2009-08-09 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

This is just a heads up to let you know that the folks behind
the rogue-like game angband finally chased down all the contributors,
and got them to agree to putting the game under the GPL (it was under
a free but no commercial use license).

I have just uploaded a new version (3.1.1), please let t flow
 into main.

Bug#502908: [Pkg-cups-devel] Bug#502908: cups-client: [INTL:de] Initial German man page translation

2009-08-09 Thread Helge Kreutzmann
Hello Martin,
based on the version released as 1.3.11 I updated the German po file
again, removing some fuzzy entries and completing some more man pages.
The overall translation ratio is now 65% and it would be *really*
great if you could ship it in the next version of the Debian package!

Thanks!

Greetings

Bug#240092: any plans to address this?

2009-08-09 Thread martin f krafft
tags 240092 patch
thanks

What are the plans to fix address this proposal? Debian is very big
on policy and FHS-compliance, and then its most core piece of
software doesn't really fit into the system properly, and in 5+
years, noone even cared enough to even comment?

It seems that dpkg is designed to support non-standard --admindir
settings. It's also quite likely that that feature is in use. I can
thus only think of two ways to really address the issue:

1. move all lockfiles to admindir/lock/, which can be a symlink to
   /var/lock/dpkg

2. use a lockdir at /var/lock/dpkg unless --admindir is specified
explicitly, in which case it could heuristically check if
admindir/../../lock/dpkg existed and use that, else fall back to
   current method.

Thoughts?

That's exacttly why I would propose to use this patch, at least as a
temporary solution. Better less than nothing

This patch does not break antyhing, hence no danger applying it.

I tried testgem downloaded from http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278566.

% sudo gem install testgem-0.0.1.gem
Successfully installed testgem-0.0.1
1 gem installed
Installing ri documentation for testgem-0.0.1...
File not found: lib

(I think that making document files causes this error.)

% ls /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/less
/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/less

So, /usr/bin/less is not overwritten.
Debian's RubyGems is patched to replace the upstream's indiscriminate default
directory.

dependency on libc6-i686 anymore.

I also agree that Recommends would be preferable.

Bug#540622: mp3gain manpage outdated

2009-08-09 Thread Joris van Rantwijk
Package: mp3gain
Version: 1.5.1-1
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Recent versions of mp3gain have an option to write gain information
in ID3v2 format instead of APEv2 format. This option is not yet documented
in the manpage.

Also, the manpage could more clearly explain the two ways of working with
mp3gain: changing the encoded stream versus writing replaygain tags.

Attached is a copy of the manpage with my suggested changes.

Greetings,
  Joris. manpage.1'. You may view
the manual page with: `docbook-to-man manpage.sgml | nroff -man |
less'. A typical entry in a Makefile or Makefile.am is:

manpage.1: manpage.sgml
docbook-to-man $< > $@

The docbook-to-man binary is found in the docbook-to-man package.
Please remember that if you create the nroff version in one of the
debian/rules file targets (such as build), you will need to include
docbook-to-man in your Build-Depends control field.

DESCRIPTION

This manual page documents briefly the
  &dhpackage;
  command.

This manual page was written for the &debian; distribution
because the original program does not have a manual page.

&dhpackage; can analyze and adjust mp3 files
so that they have the same volume.

&dhpackage; does not just do peak normalization,
as many normalizers do. Instead, it does some statistical analysis to
determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear. Also, the
changes &dhpackage; makes are completely lossless. There
is no quality lost in the change because the program adjusts the mp3 file
directly, without decoding and re-encoding.

&dhpackage; optionally writes gain adjustments
directly into the encoded data. In this case, the adjustment works
with all mp3 players, i.e. no support for a special tag is required.
This mode is activated by any of the options -r,
-a, -g, or -l.

If none of the above options are given, the recommended gain change
is instead written to a special tag in the mp3 file. In this case, the
adjustment only works with mp3 players that support this tag.
Some mp3 players refer to this as ReplayGain.
The tag is written either in APEv2 format (default) or in ID3v2 format
(with -s i).
If you only want to print the recommended gain change (and not modify
the file at all) you may use the -s s (skip tag)
option.

