Bug#705982: Wireless connection drops and will NOT re-connect -- Debian/Wheezy RC1 64 bit

2013-04-23 Thread Wayno

Package: Unknown
Version: Wheezy RC1 (64 Bit)

HP Pavilion G6 2323DX. Running Wheezy RC1 64 bit. AMD Radeon HD 7640G
Discrete-Class graphics card, WITH or WITHOUT proprietary drivers.
Power management settings, set to DO NOT SUSPEND.

Once any screensaver (gnome-screensaver or xscreesaver) engages, the
wireless lan (atheros AR9485 -- using ath9k driver) drops offline, and
can not be reconnected, without doing a reboot.

Removed all screensavers, it stays connected.

Connect box keeps re-appearing multiple instances for wireless connection.

Severity: High. Leaves computer physically un-protected.

Reproducible.

Bug#705983: squid3: Please remove patching of visible_hostname

2013-04-23 Thread Amos Jeffries

Package: suqid3
Severity: important

Summary:
the current squid3 packages are forcing users to manually override
the package patch or face HTTP denials from upstream proxies.
A good description of what users encounter is documented at
http://www.squid-cache.org/mail-archive/squid-users/201304/0112.html

Cause:
The squid3 package currently patches Squid to forces visible_hostname
to always be defined with a value of localhost. This patch appears to
be the remnant from Squid-3.0 and older which could abort with FATAL
messages when visible_hostname is not successfully auto-detected.
However that issue has since been resolved upstream with a default of
localhost being used when gethostname() fails.

In the thread linked above the ubuntu keyserver machine and the test
proxy were both installed from Debian derived packages containing this
patch and left with the package defaults. In the working self-build the
patch was missing and auto-detection correctly identified the hostname
to differentiate the servers.

When visible_hostname is configured (manually or via this patch) the
Squid auto-detect functionality is completely disabled. Which requires
admin to manually override the patched visible_hostname with the
hostname which should have beent auto-detected.

Please remove this part of debian/patches/01-cf.data.pre.debian.patch

Bug#702999: SIGABRT sometimes when compiling

2013-04-23 Thread Javier Domingo

 Hi Javier

Thanks for your info. The error reported by the self-test page can be
 ignored.
Self-tests are actually not meant for endusers and upstream has just this
 month
added the possibility to disable them in the upcoming release. It's
 probably
because you have your own autocompletions defined.

As to the new crash, you mention two things:

 1. texstudio gets blocked while evince is open
I've always used evince with texstudio 2.3 (not the internal viewer) and
 I've
never seen this. This morning I've downgraded to the version you are
 using. I
don't see evince blocking. What do you mean by blocking?

I mean that the editor is frozen, I move with the mouse wheel and doesn't
happen anything, neither the cursor moves.

Does this only happen with the special version or with the normal wheezy
 version as well?

This just happens in the package you told me to use, I am just using that
one.

 2. crash about an assertion failure (buildmanager.cpp:1058)
Your previous post sounds like you get the crash while the self-tests are
running. In you latest post it sounds more like the crash is related to
 evince?

I think they are not related. I saw that a self-test failed and nothing
more. Has nothing to do in my opinion with the crash:

I recorded the crash with gdb:

Minor patch to clarify units of Acquire::http::Dl-Limit. Tweaks the
placement of the subsequent note as well, which previously consumed the
 period inside its parens.
[..]

This looks good. I applied this to the debian-experimental2 bzr branch
now. It would be total fine for debian-sid but its in a translatable
man-page, so after applying it now will have to update the
translations. Once the freeze is over I will upload it to unstable.

Thanks,

Thanks for your bugreport and your patch.

apt-get upgrade and dist-upgrade commands take no (package) arguments,
yet do not produce an error like others.

The patch looks fine, I merged it into the debian-experimental2 branch
now.

It's hard to tell when exactly during the installation process you had

What do you mean by a TTY console is in use during the installation?

