It is not a bug of the postinst script that it assumes this file is already installed on the system; see http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase The only scenarios I can think of in which this type of problem occurs are ones that involve either a bug in dpkg or something on the system interfering with files owned by the package management system (deliberately or accidentally e.g. through filesystem corruption). These are not scenarios that a regular package's postinst script needs to take into account. I have tagged this report accordingly. If you can provide us with a scenario with which to reproduce this problem which doesn't have these characteristics, please let us know. Package: hmake Version: 3.09-3 Severity: grave Hi, Your package currently can't be installed in sid because it still depeneds on libgmp3 and that has been renamed to libgmp3c3 because of the C++ ABI transition. In any case, X barely loads, while GNOME gets stuck at its splash screen; meanwhile, a few command line tools work on the virtual console as expected, others don't. I would also like to point out that according to Debian Policy, software that has the potential to render a system unusable must have a priority of extra, not optional. Basically, this package should not have been allowed into unstable and is already of questionable use for Debian at this point, given Debian's extremely limitted LSB support. As such, I demand that it be immediately removed from the archive; if it ever gets reintroduced, it should first go to and be thoroughly tested via experimental. Thanks! PS: this being said, if and when Debian achieves LSB compliance, this package might eventually be safe and even usefull, but this is definitely not the case now, so it must be removed right away. - -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers stable APT policy: (990, 'stable'), (500, 'testing'), (99, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.18-newpmac Locale: LANG=fi_FI.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fi_FI.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages insserv depends on: ii libc6 2.3.5-3GNU C Library: Shared libraries an insserv recommends no packages. - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFDFOWGeXr56x4Muc0RAnblAJ9moh4Ju/lLWhRs1pX9nKtUwPKaFQCgoutV UzjQqxyPB/7lb6cWInbvo/M= =WiEy -END PGP SIGNATURE- --- Received: (at 325798-close) by bugs.debian.org; 24 Sep 2005 13:08:21 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 24 06:08:21 2005 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from katie by spohr.debian.org with local (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1EJ9fH-0002VH-00; Sat, 24 Sep 2005 06:02:03 -0700 From: Petter Reinholdtsen [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.56 $ Subject: Bug#325798: fixed in insserv 1.02.0-1 Message-Id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender: Archive Administrator [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sat, 24 Sep 2005 06:02:03 -0700 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02

Bug#329929: gucharmap: postinst blows away system immodules configuration
Package: gucharmap Version: 1:1.4.3-2 Severity: serious Justification: Replaces conffile from another package, wiping any customisation The postinst contains this line: # Hopefully GTK+ upstream will do something about this sillyness gtk-query-immodules-2.0 /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules This is rather rude. Wiping out a conffile from another package is not nice. Why is gucharmap doing this? It's no different from any other GTK+ application WRT immodules, and certainly has no business doing this. Seems that the list is not possible to get into working order by normal means, but as soon as I get that latest version changed to working one, I'll try another install and watch processes at that time. // Copied /usr/lib/GConf/1 directory as /2 Why do people keep doing such stupid things? Because couple of days ago, for another package, I fixed same kind of problem with same type of action. After I get this dpkg problem fixed and old versions running, I'll remove that directory, will see if upgrade works any better. Yep, this time I'll try to update them one after another.

Bug#329239: segfaults? cached headers from previous version?
