Please protest if I should > not NMU to fix this issue with fossology. :) We just recently finally got a fix for the libextractor RC bug that had been holding up the next fossology upload this whole time. While an NMU wouldn't hurt, I will be doing an upload soon that fixes some other bugs and backports a couple fixes from the next planned upstream version. severity 574565 wishlist thanks ]] Jonas Smedegaard | Package: ssl-cert | Version: 1.0.25 | Severity: serious Serious? What would the justification for that be? | ssl-cert adds a group at install which is not removed again at purge. Yes, this is normal behaviour, and I think it's wanted behaviour in this case as you'll quite easily end up with files not owned by a named group if we remove the group again. | Also, since ssl-cert creates only a group, and order of install or purge | is nondeterministic, other packages cannot reliably cleanup the group if | they are purged last. Order of install is determined by dependency fields, quite deterministic, I'd say. | Problem discovered during resolving of bug#574214. Bug#574565: should remove ssl-cert group at purge if unused, and maybe add user to group
Hi Tollef, On Sat, Mar 20, 2010 at 10:20:13AM +0100, Tollef Fog Heen wrote: severity 574565 wishlist thanks ]] Jonas Smedegaard | Package: ssl-cert | Version: 1.0.25 | Severity: serious Serious? What would the justification for that be? I used same severity as is used for piuparts discoveries of packages leaving behind files after purge. No, that was not "justification", and frankly I was unable to locate any cleanup reuirements at all in Debian Policy, so I guess that you are free to treat such sanity as wishlist only. | ssl-cert adds a group at install which is not removed again at purge. Yes, this is normal behaviour, and I think it's wanted behaviour in this case as you'll quite easily end up with files not owned by a named group if we remove the group again. True, if we unconditionally remove the group. What I suggest is to remove it if unused, which I believe does not lead to the described problem. | Also, since ssl-cert creates only a group, and order of install or | purge is nondeterministic, other packages cannot reliably cleanup the | group if they are purged last. Order of install is determined by dependency fields, quite deterministic, I'd say. Ok, you are right that the use of Pre-Depends ensures install order. Depends does not. Pre-Depends is generally discouraged, however. Common package managers like aptitude try hard to also order by Depends but that is not guaranteed, I believe. | Problem discovered during resolving of bug#574214. This seems to be a missing depends on the group or failing to add the group if it does not exist already, not in any way related to whether ssl-cert removes the group on purge. A missing Pre-Depends on ssl-cert would indeed solve that bug, yes. Pre-Depends are generally discouraged, however, and there is a better approach here - which is why I filed this other bugreport. Only adding to the group if the group existed would also solve that bug (without strong dependency on ssl-cert: the package works fine without ssl-cert installed), but then there is the problem of non-deterministic install order. What I did was to create the group if it did not exist already. I dislike this, however, as the package then second-guess parts of the functionality of ssl-cert which might change in the future (and if it changes then quite likely ssl-cert only cleans up conditionally if *upgrading* from an earlier version, not if freshly installed - which would then cause problems if other packages have second-guessed old behaviour of ssl-cert). Hi Marco (and others), On Sat, Mar 20, 2010 at 07:20:54AM -0300, Marco Túlio Gontijo e Silva wrote: Excerpts from Jonas Smedegaard's message of Sex Mar 19 23:19:09 -0300 2010: The cdbs package is maintained in the collab-maint group at Alioth which means all Debian developers already have write access and anyone else can request membership of the group as well - just mention your reason for needing such membership when requesting it: for helping co-maintain cdbs. Would it be possible to make a CDBS release immediately when I, for instance, want a change in the haskell snippet to be in the archive, to make it sync with the new release of the dh_haskell* scripts? Sure. New releases are done as needed - there are no "release cycle" to care about or something. The only thing I can think of is if - as have been the case the last weeks - we already have some changes in the pipeline that we want to reach testing before we do another release. In other words: if you want a cdbs release with less than 10 days delay then better warn 10 days ahead. But that really is a corner case, and I doubt in reality we would be inflexible if such clash of interest really occured :-) I'm assuming you're not saying I should include the dh_haskell* scripts in the CDBS package. Correct. You'd have to discuss with Joey if he feels similar about addon debhelper modules. And if you do, I am curious about his response - he is a wise guy and even if we disagree on design principles (I dislike how short-form dh7 reinvents make, and he dislikes all of cdbs, I guess), I am sure we can learn from his viewpoints :-) If this is possible, I see no problem in moving hlibrary.mk to the cdbs package. If Haskell is too fast-moving for maintainance with cdbs, then it might make sense to separate tiny parts into something shipped with the Haskel tools - similar to how Python ships their competing python-central and puthon-module tools, which several CDBS snippets then make use of through a commandline interface. Haskell is not too fast moving, but when there's a change needed, we often need it to be applied and released immediately, since there are libraries waiting to be uploaded. What python-central and python-module does is provide a shell script belo /usr/sbin that can be queried about things like "which is the default Python version on the currently running system" and "which are the possible Python versions currently on this distribution". I imagine both debhelper dh_* modules and CDBS *.mk snippets can then query that shell script to ideally only need to maintain that one script when Python packages are upgraded - and only if Python _policy_ changes does the modules/snippets need to be restructured. Does that make sense? Perhaps if you elaborate on the kind of changes you can envision will be needed for Haskell, we can try help come up with a good separation ot tools. Bug#563391: Package Trac 0.12 as well