Lowering the severity anyway as I don't think this is a bug (if one)

Bug#705971: debian-installer hangs when tty console in use (console-setup)

2013-04-23 Thread Stefano Forli
The bug happened when the actual installation of packages started.
Unfortunately, I didn't save the log message before rebooting.

The TTY I mentioned is one of the text consoles available through
Ctrl-Alt-Fx (I would say the one I had was the 3), with a Busybox
prompt.
When the installer stops and hangs at the console-setup configuration,
it is not possible to kill the old busybox process nor start a new
one.
I guess the 'normal' priority is right, although for me it was a
show-stopper for my installation, and I had to abort and repeat the
entire process.
I'll try to install it again using a VM to see if I can catch it with
more details (and snapshots, maybe?).

Thanks for the reply.

I think it should NOT (automatically) fall back to using email.
Unfortunately email is unlikely to be available (in general).

You can configure it that way, if you like.

I'd prefer that way to be the default.

I have no idea why submission via HTTP failed. Can't it log more

Bug#705987: packages.debian.org: changelogs have gone missing

2013-04-23 Thread Tomas Pospisek
Package: www.debian.org
Severity: normal

The package changelogs have gone missing on packages.debian.org:

  $ curl -s http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/|html2text
2/dev/null
  ** Index of /changelogs/pool/main **
  [[ICO]] Name Last_modified Size Description
  ===
  [[DIR]] Parent_Directory     -
  ===
Apache Server at packages.debian.org Port 80

The directory containing the changelogs is empty. Package changelogs in
this directory are being referred to by:

  * aptitude (press 'C' key on a package)
  * packages.debian.org/package (- Changelog link)
  * PTS (- changelog link)

Thus currently any of these link to html pages that now do not exist any
more.

Thanks

Bug#663357: uscan: Please support scanning git repositories for tags

2013-04-23 Thread Maximiliano Curia
Tags: + patch

Hi,

I'm attaching a very basic patch that adds git support to watch files.

With this patch a watch file of the form:
version=3
git://anongit.kde.org/bomber.git tags/v([\d.]+)

Would get the version status from the tags (thanks to git ls-remote command)
and could fetch the corresponding tar.gz (thanks to the --remote option of git
archive, this requires that the repository has upload-archive enabled).

Both git commands act on the remote repository directly and don't need/nor use
the local repository, if any.

Thanks,

Bug#705988: logcheck-database: Postfix rule updates for ignore.d.server

2013-04-23 Thread Simon Waters
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.3.15
Severity: normal

Wheezy box with hostname validation checks and verify cache

I needed three rule changes to silence normal reports from postfix on Wheezy.

^\w{3} [ :[:digit:]]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ postfix/smtpd\[[[:digit:]]+\]:
warning: hostname [. _[:alnum:]-]+ does not resolve to address [[:digit:]\.]+(:
Temporary failure in name resolution|: Name or service not known|: No address
associated with hostname|)$

This rule includes text from existing rules, so perhaps those rules can be
retired? The repetition of : in the text is unwieldy.

^\w{3} [ :[:digit:]]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ postfix/verify\[[[:digit:]]+\]: close
database /var/lib/postfix/verify_cache.db: No such file or directory \(possible
Berkeley DB bug\)$

This rule addresses known spurious Berkeley DB warning.
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/postfix-users/message/261323

^\w{3} [ :[:digit:]]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ postfix/verify\[[[:digit:]]+\]: cache
[-._:[:alnum:]/]+ full cleanup: retained=[[:digit:]]+ dropped=[[:digit:]]+
entries$

The cache name will by default begin btree:/var/... so I've added a : to
existing rule after the word cache.

Sure maintaining these lists is a thankless task, so thanks, saves me a lot of
egrepping.

 Simon

Some concerns were raised on that bug so please find attached an updated sbuild
debdiff which take those concerns into account.

Please define lightweight.