In my case after upgrade I couldm't start up mutt-ng Which version did you tried? It would be very helpfull to know wether http://www.lxtec.de/debarchiv/binary-i386/mutt-ng/mutt-ng_0.0+20050920-1_i386.deb helps or not. My installed version is 0.0+20050831-1. Judging from the mailed changelog I've upgraded from the one before 0.0+20050629-1 But the thing is that as I've reported: I had to remove cache files left from the previous version to have freshly installed one run. That is why at the moment I don't have that cache any more -- it was regenerated by the freshly installed one and it works fine. That is why I can't check if the version you've mentioned helps to resolve the original problem sorry P.S. it seems that there were 3 bugs filed for the same problem and only 1 was closed... -- .-. =-- /v\ = Keep in touch// \\ (yoh@|www.)onerussian.com Yaroslav Halchenko /( )\ ICQ#: 60653192 Linux User^^-^^[17] pgpY4ZOGfubQu.pgp Description: PGP signature

This is introduced somewhere between 2.10.1-2 and 2.10.1-5. This caused some problems on my system while upgrading libgsf-gnome-1: No such file `/usr/lib/GConf/2/libgconfbackend-xml.so' Failed to load source xml::/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults: Failed: Cou= ldn't locate backend module for `xml::/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults' GConf-ERROR **: file gconftool.c: line 828 (main): assertion failed: (e= rr =3D=3D NULL) aborting... /var/lib/dpkg/info/libgsf-gnome-1.postinst: line 7: 10614 Aborted = HOME=3D/root GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE=3D`gconftool-2 --get-default-so= urce` gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule $SCHEMA_LOCATION/$SCHEMA /dev/nu= ll dpkg: error processing libgsf-gnome-1 (--configure): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 134 This caused libgsf-gnome-1 to fail installing, which rendered a lot of gnome applications unusable, since they could not load their configuration from gconf. Looking at the package contents, gconf2 version 2.10.1-2 contains /usr/lib/GConf/2/libgconfbackend-xml.so which are nowhere in any of the gconf2 packages of 2.10.1-5. However, libgconf2-4 version 2.10.1-5 contains=20 /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/2/libgconfbackend-xml.so I created a symlink /usr/lib/GConf/2 - /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/2/ which allowed me to upgrade libgsf-gnome-1. Perhaps this symlink should be in one of the gconf2 packages? After upgrading libgsf-gnome-1, that package can be reinstalled again without the symlink present, so this problem may be already be resolved. Perhaps it can still create problems while upgrading though (i.e. etch - sid at the moment)? If non of the above is still considered a problem, this report might be helpful for anyone with a similar upgrade-problem. For the record, I was upgrading libgsf-gnome-1 as follows: 2005-09-15 22:20:22 upgrade libgsf-1 1.12.2-1 1.12.3-3 according my dpkg.log. Bug#329358: [bug #14619] find -perm +... broken in 4.2.25
Follow-up Comment #1, bug #14619 (project findutils): Hello, Afaict almost any usage of -perm +'symbolic mode' is broken in .25. (Checked e.g. u+x g=w u+w,g+r). Contrary to my initial claim 4.2.(21-24) is _not_ ok, though, -perm +smbolic mode has lots of false positives, e.g -perm +u+x matches 455, 472, 621 and 417. (Afaict it matches everything with _any_ execute bit set.) cu andreas ___ Reply to this item at: http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitemitem_id=14619 ___ Nachricht geschickt von/durch Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#329239: segfaults? cached headers from previous version?
On Sat, 24 Sep 2005 the mental interface of Yaroslav Halchenko told: In my case after upgrade I couldm't start up mutt-ng Which version did you tried? It would be very helpfull to know wether http://www.lxtec.de/debarchiv/binary-i386/mutt-ng/mutt-ng_0.0+20050920-1_i386.deb helps or not. My installed version is 0.0+20050831-1. Judging from the mailed changelog I've upgraded from the one before 0.0+20050629-1 ^^ This is a known issue. Reading UPGRADING will lighten you: ... 2005-07-28: Because of reverting a (overly eager) mutt-ng-specific issue with header caching, starting with revision 362, all caches must be removed and rebuild again. Bug#329881: bgoffice: ftbfs [sparc] /bin/sh: line 1: 21600 Bus error
clone 329881 -1 reassign -1 aspell retitle -1 aspell munch-list fails on some architectures severity -1 normal submitter -1 [EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks Since this aspell munch-list command is quiet CPU+memory intensive for the sake of the autobuilders I am going to fix this bug by including precompiled dictionary hash in the souce package (as the other aspell-* packages do). However there is still some bug in aspell so I have created a small package to reproduce the bug. Get it from http://lml.bas.bg/~anton/misc/aspell-munch-bug.tar.bz2 Run the command ./command in it. Notice that although it refers to the locale bg_BG it is not important to have this locale compiled in the system. I am reassigning a clone of this bug to aspell. However I have not been able to reproduce it using the prepared small package because I don't have access to non-i386 machine. Acording to buildd logs the bug manifests on the following platforms: arm, hppa, ia64, mipsel, powerpc, s390 and sparc. As part of the C++ ABI transition, this library has moved to the