Bug#296079: rename ipsec.conf to spd.boot
I suggest to name that file spd.boot . It would better describe what's inside. And by the way, there may be more spd.* files. For example, one to [change and] use when ppp connection is established. -- Aidas Kasparas IT administrator GM Consult Group, UAB -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I installed Debian/Sarge's version 1.1.1 of openoffice. While doing backups I found: /home/xxx/.openoffice/1.1.1/THIRDPARTYLICENSEREADME.html which contains the full Microsoft EULA: (see clip below) As the license itself says: it is IMPORTANT. Please recall what IMPORTING something to ones conscience mind means. And I don't mind saying I'm angry that some yoohoo slipped that damned license on my system. However: I do have a rights to use it. I'm licensed to use a MS product meantioned and I paid for my copy of Solaris and StarOffice. No. My concern is the harm that can come to Debian - which is the largest and best compilation of truely clean of license linux. /// IF YOU AREN'T YET MAKING PHONE CALLS: I don't know if you europeans understand what that license means in U.S. language: it means they have rights to access all of your personal work on your computer systems and have your ass in any courtroom situation simply because their libraries are on your system - even if you infact didn't know they were there (because you negleged to look for the license). If any codes of Microsoft (including fonts or save formats) that the license referers to are in any part of any of your work: it is not your work ! until such time as you remove Microsoft's binaries (without looking at them, of course). Infact. Using Microsoft software you have no right to copyright or share the entirety of your work UNTIL IT IS PRINTED. That is, until it contains no Microsoft binaries of any form. And of COURSE: if you don't have license to use one of the meantioned products: they can sue you. And of COURSE: they can sue you for distributing anything containing the license indescriminantly. That is in fact what that license says specifically. That is how it would be treated. The President is from Texas (so gov workers now get Dell laptops). No coincidence: beleive me. Microsoft has their own judges and does an excellent job of lobbying our Congress. I feel quite confident that the double talk allowed in a case would be immense and favorative of Microsoft: If you don't know what double talk is and how it effects the reality of purpose you had best not even think of having a copy of the MS EULA anywhere on your HD. /// IF YOU AREN'T YET MAKING PHONE CALLS: Did you read that news article in the Washington Post about Sony
Bug#295998: php4-cli: Segfault with send_reminders from the webcal project
Package: php4-cli Version: 4:4.3.10-2 Followup-For: Bug #295998 I have two different installations of webcalender on my server. One w/ MySQL, and the other with PgSQL. When the file $CALENDAR/tools/send_reminders.php is run, the php process segfaults. If I run the send_reminders script on the PgSQL installation with extension=pgsql.so commented out, I'll receive $ ./send_reminders.php Fatal error: Call to undefined function: pg_pconnect() in /home/eshornoc/public_html/cal/includes/php-dbi.php on line 152 With it uncommented, I get the segfault. The same thing happens with the MySQL webcalendar installation as well. Reverting back to 4.3.10-2, all is well. Bug#296097: missing modules in ppp-modules
Package: ppp-modules-2.4.27-2-386-di Version: 1.03 Severity: grave Tags: d-i I have successfully installed Debian using only 3 floppies (boot, root, custom) and PPP connection over null-modem (no CD or Ethernet). I've used ppp-modules and statically compiled pppd. Unfortunately, ppp-modules doesn't have all needed modules. The modules that must be added to it are the following: slhc.o ppp_async.o zlib_deflate.o (for ppp-deflate.o that is already in ppp-modules) Without these, ppp-modules can't be used in debian-installer, so I mark this bug as grave. I guess that these need just to be added to packages/kernel/kernel-wedge/modules/ppp-modules I've noticed that packages/kernel/linux-kernel-di-{ia64,m68k{,-2.6}}/modules/ARCH/ppp-modules contain their own list of these modules -- I don't know if it should be fixed along with this bug. Bug#296130: libdc0: versioned conflicts on dcgui-qt renders it uninstallable
Package: libdc0 Version: 0.3.2-1 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 7.3 A Conflicts entry should almost never have an earlier than version clause. This would prevent dpkg from upgrading or installing the package which declared such a conflict until the upgrade or removal of the conflicted-with package had been completed. Package: libdc0 Version: 0.3.7-1 Conflicts: dcgui-qt ( 0.3.3) Package: dcgui-qt Version: 0.3.2-2 Depends: ... libdc0 (= 0.3.1) ... It is now impossible to install dcgui-qt because it depends on libdc0, which in turn conflicts with it. Policy states that versioned conflicts with less than clauses are horribly broken - dpkg will not be able to upgrade libdc0 and dcgui-qt in the same run, because dcgui-qt will need to be FULLY UNINSTALLED (as is the definition of Conflicts) before libdc0 can be upgraded, so you will need to invoke dpkg once to remove dcgui-qt, and then again to install libdc0 and upgrade dcgui-qt. If the reason for adding this conflict is that libdc0 has broken binary compatibility, then the shlibs file of libdc-dev should make the resultant libdc0 dependency more version-specific. This is not the correct way to deal with breaking ABIs. Bug#295884: cdbs: Changes control file to add new build dependency.
