Reporting the Debian package version in the version report is useful,
but I didn't like that it was bundled to the reproducible patch and how
it was implemented. So the quick solution was to just remove that part
from the patch. I have nothing against adding it back as separate
patch.

I would prefer an implementation that is upstreamable. So the vendor
and package version should be injected via setup parameter (e.g. ./setu
p.py --vendor Debian --package-version 2015.8.1+ds-1). Then other
distributions could reuse it.

I want to run "wrap-and-sort" and add a ".patch" suffix to all patches.
Any objections to that?

I'm not sure on the logistics of this - in theory there is the debian salt
team, but that has been very quiet for a long time.

What would we have to do to add you as co-maintainer or similar?

The salt git repository belongs to the pkg-salt Alioth group. I
requested to join the group and someone accepted me. So I have commit
access now and can push the changes that I have so far.

After having commit access, the only remaining thing is to add me to
the uploaders list in debian/control (which I could do myself).

Anything special that I should be aware of regarding this package?

Those changes all look good.

I understand the rationale for removing the "Debian Source Package" from
the reproducible builds patch, but what are your thoughts on continuing to
report the package version in the versions report? Ie including the "Debian
Source Package" reporting in its own patch?

Although it is less useful for "pure" debian machines, it is very helpful
in dealing with issues when people think they are running from
source/packages or have installed packages from the wrong os/release.

There were no progress recently. So I decided to go ahead and prepare
an update to 2015.8.1. This includes adding a salt-proxy package,
requiring python-crypto >= 2.6 and dropping python-m2crypto (not needed
any more by recent python-crypto library usage).

Can I become a co-maintainer of the salt package?

I don't currently have access to an unstable machine - part way through
renovating and also suffering from a hardware failure. I expect to get