The method mp3gain uses to determine the desired volume
is described at
http://www.replaygain.org/";>www.replaygain.org.
See also /usr/share/doc/mp3gain/README.method .

Bug#539624: segfaults if the system doesn't have hal

Hi, Emilio.

On Aug 09 2009, Emilio Pozuelo Monfort wrote:

Sure. The problem seems to be related to the brasero library, from the
backtrace (attached).

Unfortunately, there are no debugging package with symbols for brasero
in sid (hummm, perhaps it merits a bugreport here).

> I'd do it myself, but removing hal tries to remove X too :)

That's *really* an unfortunate situation regarding X. For instance, hal
interferes with my package usbmount.

Yes, we should get prepared for an imminent release of testing, to have
everything working fine so that the release is not delayed after the
freeze.

Bug#540627: zangband: Explosive Rune generates an error

2009-08-09 Thread Alexander Waldmann
Package: zangband
Version: 1:2.7.5pre1-4
Severity: normal

I didn't find this particular bug, but it exists on here anyway. I was told to:
- Generate a character with Sorcery as a magic.
- Activate debug mode (Ctrl+A, yes)
- Give Grimoire of Power (Ctrl+A p d) pick it up
- Get to level 25 at least (Ctrl+A e, set exp stat)
- Learn Explosive Rune (Shift+G)
- Cast it, and get a townsfolk to walk over it.

Once all that's done, the following error appears.

error: `)' expected; last token read: `=' at line 7 in string "local -more-
race..." Script for field: explosive Rune failed.

This results from normal gameplay. I don't know if it only affects townsfolk but
it's a bug nevertheless.

(I'm using the Sid version, because of that earlier bug, with the crashing on
character generation)

Thanks. Alexander.

Bug#540626: HEAD is ridiculously slow.

2009-08-09 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: roundup
Version: 1.4.4-4+lenny1
Severity: normal

Experimental evidence suggests that HEAD requests will result in
Roundup generating the entire page, discard it, then send the headers
to the client. This is very wasteful, particularly on large pages.

Making requests to bugs.darcs.net *from* bugs.darcs.net (to avoid
network latency), we can see that HEAD and GET take about the same
amount of time:

$ time nc bugs.darcs.net www <<<$'HEAD /status1 HTTP/1.1\nHost:
bugs.darcs.net\n\n' | wc -l
7

real0m18.549s
user0m0.004s
sys 0m0.004s
$ time nc bugs.darcs.net www <<<$'GET /status1 HTTP/1.1\nHost:
bugs.darcs.net\n\n' | wc -l
3117

real0m18.324s
user0m0.004s
sys 0m0.004s

This issue has practical implications for me. I maintain a script to
interact with roundup's mailgw, and I wanted to valid status IDs
before sending emails:

if ! curl -fsIo/dev/null http://bugs.example.net/status$N
then error "$N is not a valid status ID!"
fi

Currently this request can take deciseconds, and so is far too slow to
use.

the upload-history data is taken (for now) from
http://qa.debian.org/~filippo/ddc/ and I couldn't find the wrong libopenid-ruby

for the other problem you are correct, the first uid for ED1A3933B2CFCDD8
doesn't contain an email:

No, please :) We will have ddebs (debugging debs) support in the archive soon,
so no need for this!

Can you rebuild brasero with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip ? That will get you
debugging symbols for librasero-media. If you can't, I can do it and upload the
packages somewhere for you.

Bug#540628: halevt: hvmount and hvumount don't work with dash

2009-08-09 Thread Adrian Knoth
Package: halevt
Version: 0.1.3-3.1
Severity: normal

Hi!

