Bug#608349: idle3: IDLE3 crashes when using autocomplete

2010-12-29 Thread Vincent Cheng
Package: idle3
Version: 3.1.3-12
Severity: normal

IDLE3 seems to crash when invoking the keyboard shortcut for autocompletion
(ctrl + space).

How to reproduce:
1. Start idle3.
2. Press ctrl + space.
3. Idle crashes, with the following on stdout:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/idle3, line 5, in module
main()
File /usr/lib/python3.1/idlelib/PyShell.py, line 1420, in main

self.tk.mainloop(n)
UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf8' codec can't decode byte 0xc0 in position 0: invalid

There actually is such an option, but it's not readily visible. The following
command will disable the background image and should leave you with nothing
else but a black background image:

$ gconftool-2 --set /apps/quadrapassel/options/usebgimage --type bool 0

Bug#594368: Bug #594368

2011-01-05 Thread Vincent Cheng
Mr. Filoni, are you still interested in adopting Gnote in Debian, as per
your ITA bug report? I'm interested in doing a QA upload to update Gnote to
the latest upstream version, and in addition, if you no longer intend to
adopt this package, I would be willing to adopt and maintain it myself.
Thanks!

Bug#594638: Bug #594368

2011-01-06 Thread Vincent Cheng
I've actually already built a working package for Gnote 0.7.3; I'm currently
hosting my debian/ directory, as well as a binary deb package (which
installs and works fine, and is lintian clean) on Github:
https://github.com/Vincent-C/gnote

https://github.com/Vincent-C/gnoteIf you'd like to use what I have
already, please feel free to do so, but keep in mind that I had originally
packaged Gnote with a QA upload in mind, so you're going to have to edit
debian/control and debian/changelog if you plan on adopting Gnote.

Also, Simon, to be honest I have no clue how to port Gnote to a different
Dbus implementation...I'm actually still learning the basics of Debian
packaging at the moment, so that's a bit out of my league at the moment. I'm
also unable to find the current upstream location of dbus-c++; dbus-cpp
seems to be deprecated in favour of dbus-c++, and I'm having trouble getting
dbus-cxx to build itself anyways, so I guess the only option left for me to
choose from is to disable dbus support for Gnote altogether. Would that have
an adverse effect on Gnote's functionality?

(If Mr. Filoni can port Gnote to a different dbus implementation, then that
would be awesome.)

Just a follow-up...I've found the upstream source for dbus-c++ (turns out I
missed its git archive), and I've successfully packaged it. Note that it's
NOT lintian clean at the moment. I have no idea about manpages because I
don't know what the binaries in dbus-c++-dev do, and the previous maintainer
didn't bother including man pages either, so I'm stuck.

Lintian output is in the README attached to that github repo. It's packaged
with a QA upload in mind.

Mr. Filoni, you would also have to adopt dbus-c++ and dbus-c++-dev if you
still want to adopt Gnote. If you would still like to do so, please feel
free to use my work; otherwise, I would just be as willing to adopt both
gnote and these dbus packages. :)

Ok, so what about the following plan:

 - QA uploads of tnome and dbus-c++ to update it to the latest version (as
 some users asked)
 - Then work with usptream and maintainer from other distros in getting
the next version of gnote using a different D-Bus implementation.

Bug#610257: Bug#610300: dropbox 1.0.17 distribution now complies to copyright complaints

2011-02-05 Thread Vincent Cheng
In response to Mike, you wouldn't find the source code for the Dropbox
daemon in any release, as it is proprietary (but still distributable, hence
non-free). However, Dropbox's Nautilus plugin is open source, and licensed
under the GPLv3 (Rian, please correct me if I'm wrong). Ivan's original
Dropbox package in Debian never included the Nautilus plugin though.

I'm a Dropbox + Debian user (and aspiring packager/contributor), so I would
be interested in adopting and maintaining this package if Ivan no longer
wants to take care of it. I'm very much new at Debian packaging; I've
learned the basics during Google Code-In a month ago, but I would definitely
appreciate the help of anybody with more experience, and I would also need a
sponsor to upload my package once it's done. I'm willing to put in the time
necessary to ensure that debian/copyright is compliant with the Debian
Policy, but again, I'll need some guidance to do so.

