Bug#423707: patch available
It would be nice if these fitted to each others It would also be correct. This came to my attention after a discussion on debian-mentors. Isn't the only difference the fact that the document conditionally sets the --host flag No, it can cause problems because the native build tries to use a cross-compiler. Instead of running gcc, the build runs i486-linux-gnu-gcc or powerpc-linux-gnu-gcc. Equally, omitting --build entirely is also incorrect to ensure the correct build is specified. I'm not sure if that makes a big difference, though I could easily be wrong. IMHO, yes this is wrong and in line with the other cross-building support bugs, (http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/11/msg00116.html) I have created a patch that correctly handles the --build and --host statements within dh_make. Therefore, as discussed on debian-devel, please fix dh-make to implement the correct cross building support in new packages. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ --- dh-make-0.44/dh_make +++ dh-make.new/dh_make @@ -498,12 +498,16 @@ ifneq \\$(wildcard /usr/share/misc/config.guess)\ \\\n. \tcp -f /usr/share/misc/config.guess config.guess\n. endif\n. - \t.'./configure --host=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE) --build=$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) --prefix=/usr --mandir=\$${prefix}/share/man --infodir=\$${prefix}/share/info CFLAGS=$(CFLAGS) LDFLAGS=-Wl,-z,defs'.\n; + \t.'./configure $(CROSS) --prefix=/usr --mandir=\$${prefix}/share/man --infodir=\$${prefix}/share/info CFLAGS=$(CFLAGS) LDFLAGS=-Wl,-z,defs'.\n; $DPKG_ARCH=# These are used for cross-compiling and for saving the configure script\n. # from having to guess our platform (since we know it already)\n. Bug#423707: Changes for $(MAKE) too
Not sure how to patch this one, but packages that do not use ./configure also need to have cross build support. Typically, Emdebian recommends: DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE ?=$(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE) DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE ?=$(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) ifneq ($(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE),$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE)) CROSS=CC=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)-gcc CXX=$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)-g++ else CROSS= endif Then, for each $(MAKE) ... line, convert to: $(MAKE) $(CROSS) ... http://wiki.debian.org/EmdebianGuide That change may need some wider changes in dh_make. Note that in any package that needs to use CC_FOR_BUILD or otherwise build internal tools using the native compiler, $(CROSS) should be omitted for that directory. These packages are unusual - and some handle CC_FOR_BUILD internally - but the situation may need some comment in the dh_make manpage. Other packages also need to add CXX= $(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)-g++ to the $(CROSS) variable if they use C ++ or combine C ++ code with C code, hence the addition above. Feel free to link to the Emdebian wiki pages from the dh_make manpage or get back to me (or the debian-embedded m-l) for any other cross building queries. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpeMM2VOvE2y.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#451584: aptitude: Aptitude isn't in french anymore
Daniel Burrows [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: On Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 02:12:43PM +0100, Sven Joachim [EMAIL PROTECTED] was heard to say: Apparently bug #441696 has reappeared. When I rebuilt aptitude twice on my system, the .mo files were in the first package but not in the second. Reopening #441696, It looks like the problem is that that fix was committed as a divergence from upstream in the Debian repository. When I was putting together the last Debian release, I discovered that it was failing to build because of changes to the .gmo files, found this deviation from upstream, and reverted it. I do not quite understand. Why did it fail to build? And couldn't this be remedied by running make maintainer-clean all in the po directory to force the rebuild of the .gmo files? Is there a way to fix this without making the package unbuildable? An alternative would be not to ship the *.gmo files at all in the package, but to create them at build time. But in this case you would need to run make maintainer-clean instead of distclean in the po directory (or remove the files in the debian/rules clean target). Note that if you don't ship po/*.gmo, you also should not ship the po/stamp-po file. Cheers, Sven -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#451679: amsn: offline messages