Having dash as the system's default for /bin/sh breaks at least hvmount
and hvumount:

a...@chopin:~$ hvumount
/usr/bin/hvumount: 470: Syntax error: word unexpected

whereas running with bash:

a...@chopin:~$ /bin/bash hvumount
umount requires an udi, a mountpoint, a device or -a

Same for hvmount:

a...@chopin:~$ hvmount
shift: 77: can't shift that many

a...@chopin:~$ /bin/bash hvmount
Usage: hvmount [options]
  Options:
-a umount all
-c set mount command (autodetected)
-d set device
-p set mountpoint
-l set label (for pmount)
-m mount umask (for pmount)
-s if set, mount sync
-u set udi
  Commands:
mount mount which has
mountpoint register for
umount unmount device, mountpoint or udi
listlist mounted and registered
devices
umountpoint unregister mountpoint for
remove remove completly
clean remove database

AFAIK, dash is intended to replace bash regarding /bin/sh.

Don't know if this is a dash or halevt bug. Simple solution would be to
change the shebang line to /bin/bash, but I guess it's better to fix the
scripts itself.

Bug#484488: to be honest

2009-08-09 Thread Patrick Winnertz
tag 484488 + wontfix
thanks

Hey,

to be honest I can reproduce your problem.. BUT: #a is a very common
shortcut for floppies, this is more than a feature than a bug of mc.
The subshell you get within mc is more than a normal shell and is
enhanced with this feature.

the downside is that such exotic links won't work anymore as they are
recognised as shortcut for the floppies.

Therefore this is in my eyes a wontfix, but I'll speak with my co-maint
about this issue what he thinks about this.

Greetings
Winnie

2009-08-09 Thread Trent W. Buck
Package: roundup
Version: 1.4.4-4+lenny1
Severity: normal

The pages /statusN and /priorityN take an unreasonable amount of time
to download -- presumably because the History table grows very large
over time. Please improve the turnaround time of requests to /statusN
and /priorityN, perhaps by breaking up the table over several pages.

Looking at the source, it seems to be in _generic.item.html. I guess
you want to extend it to honour @startwith and @pagesize.

Bug#532786: Could be something else

2009-08-09 Thread Adrian Knoth
Hi!

I've seen exactly the same behaviour: a fresh installation of halevt,
then the events, but no automounting, though my user was in the plugdev
group.

I then logged out and logged in again (or did I reboot, don't know), and
everything was working.

In other words: I was able to use halevt as expected without changing
any files.

Could you verify my observation?

This should have already been fixed upstream in trunk r2441, please

Just for your information, removing the brasero and the nautilus burn
libraries from the B-Depends: line and recompiling the package makes it
work perfectly well, without any segfaults or things like that.

I did not have the time to recompile with the nautilus-burn library (I
just decided to kill both dependencies). Unfortunately, it seems that
the rhythmbox package does not support parallel builds (or am I
mistaken?).

OK. This is just to give you some more data points.

Bug#540303: ia32-libs: seems like I figured out why this happened

2009-08-09 Thread Dmitri Gribenko
Package: ia32-libs
Severity: normal

Hi,

I'm on testing and after libc update I have only fakeroot's files left in
/emul. I've got fakeroot 1.12.4 installed and it Conflicts with libc6-dev-i386
<= 2.9-13.  But I don't have libc6-dev-i386 installed, only libc6-i386.  So,
when fakeroot update has migrated to testing (in June), I installed it and
didn't notice anything, until now. So I think that the problem is that
fakeroot 'Conflicts' on the wrong package. Does this sound reasonable?

If my thoughts a correct, then fakeroot is now partially broken on a number of
systems (that is, it is not my local problem) and something should be done with
this. Although I can erinstall it manually, it would be better if it would be
done automatically for all affected users.

Best regards,
Dmitri Gribenko

Bug#540633: O: rdiff-backup -- remote incremental backup

2009-08-09 Thread Daniel Baumann
Package: wnpp

Hi,

this package is in good shape. I'm orphaning it.

instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Description: remote incremental backup
rdiff-backup backs up one directory to another, possibly over a
network. The
target directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse
diffs are stored in a special subdirectory of that target directory, so
you can
still recover files lost some time ago. The idea is to combine the best
features of a mirror and an incremental backup. rdiff-backup also preserves
subdirectories, hard links, dev files, permissions, uid/gid ownership,
modification times, extended attributes, acls, and resource forks.
 .
Also, rdiff-backup can operate in a bandwidth efficient manner over a pipe,
like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to securely back a
hard drive
up to a remote location, and only the differences will be transmitted.
Finally,
rdiff-backup is easy to use and settings have sensible defaults.

