Bug#770872: smartmontools: smartd sends FailedOpenDevice warnings even for devices marked as removable

2014-11-24 Thread Matthew Gabeler-Lee
Package: smartmontools
Version: 6.3+svn4002-2
Severity: normal

I have several disks configured in smartd.conf (see below) marked as
removable, because they are in external enclosures that are not always
powered on.

It would seem that specifying these devices as removable would be the right
thing to do -- smartd will monitor them when they are present, but not
complain when they are missing.

This works on the initial device scan, but if it ever manages to get them
open, then if they subsequently dissapear, a warning is generated.

Test case:
* Connect removable HDD
* Configure removable HDD in smartd.conf with -d removable
* Restart smartd
* Disconnect removable hdd
* Tell smartd to reload (kill -HUP / service smartmontools reload)

This will generate an unexpected (to me) FailedOpenDevice warning.