I will start packaging here: svn+ssh://svn.debian.org/svn/python-apps/packages/trac-0.12 But so far there is neither a downloadable Trac 0.12 source archive, nor do we have a suitable version of Genshi in Debian. Trac 0.12 seems to need Genshi trunk, while Debian has the latest official release 0.5.1. We have to wait until Genshi 0.6 is out. I fear, this won't happen before Squeeze freeze and the quality of the Trac 0.12 package would be qustionable without sufficient testing time. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Hi Eckhart, I can confirm that the behavior matches that bug. Setting DisableChecks=true seems to work as well. (five or six consecutive logins without issues) If I'm reading the Debian version right, I'm running KDE 4.3.1 (Debian squeeze/testing x86 package kde-standard, fully up to date.) I'm also using the Xorg (1.7.5) radeon driver with EXA acceleration mode and use KDM to log in. I'm not certain if it is related, but I'm using grub2 with GFX mode 1400x1050x32 (My laptop's native resolution) and gfx payload = keep (To keep that resolution in my console as well) Kernel mode setting is not enabled. Yes, this would be a very valid option to get the feature in - apt-ftparchive doesn't have a maintainer currently who takes care of features and/or bugs and is therefore in (very) low maintenance mode, but if you have a patch and/or you are willing to write one i will try to help you as much as possible to get it into the official version. Bug#574708: libpam-ssh: Interact badly with cron, nagios and munin?
Package: libpam-ssh Version: 1.92-10 Severity: important I ran into a problem with Debian Edu based on squeeze, where the libpam-ssh package is installed automatically. We also install several cron jobs, nagios and munin. The problem I ran into was that cron processes did not exit, and the system ran out of file descriptors and memory. Were not able to debug in properly, as I had 2600 cron processes and all swap was used. Ended up using 'killall cron' to get the machine limping along. After killing all these cron processes, I noticed pstree reporting ~400 ssh-agent processes. The only source I could thing of for these processes is the libpam-ssh package, so I have purged it from the system and hope to not experience the same problem again. Perhaps it is a good idea to check how libpam-ssh work with cron jobs? Bug#574709: RM: kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking -- ROM; obsolete and FTBFS
Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal Hi archive team, the package kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking has been obsoleted by kmymoney 3.96.1-1 uploaded to unstable yesterday. The plugin libraries contained in the package kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking are now part of the package kmymoney, so there is no need for a separate package anymore. For upgrades from Debian Lenny to Squeeze the package kmymoney contains Conflicts and Replaces dependencies that should indicate to the package management that kmymoney2-plugin-aqbanking is to be removed on upgrade of kmymoney. Bug#574710: education-common: Should not install and enable libpam-ssh by default
Package: education-common Version: 0.844 Severity: grave Tags: patch User: debian-...@lists.debian.org Usertag: debian-edu As reported in bug #574708, I believe libpam-ssh causes problems with cron. And given the fact that Debian Edu never have enabled this module and do not really need it, I believe we should reduce its depend on ignore (or perhaps even drop it?) in the common task to avoid the problem. The problem only show up in squeeze/testing, because pam configuration is not set up automatically based on information provided by the libpam* packages. This enable libpam-ssh and exposes us to its behavior. This patch reduces it from depends to ignore. Bug#573272: transition: ruby1.9 -> ruby1.9.1
Lucas Nussbaum writes: > What needs to happen is: > - remove the ruby1.9 source package from testing. > - make sure all the library packages have been transitioned and migrated > to testing. This has not happened yet. I think you should file an explicit rc bug against ruby1.9 indicating that it needs to be removed, this absolutely ensures that it will happen before the release. > How do you want to proceed? > > I could provide migration hints for those packages, so we don't have to wait > for the 10 days delay, and also a removal hint for ruby1.9. I don't think we are at that point already, but there's also nothing the release team can do in the meantime. So I guess you should just continue your work :-) Marc -- BOFH #173: Recursive traversal of loopback mount points pgpuVNacdeSkx.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#574717: mingw32-ocaml: Supported arches
Package: mingw32-ocaml Version: 3.11.2+debian4 Hi, It seems you currently restrict the arch list to: i386 amd64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 Is there a reason for this? Both mingw32 and ocaml seem to be supported on all arches (except for mingw32 on hurd-i386). I also don't get why you need to build-depend on gcc-multilib. You have this in your rules file: # Note that we must build a 32 bit compiler, even on 64 bit build # architectures, because this compiler will try to do strength # reduction optimizations using its internal int type, and that must # match Windows' int type. (That's what -cc and -host are for). But the size of an int doesn't change for 32 and 64 targets. Only the size of a long and a pointer do. The description even says: This compiler runs quickly, generates compact code with moderate memory requirements, and is portable to essentially any 32 or 64 bit Unix platform. I currently see no reason not to set the arch list to any. Kurt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#574718: mingw32-ocaml: embedded code of other packages.