severity 295884 normal thanks The new version seems to change the control to add patchutils to the dependency list (when there is a control.in file). This is an optional feature. Your package requested it by setting the DEB_AUTO_UPDATE_DEBIAN_CONTROL variable. If you don't want that feature, you don't have to use it. The weak dependency on patchutils is added by simple-patchsys.mk for performing sanity checks in the patchset. This causes problem for package that were generated using and old version of cdbs and are now build with the new version. This shouldn't happen. Could you provide an example? -- .''`. Bug#296144: putty: 0.57 released upstream, fixes pscp/psftp security holes
Package: putty Version: 0.56-1 Severity: grave Tags: security There's a new upstream release of PuTTY, 0.57, which fixes vulnerabilities in `pscp' and `psftp'. The changes are minimal, so it should be OK whatever state of frozenness the package is currently in (provided it builds on all architectures). It also fixes a couple of trivial bugs, but I don't think it closes any open Debian bugs (other than this one). The release announcement is attached. ---BeginMessage--- SECURITY UPDATE: PuTTY version 0.57 is released --- All the pre-built binaries, and the source code, are now available from the PuTTY website at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ This is a SECURITY UPDATE. We recommend that _everybody_ upgrade, as soon as possible. This version fixes a security hole in previous versions of PuTTY, which can allow a malicious SFTP server to attack your client. If you use either PSCP or PSFTP, you should upgrade. Users of the main PuTTY program are not affected. (However, note that the server must have passed host key verification before this attack can be launched, so a man-in-the-middle shouldn't be able to attack you if you're careful.) This vulnerability was found by iDEFENSE, who we expect to release an advisory on the subject shortly. In addition to this security patch, there are also a few very minor bug fixes which should stop PuTTY from crashing in circumstances involving port forwarding, or failing to correctly perform X forwarding. Other than that, though, 0.57 is almost identical to the previous release 0.56. I repeat: PuTTY 0.57 fixes a SERIOUS SECURITY HOLE in many previous versions of PSCP and PSFTP. If you use either of those programs, you should upgrade now. Enjoy using PuTTY! Cheers, Simon -- Simon Tatham The distinction between the enlightened and the [EMAIL PROTECTED]terminally confused is only apparent to the latter. ---End Message---

Bug#289838: Working on it
Hi, I am not a PostgreSQL specialist, but to become a DD I have been asked to send patches to fix some RC bugs, so... Anyway, I am currently working on these issues, and I have managed to get this package installed correctly, and the database created. It would need a few more tests, but is looks like the modifications to the postinst script might close #272191 as well. This patch also adds support for deleting the database if the DB server is on localhost. If someone could test this patch and give a report on it, it would be nice. J.L., as I am working the scripts for this package, would you like me to continue and try to add support for remote database servers ? The changes are minimal, so it should be OK whatever state of frozenness the package is currently in (provided it builds on all architectures). It also fixes a couple of trivial bugs, but I don't think it closes any open Debian bugs (other than this one). The release announcement is attached. --GZVR6ND4mMseVXL/ Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=putty-0.57-release From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Simon Tatham) Date: Sun Feb 20 16:05:41 2005 Subject: SECURITY UPDATE: PuTTY version 0.57 is released Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] SECURITY UPDATE: PuTTY version 0.57 is released --- All the pre-built binaries, and the source code, are now available from the PuTTY website at http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/ This is a SECURITY UPDATE. --GZVR6ND4mMseVXL/-- --- Received: (at 296144-close) by bugs.debian.org; 20 Feb 2005 23:23:02 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Feb 20 15:23:02 2005 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from newraff.debian.org [208.185.25.31] (mail) by spohr.debian.org with esmtp (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1D30Pm-0003RW-00; Sun, 20 Feb 2005 15:23:02 -0800 Received: from katie by newraff.debian.org with local (Exim 3.35 1 (Debian)) id 1D30KY-0005Rz-00; Sun, 20 Feb 2005 18:17:38 -0500 From: Colin Watson [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.55 $ Subject: Bug#296144: fixed in putty 0.57-1 Message-Id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender: Archive Administrator [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sun, 20 Feb 2005 18:17:38

