Bug#451660: libfreetype6-dev: Please register the rest of the documentation with doc-base

2007-11-17 Thread Roberto C. Sanchez
Package: libfreetype6-dev
Version: 2.2.1-5+etch1
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Currently, you have this in the doc-base file for this package

Index: /usr/share/doc/libfreetype6/reference/ft2-index.html
Files: /usr/share/doc/libfreetype6/reference/*.html

However, there is lots more documentation and it should be registered:

ls -F /usr/share/doc/libfreetype6-dev/
CHANGES.gz GPL.TXT.gz INSTALL.VMSTODO changelog.gz
   glyphs/tutorial/
CUSTOMIZE.gz INSTALL LICENSE.TXTTRUETYPE copyright
   pcf/
ChangeLog.gz@ INSTALL.ANY.gz PATENTSUPGRADE.UNX.gz design/
   raster.txt.gz
DEBUG.gz INSTALL.GNU.gz PROBLEMS VERSION.DLL.gz
formats.txt.gz reference/
FTL.TXT.gz INSTALL.UNX README.Debian changelog.Debian.gz ft2faq.html
   release

Of course, not all of it should be registered, but there is more there
that is useful and would be nice if it were easier to find.

Bug#423707: patch available

2007-11-17 Thread Neil Williams
It would be nice if these fitted to each others

It would also be correct. This came to my attention after a discussion
on debian-mentors.

Isn't the only difference the fact that the document conditionally
 sets the --host flag

No, it can cause problems because the native build tries to use a
cross-compiler. Instead of running gcc, the build runs
i486-linux-gnu-gcc or powerpc-linux-gnu-gcc. Equally, omitting --build
entirely is also incorrect to ensure the correct build is specified.

I'm not sure if that makes a big difference, though I could easily be
 wrong.

IMHO, yes this is wrong and in line with the other cross-building
support bugs,
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/11/msg00116.html) I have
created a patch that correctly handles the --build and --host
statements within dh_make.

Therefore, as discussed on debian-devel, please fix dh-make to
implement the correct cross building support in new packages.

I just filed CPAN #30797 about this, pleading that the method would
be restored as a no-op or similar. If that isn't succesful, I suppose
that at least a NEWS.Debian entry would be in order.

Update: 5.425 was just released with a no-op stub for tmp_recycling(),
so this isn't an issue anymore.

Bug#451659: nano: does wrong line-converting

2007-11-17 Thread Kjell Braden
Package: nano
Version: 2.0.2-1etch1
Severity: important

Forwarded from
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nano/+bug/62666
If not specified --noconvert on command line, nano saves files with CR
instead of new lines (LF). This is BAD as it breaks bash scripts.

This only occurs with some files. Some files can start out as unix
format, then be saved and are now dos/mac format. Other files don't do
this.

This file has unix-style line-endings:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/4532611/grabber.sh
Opening it in vim shows up as expected. Opening it in nano does so too,
except that it shows a message that reads Converted from Mac format.
Saving it again results in saving mac-style line-endings.

Bug#423707: Changes for $(MAKE) too

2007-11-17 Thread Neil Williams
Not sure how to patch this one, but packages that do not
use ./configure also need to have cross build support. Typically,
Emdebian recommends:

DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE ?=$(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)
DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE ?=$(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE)

ifneq ($(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE),$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE))
CROSS=CC=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)-gcc CXX=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)-g++
else
CROSS=
endif

Then, for each $(MAKE) ... line, convert to:
$(MAKE) $(CROSS) ...

http://wiki.debian.org/EmdebianGuide

That change may need some wider changes in dh_make.

Note that in any package that needs to use CC_FOR_BUILD or otherwise
build internal tools using the native compiler, $(CROSS) should be
omitted for that directory. These packages are unusual - and some
handle CC_FOR_BUILD internally - but the situation may need some comment
in the dh_make manpage. Other packages also need to add CXX=
$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)-g++ to the $(CROSS) variable if they use C ++ or
combine C ++ code with C code, hence the addition above.

Feel free to link to the Emdebian wiki pages from the dh_make manpage
or get back to me (or the debian-embedded m-l) for any other cross
building queries.

ikiwiki seems to use yet another flavor of regexps. Say I want to

Nope, it doesn't want a backslash.

I'm sure there's a very simple thing I need to know to make this work,
but I can't find any documentation of it -- ikiwiki's manpage just says
it uses regexps, but these aren't any regexps I know!

Bug#451668: litian: Check for game binaries in usr/bin

2007-11-17 Thread Siegfried-Angel
Package: lintian
Serverity: wishlist

Conforming to the Debian Policy states that games should install
binaries in /usr/games:
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-customized-programs.html#s11.11

If the a package has a .menu file, lintian could check if the category
is Games/*, and in this check if the command starts with
/usr/games as it should and not /usr/bin.

