Bug#775400: clamav-freshclam: freshclam cant download virus definitions
Hi Sebastian, On 17.01.2015 00:53, Sebastian Andrzej Siewior wrote: -- debconf information: clamav-freshclam/http_proxy: this looks strange. But it is not your doing, right? It seems the debconf setting is corrupted, which is really strange. I will try to test the new d-i for jessie. So maybe I can reproduce this… I haven't been able to reproduce this on a fresh jessie. I learned that Germany has two cities to choose the timezone now. Büsingen? That annoyance is supposed to be fixed, see #765976. Other than that, everything works as expected. As Andreas said, one bug we can fix, the other (freshclam not downloading anything) is expected if the proxy is broken. And we have currently no idea how that deconf-db and later the freshclam.conf got corrupted. But Ulrich's answer in the other email is a little unexpected: |I did nothing manually. Finally i took a look into /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf |and found a active HTTPProxyServer line right below a FTPproxy line. The |FTPproxy line was commented out but HTTPProxyServer was active. Both lines |showed strange strings at the end of the line. I simply commented out the |HTTPProxyServer line. If you enter a http proxy via debconf then the config file will look like: |# Proxy: host1 |HTTPProxyServer host1 so there should be this commented out Proxy: line, not FTPproxy. There is no FTPproxy string the whole package. So let's keep this bug report about the /var/lib/clamav ownership issue. If anyone finds a way to reproduce this HTTPProxyServer problem, please open a new bug. Bug#761815: installation adds entries for USB media to /etc/fstab which confuse udisks

Plus the problems with udisks. 100% agreed. My patch currently only prohibits adding of USB device entries. Should this be extended to floppies and CD-ROMs? What about kfreebsd and hurd? I'm not sure about CD-ROM/floppies or other devices with removable media. I also don't know about kFreeBSD or Hurd. IMO this should be fixed before the release as it causes unexpected and inconsistent behavior. Agreed. I've personally at least encountered 3 people having problems with using USB media under desktop environments (KDE or GNOME) due to these entries in /etc/fstab. I'm thinking the best way to go with this is to simply drop this misc USB device support altogether from partman-target. Any objections? As someone hit by this, yes please. I like to start from a fairly minimal debian install, so when I add udisks post-install, I could still be hit by it if the other previously mentioned patch is used. Just removing that removable media handling support would be ideal. Thank you. -- Cameron Norman

Doable? Martin, did you actually test that version? If so, please let us know. Sure. Updated debdiff attached. (Did I get the revision right? Note that I dropped the nmu-ish .1 as I felt the +deb8u1 qualifier consumes it) Ivo had concerns with regards to a t-p-u upload, and said he'd prefer instead a path via unstable. To summarize my verbose reply: this fix has been in unstable for 3 weeks now, albeit in the newer sudo version. The attached debdiff just backports this fix to the older sudo. So if everyone is OK with the above, I guess all that remains is for someone to sponsor the upload. I'm still not convinced. You didn't really give an argument why an update via unstable wouldn't work. As my main concern is about tests for this version, I suggest you go ahead with the upload to t-p-u based on your patch (the version in your patch is ok). Once that version is in t-p-u, people can at least get it from there if they want to test is (which might not happen that often, but without the upload, it won't happen at all). Don't remove the moreinfo tag from this bug when the upload enters t-p-u (unless you have other info to add to the discussion). Leave it there for at least 5 days. After that, remove the moreinfo tag from this bug and let us know whether you had any reports about the upload (good or bad). We will review the situation at that point. chown() and write() should clear all privilege attributes on a file - setuid, setgid, setcap and any other extended privilege attributes. However, any attributes beyond setuid and setgid are managed by the LSM and not directly by the filesystem, so they cannot be set along with the other attributes. Currently we call security_inode_killpriv() in notify_change(), but in case of a chown() this is too early - we have not called inode_change_ok() or made any filesystem-specific permission/sanity checks. Add a new function setattr_killpriv() which calls security_inode_killpriv() if necessary, and change the setattr() implementation to call this in each filesystem that supports xattrs. This assumes that extended privilege attributes are always stored in xattrs. Compile-tested only. XXX This is a silent change to the VFS API, but we should probably change something so OOT filesystems fail to compile if they aren't updated to call setattr_killpriv(). Bug#775605: hdparm.conf settings fail if mult_sect_io option is used.
