Bug#802281: icedove: Stuck at "Welcome to Icedove"
Package: icedove Version: 42.0~b1-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Dear Maintainer, When I run icedove, the "Welcome to Icedove" dialog appears. However, none of the the three buttons on that dialog results in the dialog closing. The only thing to be done is kill the application. This is a new install of icedove on a new system (so no preexisting profile). I am running icedove (42.0~b1-1) from experimental (installed over (38.3.0-1)) Both do the same thing. regards Eliot -- System Information: Debian Release: stretch/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 4.2.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_NZ.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_NZ.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages icedove depends on: ii debianutils 4.5.1 ii fontconfig2.11.0-6.3 ii libasound21.0.29-1 ii libatk1.0-0 2.18.0-1 ii libc6 2.19-22 ii libcairo-gobject2 1.14.2-2 ii libcairo2 1.14.2-2 ii libdbus-1-3 1.10.0-3 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.102-1 ii libevent-2.0-52.0.21-stable-2 ii libffi6 3.2.1-3 ii libfontconfig12.11.0-6.3 ii libfreetype6 2.6-2 ii libgcc1 1:5.2.1-22 ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-02.32.1-1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.46.1-1 ii libgtk-3-03.18.2-1 ii libhunspell-1.3-0 1.3.3-3+b1 ii libicu55 55.1-5 ii libnspr4 2:4.10.9-2 ii libnss3 2:3.20-1 ii libpango-1.0-01.38.0-3 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.38.0-3 ii libpangoft2-1.0-0 1.38.0-3 ii libpixman-1-0 0.33.2-2 ii libsqlite3-0 3.8.11.1-1 ii libstartup-notification0 0.12-4 ii libstdc++65.2.1-22 ii libvpx2 1.4.0-4 ii libx11-6 2:1.6.3-1 ii libxcomposite11:0.4.4-1 ii libxdamage1 1:1.1.4-2+b1 ii libxext6 2:1.3.3-1 ii libxfixes31:5.0.1-2+b2 ii libxrender1 1:0.9.8-1+b1 ii libxt61:1.1.4-1+b1 ii psmisc22.21-2.1 ii zlib1g1:1.2.8.dfsg-2+b1 Versions of packages icedove recommends: ii hunspell-en-us [hunspell-dictionary] 20070829-6 pn iceowl-extension Versions of packages icedove suggests: ii fonts-lyx 2.1.4-2 ii libgssapi-krb5-2 1.13.2+dfsg-2 -- no debconf information
Bug#802281: icedove: Stuck at "Welcome to Icedove"
On Mon, 19 Oct 2015 08:22:11 +0200 Carsten SchoenertAbove you wrote you did a clean fresh new install, online later you wrote you > have installed the version from experimental over the versionf from > unstable, this is a little bit contrariwise. About this part, what I mean is that there was no previous working icedove being upgraded. So no accounts initialised or anything like that. I switched from unstable to experimental because that is what 'reportbug' prompted me to do. The experimental version failed to work in exactly the same way as the unstable one. I will look at getting more debug output and reply separately about that.
Bug#802281: icedove: Stuck at "Welcome to Icedove"
I can also confirm that 64 bit thunderbird 38.3.0 does *not* have this problem. I'm very surprised that (1) this happening, and (2) that nobody saw it. If you had seen it, you wouldn't have uploaded this version. BTW no need to tell me "you're on unstable so what do you expect" :) I (obviously) have other ways to send/receive email.

I don't think this is Mate-specific. I'm seeing it with regular Gnome desktop. This issue discusses the same problem. https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon-screensaver/issues/221 The seat name, which should be "seat0" is "seat0allow-timed-login" I have spent a couple of hours trawling through source code (online), but haven't reached a conclusion.