Also, if it has a *.desktop file and the categories list includes
Game, it should check if the executable it refers to is installed in
/usr/games or /usr/bin.

Just some ideas :)

However, the system that inspired me to finally file a report about this

Apparently bug #441696 has reappeared. When I rebuilt aptitude twice
on my system, the .mo files were in the first package but not in the
 second. Reopening #441696,

It looks like the problem is that that fix was committed as a
divergence from upstream in the Debian repository. When I was
putting together the last Debian release, I discovered that it was
failing to build because of changes to the .gmo files, found this
deviation from upstream, and reverted it.

I do not quite understand. Why did it fail to build? And couldn't
this be remedied by running make maintainer-clean all in the po
directory to force the rebuild of the .gmo files?

Is there a way to fix this without making the package unbuildable?

An alternative would be not to ship the *.gmo files at all in the
package, but to create them at build time. But in this case you would
need to run make maintainer-clean instead of distclean in the po
directory (or remove the files in the debian/rules clean target).
Note that if you don't ship po/*.gmo, you also should not ship the
po/stamp-po file.

Cheers,
   Sven

Bug#451670: kwifimanager: KWiFiManager Colour Coding for Connection Status

2007-11-17 Thread Sheridan Hutchinson
Package: kwifimanager
Version: 4:3.5.7-4
Severity: wishlist

Just a little idea that came to me.

At the moment Kwifi turns green in the system tray as soon as an
association with an AP has occurred. While useful, what I also quite
often need to know is when I've acquired an IP address (typically
through DHCP).

I was thinking that if Kwifi were to turn orange once it had succesfully
associated with the AP, and then green only once an IP address had been
established.

I would have thought such a relatively simple change would give people
quite a lot of extra funcationality.

Thank you for considering my suggestion.

Bug#403237: Wx 2.8

2007-11-17 Thread Gudjon I. Gudjonsson
Hi
I read your arguments Ron. You mention the frequent upgrade of Wx 2.8.
This probably means that Wx 2.8 should stay in experimental but I don't see
it as an argument to keep it out of Debian. I really need Wx 2.8 into Debian
now to be able to release a new version of GSpiceUi and guess the Wx team
would be happy to get feedback from the Debian users.
I do understand that it is too much work for you but since there is a lot
of people willing to maintain the Wx 2.8 version in some collaborative
maintenance, please let them do that. It cannot do any harm :)
Enough said from the nowise guy :)

Bug#451675: split out an ocaml-support package to support building of ocaml-related debian packages

2007-11-17 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: ocaml-nox
Version: 3.10.0-8
Severity: wishlist

The OCaml packaging policy, our CDBS class, and forthcoming other tools
to help building OCaml-related Debian package are currently shipped by
ocaml-nox. This is suboptimal, since fixing our Debian toolchain for
OCaml-related packages requires re-uploading and rebuilding OCaml
itself.

This bugreport is a reminder for the task of splitting a separate
ocaml-support (or something) *source* package which contains the
toolchain for building Debian packages related to OCaml.

Cheers.

Bug#450478: agenda.app: FTBFS: E: Package libgnustep-gui0.10-dev has no installation candidate

2007-11-17 Thread James Westby
retitle 450478 FTBFS: needs update to new gnustep-make
thanks

The patch I provided fixes the immediate symptom, but more work is
needed, including an update to the latest gnustep-make.

I assume the new upstream does this, and as was said earlier,
moving to this requires libical.

In the second libical ITP referenced above it is asked whether that
libical is the one pointed to from the homepage of this app, but there
is no answer yet.

Thanks,

James

Bug#451679: amsn: offline messages

2007-11-17 Thread Riccardo Stagni
Package: amsn
Version: 0.97~rc1+dfsg1-5
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

In last times I received some offline messages; if I click to see them,
I get an error (the same described here
http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=23974)

After some very difficult checks ;) I found that the problem stays in
the string passed to base64::decode: it's not a valid Base64 string!
You can check with a simple perl command (so we can exclude a bug in
the tcl base64 implementation):
  perl -MMIME::Base64 -e'print(MIME::Base64::decode(=wqDCoFVyaWVs?= ) . \n)'
doesn't output anything, while
  perl -MMIME::Base64 -e'print(MIME::Base64::decode(wqDCoFVyaWVs?= ) . \n)'
yes.

The problem seems to lie in the first =: the only place where that
character is allowed is the string end, as padding (and there could be
at most two of them).
Deleting that = the string is valid. The patch I attach works for me.

ciao
Riccardo

Bug#246764: Hi

2007-11-17 Thread Elena

Hello,

My name is Elena, I am 30 years and I live in Russian province.

I have a 6-years daughter, her father abandoned us and we live with my mother.
Recently my mother lost job due to old age and our situation became very
difficult.