Package: amsn Version: 0.97~rc1+dfsg1-5 Severity: normal Tags: patch In last times I received some offline messages; if I click to see them, I get an error (the same described here http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=23974) After some very difficult checks ;) I found that the problem stays in the string passed to base64::decode: it's not a valid Base64 string! You can check with a simple perl command (so we can exclude a bug in the tcl base64 implementation): perl -MMIME::Base64 -e'print(MIME::Base64::decode(=wqDCoFVyaWVs?= ) . \n)' doesn't output anything, while perl -MMIME::Base64 -e'print(MIME::Base64::decode(wqDCoFVyaWVs?= ) . \n)' yes. The problem seems to lie in the first =: the only place where that character is allowed is the string end, as padding (and there could be at most two of them). Deleting that = the string is valid. The patch I attach works for me. ciao Riccardo -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.22-3-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages amsn depends on: ii libc6 2.6.1-6 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.2.2-3GCC support library ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libjpeg62 6b-14The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-3 PNG library - runtime ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libsnack2 2.2.10-dfsg1-4 Sound functionality extension to T ii libstdc++6 4.2.2-3 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii python 2.4.4-6 An interactive high-level object-o ii tcl8.4 8.4.16-4 Tcl (the Tool Command Language) v8 ii tcltls 1.5.0.dfsg-6 the TLS OpenSSL extension to Tcl ii tk8.4 8.4.16-2 Tk toolkit for Tcl and X11, v8.4 - ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-7 compression library - runtime amsn recommends no packages. -- no debconf information --- protocol.tcl2007-11-17 20:01:40.0 +0100 +++ protocol.tcl- 2007-11-07 05:25:25.0 +0100 @@ -2910,7 +2910,7 @@ } if {$type == B } { - set decoded [base64::decode [string trimleft $data =]] + set decoded [base64::decode $data] } elseif {$type == Q } { set decoded [urldecode $data] } else {
Bug#246764: Hi
Hello, My name is Elena, I am 30 years and I live in Russian province. I have a 6-years daughter, her father abandoned us and we live with my mother. Recently my mother lost job due to old age and our situation became very difficult. The prices for gas and electricity became very high in the last months and we cannot use it to heat our home anymore. The winter is coming and temperature is very cold here already. The radio say it will be till minus 30 degrees Celsii in the near weeks. We do not know what to do and we very afraid. The only way for us to heat our home is to use portable wood burning stove which gives heat with burning wood or coal. We have a lot of wood in our region, therefore this way is very good for us and it will heat our home the whole winter with minimal charges. I work in library and after my job I allowed to use computer. I finded your address in internet and may be you can help us. We need portable stove, but we cannot buy it because it expensive for us. May be you have any used wood burning stove which you don't use anymore, then we would be very grateful to you if you can donate it to us and organize transport of its to our address. This stoves are different, and they weight between 60-150kg. The Christmas coming and I would be very grateful to you if you could send some sweets for my daughter. I will then put them under Christmas tree and it will make my daughter very happy. I wish you all the best and I hope to hear from you. Bug#441921: Please install native code files
Stefano Zacchiroli wrote: Hi Mike, can you please tell me which .cmx* files you're missing. Sure. [...] Moreover, also checking which *.cmx* files have been built by the world.opt target of camlp5 at the end of the build process I see: [...] ./odyl/odyl.cmxa ./odyl/odyl.cmx ./compile/pa_o_fast.cmx These three are used by otags, as well as the following which were not in either of your lists (although the corresponding .cmo's are installed by camlp5, so perhaps these are aren't built by world.opt). pa_o.cmx pa_op.cmx Can you please tell me which extra .cmx* files you need and why so? The above 5 files are used by otags. I imagine that if you decide to include them, it would probably make sense to ship the native versions of other files, such as the rest of the pa_* parsers. As to why they are needed: otags uses camlp5 to parse OCaml files in order to extract identifiers for TAGS files. Because it's a stand alone application (i.e., it doesn't have to be dynamically loaded by the ocaml compiler), it can use the native code versions of the camlp5 parsers and achieve the expected speedup of native code over byte code. However, it also has to be able to load user specified camlp5 modules (in order to properly parse the source files). Therefore, it reuses several of the files used to build the camlp5o binary (like odyl.cmx), so that it can be a drop in replacement for it. Adding the native files doesn't seem to add a lot of space. On my amd64 etch box, a du -hsc *.cmx* in the ocaml/3.09.2/camlp4/ dir is only 178k, so, I would guess the corresponding camlp5 versions would be similar. -mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#451123: base-passwd: cross build support
