Bug#254785: purging dhcp3-server gives an error
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I ran into this bug with woody: When you have dhcp3-server installed, and you purge it, the postrm script tries to remove a directory that has been removed already. Bug#288150: multipath-tools: initrd no longer works unless bu sybox is installed
multipath.dev script will change in the next release (0.4.2). It will not depend on /bin/sleep or busybox anymore, so it will hopefully close this bug. regards, cvaroqui -Message d'origine- De : Steve Langasek [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Envoyé : mercredi 12 janvier 2005 10:34 À : debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org Cc : Patrick Caulfield Objet : Bug#288150: multipath-tools: initrd no longer works unless busybox is installed # tagging this bug since it's specific to the version in unstable tags 288150 +sid thanks FWIW, a dependency on busybox is neither necessary nor sufficient here, because busybox will only be installed in the initrd by mkinitrd if BUSYBOX=yes is set in /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf. You can't edit that config file, so you'll need to cope with this limitation in your package. I think the best way to do this is precisely the one suggested by Paul in the bug log, which is to copy /bin/sleep into the initrd if it's not already installed there. Also, busybox+libs is smaller than /bin/sleep+libs, so it may make sense to Suggest: busybox and grab /bin/busybox instead of it's available and not already installed in the initrd. Depending on busybox is completely unnecessary for tools like mount, which obviously has to be present in the initrd anyway to mount the rootfs. I don't see any other tools being invoked that you'll have to install in the initrd yourself, but this bit in 01_udev could also lead to breakage: # # config files # if [ -d /etc/dev.d ] then cp -a /etc/dev.d $INITRDDIR/etc/ fi Since the files in this directory are shell scripts, they may have dependencies on arbitrary files not installed in the initrd. I'm not sure if these scripts fail gracefully, or how much they're actually needed in the initrd, but someone should probably verify this. Cheers, -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer

Bug#290009: r5rs-doc: unsatisfiable build dependencies in testing
Package: r5rs-doc Version: 20010328-6 Severity: serious The scm package will be removed from sarge shortly due to release-critical bugs that appear to be far from trivial to fix. Since r5rs-doc build-depends on scm, this means it will subsequently have unsatisfiable build-depends in testing and fail to build from source. Please find a way to transition r5rs-doc to a different scheme interpreter for its build dependencies (I'm not sure if this can be done without source changes to r5rs-doc -- I wasn't able to), or work with the scm maintainer to get that package back into a releasable state. As a result of this build-dependency, r5rs-doc will be removed from testing together with scm, and this bug will hold it back from re-entering testing until it can be resolved. Bug#289990: ACPI problems with kernels 2.6.x for Dell Inspiron 4100
severity 289990 normal thanks On Wed, 12 Jan 2005, Svante Signell wrote: Package: kernel-image-2.6.8-1-686 Version: 2.6.8-10 Severity: serious This problem was reported to debian-deval and debian-kernel in November last year already. The net effect of failure to allocate IRQ 7 for ALSA is that it fails to start. The problems can be overcome by adding append=pci=acpi or append=acpi=noirq to lilo.conf. But, as these are workarounds, the cause should be corrected. I'll file a bug report on this if noone have an immediate solution? The problems heve been found for at least kernels 2.6.8 and 2.6.9. Maybe the BIOS has to be upgraded and/or there is something wrong with the PCI routing tables. please try out 2.6.10 from unstable, it has lots of acpi updates. and post that dmesg.. thanks -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#289590: kernel-patch-2.4.27-hppa: FTBFS
tags 289590 confirmed thanks The hppa 2.4 tree has been unsync'd for ages now. What you are seeing here is a consequence of that and the fact that the Debian patchset has grown to be so big it's almost impossible to have a patch apply cleanly when diff'd from the kernel.org pristine kernel (as parisc-linux's kernel is). I have to think about a way to fix that. OTOH, I'll see if it's possible to drop hppa 2.4 kernel package in the short term, since everyone should really be using either cvs.parisc-linux.org 2.4 kernel or 2.6 debian package. Bug#290111: digikamplugins: FTBFS: Cannot find headers
package digikamplugins tags 290111 + pending stop thx Hi Daniel, thx for the report. That's an incomptibility with digikam 0.7 (and 0.7 obsoletes digikamplugins). when KDE 3.3 went into sarge and in it's tail digikam 0.7. Therefore digikam 0.6.*, the only user of digikamplugins, 'vanished'. We did not request to remove or conflict with digikamplugins yet, because it's successor kipi-plugin is still hanging in NEW queue (unfortunate circumsances (my fault) prevented kipi-plugins to enter sid before digikam 0.7 was uploaded. When kipi-plugins enters sid, we'll upload a new dummy digikamplugins pkgs that depends on kipi-plugins (just to smooth updates). Short before sarge release we'll then request the removal of digikamplugins. So bug will be closed with next digikamplugins upload - tags pending. Hope that's okay with you to 'not fix' the bug until kipi-plugins enters sid. I think uploading a empty fake digikamplugins with prio high until kipi-plugins enters sarge is overkill. Bug#288150: multipath-tools: initrd script breaks booting lvm root
