 Thread Robert Edmonds
Package: bind9
Severity: normal

According to [0], bind9 should be compiled with
-fno-delete-null-pointer-checks added to CFLAGS, in order to avoid
certain optimizations that occur when compiled with gcc 4.9 that can
cause the server process to crash. I've also written an article [1] on
the topic with a little more background info.

It might be prudent to have this workaround in bind9 active before the
switch to gcc-4.9 to minimize the possibility of bad binaries reaching
the archive.

Do you have more details, perhaps actual code excerpts which trigger
this? I want to make sure it's not a compiler bug.

I don't have any further details, sorry.
