2006-12-05 Thread Erich Minderlein
Hello

As I learnt recently ,
run-parts executes cron and this is intended behaviour
see man cron
not a BUG.

Bug#406102: apcupsd stable : Wishlist

2007-01-08 Thread Erich Minderlein
Package: apcupsd
Version: 3.10.17-2

The original powerchute package has a functionality, which allows to
stop the APC UPS immediately from an xwindow application powerchute
or to programm a daily or weekly stop/restart cycle.
This is convenient for offices and for power saving purposes.

This would be desirable to have included in a new deb package apcupsd
(or in a new package on top of it.)

I can offer
a sarge install on a PC connected to an APC SMART-UPS 1400 of the year
2000,
a second PC acting as slave with sarge
and a third PC on another subnet, currently with SuSE 7.3,
to reverse-engineer and analyse the interaction between the software and
the UPS,
and then to install debian possibly unstable or sid and to develop and
create a proper deb with these functions.

I need
people who know the apcupsd package, how to make a .deb,
discussion partners which listen, talk, give moral support, and look at
the developped code.

Thanks for your assistance

Bug#409018: nohwcap

2007-01-31 Thread Erich Minderlein
Hello

I refer to my posting

http://www.mail-archive.com/grml@mur.at/msg00781.html

in which a whole discussion thread deals with the subject.
It had also been relayed to the maintainers of x-servers x.org

IMHO the nohwcap issue shall be dealt with only by the kernel and / or
any other hardware related software, which are currently the Xserver and
the drivers only (in case of insertion / removal of hw).
No application should try to find something out about hardware.
Kernel shall do it once after booting, insertion or removal of hw only
and then hold the data in its virtual filesystem.

then such a weird device as /etc/ld.so.nohwcap is at best not existing
or second best once read updated during system boot, insertion or
removal of hw.

best regards
a system engineer

Bug#869698: Additional information

2018-01-11 Thread Erich Minderlein

Hello

This not only applies to the resume state, the mistake seems to be a
general one.

it also applies to a running desktop , where the screen should have been
blocked due to time out from inactivity.

Right now I  left the desktop running, had a nap and after return this
action occurred.

Returning after absence and doing input action such as mouse movement or
keyboard, the screen reappears from dark and shows the status as when I
left.

eventually the blocking occurs and the unblocking password input window
shows up.

I Use 2 desktops, both on actual systems

output uname -a

Linux `hostname` 4.9.0-5-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.65-3+deb9u2
(2018-01-04) x86_64 GNU/Linux

debianversion 9.3

MATE Desktop Environment 1.16.2

As should be :

Blocking shall occur, when the timer times out, instantly, OR before
suspend and similar operation

As is:

Blocking occurs, when when the timer times out AND input action occurs.
(Screen may be dark before)

Best regards

Erich Minderlein

Hi all

What is :

When checking out from X session as user 1000 and checking in as user 1001,
I had bad performance on my relatively limited notebook.

( different purpose = different user )

I found, as being root, that the following processes were left running,

This applies at least to users 1000 and 1001 , on my system, as I use
only these 2 accounts.

X Server / gnome / mate seems not to maintain a log of which processes
are being invoked and with what PID to purpose of killing them properly

What should be:

I feel, that no processes of a checked out user with uid >= 1000 shall
be left unintentionally running after checkout and not survive the
restart of the X server. (

batch, intended background or user cron jobs excluded of course )

Systemd shall do the clean-up after a logout, and make sure that all
processes are terminated or killed properly before the restart of the X
server. with the variety of X servers, graphic Front-ends and console
terminals.

I ask you kindly to modify systemd to clean up properly on log out from
the X or console session , or to forward to the correct package

Best regards Erich Minderlein

Bug#954448: Bug resolved with new nextcloud.desktop file

2020-04-11 Thread Erich Minderlein

Hi

I resolved the runtime error condition with attached .desktop file, to
be stripped off the .MATE and

put in ~/.config/autostart or in /usr/share/applications/

mate should have its own directory in the debian package hierarchy, just
as gnome or kde have their own.