Package: hdparm Version: 9.43-1.1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, After attempting to persist some hdparm setttings using the hdparm.conf file I noticed that (none of) the settings were being applied at boot. each boot resulted in the following in /var/log/sysconfig: Jan 17 19:39:21 debian hdparm[206]: Setting parameters of disc: /dev/sda failed! Jan 17 19:39:21 debian hdparm[206]: /dev/sdb failed! Jan 17 19:39:21 debian hdparm[206]: /dev/sdc failed! Jan 17 19:39:21 debian hdparm[206]: /dev/sdd failed! The alterations to my hdparm.conf file were: mult_sect_io = 16 and a block at the end of the file: /dev/sda { write_cache = on } /dev/sdb { write_cache = on } /dev/sdc { write_cache = on } /dev/sdd { write_cache = on } I *can* set these options manually: # hdparm -m16 --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing /dev/sda /dev/sda: setting multcount to 16 multcount = 16 (on) # hdparm -W1 /dev/sda /dev/sda: setting drive write-caching to 1 (on) write-caching = 1 (on) If I remove the mult_sect_io = 16 option from the hdparm.conf file, (and leave the block dealing with the write_cache) then the settings are applied correctly when the machine boots and I get the expected confirmation of this in /var/log/sysconfig, e.g.: Jan 17 20:30:20 debian hdparm[207]: Setting parameters of disc: /dev/sda. Jan 17 20:30:20 debian hdparm[207]: /dev/sdb. Jan 17 20:30:20 debian hdparm[207]: /dev/sdc. Jan 17 20:30:20 debian hdparm[207]: /dev/sdd. I *suspect* that the problem relates to the fact that you can't use the -m option on the command line without the --yes-i-know-what-i-am-doing switch, (this is just a guess but I can't see any sign of this switch in the init script, there is also no mention of needing this switch in the man page.) Bug#760582: cinnamon: Pidgin Notifications Not Appearing
Hi, Sorry for the late reply. Notifications are happening OK with Gnome 3.12, booted into Cinnamon 2.2.x this morning and noticed Pidgin not giving me desktop notifications when someone responds to one of my texts. Not sure if this is an occurence with all Cinnamon apps or just pidgin at this point. I'll update if other apps seem to be affected. I'm trying to reproduce the problem, but I'm not sure what you mean by desktop notifications could you elaborate on how you've set up your pidgin notifications so that I can try to reproduce the bug? Bug#771301: Failure to set up md-RAID device backing /usr partition in initramfs

I think this bug report is actually describing more than one bug in more than one package that have similar symptoms. There might be things that can be fixed in mdadm and lvm2 to fix the initramfs-tools/0.117 regressions without needing to implement a full event-driven setup in initramfs-tools. RAID (Elimar, Sven) Elimar Riesebieter's System 2 has a bunch of mdadm (RAID) partitions. Elimar, what is in your /etc/default/mdadm on System 2 (and System 1 for that matter)? I predict that the answer includes something like INITRDSTART=/dev/md6. The problem here seems to be that mdadm tries to determine a minimal set of multi-disk partitions need to be assembled by the initramfs based on the assumption that the initramfs only needs the root device; but initramfs-tools = 0.117 wants to mount /usr as well, so that assumption is no longer true. So it might be necessary to modify mdadm so that, if /usr is a separate filesystem on (a LVM VG on) a MD array, it will try to prepare that too. [...] Given that there is an INITRDSTART setting to explicitly specify the wanted devices, and that the default value of 'all' will continue to work, I am inclined to document this problem in NEWS and release notes. We could do a bit better by checking for this case at upgrade time and showing a debconf error, or even better by offering to fix it. I don't think the problem is likely to be common enough to deserve that much work. Bug#775176: please manage address/port listenings with the conf.d snippets system or something similar
retitle 775176 please manage address/port listenings with the conf.d snippets system or something similar stop On Sat, 2015-01-17 at 13:51 +0100, Harald Dunkel wrote: This bug report is about the files provided with the package. All I'm asking for is using a2enconf instead of ports.conf. I've understood that (and I corrected the title accordingly, since that implied something completely different)... So I did some tests just now, and unlike to what I was sure myself before, it *does* work, that you remove e.g. Listen foo:80, and still have Vhosts enabled which are configured for foo:80. Sorry for not having correctly verified that earlier. Therefore taking that back and claiming the opposite ;-) So you were right in that matter, one can actually make the Listen like a feature one disables/enables. At least the vhosts will continue to work, but just those where one still has listeners (e.g. on 443) will answer. I have *not* checked though, whether it works with all other places in apache, which refer to internal ports/addresses ... e.g. there *may* be directives, which reference port 80, and that simply make daemon start fail when that is no longer listening. Now with respect to your request: In principle you can implement this already now: Just empty ports.conf and add your Listen statement to e.g. conf.d snippets... I'm OK with having a single file for both ports. ... but of course the above only makes sense when you have multiple ports.conf like files, e.g. a2en/dis http.conf a2en/dis https.conf a2en/dis svn.conf ...where each of them contains the Listen directive's for one of these protocols. Whether this makes sense in practical usage is another question,... I for example configure my sites to do what I want, and if I don't want the to listen on http, I just don't configure them to do so,.. or I set up an (insecure) redirect to https. And if I'd have no http altogether (in all my sites), THEN I'd remove the Listen line from ports.conf But I'd never switch one or the other on/off on a regular/daily basis. So for me personally(!!) it wouldn't make that much sense, and I still think the handling should stay as it is... ...because, what definitely doesn't work (at least up to until Apache 2.2) is that you have the same Listen statement multiple times. So you cannot just add these to the sites configs (conceptually). So right now I think it makes more sense to take ports.conf as the single file that handles the listeners. Package: linux Version: 3.16.7-ckt4-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hi! The kernel package currently fails to build from source on sh4 since the build scripts try to pass the '-m32' compiler option on gcc which is not available with gcc on sh4 (also according to the manpage). Selecting HAVE_C_RECORDMCOUNT in arch/sh/Kconfig (see attached patch by Ben Hutchings) fixes the issues. However, I also suggest removing the line $cc .= -m32; for sh compiler options in scripts/ recordmcount.pl. Thanks! Bug#748657: make-dfsg: diff for NMU version 4.0-8.1
Control: tags 748657 + patch Control: tags 748657 + pending Dear maintainer, I've prepared an NMU for make-dfsg (versioned as 4.0-8.1). Testing fopen is machine-dependent and reliant on local ulimit values. The previous patch to simply timeout based on the (unknown) value of the current ulimit is inherently unreliable and machine-dependent. It would not seem sensible for a package like make to test the machine running the build instead of the code built by that machine. Calls to ulimit are not supportable within perl due to architecture-specific limitations and calling ulimit from a child process would not affect the ulimit of the calling perl process. So, overall, the only option as far as I see it is to simply skip this misguided test. This replaces a meaningless fopen result with: misc/fopen-fail . [...] -- 765426: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=765426 Debian Bug Tracking System Contact ow...@bugs.debian.org with problems This bug report belongs most probably to the 'udev' package. Changing the group of '/dev/fd0' from 'disk' to 'floppy' causes 'eject' to shut off the floppy drive light after a few seconds, although some messages are shown. I believe that a floppy drive activity light is normally connected to the spindle motor, i.e. it indicates whether the disk is spinning. It is supposed to be turned off automatically by the driver when the drive is idle, and cannot be directly controlled by userland, so this doesn't make any sense to me. eject /dev/fd0 or floppycontrol --eject /dev/fd0 is now necessary to stop the disk spinning and then the floppy can be ejected mechanically as it is not software-controlled. The bug is therefore caused by creating the device with the wrong group. [...] I think that's a separate bug that exacerbates an underlying driver bug. This report should be reassigned to package udev or if a subject change is necessary be closed(?). I will then issue a new report to udev. The bug (regression) can be fixed in the file /lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules. The (block) devices /dev/fd[0-9] shall be (as before) in the group floppy as a write-permission is necessary to spin the drive down. I reported the bug to the udev-package (#775 144). The behaviou was decleared as designed and the bug report closed. I added the missing line to /etc/udev/rules.d/91-permissions.local.rules to keep it permanent, and that should fix this bug permanently. -- Bjarni I. I've dug into this bug, and I can tell you the exact problem. ploader is using libwx-perl, and newer versions of libwx-perl are no longer exposing the ParseDate() method from the WxWidgets library underneath. But it has also been reported in the Ubuntu version of this package: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/angband/+bug/1309711 I share your suspicion that this is a bug in libsdl-ttf2.0, but am uncertain of my grounds for reassigning the bug. Bug#762984: Alert! /dev/vg0/usr does not exist