Best regards,

Bug#609295: ITP: naev -- 2D space trading combat game

2011-01-09 Thread Vincent Cheng
I forgot to add the long description to my ITP, so here it is. Sorry!

NAEV is a 2D space trading and combat game, in a similar
vein to Escape Velocity.

NAEV is played from a top-down perspective, featuring fast-paced combat,
many ships and outfits, and a large galaxy to explore. The game is highly
open-ended, letting players proceed at their own paces.

(revised man page is attached), and I've sent you a copy of my e-mail
indicating acceptance to Canonical's Contributor Agreement. Thanks!

Hi. You should generally keep lines within 70-80 characters, both in
email and code (or in this case, manpages). As this is a Canonical
project, would you be so nice to sign a Contributor's Agreement with
Canonical so we can push your work upstream? For information, see

Bug#604784: [Pkg-utopia-maintainers] Bug#604784: /usr/bin/palimpsest: man page missing

2010-11-25 Thread Vincent Cheng
I've tried to search for as much documentation as I could find about
gnome-disk-utility/palimpsest, but my search has turned up rather fruitless;
Gnome's documentation is very brief (
http://library.gnome.org/users/palimpsest/stable/advanced.html.en) and the
documentation in gnome-disk-utility's source tarball is centered on the
libgdu API, not on the usage of palimpsest itself. I'm having trouble
finding a reliable source of documentation to improve upon the manual page
that I've written so far.

For the moment, I've just added a brief example section in the man page.
(I'm sorry, but I don't see ..TH anywhere though). If/when I find
additional sources of documentation to expand upon what I've written so far,
I'll definitely have another go at this.

As for writing documentation based on Yelp, I think it would be a great idea
as well to expand on the little information available via Yelp on
palimpsest; I'll have to look into that later. At the moment, I still have a
lot to learn about writing manual pages. :)

 Hi Vincent,

 thanks for your contribution.
Such patches should best be sent upstream directly, so I'm bringing David
 into
 the loop here.

But tbh, I think integrating a proper help system (based on yelp) would be
 much
more valuable to our users as you can e.g. include graphics/screenshots and
 it
is directly accessible from within the gui.
See [1] for more details if you are interested in working on this.

The man page itself has a few formatting errors (e.g. ..TH, should be .TH)
 and
is very short. It doesn't really offer more information than the package
description and the output of palimpsest --help. To be really useful you
 should
explain e.g. the command line args in more detail, provide an EXAMPLE
 section etc.

 Cheers,
 Michael

Bug#604782: nvidia-glx: man page missing

2010-11-28 Thread Vincent Cheng
Sorry, that was a mistake on my part. For some reason, the man page looks
like it's been badly formatted; there's an extra period in front of every
line, which definitely wasn't there when I first submitted my man page. I've
got rid of the SEE ALSO section and fixed the formatting issues now.

Yes, my manual page may be distributed under the GPLv2+. Thank you!

There was a SEE ALSO reference to nvidia-glx(1) which does not exist.
Was this intentional? I commented this for now.

The Debian packaging scripts are distributed under GPL-2+ - can we
distribute your manual page under the same conditions?

Adding the page to SVN now, but probably it won't make it into squeeze.

Bug#617265: wesnoth-1.9: New version 1.9.4 is out for a long time already. PLEASE update.

2011-03-24 Thread Vincent Cheng
If you're willing to use cdbs, it should be doable to work around upstream's
removal of autotools support.

Example debian/rules file:

#!/usr/bin/make -f

include /usr/share/cdbs/1/rules/debhelper.mk
include /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/cmake.mk
include /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/makefile.mk

cdbs and cmake would also have to be added to Build-Depends in
debian/control.

Ideally, Wesnoth would continue to support autotools, but that looks
unlikely at the moment. :(

I've taken a closer look at this and I've tried to package the latest dev
release of Wesnoth (1.9.5). I've been using my own PPA to test it [1], and
it seems to build and run fine now. I've also attached a patch of my
changes, if that helps any.