libqt3-mt package. Simply recompiling and uploading your package should be enough to fix this; as per this mail [1], you need not bump your Qt, kdelibs or aRts build-dependencies. Beware, though, that that may not be the case for all the involved librares. Also, make sure that you build the package in an up to date and clean sid environment, so that final dependencies are correct. Please do this as soon as possible in order to accelerate the Qt/KDE transition to testing. [1] http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2005/09/msg0.html Perhaps you find that your package fails to compile with gcc4. If that's the case, there's probably a bug about it in the BTS, and it may include a patch. If not (or if you have doubts about the correctness of the patch), you may be able to find a fix in upstream's CVS, or in the Ubuntu distribution. If your package fails only in arm, m68k, and hppa, see instructions in the above mail. Finally, if there's a strong reason for which your package should not be NMUed, please note so in this bug report. Prospective NMUers will read your reasoning, and will decide if it's strong enough to delay their upload. Thanks for your cooperation, and happy hacking! P.S.: There may be an already reported bug against this package for this very same reason. I've checked for that, and will be merging the bugs soon. The reason for still filing this bug was to have the opportunity of including the small bits of information above. I apologize for the inconvenience. --- Received: (at 327937-close) by bugs.debian.org; 24 Sep 2005 20:52:18 + From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Sep 24 13:52:18 2005 Return-path: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Received: from katie by spohr.debian.org with local (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1EJGvv-0002lt-00; Sat, 24 Sep 2005 13:47:43 -0700 From: Mark Hymers [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.56 $ Subject: Bug#327937: fixed in ifrit 2.9.3-2 Message-Id: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sender: Archive Administrator [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Sat, 24 Sep 2005 13:47:43 -0700 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 Source: ifrit Source-Version: 2.9.3-2 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of ifrit, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: ifrit_2.9.3-2.diff.gz to pool/main/i/ifrit/ifrit_2.9.3-2.diff.gz ifrit_2.9.3-2.dsc to pool/main/i/ifrit/ifrit_2.9.3-2.dsc ifrit_2.9.3-2_i386.deb to pool/main/i/ifrit/ifrit_2.9.3-2_i386.deb A summary of the changes

Bug#329888: [parisc-linux] binutils breaks hppa kernel build,
binutils-2.15 has this in include/opcodes/hppa.h: { fdc,0x04001280, 0xfc003fdf, cZx(s,b), pa10, 0}, { fdc,0x04001280, 0xfc003fdf, cZx(b), pa10, 0}, { fic,0x04000280, 0xfc001fdf, cZx(S,b), pa10, 0}, { fic,0x04000280, 0xfc001fdf, cZx(b), pa10, 0}, The last fic opcode entry is wrong. It's using the wrong instruction format, the mask is wrong, pa10 is wrong, etc. And the binutils_2.16.1cvs20050902 version has only: { fdc,0x04001280, 0xfc00ffdf, cZx(b), pa10, 0}, { fdc,0x04001280, 0xfc003fdf, cZx(s,b), pa10, 0}, { fic,0x04000280, 0xfc001fdf, cZx(S,b), pa10, 0}, Yes, I deleted the entry because there isn't implicit space register selection for 'S' instructions. The order of the with 's' vs without 's' was switched and in the process dropped one fic line. Changing the order of with 's' vs without 's' was intentional. It generates better disassembly. Give the new objdump a try and you will see the difference. Can binutils maintainer/folks please just add it back in the new location? We need a new pa20 format 24 entry. Is the fix obvious enough or is a patch necessary? A patch is needed. Dave -- J. I suspect we've been silently emitting bad code up until this point, and given that it's in flush_kernel_icache_page, maybe it explains some of our occasional crashes. The code was previously: fic,m %r23(%r26) We're trying to flush kernel space at this point, so we can use any of sr4-sr7. I suspect before we were putting sr0 in, which could have been flushing any random space instead of the one we wanted. Bug#329888: [parisc-linux] binutils breaks hppa kernel build,
binutils-2.15 has this in include/opcodes/hppa.h: { fdc,0x04001280, 0xfc003fdf, cZx(s,b), pa10, 0}, { fdc,0x04001280, 0xfc003fdf, cZx(b), pa10, 0}, { fic,0x04000280, 0xfc001fdf, cZx(S,b), pa10, 0}, { fic,0x04000280, 0xfc001fdf, cZx(b), pa10, 0}, The last fic opcode entry is wrong. It's using the wrong instruction format, the mask is wrong, pa10 is wrong, etc. The enclosed patch against binutils head adds the missing fic entry. I also noticed that we were missing a pa20 im5 variant for fdc. This builds and checks with no regressions. However, the new entries aren't really tested. Dave -- J. Bug#329994: base-installer: lilo-installer fails because vmlinuz symlink is not in /
Package: base-installer Version: 1.24 Severity: serious In commit r29833 the value of link_in_boot was changed from false to true for i386 and amd64. This change make lilo-installer fail as lilo.conf is configured to expect symlinks for the kernel and initrd in / (if boot is not a separate partition). The changelog entry for this change (release 1.24) is: * Turn link_in_boot on for both i386 and amd64. They should be the same, and Kamion points out turning it off for amd64 is a regression. pgpEN5cdOh6ci.pgp Description: PGP signature