Two good links to descriptions of the term lightweight.

http://mjg59.livejournal.com/136274.html

There are already a lot of QtWebKit

This is just plain wrong. *nothing* binds for example rekonq to a kde
environment. Please stop spreading such clueless wrong statements.

are not actively developed or very unstable and miss
  important features.

This is also wrong. THere is both rekonq and konqueror around.

But there is missing a multiplatform, modern and
  actively developed browser.

There is both rekonq and konqueror around.

So, I hope you will polish up the descriptions to get the facts straight
before uploading the package.

When submitting a bug, please file it against either a package that does
exist, or against the general pseudo-package, otherwise your report
will not reach any maintainer at all, and will get lost unless
reassigned (which I did now).

If you do not know which package may be responsible, guessing or using
general is still preferable than filing it against something that the
BTS does not know about.

 Hi,

Hi,

(Disclaimer: not the maintainer).

I'm attaching a very basic patch that adds git support to watch files.

With this patch a watch file of the form:
 version=3
 git://anongit.kde.org/bomber.git tags/v([\d.]+)

Interesting idea and I suspect it will be very useful.

Why do you use 2-arg open here? A 3-arg open would avoid issues
with quoting. E.g.

open(REFS, '-|', 'git', 'ls-remote', $base)

Also, the return value of open is not checked. So if it fails (e.g. git
is not installed) it will cause a lot of warnings from reading an
unopened handle.

Bug#705989: devscripts: [uscan] Lookup pattern in the text contained in the html a tags as well

2013-04-23 Thread Maximiliano Curia
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.13.0
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

Following my previous patch, I also added a new uscan option, uselinktext,
that makes uscan to also search the version in the text contained in the
a.../a, instead only checking the href value.

A bit of a complex example would be:
version=3
opts=uselinktext,filenamemangle=s!.*/([^/]*)$!xawtv-$1\.tar\.gz!,downloadurlmangle=s!commit/([^/]*)!snapshot/$1\.tar\.gz!

 Dear Maintainer,

upgrading slapd and slapd-smbk5pwd to 2.4.31-1+nmu1 results in slapd not
starting, if the smbk5pwd module is loaded:

51740f86 slapd destroy: freeing system resources.
 51740f86 slapd stopped.
 51740f86 connections_destroy: nothing to destroy.

There is a suggestion online[0] that this is due to unsatisfied dependencies
 in
the dynamic linked libraries but `ldd` does not confirm this:

We were also bitten by this. Dynamic linking is broken, as evident by
LD_DEBUG:

LD_DEBUG=all slapd
...
864: /usr/lib/ldap/smbk5pwd.so: error: symbol lookup error: undefined symbol:
hdb_unseal_keys (fatal)

After digging a bit deeper, this is caused by the amd64 binaries being
linked against MIT kerberos and *not* heimdal:

apt-cache show slapd-smbk5pwd:amd64 | grep Depends
Depends: slapd (= 2.4.31-1+nmu1), libc6 (= 2.4), libgcrypt11 (= 1.4.5),
libkadm5srv-mit8, libkrb5-3 (= 1.6.dfsg.2), libldap-2.4-2 (= 2.4.7)

apt-cache show slapd-smbk5pwd:i386 | grep Depends
Depends: slapd (= 2.4.31-1+nmu1), libc6 (= 2.4), libgcrypt11 (= 1.4.5),
libkadm5srv8-heimdal (= 1.4.0+git20110226), libkrb5-26-heimdal (=
1.4.0+git20110226), libldap-2.4-2 (= 2.4.7)

This was probably caused by the build environment in the uploader's machine,
since amd64 was uploaded as evident in [1].

Installing libkadm5srv8-heimdal and LD_PRELOADING
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libkadm5srv.so.8 gets slapd to start.

I have yet to understand how the package could have ended up linking against
MIT kerberos, since openldap build-depends on heimdal-dev which conflicts with
libkrb5-dev.

A binNMU for amd64 should resolve the issue.