Bug#792580: Chromium calls home , confirmed for

2020-04-14 Thread Erich Minderlein

Hi
I can confirm for chromium 80.0.3987.149-1~deb10u1
calling the fastlycloud in usa via IPv4

I blocked "151.101.0.0/16" in my router ,
https://api.fastly.com/public-ip-list

which also terminated gockel.com

Bug#958390: systemd: systemctl ignores soft links in /etc/systemd/system at boot

2020-04-22 Thread Erich Minderlein

Hi Michael

Your proposal to tamper with initramfs is off the target.
initramfs is well before PID 1. There ist no problem before PID 1.
It can only hurt or damage something.

systemctl list-dependencies my.timer
my.timer
● └─sysinit.target
● ├─apparmor.service
● ├─dev-hugepages.mount
● ├─dev-mqueue.mount
● ├─keyboard-setup.service
● ├─kmod-static-nodes.service
● ├─proc-sys-fs-binfmt_misc.automount
● ├─sys-fs-fuse-connections.mount
● ├─sys-kernel-config.mount
● ├─sys-kernel-debug.mount
● ├─systemd-ask-password-console.path
● ├─systemd-binfmt.service
● ├─systemd-hwdb-update.service
● ├─systemd-journal-flush.service
● ├─systemd-journald.service
● ├─systemd-machine-id-commit.service
● ├─systemd-modules-load.service
● ├─systemd-random-seed.service
● ├─systemd-sysctl.service
● ├─systemd-sysusers.service
● ├─systemd-timesyncd.service
● ├─systemd-tmpfiles-setup-dev.service
● ├─systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service
● ├─systemd-udev-trigger.service
● ├─systemd-udevd.service
● ├─systemd-update-utmp.service
● ├─cryptsetup.target
● ├─local-fs.target
● │ ├─-.mount
● │ ├─home.mount
● │ ├─systemd-fsck-root.service
● │ ├─systemd-remount-fs.service
● │ ├─tmp.mount
● │ └─var.mount
● └─swap.target
● └─dev-disk-by\x2duuid-x.swap

When you go down the tree, you find
level -1 sysinit.target
level -2 local-fs.target
level -3 home.mount

S systemd knows, that it must provide the mount of home before scanning
my.timer

I suggest you reopen the bug, because you have a race condition there,
which redhat seemss to have solved.

after some reading I see that two mounts may be needed :

systemctl list-units --type=mount --all
UNIT LOAD ACTIVE SUB DESCRIPTION
-.mount loaded active mounted Root Mount
dev-hugepages.mount loaded active mounted Huge Pages File System
dev-mqueue.mount loaded active mounted POSIX Message
Queue File System

home.mountloaded active mounted /home
proc-sys-fs-binfmt_misc.mount loaded active mounted Arbitrary
Executable File Formats File System

run-user-0.mount loaded active mounted /run/user/0
run-user-1000.mount loaded active mounted /run/user/1000
sys-fs-fuse-connections.mount loaded inactive deadFUSE Control File
System
sys-kernel-config.mount loaded inactive deadKernel
Configuration File System
sys-kernel-debug.mountloaded active mounted Kernel Debug File
System

tmp.mount loaded active mounted /tmp
var.mount loaded active mounted /var

That is the home mount and may be the user-1000-mount.

btw I have done som more testing with systemd.

There is nothing in
/etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-premount, except . and .. , :-)
as they are all in fstab , seems to be a race .

I have now added
RequireMountsFor=/home into the service files.
The problem continues.

I think, you have been too fast in closing this bug.
Initramfs is another site.
If I goof something in initramfs , then it will be gone with the next
kernel install.

debian 10.3 has nothing inside the initramfs script section,
I could not even copy and adopt a script.
systemd provides a job home.mount and is solely responsible for the
complete ordered startup through all runlevel. I expect this .

that the file system is mounted before any job wants to accces it.

My fix of this problem is to go back to cron and sysvinit, if systemd is
relying on the customer to sort, what the vendor of the package has not
achieved. So devuan is the the solution , because debian has integrated
systemnd so much taht there is no way back

Is that on a separate partition that has to be mounted during boot to
make it accessible?

systemd itself should have no problems with using symlinks, fwiw.

My guess is, that your $HOME/location/of/app/etc/systemd/system/
is not available when systemd is started during boot, so those files are
inaccessible. This obviously can't work.
You either need to move those files to a location which resides on your
/ partition or pre-mount /home in your initramfs before systemd is started.

Bug#1067884: KiCad no longer seems to recognize any of the built-in libraries

2024-04-12 Thread Erich Minderlein
I must correct my self: This was an update from devuan chimaera and an
old history concerning $HOME, which lives with me since years

Today I made a fresh install in a virtual machine and every thing works
fine.

Then I deleted directories

rm -r $HOME/.config/kicad $HOME/.cache/kicad $HOME/.local/share/kicad

I started KiCad again as $USER and it acknowledged the libraries.

This is an aide at least for those who do not have a valuable history in
KiCad

For the others the problem remains to be solved

best regards bugreportem