On Tue, Nov 13, 2007 at 02:54:10PM +, Neil Williams wrote: As part of the long term mass bug filing for cross building support, (http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/11/msg00116.html), I've prepared this patch for debian/rules. The cross building support in Debian has been recently rewritten - particularly in respect of how environment variables and overrides are handled - so this patch is now needed to allow base-passwd to correctly identify the cross compiler. Please consider implementing this patch. Thanks. Having read the conversation on debian-devel, I'll do so using the autotools-dev recommendations instead. (I also don't see why setting CC explicitly is necessary, since configure will do that itself.) If that causes a genuine problem, let me know. Bug#451600: libpar-packer-perl: /usr/bin/par.pl vs. policy 10.4
-=| Niko Tyni, Sat, Nov 17, 2007 at 01:50:38PM +0200 |=- As discussed on debian-perl, the name of /usr/bin/par.pl doesn't comply with policy 10.4, which says that the .pl suffix should be removed. Since /usr/bin/par is already taken by the par package, we need something else. Russ Allberry suggested par-archive, which sounds good to me. Unless there are objections, I'm going to go forward with that and rename the script. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-perl/2007/11/msg00035.html Can we have upstream's opinion on this? Looking under the Makefile in the root of the source tarball the install-includes target is not called under common dir and this is the problem IMHO... I've suggested to add the call on debian/rules to avoid patching the original source, and to have a fast solution... PS install-devel is already executed in rules... Maybe something is wrong. If something is not installed with make install or make install-devel, please file a bug saying what doesn't get installed but should. In a first glance to Makefiles the only file not installed is gnokii.pc, I think that it's a upstream bug... Bug#408491: insserv: Boot pauses until a key is pressed
If I understand this bug report correctly, the cause was that parallel booting did not work properly. That is not surprising, as it depend on all boot scripts having correct ordering, and that all the scripts with a given boot order value can be started at the same time. This is not yet true for all configurations, as the default ordering in Debian do not guarantee this, and insserv can only generate such sequence if all the init.d scripts (or the override files) have correct dependency information. There is still ~35% of the scripts without dependency information, so this is work in progress. Not sure if I should close this bug as fixed, reassign it to the general virtual package, or tag it wontfix. The problem need to be fixed in all the scripts with incorrect dependency information, and that effort is being tracked on URL: http://wiki.debian.org/LSBInitScripts/DependencyBasedBoot . A workaround is to provide override files for all the scripts missing dependency information, and I will try to do so, but will need help for the users of the packages I do not use myself. Example that happened right now: Upgrading apt breaks packagesearch, but instead of suggesting holding apt, it chooses to remove packagesearch. If you're still experiencing this problem, could you run aptitude-create-state-bundle and send it to me? Bug#451123: base-passwd: cross build support
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Colin Watson wrote: On Tue, Nov 13, 2007 at 02:54:10PM +, Neil Williams wrote: As part of the long term mass bug filing for cross building support, (http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2007/11/msg00116.html), I've prepared this patch for debian/rules. Sorry, that won't work. (Otherwise I would have specified that as the patch.) I start with that as my initial patch and then adjust it to suit the particular package. The autotools-dev instructions do not work for base-passwd, just as they do not work for other packages. That may be due to upstream bugs but the autotools-dev recommendation is only a recommendation - packages are free to implement things differently. Unlike other mass bug filings, the cross build support bugs are prepared through an entirely manual process, each patch is bespoke for the particular package. (I also don't see why setting CC explicitly is necessary, since configure will do that itself.) It does not, in this specific case. I tried that. :-( If that causes a genuine problem, let me know. I can regenerate the broken build log with just the autotools-dev recommendations if you need it. - -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFHP07ziAEJSii8s+MRAgHHAKDcYeZiE1GXoZMU6T0GvQf9UpA9bwCfeYAd Cti9zJXXfP2G9+uxZzrSgpw= =MQ6T -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#451646: www.debian.org: list of files link generates error when testing and unstable versions are the same

For example, shorewall-lite: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/shorewall-lite/all/filelist http://packages.debian.org/sid/shorewall-lite/all/filelist Hrm. The actual reason for this was that the all database is created by just symlinking the newest of the other databases (which allows arch all packages to be up-to-date even if only one arch is updated per day). What I forgot was to blacklist kfreebsd-* and armel. The gnuab archive doesn't contain non-free packages so non-free Arch: all packages were broken once the symlink pointed to one of these architectures. I've manually fixed the symlink for now and will look into a more permanent solution.