The prices for gas and electricity became very high in the last months and we
cannot use it to heat our home anymore.

The winter is coming and temperature is very cold here already. The radio say
it will be till minus 30 degrees Celsii in the near weeks. We do not know what
to do and we very afraid.

The only way for us to heat our home is to use portable wood burning stove
which gives heat with burning wood or coal. We have a lot of wood in our
region, therefore this way is very good for us
and it will heat our home the whole winter with minimal charges.

I work in library and after my job I allowed to use computer. I finded your
address in internet and may be you can help us.

We need portable stove, but we cannot buy it because it expensive for us. May
be you have any used wood burning stove which you don't use anymore, then we
would be very grateful to you if you can donate it to us and organize transport
of its to our address. This stoves are different, and they weight between
60-150kg.

The Christmas coming and I would be very grateful to you if you could send some
sweets for my daughter. I will then put them under Christmas tree and it will
make my daughter very happy.

I wish you all the best and I hope to hear from you.

Elena.

 read_size - m_down-buffer()-size_end(;

or:
 read_stream_throws(m_down-buffer()-end(), read_size -
m_down-buffer()-size_end())

It's protected by an:
  if (m_down-buffer()-size_end() == read_size)
throw internal_error(PeerConnectionSeed::event_read()
m_down-buffer()-size_end() == read_size.);

The buffer seems to be 512 bytes, read_size seems to be 64.

The check there seems wrong to me, it should probably check for
= read_size, which seems to suggest that the bug is somewhere else.

Changing that makes it print out that error.

 This is still true.

Can you explain this behaviour, should it be like this? He means that
patgen can only read files containing ONLY \patterns{...}

No idea about all this, but I thought asking won't hurt.

At the moment debian/changelog and debian/control are checked for
UTF-8 encoding. Adding a check for debian/copyright might be a good
idea.

Find attached a preliminary patch that implements such a check (at
level warning).

Cheers,

Bug#441921: Please install native code files

2007-11-17 Thread Mike Furr

Stefano Zacchiroli wrote:

Hi Mike,
can you please tell me which .cmx* files you're missing.

Sure.

[...]

Moreover, also checking which *.cmx* files have been built by
the world.opt target of camlp5 at the end of the build process I see:

[...]

  ./odyl/odyl.cmxa
  ./odyl/odyl.cmx
  ./compile/pa_o_fast.cmx

These three are used by otags, as well as the following which were not
in either of your lists (although the corresponding .cmo's are installed
by camlp5, so perhaps these are aren't built by world.opt).

  pa_o.cmx
  pa_op.cmx

Can you please tell me which extra .cmx* files you need and why so?

The above 5 files are used by otags. I imagine that if you decide to
include them, it would probably make sense to ship the native versions
of other files, such as the rest of the pa_* parsers.

As to why they are needed: otags uses camlp5 to parse OCaml files in
order to extract identifiers for TAGS files. Because it's a stand alone
application (i.e., it doesn't have to be dynamically loaded by the ocaml
compiler), it can use the native code versions of the camlp5 parsers and
achieve the expected speedup of native code over byte code.

However, it also has to be able to load user specified camlp5 modules
(in order to properly parse the source files). Therefore, it reuses
several of the files used to build the camlp5o binary (like odyl.cmx),
so that it can be a drop in replacement for it.

Adding the native files doesn't seem to add a lot of space. On my amd64
etch box, a du -hsc *.cmx* in the ocaml/3.09.2/camlp4/ dir is only
178k, so, I would guess the corresponding camlp5 versions would be similar.

The cross building support in Debian has been recently rewritten -
particularly in respect of how environment variables and overrides are
handled - so this patch is now needed to allow base-passwd to correctly
 identify the cross compiler.

Please consider implementing this patch. Thanks.

Having read the conversation on debian-devel, I'll do so using the
autotools-dev recommendations instead. (I also don't see why setting CC
explicitly is necessary, since configure will do that itself.) If that
causes a genuine problem, let me know.

Bug#451600: libpar-packer-perl: /usr/bin/par.pl vs. policy 10.4

2007-11-17 Thread Damyan Ivanov
-=| Niko Tyni, Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 01:50:38PM +0200 |=-
As discussed on debian-perl, the name of /usr/bin/par.pl doesn't
comply with policy 10.4, which says that the .pl suffix should be removed.

Since /usr/bin/par is already taken by the par package, we need something
else. Russ Allberry suggested par-archive, which sounds good to me. Unless
there are objections, I'm going to go forward with that and rename the
 script.

 [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-perl/2007/11/msg00035.html

Can we have upstream's opinion on this? At least as a measure to inform
them that Debian is renaming par.pl. Perhaps they can even suggest a
name (and possibliy adopt it in future release)?

