Bug#340537: closing a window will often freeze X

Bug#340886: gimp: Cannot paste as new screenshot
If the problem only occurs when gwenview is running, shouldn't this be a bug in gwenview? Robert Gomułka wrote: Package: gimp Version: 2.2.9-4 Severity: normal I have taken in KDE two screenshots, pressing ctrl-prtscr. One of them is opened by gimp acquire-paste as new perfectly, whereas second one is not. What is more important, pasting the image after creating new, empty in gimp does not work. Gimp shows busy cursor, that's all. After 30 seconds or so it goes back to normal work, but image is not pasted. History is empty. There is no problem with pasting the image into another application (in my case kolourpaint). I will attach the image and strace -p pid -o file output (attached before selecting paste, deattached after about 30 seconds). Two more things. First time I had klipper (KDE clipboard tool) enabled. I disabled it, then I also could reproduce the problem. Second, what is more interesting - I reproduced this bug only when I had gwenview (image browser) running on captured screen. I have different opinion. First of all, as I said in bug report, I could paste screenshot into different application. And second of all, which I haven't specified more precisely, I did: 1. Start gwenview. 2. Capture its screen (ctrl-prtscr). 3. Close gwenview. 4. Open gimp. 5. Acquire-Paste As new or just New image, then Paste. Both don't work. 6. Start kolourpaint (kde paint). Paste. When klipper was disabled, I couldn't paste into Gimp either. And what about my strace output? Isn't it helpful? Let me repeat - I capture my screen. I cannot paste it into Gimp. I can paste it into Kolourpaint. Accidentally, I cannot paste image captured while gwenview was running. Best regards, Robert