 Hi Vincent,

I did the initial packaging work a few months ago now [1]. I don't remember
very well. I think I had working packages, but there was some kind of hack
needed to configure properly (as I remember). There was also a couple of
libraries shipped with the archive, some of them were not part of Debian
 last year.

You are welcome if you want to take over this ITP or work on the svn. I am
not sure I'll have plenty of time for 0ad this month.

I'd be glad to help you out with the packaging, although I admit I've had
very little experience with svn. Is there some sort of quick-start guide for
working with Debian's svn repositories?

Aside from that, I seem to be having quite a bit of trouble getting 0 A.D.
to build itself and run, as documented here [1].

Bug#626229: wesnoth-1.9: New upstream version (1.9.6)

2011-05-10 Thread Vincent Cheng
It was just published yesterday, it would be nice if you put less
preassure on the people that are doing a voluntary job here. Compiling
isn't done instantly, and private life also requests its attention ...
Please be notified that I'm in close contact with upstream and do
receive information about new releases directly. :)

Sorry about my impatience; I didn't mean to pressure you or anything.
Thanks for the work you've put into packaging Wesnoth for Debian! :)

For such a request it would be nice to have information on why you want
to have that enabled, and what's the benefit of it. Given that it seems
to be deactivated by default by upstream I would like to have more
 information on this request.

According to this forum thread [1], it provides support to better use
multiple cores, and it sounds like an intriguing feature to test out.
I'm just curious whether or not it'd make a noticeable difference to
Wesnoth's performance, that's all.

Regards,
- Vincent

I admit I don't really understand how cdbs works myself, so I ended up
going back to debhelper and building off of your debian/rules instead of
trying to write one from scratch.

Just a sidenote: Did you check where the files end up after your patch?
Do they appear in the same place as they were before? Including

Yes; see attached text file for the output of dpkg -L on my wesnoth-1.9

Your patch seems to completely rewriting the whole thing, actually I

Actually, I'm not entirely sure why my patches are even necessary to get
Wesnoth to build (sorry, I'm still relatively new to Debian packaging). I
changed the install structure after taking a look at Launchpad's build log
after one of my earlier failed builds [1]. Here's a snippet:

dh_install tried to copy a file from debian/tmp/debian/tmp/..., which is
why I changed Wesnoth's install structure the way I did. I'm not sure if
this was the right thing to do, but it did finally lead to a successful
 build in the end.

Unfortunately, I just tried building Wesnoth 1.9 with pbuilder on my laptop
(running Debian testing) with the exact same debian/ structure from my
successful Launchpad build, and it doesn't even get to the point of building
 itself.

I have no clue why it builds successfully in Launchpad, in Lucid, Maverick,
and Natty chroots, yet it fails unexpectedly when I try to build it myself

 Hi,

Are there any updates on this? I'm interested in seeing 0 A.D. in
Debian's repositories as well; would you like any help in packaging it?

 Kind regards,
 - Vincent Cheng

 Hi Vincent,

I did the initial packaging work a few months ago now [1]. I don't
remember very well. I think I had working packages, but there was some kind
of hack needed to configure properly (as I remember). There was also a
couple of libraries shipped with the archive, some of them were not part of
 Debian last year.

You are welcome if you want to take over this ITP or work on the svn. I am
not sure I'll have plenty of time for 0ad this month.

 Regards,
 Bertrand

I'd be glad to help you out with the packaging, although I admit I've had
very little experience with svn. Is there some sort of quick-start guide for
 working with Debian's svn repositories?

Aside from that, I seem to be having quite a bit of trouble getting 0 A.D.
to build itself and run, as documented here [1].

A working patch was provided on Wildfire Games' forums (and attached with
this e-mail); now 0ad can be successfully built and run. I'm going to upload
my packaging to Debian Mentors and see if anybody would like to sponsor this
package.

Bug#619903: chromium: Latest upgrade forgot all my saved passwords

2011-04-03 Thread Vincent Cheng
Hi,

This is a known issue, caused by an incompatibility between Chrome/Chromium
10 and the GNOME keyring, as documented here [1]. Workarounds are also noted
on that page.