Regards,
Apollon

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package failed to install. As
per definition of the release team this makes the package too buggy for
a release, thus the severity.

/usr/share/dpm is missing. Either the package needs a Depends: on some
package that ships that directory or every package using alternatives
needs to ship this as an empty directory.
update-alternatives does not create missing directories to place
symlinks in there.
*Don't* mkdir this in the maintainer script, but ship this empty and let
dpkg care for creation/removal.

This bug is found in several binary packages built from src:lcgdm, see
the Affects list.

Andreas

Unfortunately it would swap it for another set of issues, as
libldap-2.4-2 is Multi-arch: same, making binNMUs problematic.

This will need a new source upload, built in the correct environment.

Unfortunately, as I've just mentioned in the openldap report, a binNMU
isn't a great solution here. libldap is flagged as Multi-Arch: same,
which means that binNMUing it on amd64 will make it non-coinstallable
with the package from other architectures. The package will need a
source upload, built correctly.

(As an aisde, it generally helps if you provide more context in the bug

Bug#705996: Returns before DAD completes, unusable interface

2013-04-23 Thread martin f krafft
Package: ifupdown
Version: 0.7.5+nmu1
Severity: important
Tags: ipv6

See http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2012/11/msg00038.html:

ifupdown configures v6 addresses on inet6 interfaces just fine,
except IPv6 uses DAD (duplicate address detection) as
a safe-guard. While DAD is running, the address is flagged
tentative on the interface, meaning that it cannot be bound to.

While there are hacks around this, and while arguably software
should be able to handle changing interfaces, this isn't yet the
case.

Hence I propose that ifupdown's init script should not return until
DAD is completed on all interfaces/addresses it managed.

2013-04-23 Thread Arnaud Installe
Package: fprintd
Version: 0.4.1-5-g73edad0-3
Severity: important

fprintd sometimes stops working. This happens very infrequently. From the
moment it happens, the fingerprint reader won't be activated any more for
unlocking the screen / logging in, and passwords have to be entered again.

Since it happens very infrequently, I don't have much more information, except
perhaps this line from /var/log/messages (though I'm not sure it occurred at
the time fprintd stopped working):

When the problem occurs again, I will check if this message gets logged again.

Bug#678252: Please drop gcc-4.4 build dependency now

2013-04-23 Thread Robie Basak
It has been almost a year since the last comment on this bug. Upstream
still don't appear to support building the embedded ssl library on the
current gcc in a way that works.

Can the decision to build with gcc 4.4 instead of disabling the i386
assembly optimisations now be reconsidered? Perhaps with a view to
making this change when jessie opens?

Note that AFAICT the optimisations are only enabled when __i386__ is
defined, so amd64 has been relying on gcc's optimisation for the
portable C equivalent anyway. I think it's also reasonable to doubt the
usefulness of the assembly that's being used, since it was clearly
designed and compared against an older version of gcc, and using a newer
gcc invalidates any assumptions that the assembly optimisations provide
any performance benefit anyway.

There is a regression risk, but only if the underlying code is broken.
Since the test suite detected the original problem, I think it's
reasonable to consider it to have adequate coverage to manage the risk.

So can we now define TAOCRYPT_DISABLE_X86ASM and drop the use of
gcc-4.4 please?

2013-04-23 Thread Pedro Magín Fragoso Martínez
Package: dmidecode
Version: 2.11-9
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

SMBIOS 2.34 present.
# SMBIOS implementations newer than version 2.7 are not
# fully supported by this version of dmidecode.
49 structures occupying 1868 bytes.
...

and the dmidecode utility adds warning in the form of comments to the output
which are included in fields like serial number and bios version:

$ dmidecode -s system-manufacturer
# SMBIOS implementations newer than version 2.7 are not
# fully supported by this version of dmidecode.
IBM

the result should be only IBM

When I use ocsinventory-agent, the extra lines appear wherever the OCS agent
pulls a string from dmidecode. For example, the Manufracturer or Model
section include the extra two lines before the output:

# SMBIOS implementations newer than version 2.7 are not
 # fully supported by this version of dmidecode.

I've noticed that the serial number, manufacturer, model, BIOS manufacturer,
BIOS version, BIOS data, ASSETTAG, and Uuid fields all include this extra noise.