Package: multipath-tools Version: 0.4.1-1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Tags: patch If multipath-tools-0.4.1-1 is installed, the initrd generated by initrd-tools-0.1.76 is non-bootable for systems using an LVM root device. Symptoms: pivot_root: no such file or directory; sbin/init not found; panic: attempting to kill init. The cause: multipath adds a script /etc/mkinitrd/scripts/01_udev; this mounts a new /dev and lets udevstart run on it. This happens after /script is executed, which is where the LVM command vgchange -a y vg0 is executed to create LVM devices. Unfortunately, udevstart has no way of creating the /dev/mapper nodes required by LVM, so the root device /dev/mapper/vg0 stays missing. One possible fix would be not to mount an empty /dev in 01_udev, so that the LVM devices remain visible. However, mounting a new /dev protects against a possible read-only prior /dev, and the prior /dev is indeed read-only. (it is part of the initrd image and contains some symlinks to ../devfs) So the attached patch instead copies the contents of the old /dev to the new /dev. It's possible that a similar problem would occur for other virtual devices such as MD; these too are not created by hotplugging but by an init.d script. I have not tested this, but the patch should cover such cases. The patch was tested on a PC with LVM devices on a SATA disk but no actual multipath devices: I only installed multipath-tools to take a look at the documentation ... I'm including #288150 (initrd no longer works unless busybox is installed) on the Cc list. That report mentions /bin/sleep missing from initrd image. The missing sleep is still missing after attached patch, but it does not seem to harm anything. No claim that this patchs solves #288150, but the symptoms seem similar enough to justify a cross reference. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-1-686 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages multipath-tools depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0]1.4.41 Debian configuration management sy ii hotplug 0.0.20040329-16 Linux Hotplug Scripts ii initscripts 2.86.ds1-1 Standard scripts needed for bootin ii libc62.3.2.ds1-20GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libdevmapper1.00 2:1.00.20-1 The Linux Kernel Device Mapper use ii libsysfs11.1.0-1 Interface library to sysfs ii makedev 2.3.1-75Creates device files in /dev ii udev 0.050-4 /dev/ management daemon -- no debconf information --- 01_udev.org 2005-01-12 10:57:58.0 +0100 +++ 01_udev.works 2005-01-12 22:51:22.0 +0100 @@ -4,8 +4,9 @@ cp /sbin/udevstart $INITRDDIR/sbin/ cp /bin/mountpoint $INITRDDIR/bin/ cp /bin/readlink $INITRDDIR/bin/ +cp /bin/cp $INITRDDIR/bin/ -PROGS=/sbin/udev /sbin/udevstart /bin/mountpoint /bin/readlink +PROGS=/sbin/udev /sbin/udevstart /bin/mountpoint /bin/readlink /bin/cp LIBS=`ldd $PROGS | grep -v linux-gate.so | sort -u | \ awk '{print $3}'` for i in $LIBS @@ -33,10 +34,15 @@ cat EOF | $INITRDDIR/scripts/10_udev.sh cd / +mount -n --bind /dev /mnt mount -nt proc proc proc mount -nt sysfs sysfs sys mount -nt tmpfs tmpfs dev || mount -nt ramfs ramfs dev mount -nt tmpfs tmpfs tmp || mount -nt ramfs ramfs tmp +# preserve old /dev contents, since udev does not make +# eg LVM nodes. +cp -a /mnt/* /dev +umount -n /mnt #modprobe dm-mod #modprobe dm-multipath -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#289750: widelands-data contains non-free font Knights.ttf
Ups, sorry I should have checked myself, I guess. I discussed this issue with upstream, and they removed the file from their CVS right away. I'll do the same for the package soonish. Thanks for your help, Mt. On Mon, Jan 10, 2005 at 11:47:12AM -0800, Josh Triplett wrote: Package: widelands-data Version: build8-2 Severity: serious widelands-data contains the font file Knights.ttf, containing the font KnightsTemplar. strings Knights.ttf reveals that the font is by Iconian Fonts, for which Googling leads to http://www.iconian.com/ . The front page of that site says: All fonts are e-mailware, meaning the fonts are distributed for free personal use and for use by charities or non-profit organizations (as these are generally, to me, noncommercial uses). Feel free to contact me if you would like to use any of the fonts for commercial purposes. I do ask that if you like any of my fonts, you please let me know by e-mailing me at [EMAIL PROTECTED], hence the name e-mailware. These fonts may be freely distributed and may be included on any free font archive site so long as the readme text file is not removed from the ZIP file. If you have more questions, try the FAQ. This does not satisfy the DFSG, as it requires contacting the author, and restricts types of use. This font should be removed from the widelands-data package as soon as possible, and replaced with some Free font. In the meantime, I'll try contacting the font designer, and see if they would be willing to permit use of that font under the GPL. - Josh Triplett signature.asc Description: Digital signature
