Bug#819392: ITP: geg -- GTK+ Equation Grapher
Hello Andreas, Andreas Tille a écrit : [about package "geg"] > it would be nice if you would maintain this package inside the Debian > Science team. I could clear some obstacles: - forgotten to export my GPG key to debian's keyring when I prolonged its life two years longer: this is fixed, now I can dput again. - fixed the default configuration of exim4 which added a line "From georg...@free.fr" at the begin of my e-mails, while user georg...@free.fr does not exist. - finaly could subscribe to the mailing list of Debian Science team. Now I get the messages of this list. As you gave enough permissions to user georgesk, I could create the repository git.debian.org/git/debian-science/packages/geg.git and populate it. I used information from https://wiki.debian.org/PackagingWithGit#Getting_started and https://wiki.debian.org/Alioth/Git#Creating_a_repository The new repository seems to be well shaped from my point of view. Please can you check it? It is my first repository there. Thank you in advance, Georges. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Strange since any DD should have commit permissions. I've simply added user georgesk to the Debian Science team. I never had any trouble with this - may be you really need to ask listmaster. For the sake of testing I CC the list - just check whether you receive this mail also via the list. Hello Adreas, thank you for reminding me about team maintenance. My last tries were not successful, due to miscellaneous reasons, maybe we can sort out some of them now? - lack of permission (this sound sensible as I did not step forward previously): ---8< georgesk@moszumanska:/git/debian-science$ ./setup-repository geg mkdir: impossible de créer le répertoire « geg.git »: Permission denied ---8< same thing when I clone a repository like moszumanska:/git/python-modules/packages/sympy.git, I can do it, but cannot push files later. - another issue, when I try to subscribe to the mailing list. Yesterday night, I went to https://lists.debian.org/debian-science/ and tried to subscribe this e-mal address: georg...@debian.org Here is the feedback of the subscription automaton: ---8<--- Subscription request processed Mail has been sent subscribing georg...@debian.org to the following mailing lists: debian-scie...@lists.debian.org ---8<--- A few minutes later, I got a message with subject: "Subject: CONFIRM s1603281838458472" from SmartList, and replied with Mutt, without my usual signature (as previous tries have failed, I suppose that it may be due to a complicated structure of my reply). However, a few hours later, I get no confirmation of subscription. Should I contact the listmaster about it? Best regards, Georges. Hi Georges, it would be nice if you would maintain this package inside the Debian Science team. Kind regards Andreas. Hello Paul, thank you for the fast reply! Paul Wise a écrit : > > This package has been part of Debian woody, and removed in > > year 2009 due to lack of maintenance, see > > https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=515284 > > Please note the additional steps needed when reintroducing packages: > > https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#reintroducing-pkgs additional steps are: - check why the package was removed: Done. The package was removed due to a lack of maintenance, it was based on gtk1-2 libraries, and had not been ported to gtk2. Now Jean-Pierre Demailly has done the port, made a few improvements, and made the package easier for his wife's needs. - contact previous people maintaining the package: Done. Jean-Pierre Demailly has exchanged some e-mails with Barry deFreese, they agree about reviving the package. I had debianized that package in 1999, long before I became a DD; so this package was not unknown to me. - I updated the files under debian/ to use current standards (which simplify a lot the packaging task), and exchanged a few e-mails with Jean-Pierre Demailly to simplify the upstream source also: as debian rules use dh_autoreconf, many files could be removed. So I believe that geg is worth a small package. This application is quite modest, but it value/footprint ratio is great, IMHO. Best regards, Georges. signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#819392: ITP: geg -- GTK+ Equation Grapher
Package: wnpp Severity: wishlist Owner: Georges Khaznadar* Package name: geg Version : 2.0.2 Upstream Authors: 1998 David Bryant 2009-2015 Barry deFreese 2016 Jean-Pierre Demailly * URL : https://sourceforge.net/projects/sf- xpaint/files/geg/geg-2.0.2.tar.bz2/download * License : GPL Programming Lang: C Description : GTK+ Equation Grapher geg is a very simple utility for parsing and plotting 2D-functions, eg f(x) = 3 + sin(x), and much more complicated functions of course. It is written with GTK+ and provides a neat, configurable user interface. geg is not the only package usable to plot 2d functions, but it is simpler to use, and very lightweight: it can be preferred for low-end machines, and in any case when simplicity of use is the main constraint. This package has been part of Debian woody, and removed in year 2009 due to lack of maintenance, see https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=515284 Now it is maintained upstream by Jean-Pierre Demailly who is a reliable friend, and I shall make all updates when necessary. This package is now in a stable state.