Bug#705996: Returns before DAD completes, unusable interface

2013-04-23 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Andrew Shadura bugzi...@tut.by [2013.04.23.1256 +0200]:
The question is how to detect this properly. Does `ip monitor` give
 any information about that?

Yes, as far as I can tell, ip monitor does only issue an event when
DAD completes.

If I run

  ip -6 a a 2001:a60:f10a:0:22cf:30ff:fe2a:7c07/64 dev lan

I see immediately from ip monitor the route it adds:

2001:a60:f10a::/64 dev lan proto kernel metric 256

but it takes 2 seconds for the following to be printed:

  4: laninet6 2001:a60:f10a:0:22cf:30ff:fe2a:7c07/64 scope global
 valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
local 2001:a60:f10a:0:22cf:30ff:fe2a:7c07 via :: dev lo table local proto
none metric 0

checking with `watch -n 0.1`, I can confirm that this coincides with
the removal of the 'tentative' flag.

So all you need is a read loop on ip monitor's output like so:

ip monitor address | while read n iface proto address rest; do
[ $iface = $IFACE ]  [ ${address%/*} = $IF_ADDRESS ]  break;
  done

This works in a hook (up at the end of the stanza), but it's ugly
(it causes ip-monitor to be killed with SIGPIPE).

  Dear Maintainer,
Running World of Warcraft in wine has some nasty side effects:
  - No audio in vlc media player while totem is unable to playback video
 as well
  - Gnash (+html5) video streaming cannot be started/unpaused

  Notes:
  There is sound in WoW.
Closing WoW causes gnash to start video playback.
(gnash): Videos started before WoW work fine.
(vlc): Videos (audio) started before WoW break.

i assume you're using alsa, which is notorious for not playing well
with multiple sound applications. I've had a lot of success using
pulseaudio instead. So, can you give that a shot?

 Best wishes,
 Mike

Bug#690087: selinux-policy-default: sshd shell transitions are always denied

2013-04-23 Thread Paul Donohue
To work around this issue without patching and recompiling the policy:

cd /etc/selinux/ ; mkdir -p fixes ; cd fixes/

Create ssh_cat_fix.te
  module ssh_cat_fix 1.0;
  require {
type sshd_t;
  }
  typeattribute sshd_t mcssetcats;

checkmodule -m -M -o ssh_cat_fix.mod ssh_cat_fix.te
semodule_package -m ssh_cat_fix.mod -o ssh_cat_fix.pp
rm ssh_cat_fix.mod

When protecting sshd with this policy, the transition that occurs when running
the user's shell is always denied, which prevents users from logging in:
 type=AVC msg=audit(1349808486.496:121): avc:  denied  { transition } for
 pid=3120 comm=sshd path=/bin/bash dev=dm-0 ino=554
 scontext=system_u:system_r:sshd_t:s0
 tcontext=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 tclass=process

The reason is that the daemon has no MCS categories assigned to it, so the mcs
policy constraints prevent the addition of categories.

As best as I can tell, sshd is not supposed to have any categories, and the
 user
is supposed to have categories, so this behavior should be allowed. (Did I
 miss
 something here?)

Assuming this behavior should be allowed, editing
 policy/modules/system/authlogin.if and adding mcs_process_set_categories($1)
in the auth_login_pgm_domain interface fixes this problem.

Installing the previous 0.5.4-1 restored it and worked around the

This is caused by a too old libvirt in sid. We're also lacking a newer

this doesn't get uploaded soonish we'll need to revert the version in
  sid.

