I agree that having mytop (or mariadbtop) in a separate package would make sense. I am not even fully familiar what the original upstream story is and who is maintaining the "most upstream" version of it currently.

Also, would it be better if mytop was in it's own source package and repo? Building takes a while too, is there a way to do the packaging without rebuilding the entire server every time? Tags: wontfix The dependency was set to Recommends in https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-10.3/commit/da407b9f50a13c0ee69709156b82e6ddb43065e0 to avoid circular rependencies, as libdbd-mysql-perl itself depends on the MySQL client library. I am however leaving this bug report open in case somebody can provide a patch to get around this and a gitlab-ci.yml test that verifies that the change works as expected and has no regressions in itself.