(If you aren't using the GNOME keyring to store your passwords in Chromium,
then this would probably be a completely different issue; in that case,
please disregard this message.)

Bug#618850: Crawl: New upstream version (0.8.0) available

It looks like Crawl 0.8 was a day or so late, but it's out now! No changes
besides a changelog bump are necessary to build Crawl successfully. Only
problem is that it seems that Crawl 0.8 doesn't recognize any of my previous
Crawl 0.7.2 saves, but I'm unsure whether this is intentional or not.

If you want to remove both xboard and gnuchess from your system, you'd have

Bug#540456: exaile: dialogue boxes should select default button when Enter is pressed

2011-05-07 Thread Vincent Cheng
Hi,

I cannot seem to reproduce this bug (with Exaile 0.3.2.1). Using your
example (right-click on track, select Properties, press Add tag,
and pressing Enter), Exaile does select the default button, producing
another input box to add a tag. In addition, simple examples don't
exhibit this bug either. For example, Help About produces an About
Exaile dialog box; pressing Enter will close the window, since
Close is the default button.

Could you update to the latest version of Exaile (0.3.2.1) and confirm
whether or not this bug still exists for you?

Hi,

Looks like this bug still seems to be reproducible; when playing an

Bug#610257: dropbox 1.0.17 distribution now complies to copyright complaints

2011-02-15 Thread Vincent Cheng
As promised earlier, I've re-packaged Dropbox (based off of Ivan's work) and

grateful if any Debian developers/maintainers could look through my

Bug#613788: RFS: Dropbox

2011-02-19 Thread Vincent Cheng
I've uploaded Dropbox again to Debian mentors; it includes several suggested
fixes, and it's now one step closer to possibly being accepted into Debian.
(This isn't my final upload though.)

The package can be found on mentors.debian.net:
- URL: http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/d/dropbox
- Source repository: deb-src http://mentors.debian.net/debian unstable main
contrib non-free
- dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/non-free/d/dropbox/dropbox_1.0.20-2.dsc

Of the 52 libraries that was originally in the source tarball and in my
first upload, only a few remain. I've managed to track down the origins of
most of the libraries with apt-file, and instead of including those
libraries in the source tarball, I've set those packages as build-depends
and used dh_link to establish symlinks to Dropbox's directory.

Dropbox now depends on the following packages: python2.5, python-dbus,
libbz2-1.0, libssl0.9.8, libdbus-1-3, libdbus-glib-1-2, libpng12-0,
libpopt0, librsync1, libsqlite3-0, libssl0.9.8, libstdc++6,
libwxbase2.8-dbg, python-wxgtk2.8, zlib1g, python-simplejson,
python-netifaces

(I've chosen python2.5 over python2.6/3.1 because python2.5 includes all the
python-related libraries that Dropbox needs, whereas python2.6/3.1 only
includes some.)

The following libraries/binaries are still present in the source tarball
I've uploaded.

- _librsync.so: not present in librsync1. apt-file says that it's included
in the packages rdiff-backup and duplicity, but I'm unsure if they are
the same libraries.
- dropbox: the actual dropbox binary
- fastpath.so: I have no idea what this library is, or what purpose it
serves.
- ncrypt/*: ncrypt is not yet packaged for Debian. It seems that this
package has already been requested in a RFP bug report for python-ncrypt.
- netifaces/netifaces.pyc: this Python bytecode file doesn't seem to be in
Debian's python-netifaces package. I've no idea whether or not this is
needed, but I've included it at the moment for safe measure.

Eventually, only dropbox will be left in the source tarball. I'll have to
find some way between now and my next upload(s) to get rid of the remaining
libraries. It looks like I may also have to package python-ncrypt; if nobody
else is interested in this package, I'll look into it in the next few days
and try to package it. Incidentally, does anyone know where I might possibly
find the origin of _librsync.so or fastpath.so?

