No, however I think it should be reproducible in all environments.

It's too late for Buster isn't it?

It might make more sense to do this split in 10.4.

Otto,
don't you think that this split should be done upstream?

Olaf,
do you still have the build log, if not, can you give me your build
steps and environment so I can try to reproduce the error?

Just to be clear, the build fails with a file not found error which I
don't know how to resolve.

No, but it was fine when I used it.

IMO yes but I don't know the reasons it was included in MariaDB packaging.

Great. Do you know what's missing from

I agree that having mytop (or mariadbtop) in a separate package would
make sense. I am not even fully familiar what the original upstream
story is and who is maintaining the "most upstream" version of it
currently.

I've attempted to split the package at
https://salsa.debian.org/olafvdspek-guest/mariadb-10.3/commit/55d06886f5a81c10a00822078aac3ea0090c1b7f
but when building there's an error it can't find mytop..
Also, would it be better if mytop was in it's own source package and repo?
Building takes a while too, is there a way to do the packaging without
rebuilding the entire server every time?

Greetings,

That would solve the issue filed in
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=863968

Maintaining MariaDB in Debian requires a lot of work and if you find
this package important, please contribute by helping fix this bug.
Also, if you test out current MariaDB 10.3 in Debian and find any new
issues, please "scratch your own itch" and help out by fixing them.

The preferred way of submitting contributions is as merge requests on
Debian's Salsa system:

What about moving mytop (matop?) into it's own package? That'd keep
issues separated as well.

Does that apply to libterm-readkey-perl as well?

The dependency was set to Recommends in
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-10.3/commit/da407b9f50a13c0ee69709156b82e6ddb43065e0
to avoid circular rependencies, as libdbd-mysql-perl itself depends on
the MySQL client library.

I am however leaving this bug report open in case somebody can provide
a patch to get around this and a gitlab-ci.yml test that verifies that
the change works as expected and has no regressions in itself.

Dear Maintainer,

# mytop
Unknown option: default-character-set
Can't locate Term/ReadKey.pm in @INC (you may need to install the Term::ReadKey
module) (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.28.1

Recommended packages:
  libdbd-mysql-perl libterm-readkey-perl libhtml-template-perl

I think this should be required rather then recommended..