I think this bug report is actually describing more than one bug in more than one package that have similar symptoms. There might be things that can be fixed in mdadm and lvm2 to fix the initramfs-tools/0.117 regressions without needing to implement a full event-driven setup in initramfs-tools. [...] LVM (Elimar's System 1, Sven, Torsten, IOhannes, Javier) In the LVM case, debian/initramfs-tools/lvm2/scripts/local-top does this: activate_vg $ROOT activate_vg $resume Note the lack of handling for /usr here. Further, activate_vg uses lvm lvchange to activate only the LV necessary for the root filesystem; if /usr is on a separate VG, it's not going to work. This on its own would be enough to make Sven Hartge's system fail: /usr needs a LVM partition activated that / does not. Similarly, I think Elimar's System 1 is going to activate vg0/root but not vg0/usr. [...] The ideal thing in both of these situations would be to use the same logic as *mounting* /usr - mount the rootfs first, then read its fstab to find out where /usr is, avoiding hard-coding that knowledge into the initramfs - but I think that would need a significantly more complicated hook structure. I'm proposing to add another hook for this, which will initially only be implemented by lvm2. So far as I can see, mdadm and lvm2 have to find the required devices in different ways: - mdadm cannot generally tell which RAID arrays are needed, as the root device may be identified by filesystem UUID or LV name but it only works with RAID array UUIDs and the component device names - lvm2 can tell exactly which VG is needed as a root device on an LV is identified by VG and LV name The same goes for mounting /usr. Bug#775645: iceweasel: multiple breakages in FF after upgraded to 35, when taking the old prefs.js
Package: iceweasel Version: 35.0-1 Severity: important Hi. Since I've upgraded to 35, I've experienced multiple issues. - One of them is the breakage of search load options, which I've already reported in #775391. - Another was that the search bar didn't work anymore at all (i.e. hitting enter and nothing happened at all). This turned out to be a problem in tab mix plus, which was solved by the version 0.4.1.6 already in experimental. But several problems remained, which I first suspected to be tab mix plus either: - Undo closing tabs (Ctrl-Shift-t) no longer worked. - session management (at least with the SM from TM+) didn't work anymore, neither on restart after crash, nor on loading manually saved sessions. I've reported these upstream at: http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2t=19018 I further found out that add block plus stopped working, which meant: - adds were shown - I cannot longer open the preferences of the add on (nothing happens when I click on the button). - And everything from add on's page in the add on manager is displayed broken,... it doesn't display the underscore on the objects, but before (see the screenshot for what I mean). So I came to the suspicion it may not be TM+ and digged deeper: With a fresh profile everything seems to work fine again, but it would be really annoying having to start from scratch, since I have so many settings in FF and all plugins. Bug#766982: RFS: plowshare4/1.0.6-1
Dear mentors, In the time that this request has been sitting here there have been two new upstream versions released. Since this tool depends on many external (website) APIs which are constantly in flux, it needs to be updated relatively often to keep pace. Is it best if I package these one version at a time keeping each diff minimal for easier review? Or should I just jump directly to the latest version and abandon the present request? It seems that my previous sponsor is still away from this list, so in the meantime if anyone else would consider sponsoring my package I would be very grateful. Rather, it's about whether, based on how the game is/was advertised and distributed, an average player would think of it as the same game or not. Chex Quest was a standalone game given away in breakfast cereal to children too young to be playing Doom, that's clearly not meant to be basically the same :-) That's why plutonia-wad and tnt-wad are now generated by final-doom.yaml. Technically, they're IWADs for a Doom II-compatible engine, so on a technical basis you could argue for them to be either two separate games like they were in shell-script-based g-d-p (because they're independent IWADs and you can in principle have one but not the other) or part of Doom II (because they run on the Doom II engine) - but they were sold together as Final Doom, a standalone game (as opposed to an expansion pack for Doom II), and so that's how I think their g-d-p support should be structured. Hacx is more ambiguous, because it isn't clear from the info I've seen whether it was originally sold as a Doom II addon, or as a standalone game with its own copy of the Doom II executable. I would tend to err on the side of separating it out rather than putting it in doom2.yaml, but I'll defer to the superior knowledge of people who've actually played it :-P S -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