To address a few of the questions/comments I've received over the past few
days:
- I don't know Dropbox's actual distribution license, which is why the
license for the dropbox binary in debian/copyright only consists of
Copyright 2008-2011 Dropbox, Inc. All rights reserved. I've contacted
upstream to try and find out where I can obtain the actual license for the
distribution of Dropbox.
- While I don't have the text of the distribution license, the previous
Dropbox maintainer has given me a copy of an e-mail conversation he had with
a Dropbox employee who granted him permission to distribute Dropbox in
Debian. See /usr/share/doc/dropbox/dropbox.mbox.

Bug#544347: pygame: New upstream version 1.9.1 available

 Hi,

I am one of the Pygame developers and do most of my Pygame development on
Debian. But I also manage Pygame on 32bit Windows, which takes up a lot of
time building Pygame's dependencies. So I have not tried to create a Debian
package. But I am willing to answer questions if someone else does the work
of creating the package. If the package is experimental then it should use
the latest Pygame from svn head, 1.9.2 alpha. I constantly check that svn
head builds and runs on Debian. Pygame 1.9.2 alpha works well with Pythons
2.5 to 3.2. It supports NumPy for Python 3 and has new Sphinx generated
documentation. Further work has also been done on the camera module.

 Lenard Lindstrom

Hi,

I think the priority right now should be to get Pygame 1.9 into Debian
unstable first; there seems to be a number of packagers who need
Pygame 1.9 as a dependency for their packages. After Pygame 1.9.1
lands in experimental and is tested a bit to make sure nothing breaks,
we can upload it to unstable and then package 1.9.2 alpha for
experimental (or we could upload 1.9.1 directly into unstable, and
package 1.9.2 alpha for experimental). Does anybody have any other
suggestions?

Either way, I'm happy to do the actual packaging; I just need a DD to
upload my work for me.

Kind regards,
- Vincent Cheng

Bug#523834: ITP: naev -- 2D space trading combat game

2011-07-05 Thread Vincent Cheng
Hi,

Just a quick update on the current status of my Naev packaging...

Naev is mostly ready to be uploaded to the Debian archives, except for
the fact that the images currently can't all be rebuilt from source.
(My DD insists on being able to rebuild all the images in Naev's
source tree from scratch.) Problem with that is:

1) the source for many of those images reside in several different
Github repositories (more of a pain to package)
2) 2) some of those images require Blender, and upstream only has
Blender scripts compatible with 2.4, not the latest version (2.5) of
Blender in the archives, so all those scripts have to be rewritten

If anybody would like to help with this, I'd gladly appreciate it.

My current packaging can be found in the Debian Games svn repository
(mentors.d.n is a bit out-of-date):
$ svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/naev/

Bug#579102: Depends on non-main packages to compile

2011-08-10 Thread Vincent Cheng
2011/8/9 Aron Xu happyaron...@gmail.com:
Stay at current approach is the most reasonable way I can think of.

As Dererk said he had asked ftp-masters about the problem on this
personally, it would be fine to ask them reply to this bug if anyone
still want to ask the question. Our points on this issue are already
very clear so we need an agreement in the end, and I think there are no
better solutions than asking ftp-masters because it's them that decide
 what's ACCEPTED and what's not.

Vincent, do you think we need their answer? If yes, can you ask them to
 reply here?

 --
 Regards,
 Aron Xu

Well, I trust Dererk's word, so I'm not all that inclined to trouble
the ftp-masters again. Vincent, are you satisfied with Dererk's reply,
or would you like me to contact the ftp-masters regardless?

As for the issue of users with only main enabled in their sources.list
being left with a conky that's somewhat stripped of features
(conky-std), I plan to address this by enabling a few more common
features in conky-std (rather than adding another binary package); see
#579893 for details. Is that an acceptable solution for you?

Bug#579893: conky-all: add support for xmms2 and other players

2011-08-11 Thread Vincent Cheng
On Wed, Aug 10, 2011 at 10:55 PM, Aron Xu happyaron...@gmail.com wrote:
I think it depends on what additional dependencies will be pulled in
when adding the features. This requires a lot of testing, by building
the package with different settings again and again. If the dependency
is fine then there is no reason not to include the feature even if
they have relatively smaller user base.