I just got it by this bug as well and IMHO the current solution
(upgrading to the versions in experimental) is not fine: virt-viewer in
sid is still broken and, after having visited the bug report, there is
no ETA for a fixed version in sid.

BTW, I know I am complaining without helping, but I am currently lacking
time for my work as well :-(

It's fixed now in sid. I'm sorry for the long delay.

No problem, and actually I am grateful to you for the notice.

Nevertheless, I now get a segfault and since restarting libvirt-bin does
not change anything I removed the fixed tag:

xfsprogs: xfs_quota allow user or group names beginning with digits

xfs_quota does not properly parse users or groups that begin with a
number.

Only call atoi when user or group consists of digits only.

Here we have said oxt.

Given all extensions so far are called libreoffice-* (see above) I would
suggest calling this libreoffice-zotero-integration (as
libreoffice-zotero-openoffice-integration doesn't make sense)

In any case, this all is in xul-ext, so maybe even the xul-ext stuff should
be in a xul-ext-zotero-libreoffice-integration package which depends on
libreoffice-zotero-integration?

Bug#706007: zotero-libreoffice-integration: unopkg use broken/harmful

2013-04-23 Thread Rene Engelhard
Package: zotero-libreoffice-integration
Version: 3.0.11.1-26-g08fb709-1
Severity: serious

Hi,

in #705998 you say:

the extension is intalled by a postins file with the following command:

 unopkg add --shared /usr/share/xul-ext/zotero-libreoffice-
 integration/install/Zotero_OpenOffice_Integration.oxt

when the package is updated I have a prerm file with the following command:

 unopkg remove --shared org.Zotero.integration.openoffice

This is bad. Really.

Better is to unzip the oxt into /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/extensions. Then
you don't need unopkg anymore as LO will figure it out on start. [1]

*If* you want to keep using unopkg, pleas euse the INSTDIR hacks as
shown in
http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-openoffice/libreoffice.git;a=blob;f=shell-lib-extensions.sh;h=299c6b292759f78a5c808e252df8ea20480b2e43;hb=refs/heads/debian-experimental-3.5.
Otherwise you run various problems (as those below)

But even then you might run into situations where your package doesn't
install cleanly (stuff created in /root), doesn't remove/purge cleanly
(stuff in /var/spool/libreoffice, said /root above), ... so it's better off
NOT doing it.

Regards,

Rene

[1] in 3.5 helped by triggers running unopkg, later (= 3.6) this even isn't
neededed anymore and the trigger just runs a touch to make LO know
something changed

- zotero bug.

Use that one. (Maybe in the way which got applied to writer2latex 1.0.2-9)

I do not understand if I made a mistake in packaging the extention or this is
 due to changes in libreoffice.

The latter.

(I tried the version of the application from zotero website and works ok)

Which probably was said newer version in the link above and thus it works

and no option to ignore this.

as a workaround:

i had to set:

before starting iceweasel

export NSS_ALLOW_WEAK_SIGNATURE_ALG=1

it would be good to have an option to allow this on a site by site basis in
the browser.

the nss website says the above environment setting does:

Enables the use of MD2 and MD4 inside signatures. This was allowed by
  default before NSS 3.12.3.

when connectiong to the server via:

 openssl s_client -connect

i get:

Server public key is 1024 bit
Secure Renegotiation IS NOT supported

when i examine the self signed certificate it tells me:

$ openssl x509 -in q -text | grep Signature

so i am not really sure why this is rejected at all. but i thought i share

Description : mass rename tool using regular expression

Re-name (regular expression (re)name) is a tool to rename files. It can
change, lowercase and uppercase a batch of files, or modify their ownership.
It is a small and quick tool written in C so it's quicker than most rename
 tools written in shell scripts.

Rename is powered by the extended regular expression for searching and
substituting string patterns in the file names.
 .
The main features of rename are:
 .
   * Substitue strings in filenames.
   * Search and substitue strings in filenames by POSIX regular expressions.
   * Uppercase or lowercase filenames.
   * Support batch mode rename.
   * Recursively processing directories and subdirectories.
   * Support to read the filename list from a file.
   * Change ownership of files.
   * Safe mode: test before you go.