See rsync hanzubon.jp::debian which *is* an archive mirror.

Peering, as opposed to transit; maybe you are connected to peer
networks, so that users from these peer networks get quite high speed
data to your mirror, without much extra transit costs for you.

Bug#532056: cfv: Fix Deprecation Warnings, package build with python 2.6

Krzysztof Klimonda wrote:

Thanks for the patch. I am preparing an upload, but when testing it fails
for Python 2.5 since it installs into
/usr/lib/python2.5/dist-packages/cfv.py

dist-packages should be used for Python 2.6, but is not in sys.path for
python 2.5.

The cause of the problem seems to be

mkdir -p debian/cfv/usr/lib/$(shell pyversions -d)/$(call py_sitename, $*)

where py_sitename returns 'dist-packages' instead of 'site-packages'
(which is in the 2.5 sys.path). I'm unsure where $* gets assigned the
current python version; it seems to be empty, causing py_sitename to give
the default 'dist-packages'. Replacing $* with 2.5 makes the package work,
but I dont want to hard code it to a specific version.

So instead I used

mkdir -p debian/cfv/usr/lib/$(shell pyversions -d)/$(call py_sitename,
$(shell pyversions -d))

which seems to work fine, and python-support also picks up the module and
does its magic.

Regards,
 Stefan

Apparently, this old bug you reported back in 2007 hasa been ignored
and no further investigation happened.

I just tried to reprocude it, exactly the way you mentioned:

Task: dannf
Section: user
Description: dannf
 long description
Relevance: 10

Note the same trailing whitespace in synopsis.

Then I launched "taslsel --test" and did choose the "dannf" task.

So, it seems that things are OK as of now...

I believe the patch (or something like it) has been applied upstream and
will be included in the next release. Upstream have a somewhat erratic
release schedule and no public VCS, unfortunately.

I just rebuilt it. The result is attached (did not sleep this night). I
could delve into the code a little bit, but I'm just way too tired (it
probably is an obvious null pointer dereference; well, it always is).
:-)

This looks as if the network is not running. Which network should the
device get attached to? What's the networks xml (virh net-dumpxml
)? Can you reproduce with virsh? What does "virsh net-list
--all" show?

Cheers,

P.S.: if possible please also check with 0.8.0 from experimental.

Bug#540640: libstdc++6-4.3-dbg is not useful

2009-08-09 Thread Philip Ashmore
Package: libstdc++6-4.3-dbg
Version: 4.3.2-1.1
Severity: important

I'm writing classes that derive from istream and streambuf so I need to see how
they're called.
To do this I installed libstdc++6-4.3-dbg and fired up kdbg.
libstdc++6-4.3-dbg seems to make no difference - I still can't step into the
libstdc++6-4.3
sources/headers, in fact the kdbg stack trace doesn't even mention line numbers.

Well, I couldn't resist and I put an assertion there.

Of course, there was a NULL pointer dereference: the "devices" pointer
is initialized to NULL at the top of the function and can never get
assigned any value (well, this is the case here):

,
| (...)
| libhal.c 3126 : LibHalContext *ctx is NULL

Bug#540641: rawstudio: crash with segfault

2009-08-09 Thread Thomas Hüsser
Package: rawstudio
Version: 1.2-2
Severity: important

When opening rawstudio on a directory with some images, rawstudio crashes and
the following error is logged:

Jul 19 16:52:54 sheena kernel: [ 5044.349716] rawstudio[8625]: segfault at
2cdfc310 ip b7c8df7b sp bf86e340 error 6 in
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.1600.1[b7b88000+3ab000]

The error appears on opening a directory with only two images.
As long as both images have NO priority set, there seems to be no problem.
But if I mark the first image as deleted and normally quit rawstudio, then
rawstudio will crash at next startup trying to open these images.

I reported this error also directly to rawstudio as bug no 294.