With my proposed changes (I'll upload an updated version of conky asap
to expo.d.n), the only additional dependency for conky-std is
libimlib2 (+ the dependencies introduced by adding audacious and xmms2
support).

What's more, I'd like to suggest to change the names of conky
packages. The names, conky-std and conky-all, can lead users to think
the latter is greater. Since you are planning to enable more features
in the package for main, do you mind rename them to something like
conky-main and conky-contrib? Transitional package is needed.

Hmmm...conky-main and conky-contrib would make less sense to Ubuntu
users than the current conky-std and conky-all packages. I tend to
think that conky-all refers to conky with all features enabled, and
conky-std as conky with the standard feature set available, i.e.
similar to what you would end up with if you ran ./configure with no
other arguments (although I suppose conky-std is a bit different now,
with multiple additional features enabled). In that context, I'd
personally prefer the current naming scheme (but I'll remove the
recommendation in conky-all's package description to install that
package if the user is uncertain). I'm still open to discussion
though, and I'll gladly change the names of those packages if we can
come up with a set of names that makes sense for both Debian and
Ubuntu, and describe those packages better than the current names.

to worry about. But I'm not sure if it's ready for another RFS.

IIRC there were/are embedded library issues.

Now that enet is taken care of, I believe the only remaining embedded
library is libmozjs/spidermonkey.

Probably it also needs an audit to see if it complies with DFSG item 2
 along these guidelines:

 http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Games/Upstream#Source

I'll upload it to mentors.d.n later tonight or tomorrow if anyone
wants to take a second look at it.

Bug#594800: 0ad beta 6 packages

2011-08-14 Thread Vincent Cheng
I'll upload it to mentors.d.n later tonight or tomorrow if anyone
wants to take a second look at it.

Refreshed my 0ad package and uploaded it to mentors.d.n:

$ dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/0/0ad/0ad_0+r09786-1.dsc

I was about to upload my 0ad-data package as well, but for some reason
dput segfaulted halfway through, so for the moment I'll simply ask you
to download the data tarball directly from upstream:
http://releases.wildfiregames.com/0ad-r09786-alpha-unix-data.tar.xz

My actual packaging for 0ad-data (the stuff under debian/) can be fetched with:
$ svn co svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-games/packages/trunk/0ad-data/

I'll try again and re-upload 0ad-data to mentors tomorrow; sorry for
the inconvenience!

0ad and 0ad-data are both pbuilder clean, and the game runs fine, but
they aren't lintian clean (I'll work on fixing this later), and as
previously mentionned, there are issues with embedded libraries and
whatnot, so it probably can't be uploaded to the Debian archive in its
current state.

August since I will be travelling.

That sounds like a python bug. You might want to enable core dumps on
your system so that you can file bugs about random crashes.

 http://releases.wildfiregames.com/0ad-r09786-alpha-unix-data.tar.xz

The upstream tarball contains a pre-built copy of the DejaVu font,
please ask them to remove that. Likewise for the other font, that
should be packaged separately from 0ad using the upstream project. It
is perfectly acceptable for upstream to include pre-built fonts in
their binary installers/packages for platforms with broken/missing
repository/dependency systems but the source packages and VCS should
not include non-source forms and should not contain embedded copies of
 other projects.

 http://www.gust.org.pl/projects/e-foundry/tex-gyre/pagella

There doesn't appear be any suspicious metadata in the images.

A couple of the images are pre-rendered text. I wonder which font they
used and if it. IMO text should only be rendered at runtime since that
enables i18n and ensure that any fonts used on Debian systems are
 DFSG-free.

IMO the small versions of the icons should be removed and the scaling
should happen either at runtime or buildtime. I think it would be nice
to convert the images to vector so that the UI can scale to any
resolution. The buttons dir contains only small versions, so I wonder
if there is some source code missing there.

There is a ZIP file in there too. It seems a bit rediculous to put a
compressed file inside the already compressed tarball and even more
rediculous to put such a file in a VCS (didn't look if it was there
 too).