Bug#315168: aspell should be a required package for gaim
That would be for a wishlist bug. As it stands, nearly all packages that depend on aspell don't explicitly recommend any aspell dictionary. Michael Forbes wrote: Upon reading the Debian package relationship policy I understand that spelling should only be a recommended package for gaim. What is still unclear to me however is what libaspell15 can do without apsell. Having gaim require libaspell15 seems to do very little since libaspell15 alone adds no spell checking ability. I realize that the dependency issue is minor but I really think that gaim should at least inform the user that if spell checking is enabled and aspell is missing that spell checking will not work. Not everyone thoroughly examines all of the recommending packages when they are installing their entire system (ie. KDE+firefox+gaim+etc). -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#346313: amap license is not free
Package: amap Severity: serious The license for amap (which is not actually in debian/copyright, but rather LICENCE.AMAP in the source) is not free because it adds additional restrictions to the GPL. The amap authors seem to have no intention of fixing this. See the following e-mail transcript, in reverse chronological order: From: vh [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Ari Pollak' [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: amap license issues Date: Tue, 3 Jan 2006 16:17:46 +0100 Message-Id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi! hmmm so basically I need to edit the LICENSE.GNU file to remove the license name as well as to remove the no further restrictions paragraph from it? ok, I will do that then for the next release ... I never read the GPL I must say :-) thanks! cheers, vh -Original Message- From: Ari Pollak [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Dienstag, 3. Januar 2006 05:53 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: amap license issues Hi all, In the process of helping the author of pbnj (which uses nmap and amap for scanning) to package his program for Debian, I noticed some issues with the license of amap that would prevent further inclusion in Debian. It is my hope that these issues can be resolved, since amap is a very useful tool. I noticed that there are two licenses in the amap source tree, LICENCE.AMAP and LICENSE.GNU. If amap is intended to be licensed under the terms contained in LICENCE.AMAP, it may be licensed as such, but without #6. Part of the GPL is that You may not impose any further restrictions on the recipients' exercise of the rights granted herein. Unfortunately, this conflicts with items 1-5 of LICENCE.AMAP. Most of the .c files in the source (except for amapcrap.c) only contain the GPL preamble and make no mention of the additional amap license, so it's not clear what the copyright holders' intentions are with regards to distribution of amap. If item #6 is taken out completely and amap is relicensed solely by the terms in LICENCE.AMAP, #2 should be made slightly less vague to make sure that both distribution of both binary and source forms of amap are freely distributable. I have no problems with amap being licensed under either the GPL or a modified amap-specific license, but putting additional restrictions on the GPL causes uncertain legal problems for people who wish to distribute amap. Thanks for listening. I hope this message cleared some things up, and I hope I included everything of concern. If you still have any questions or issues, please reply to me directly. Bug#347599: RFA: drscheme
Package: wnpp Severity: normal The current PLT Scheme (drscheme) maintainers would like to put this package up for adoption. I don't have enough knowledge about Scheme, or especially PLT Scheme, to continue maintaining this in its current state. There is some cleanup that needs to be done with the package, outstanding bugs need to be fixed, it needs upgrading to version 300. I'd be happy to sponsor a non-Debian Developer who wishes to maintain this, or to co-maintain this package with someone who can help me with some of the outstanding issues. Package: gconf2 Version: 2.16.0-3 Severity: wishlist Currently, if a package wishes to install gconf schemas properly, it has to depend on gconf2 even if gconf is not required to use the package, since gconf-schemas is called in the package's postinst. gconf2's postinst should register everything it finds on install, so individual packages' postinsts can skip running gconf-schemas if gconf2 is not installed. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages gconf2 depends on: ii gconf2-common 2.16.0-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgconf2-42.16.0-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-0 2.12.4-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libxml22.6.27.dfsg-1 GNOME XML library ii psmisc 22.3-1Utilities that use the proc filesy ii python 2.4.4-1 An interactive high-level object-o Versions of packages gconf2 recommends: ii libgtk2.0-0 2.8.20-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Well, if gconf2 has not been installed before, then none of the schemas should have been registered, AFAIK. But a registry of some sort could work also. Bug#402589: O: drscheme -- PLT Scheme Programming Environment
Package: wnpp Severity: normal I intend to orphan the drscheme package. I have neither the time nor the expertise to properly maintain this package or fix the outstanding bugs related to the software itself. I've fixed all outstanding RC bugs, so the package is in a somewhat usable state at the moment. I will make a best effort to fix any new RC bugs that pop up until someone adopts this package, but I can't guarantee anything. The package description is: This is a Scheme Programming Environment, designed for use within an educational setting. The faculty and staff at Rice University developed this package to be used in programming curricula, as a supplement to mathematics courses, or for general programming instruction in a liberal arts setting. . It includes its own IDE (which runs under X) and is similar in some respects to Emacs (most noticeably in its keybindings). . It has an integrated help system and can run one of four modes (beginning, intermediate, advanced, complete). Each level exposes successively more features and options to the user. The goal of this configuration is to protect novice users from the more arcane behavior of Scheme under certain cases. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. This could of course be the GTK file chooser playing up, and happening to be provoked by Gimp, but it would be nice to know what's going on. Bug#392615: gaim: Tries to connect to Microsoft even if local server is configured

Bug#390753: Use of (this-expression-source-directory) leads to wrong library path in DrScheme
Thank you! It does indeed seem like find-collects-dir is faulty. This would explain why upstream couldn't reproduce the problem, because I was passing a trailing slash into DESTDIR and upstream wasn't. I'll try removing the trailing slash and see if that will fix the problem. On Tue, 2006-10-03 at 15:52 +0200, Soeren D. Schulze wrote: Changing line 37 in file src/Makefile.in to SETUP_ARGS = -mvqX `realpath $(DESTDIR)$(collectsdir)` -M setup apparently solves the problem. Explanation: The documentation in the package is outdated; a newer version of the MzLib reference describes that (this-expression-source-directory) returns a relative path if the directory is within the result of `find-collects-dir' from `(lib dirs.ss syntax)'. Apart from the fact that dirs.ss is in setup and not syntax, `find-collects-dir' does not seems to work if the path is not complete. The concatenation of $(DESTDIR) and $(collectsdir) causes two slashes to appear in a row, which stops `find-collects-dir' from considering it a complete path. The command-line utility `realpath' fixes this. I am, however, not sure if my solution is actually a fix or just a workaround. Maybe the behavior of `find-collects-dir' is just faulty. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