Package: mingw32-ocaml Version: 3.11.2+debian4 Hi, It seems your source tree contains those tarballs: findlib-1.2.5+debian.tar.gz flexdll-0.11.tar.gz ocaml-3.11.2.tar.gz Atleast findlib-1.2.5 and ocaml-3.11.2 are part of Debian. I understand that you might need source of those packages. But it would be much nicer if you could solve this with build-depends. I suggest that you ask for a ocaml-source package, like it for instance exists for gcc-4.4-source and various other packages. From the description I dont get it: Description: enable SSO behavior for ssh and pam This PAM module provides single sign-on behavior for UNIX using SSH. Users are authenticated by decrypting their SSH private keys with the password provided (probably to XDM). In the PAM session phase, an ssh-agent process is started and keys are added. "Users are authenticated by decrypting their SSH private keys with the password provided (probably to XDM)." - what??? I believe the description suffers from buzzword overdose ("single sign on" sounds fancy, but is actually something else/more than this), bad english (I guess it shall read "On authentication, existing ssh private keys are unlocked with the password supplied to login and added to ssh-agent" or such) and in-accurancy ("_probably_ to XDM" - it should list which DMs are supported for real.) (Does my reading of the description sound correct? If so, I will file a bugreport with suggestions for better wordings...) Also I think such a pam module is bad idea as it is a bad idea, to use the login password to protect ssh keys with. IMO we dont loose anything if we drop it from our radar. cheers, Holger signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#574721: edos-distcheck: Please don't consider (versioned?) build-essential packages always installable
Package: edos-distcheck Severity: wishlist Hi, Please could (at least versioned) build dependencies on build-essential package not always be considered installable? The situation this is a nuisance in, is for the avr32 port on debian-ports. The avr32 port still only has libc 2.5, so every package that depends on locales or libc >= 2.{9,10} (of which there are now quite a few), slip straight through edos' net, meaning I have to continually manually mark them as failed until the dependency can be satisfied. It may be an idea to extend this to not mark /any/ build-essential as installable, since in the case of debian-ports, these packages may well have not been built yet. How this relates to #545381, I'm not sure. Thanks. Bug#565809: openchange: New release needed for evolution 2.30
Package: openchange Severity: normal Hi, I second the request to package version 0.9, since it is required for evolution 2.30. If we want to complete the evolution 2.30 transition in a reasonable timeframe, we will need this package. Thanks for considering, -- .''`. Bug#574358: [Pkg-libvirt-maintainers] Bug#574358: libvirt-bin: libvirtd fails to autostart iscsi pool at boot time
On Fri, Mar 19, 2010 at 09:15:54AM +0100, Nicolas Greneche wrote: [..snip..] > I don't understand why after a sleep, my ARP cache works ... It's very > odd ... It is weird but looks like a networking setup issue to me rather than a libvirt issue. Your ping and tcpdump proves this. Seems like either the network interface isn't really up yet or a switch or similar is broken. Although this isn't a libvirt issue we should try to find out what happens. Can you try to hook a bridge between your eth1 and the network switch and see if the arp request leaves your host at all? Maybe you can also use the switches diagnostic software. What kind of iSCSI target is this? Might it fail to generate the arp reply in time? It looks like the 2.6.32.10 package fixes the problems I was having with the video drivers, so I guess we can forget this bug now. I am also seeing the iwlagn flood you noticed, but it looks like that's being dealt with. -- Chris Butler GnuPG Key ID: 4096R/49E3ACD3 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