If I unpack the zip file I get a shitload of other stuff. I don't have
time to review the whole thing right now, but based on find | xargs
file there are some things that are not source code or not in
standard, modifiable formats, which is what the source package should
 consist of.

The font stuff inside it weird. IMO this should be replaced by vector
fonts rendered at runtime. There are other images with pre-rendered
text that possibly was rendered using non-free fonts.

Also the ./public/art/LICENSE.txt file indicates that all the
materials from CGTextures are missing their source form.

I find it completely bizarre that they are using an Excel spreadsheet
to store techtree info. Does the game really require a Excel file
 reading code??

Those xmb files look like binary versions of the corresponding xml
files. These should be generated at build time not stored in the
 source tarball or VCS.

There are some weird binary formats. One of them contained a string:
God Knows, perhaps that should be replaced with God Knows WTF these
files are and how to modify them ;)

I wonder about the DDS files. They can be opened in GIMP with gimp-dds
but their names seem to indicate that there are TGA files that are the
source form of them. IMO the DDS files should be created at
runtime/build time from their source TGA files, or the game should
simply switch to using the TGA files.

There are a bunch of pre-encoded Ogg files. I don't know what is the
source but Ogg definitely is not it. There should be some sort of
losslessly encoded audio or the project files for whatever DFSG-free
 program generated these files.

There are two RAR files. RAR is a proprietary format that is not yet
uncompressible only using software in Debian main. There is a free
software decompressor implementation but it is not yet in Debian
(#619602) and I haven't been able to compile it yet. Please ask
upstream to not store these in the source package and not in the VCS
 either.

Thanks for the review; cc'ing Philip so that he can take a look at
these issues and perhaps address them upstream. I believe the issues
with pre-rendered text were discussed previously in the discussion
following my first RFS posting, but most of these other issues you
bring up haven't been discussed yet and are definitely worth bringing
to upstream's attention.

Bug#579102: conky requires packages outside main for compilation

2011-09-02 Thread Vincent Cheng
Sorry for the delay in my reply; I've been caught up in the
back-to-school rush lately.

I'd like to propose my original solution [1] to bug #579102 when I
adopted conky, i.e. have two conky source packages (conky in main,
conky-all in contrib); src:conky would build conky-cli and
conky-std, both without Nvidia support, while src:conky-all would
build a binary conky-all package with Nvidia support, and thus be
placed in contrib. This would ensure that conky complies with Policy,
while not removing any features, and cater to both main and contrib
users.

Aron, please review and sponsor when you have time to do so:

$ dget http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/c/conky/conky_1.8.1-5.dsc
$ dget
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/contrib/c/conky-all/conky-all_1.8.1-5.dsc

Bug#640167: RFS: openssn

2011-09-03 Thread Vincent Cheng
Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package openssn.

 * Package name: openssn
   Version : 0.7-1
Upstream Author : Jesse Smith jessefrgsm...@yahoo.ca
 * URL : http://openssn.sourceforge.net/
 * License : GPL2 (code), CC0 (data)
   Section : games

Description: modern submarine tactical simulator
OpenSSN is a submarine simulation (subsim) which tries to emulate the
behaviour of modern submarines. The player is placed in command of a
submarine and is able to move about in a deep ocean environment.

It builds those binary packages (which are lintian and pbuilder clean):

 openssn- modern submarine tactical simulator
openssn-data - modern submarine tactical simulator (data)
openssn-dbg - modern submarine tactical simulator (debug)

To access further information about this package, please visit the
following URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/openssn

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/o/openssn/openssn_0.7-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards,

Vincent Cheng

Bug#639314: conky-cli: conky fails to run out-of-the-box with configuration errors

I assume this means that the default configuration is broken somehow.
It would probably be a good idea to ship a non-broken default config.

Conky already provides an additional config file
(/etc/conky/conky_no_x11.conf) to be used when Conky is compiled
without support for X.

$ conky -c /etc/conky/conky_no_x11.conf

conky-cli should use conky_no_x11.conf instead of the regular
conky.conf by default; however, I'm unsure whether or not conky can be
compiled to look for an alternative config file instead of the default
located at /etc/conky/conky.conf.