No idea about all this, but I thought asking won't hurt.

ok, but I've seen the Makefiles and the only target that installs
 gnokii.pc is install-includes in common/Makefile.

common/Makefile:

Makefile:

install-includes:

$(MAKE) -C $$dir install-devel; \
fi; \
done

install-devel: compile install-includes install-docs-devel

[At least this is gnokii CVS. I don't remember at the moment if I
changed it before 0.6.21 or after. Even if it was after it would be
better to adopt to the next release]

take care,

ok, but I've seen the Makefiles and the only target that installs

Looking under the Makefile in the root of the source tarball the
install-includes target is not called under common dir and this is the
problem IMHO... I've suggested to add the call on debian/rules to avoid
patching the original source, and to have a fast solution...

  PS
install-devel is already executed in rules...

Maybe something is wrong. If something is not installed with make
install or make install-devel, please file a bug saying what doesn't
 get installed but should.

In a first glance to Makefiles the only file not installed is gnokii.pc,
I think that it's a upstream bug...

Bug#408491: insserv: Boot pauses until a key is pressed

2007-11-17 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

If I understand this bug report correctly, the cause was that parallel
booting did not work properly. That is not surprising, as it depend
on all boot scripts having correct ordering, and that all the scripts
with a given boot order value can be started at the same time. This
is not yet true for all configurations, as the default ordering in
Debian do not guarantee this, and insserv can only generate such
sequence if all the init.d scripts (or the override files) have
correct dependency information. There is still ~35% of the scripts
without dependency information, so this is work in progress.

Not sure if I should close this bug as fixed, reassign it to the
general virtual package, or tag it wontfix. The problem need to be
fixed in all the scripts with incorrect dependency information, and
that effort is being tracked on URL:
http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts/DependencyBasedBoot .

A workaround is to provide override files for all the scripts missing
dependency information, and I will try to do so, but will need help
for the users of the packages I do not use myself.

Happy hacking,

Bug#451320: aptitude: Prefers to remove instead of hold in upgrade in visual mode

In visual mode, when selecting upgrade (with the U key), and a package
upgrade breaks others, aptitude prefers to remove the broken ones
instead of holding the upgrade of the responsible packages. Example that
happened right now: Upgrading apt breaks packagesearch, but instead of
suggesting holding apt, it chooses to remove packagesearch.

If you're still experiencing this problem, could you run
aptitude-create-state-bundle and send it to me? (we may have to work
out an alternative channel; email generally doesn't work for files this
 large)

It is available from http://sateler.com/~felipe/acsb2.bz2. Note that the
problem has shifted from apt+packagesearch (just removed the latter) to
koffice+kivio+kword+etc.

Probably will never be fixed as such stuff won't be fixed in etch
anymore (andtesting/sid/experimental don't contain the file anymore, I
don't remember why exactly anymore, probably it was just because
that file didn't really contain that much info anyway (and the OOo
sourcetree doesn't have it either anymore)

My mistake. I run Etch, but I thought I had checked before submitting.
I filed bugs on a couple of dozen packages, but it may have slipped my
mind to chech python-uno.

Apologies,

Bug#451123: base-passwd: cross build support

As part of the long term mass bug filing for cross building support,
 (http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/11/msg00116.html), I've
 prepared this patch for debian/rules.

Sorry, that won't work. (Otherwise I would have specified that as the
patch.) I start with that as my initial patch and then adjust it to suit
the particular package. The autotools-dev instructions do not work for
base-passwd, just as they do not work for other packages. That may be
due to upstream bugs but the autotools-dev recommendation is only a
recommendation - packages are free to implement things differently.

Unlike other mass bug filings, the cross build support bugs are prepared
through an entirely manual process, each patch is bespoke for the
particular package.

(I also don't see why setting CC
explicitly is necessary, since configure will do that itself.)

It does not, in this specific case. I tried that.
:-(

 If that
causes a genuine problem, let me know.

I can regenerate the broken build log with just the autotools-dev
recommendations if you need it.

Bug#451646: www.debian.org: list of files link generates error when testing and unstable versions are the same

The version of gnu-standards is the same in lenny and sid. The file
list works for lenny but not for sid. However, the problem does *NOT*
occur for other packages. For example, shorewall-lite:

 http://packages.debian.org/lenny/shorewall-lite/all/filelist
 http://packages.debian.org/sid/shorewall-lite/all/filelist

Hrm. The actual reason for this was that the all database is created
by just symlinking the newest of the other databases (which allows
arch all packages to be up-to-date even if only one arch is updated
per day).

What I forgot was to blacklist kfreebsd-* and armel. The gnuab archive
doesn't contain non-free packages so non-free Arch: all packages were
broken once the symlink pointed to one of these architectures.

I've manually fixed the symlink for now and will look into a more
permanent solution.

Gruesse,