Bug#706023: parted: mkpart screws up value if start is 1 plus a unit

2013-04-23 Thread Len Sorensen
Package: parted
Version: 2.3-12
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

If you try to create a partition starting at 1MiB and ending at the end
of the disk by doing:

mkpart primary 1MiB -1s

You can a warning about alignment (which is obviously wrong given 1MiB
is perfectly aligned), and the start is instead 63s.

If you do:

mkpart primary 2MiB -1s

you get exactly what you asked for, and the start is sector 4096 (512byte
sectors of course).

If you do:

mkpart primary 1MiB -1Mib

you get exactly what you asked for and the start is sector 2048.

mkpart primary 2048s -1s

also does what you ask for.

mkpart primary 1024KiB -1s

also works perfectly.

It seems that if you use different units for the two values, and the
first value is 1, then it does something messed up.

Using 1.0MiB doesn't change the behaviour, it is still broken.

Bug#678252: [debian-mysql] Bug#678252: Please drop gcc-4.4 build dependency now

2013-04-23 Thread Clint Byrum

On 2013-04-23 05:17, Robie Basak wrote:

It has been almost a year since the last comment on this bug. Upstream
still don't appear to support building the embedded ssl library on the
current gcc in a way that works.

Can the decision to build with gcc 4.4 instead of disabling the i386
assembly optimisations now be reconsidered? Perhaps with a view to
making this change when jessie opens?

Note that AFAICT the optimisations are only enabled when __i386__ is
defined, so amd64 has been relying on gcc's optimisation for the
portable C equivalent anyway. I think it's also reasonable to doubt
the

usefulness of the assembly that's being used, since it was clearly
designed and compared against an older version of gcc, and using a
newer
gcc invalidates any assumptions that the assembly optimisations
provide

any performance benefit anyway.

There is a regression risk, but only if the underlying code is broken.
Since the test suite detected the original problem, I think it's
reasonable to consider it to have adequate coverage to manage the
risk.

So can we now define TAOCRYPT_DISABLE_X86ASM and drop the use of
gcc-4.4 please?

+1 from me. I have also started working on packing a non-embedded
cyassl for Jessie, and I hope to link MySQL 5.6 against it. Presumably
MariaDB can do the same.

Bug#706024: isdnlog-data: should be Multi-Arch: foreign

2013-04-23 Thread Sven Hartge
Package: isdnlog-data
Version: 1:3.25+dfsg1-3+nmu2
Severity: wishlist

Hi!

I am using isdnlog in a mixed 32bit(user)/64bit(kernel) environment,
MultiArch is enabled and amd64 is configured as second architecture.

To be usable, the isdnutils have to be from the 64bit arch, but isdnlog-data
(which is arch:all) does not satisfy the dependency of isdnlog:amd64, because
it is not marked as Multi-Arch: foreign.

I locally recompiled the isdnutils package with isdnlog-data marked as such
and was successfully able to install and use isdnlog and isdnlog-data.

Grüße,
Sven.

Bug#670711: ucf: should be tagged Multi-Arch: foreign

2013-04-23 Thread Sven Hartge
Hi!

(I CC'ed Christian Perrier, because he seems to be the de facto
maintainer of ucf these days.)

If I understood things correctly, ucf, as an 'Architecture: all'
package, needs to be tagged with 'Multi-Arch: foreign' to support
 multiarch installations.

I recently stumbled upon this bug as I was trying to install isdnutils
in a mixed 32bit(user)/64bit(kernel) environment. ucf:all was not able
to satisfy the dependency of isdnlog:amd64.

A local recompile with Multi-Arch: foreign made things work and I have
thus far not encountered any problems or bugs by doing so.

Grüße,
Sven.