Bug#296201: mount: unprivileged user can mount partition without updating mtab
Package: mount Version: 2.12p-2 Severity: grave Justification: user security hole If a non-root user mounts media (in my case, a CD-ROM), and attempts to kill the process (in my case, a mad combination of ^C and ^\), the filesystem can be mounted, yet not appear in /etc/mtab. This means that when the user does a df, it does not show up, and when they try to unmount it (unless they are root), they are denied, told that the filesystem is not mounted according to /etc/mtab. This introduces two security holes: 1) A malicious user could lock-up removable media for anybody else that wishes to use the system; or 2) A user is told that data is not available which actually is, which could mislead them into leaving it there for others to access. .. and, of course, in the case of cd-rom's which are usually locked while moutned, a user without root access or access to the person with root access can't get his/her CD rom back (without sticking a needle in the little hole, but we don't want them to do that, do we?) - Tyler -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.7-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_CA, LC_CTYPE=en_CA (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages mount depends on: ii libblkid1 1.36release-1 block device id library ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libuuid1 1.36release-1 universally unique id library -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#296209: gnome-icon-theme: New postint script - gtk-update-icon-cache problems, results in 'blank' icons!
Package: gnome-icon-theme Version: 2.8.0-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Upgrading from 2.8.0-1 results in all the icons in Nautilus turning to the default 'blank page' icon, most of the icons in Evolution for email and folders turn into red X crosses, and the show desktop icon in the panel going to a red X cross as well. Going back to the 2.8.0-1 version of the packkage fixed the problem for me. Please fix this! Bug#295350: imlib2 misbuilds
The patch provided fails. Search for no X support found in http://people.debian.org/~ljlane/stuff/295350-B0.bz2 if you want to see the details. Using this line from the imlib2 changelog causes a different configure failure: AC_PATH_X([X11],[X11/Xlib.h],[XrmInitialize()] Using plain AC_PATH_XTRA_CORRECTED works fine here. It's a Debian hack, but so is the AC_PATH_X macro that accepts arguments. And this is all simply academic to me because Bug#295175 that exposed the imlib2 configure bugginess has been corrected. Rebuilding imlib2 as is will stop a lot of bug reports and frustration. But it's not my call, so I digress. Figure out how you want it fixed and I'll upload it. Or just NMU it. I really don't care about the how, just that it gets fixed. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

In my opinion no dependency is required since libaspell15 already Recommends it. I believe this is a more appropriate relationship since aspell dictionaries tend to be rather large and it's usually not strictly necessary to have a dictionary installed (if the user never uses the spell-check feature). In addition, I'm renaming aspell-dictionary to aspell6-dictionary as part of the transition to Aspell 0.60. So, at the very least, you should change the dependency to aspell6-dictionary when I upload Aspell 0.60. Bug#294499: swig1.3: ftbfs [sparc] too few arguments to function `zend_rsrc_list_get_rsrc_type'

They are gone (replaced) in swig 1.3.24 which is already packaged but I am waiting for dependent packages to repair the no-runtime-anymore breakage. Should be a non-issue mid of next week. Actually, the same problem is still present in PHP wrapper code generated by SWIG, so I suspect this will move from a FTBFS for SWIG to a FTBFS for any package which use SWIG to generate PHP bindings. This problem has been there all along. The reason we're only now seeing it is that the Debian php4 package recently enabled thread safety in Zend: php4 (4:4.3.10-3) unstable; urgency=medium [snip] * Enable Zend Thread Safety for all SAPIs, meaning that our modules are now compiled for ZTS APIs as well. (closes: #278212, #264015) - Make sure caudium-php4 now provides phpapi-$(ver), and modules can be configured with the caudium SAPI. - Add 039-reentrant_libs.patch to link to the reentrant versions of libldap and libmysqlclient [snip] -- Adam Conrad [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun, 6 Feb 2005 05:32:11 -0700 I've attached a patch which fixes this. When thread safety is enabled, zend_rsrc_list_get_rsrc_type now expects more than one argument, and there's some standard macro magic to deal with this. It's used throughout the patched file - it's just missing in this one call (when thread safety is off, TSRMLS_CC is empty, which is why it's worked up until now).