I still have the directory with the two images if this would be helpful for
anyone to test the error.

Hmm, you do know that it's your job to hand that list (including all the
reverse deps of reverse deps ...) to the release team including the
necessary dep waits so we don't have to reschedule them till all succeeded?

There is a reason we advise to only remove a .la file once it's (almost)
not used anymore...

Bug#449386: Please correct documentation

2009-08-09 Thread Geoffroy Youri B.
Hi !

In /usr/share/doc/cron-apt/README there is still mention of
"Dir::Etc::SourceList=/etc/apt/security.sources.list" as a sufficient option
to perform ONLY security upgrades (in "Alternate sources.list file" Section).

This is not true as mentioned in :

   /usr/share/doc/cron-apt/examples/config.gz

# You can for example add an alternative sources.list file here.
#  OPTIONS="-o quiet=1 -o Dir::Etc::SourceList=/etc/apt/security.sources.list"

This will *add* a new source list file and lead to a warning in case entries
in this file are already present in regular source files (ie. security in
/etc/apt/sources.list).

A solution is either to set SourceParts="/dev/null" as proposed in previous
message or to use an alternative apt.conf with APT_CONFIG pointing to the
source list you want with :

Dir::Etc::SourceList "/etc/apt/security.sources.list";

Don't forget additional options you might have set in /etc/apt/apt.conf since
this file is no longer use when APT_CONFIG point to another conf file.

Could you please update the documentation, it'll save time when setting up
cron-apt to update only a specific repo :)

Thanks for cron-apt
Cheers,
Geoff

I don't think that it's reasonable to report bugs against the
version of the package the reporter hasn't tried.

For particularly interesting bugs, I may choose to examine the
versions in Debian testing and (or) unstable (say, by installing
a fresh Debian Sid under UML or KVM.) However, I don't
currently have a permanently-running installation of Debian Sid
at hand and therefore cannot easily check these versions.

You could add a new file to /etc/ld.so.conf.d/ containing the string
"/usr/lib/i486-linux-gnu". Perhaps some package like libc6-i386 or
ia32-libs should provide such a file, not sure which. I'll tentatively
assign this to ia32-libs.

Well then it'll get removed from testing when the RoM from unstable will

Has this become better in more recent kernels, e.g. by more drivers/
subsystems adding entropy to the pool?

of course. that's why wherever possible, you should try to reproduce the
bug with current sid before reporting, to see if it still applies,
because that is the one we're developing. stable is dead, apart from
security fixes.

sure. if you can't or don't want to, this is fine. the maintainer will
always try to reproduce it, though its nice to safe the time in the
first place, when possible.

Is this assertion really true? My experience has been that quite a lot
of people actually want something a bit more, even if they don't know
it. openssh-server only Suggests those packages because I'm pretty
conservative about pulling in extra packages, but I know an awful lot of
sysadmins who want sshd for some kind of restricted sftp-only setup, or
who want sshd and want to automatically lock out people who try to
brute-force accounts, or similar. I genuinely think a task for this
would be a good idea.

Of course, we can quote unsupported anecdotes at each other all day. :-)

We should really make tasksel able to display extended descriptions of
tasks.

Just for testing:
- /etc/init.d/dbus stop (stops hald too)
 -> same problem

- In xserver-xorg-input-kbd changed default keymap to "de"
 -> same problem

I don't know where the bug is comming from, so I had chosen FVWM
because it's the one where the bug gets in sight.

Yes, this version should be capable of doing this.
It is not enabled by default, though.

The respective properties of the akonadiserverrc configuration file are
ExternalPayload and SizeThreshold in the [General] Section.
Basically the default is

[General]
ExternalPayload=false
SizeThreshold=4096

Meaning use of external payloads (cached content in files) is disabled (data
will be transmited through the data connection) and the limit, if it were
enabled, would be 4096 bytes, meaning smaller data items would still be cached
in the database.

Unless you are already using Akonadi for huge data items, e.g. mails with
large attachments, there is probably little to gain other then helping test
the feature.

Cheers,
Kevin

Putting the “Original-Maintainer” in copy, given there's no Uploaders at

Bug#540651: ufraw: zoom 1:1 (or 100%) does not work

2009-08-09 Thread Simon Dreher
Package: ufraw
Version: 0.15-2+b1
Severity: normal

The zoom button for 1:1 does not work: Instead of 1:1, it is zoomed only
up to 1:2. The same happens when 100% is typed in the zoom field. In the
info bar and the zoom field, the scale then is correctly displayed as
1/2 and 50(%). It would be great if the correct 1:1 zoom could be
allowed, as this would be the only possibility to check the real noise
or the influence of the color interpolation on critical details.

Best regards,
Simon

Bug#531086: [rkward] Drop cmake and libphon-dev build-depends, already provided by kdelibs5-dev

2009-08-09 Thread Julien Lavergne
Hi,

> we're currently discussing the pros and cons of adopting your suggestion on
> rkward-devel (see http://www.mail-archive.com/rkward-
> de...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg00476.html and follow-ups). Would you like to
> give us your point of view?

For me, the build-depends on cmake and libphonon-dev are not necessary
because there is already a build-depends on kdelibs5-dev (which provide
this 2 build-depends).

Just to make a clarification, if you do theses modifications on Debian
(official repository), this will affect only current development release
( Debian unstable, Debian testing and Ubuntu karmic). This doesn't
change the package for previous release (Hardy for example). If you want
to support more releases in your own repositories, and your own .deb,
you should stay like this to support more release. But for official
Debian repository, this 2 build-depends are not necessary.

I hope my explanation is enough clear, feel free to ask me more details
if you want :)

Regards,
Julien Lavergne

Bug#540655: empathy: is missing nearly all of the icons/emoticons/smileys for MSN chats

2009-08-09 Thread Fabian Greffrath
Package: empathy
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I know a lot of people with MSN accounts and I use Empathy to
communicate with them. However, Empathy is missing a lot of the usual
icons/emoticons/smileys that can be used in MSN chats, including some
more exotic ones like Cat and Dog but also some more common ones. This
is a regression from pidgin which offered a redrawn set of icons
featuring substitutes for *all* of the standard MSN icons. This bug is
espacially annoying since all these icons are still installed on the
system via the pidgin-data package (that has been pulled in by
telepathy-haze and libpurple0) but aren't used by Empathy.

Thanks,
Fabian

Bug#540415: tab too early on start = segfault

2009-08-09 Thread Sebastian Harl
Hi,

(Cc'ing Max, the upstream maintainer, hoping for feedback / comments.)

Thanks for reporting this and providing useful information to trace back
the problem. As you suggested the problem arises from handling key
bindings before the connection has been set up.

Currently, connecting to the server is done using 'g_timeout_add' which
does not guarantee any reliably timing. So, it might happen after the
main loop has been started and after processing key events.

Anyway, connecting to the daemon might fail, so we cannot rely on having
a connection in the first place. So, I guess this should be fixed by
letting the mpd_*() functions (in libmpdclient.c) check for 'connection
!= NULL' and returning with an error (or empty result) else.

Max, what do you think?

Cheers,
Sebastian

Bug#513382: Filesystem backend

2009-08-09 Thread LEDUQUE Mickaël
So if I set ExternalPayload to true and SizeThreshold to zero, it won't
start the mysql server at all?

One valuable gain would be to get rid of the mysql dependency, but it won't
because the dependency wasn't removed from the akonadi-server package

Hi.

-nojoystick option works. Added alias to shell and now all mplayer
calls adds this option.

How about reversing current behavior. Disable joystick by default (it is
used only by small percent of users), and enable it using explicit
-joystick option?

About exporting of device we should ask hdaps* and tp-smapi packages
maintainers. But i think some important tools uses this interface.

Thanks for reporting this and providing detailed information!

Unfortunately, I'm not into the 'snmp' plugin at all and I do not have
the time to have a closer look at that. With this message, I'm
forwarding the bug report to the upstream mailing list, hoping for
feedback and patches ;-)

Cheers,
Sebastian
