Python's built-in hash() function is not guaranteed to return the same value over invocations or on different platforms. It just guarantees that hash(x) == hash(y) if x == y. So I'll look into replacing this test with something more portable. In the meantime, anyone wishing to build albatross on amd64 can replace that value in the test, or disable testing completely as a workaround. Using the recommended implementation of python-support again generates no python dependencies to be included in the Depends line. Even though the changelog for 0.5.3 says: * dh_pysupport: always generate dependencies. it also doesn't generate the correct dependencies Interestingly, the control file for my package (bittornado) is for 2 binary packages, bittornado and bittornado-gui. The ${python:Depends} for the first gets replaced with python-support (= 0.2) which leads to the error, while the second gets python. This seems strange too, as I think both should be getting python, python-support (= 0.2), but maybe because the second depends on the first it doens't include the python-support depend for that one. I'll try to attach my control file to see if that helps explain it. oh and for that part: bittornado-gui only provides scripts, and has no modules, so python-support does nothing with that, you only need to add 'python' to the depends, because those binaries uses #! /usr/bin/python. (and here you *have* $need_python set to 1, see other mail with the patch) bittornado comes with modules, and needs python-support. Though it does not get python yet because of a regression. So again, there is nothing serions, depends are correct, just a bit weak. I felt the severity was justified, as dh_python is now deprecated in debhelper, so for users of python-support this is the only way to specify the python dependencies. Bug#391758: Upgrade path for plone 2.1 - 2.5
severity 391758 important thanks Hi, first of all, let's downgrade the severity of the bug report: plone 2.1 is not part of a stable release: sarge includes plone 2.0.4 which is not managed by dzhandle, so it is not affected by this issue. Anyway, this affaire could be problematic for etch+1 so it surely needs attention. I'll deeply test the upgrade path from 2.1 to 2.5 in the next days, as well as a bunch of other changes for zope-common I'd like to do before the general freeze. One thing which I would need is a good testing of upgrades.. are you available for a few test upgrades in the next days if I hand you the new packages before the uploads? Obviously, this testing request is open for everybody so contact me by email if you have some spare time and you're willing to help. Hi! The problem is located at /usr/share/slash/sql/mysql/schema.sql -- there is a create statement which is a little bit strange: CREATE TABLE moderatorlog ( id int UNSIGNED NOT NULL auto_increment, uid mediumint UNSIGNED NOT NULL, val tinyint DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL, sid mediumint UNSIGNED DEFAULT '' NOT NULL, ^ ^^^ ts datetime DEFAULT '-00-00 00:00:00' NOT NULL, cid mediumint UNSIGNED NOT NULL, cuid mediumint UNSIGNED NOT NULL, reason tinyint UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0', active tinyint DEFAULT '1' NOT NULL, m2count mediumint UNSIGNED DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (id), KEY sid (sid, cid), KEY sid_2 (sid, uid, cid), KEY cid (cid) ) TYPE = myisam; I'm not sure, if we just can set the default to 0 or if it's better to remove the NOT NULL and make NULL the default. Bug#391586: additional information available
There is new information about this bug available and it looks even more serious than before now. See Hardened-PHP Project security advisory at http://www.hardened-php.net/advisory_092006.133.html Affected: PHP 5 = 5.1.6, PHP 4 4.3.0 The bug can be triggered when user input is passed to the unserialzie() function, e.g. via a cookie. The Hardened-PHP Project will release a proof of concept exploit for this vulnerability after the release of PHP 5.2.0 has happened and a few weeks have passed.

Bug#293556: Similar problems
severity 293556 important thanks * martin f krafft ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [060811 07:03]: GPG has failed me on numerous occasions in the past week. Usually, I'd find ~/.gnupg/pubring.pgp.tmp next to a zero-sized ~/.gnupg/pubring.pgp, and the damage would be easily solved. Today it started to truncate the file: -rw--- 1 madduck madduck 3725 2006-08-11 14:53 pubring.gpg -rw--- 1 madduck madduck 0 2006-08-11 14:53 pubring.gpg~ I also have backups, and it's arguable whether the pubring is data that needs to be guarded (I'd say YES), but this is clearly not acceptable. I don't want to say everything is nice (and please feel free to continue working on this bug), but I don't think this bug is release-critical aka we need to fix it prior to release. So, setting severity back to important (aka this is an ugly bug and should be fixed). Bug#391908: openoffice.org: Document is opened read-only but should be rw.
Package: openoffice.org Version: 2.0.4~rc3-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable When I open a document that should be writable, the document is opened read-only (the title-bar shows this and I can't make changes). I can, however, create and modify files in that same directory using touch and vi. This really is odd and very uncomfortable. This system is mostly testing and a few packages from unstable (for example the kernel). OOo is from testing and apparently 2.0.4~rc3 was added last night. There's no output on the console where I started soffice. Bug#391911: openoffice.org: OOo freezes when closing a document.
Package: openoffice.org Version: 2.0.4~rc3-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable When I close a read-only document, OOo simply freezes. The window is no longer updated. I don't know why the document is readonly (I created another bug for that, but in hindsight, all problems seem to be related to file IO, so perhaps it is one and the same bug afterall). Also, opening a document that was created on /tmp before freezes OOo. I can open the document and it is shown, but the cursor does not appear. ALso selecting text using the mouse does not work. At the bottom there's a gdb backtrace of the freeze after close (sorry, vi munged it a bit). -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-1-686 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=ISO-8859-15) Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on: ii openoffice.org-base 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - data ii openoffice.org-calc 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - spre ii openoffice.org-core 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite archit ii openoffice.org-draw 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - draw ii openoffice.org-impress 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - pres ii openoffice.org-java-common 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite Java s ii openoffice.org-math 2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - equa ii openoffice.org-writer2.0.4~rc3-1 OpenOffice.org office suite - word openoffice.org recommends no packages. -- no debconf informationA (gdb) info threads 9 Thread -1272071248 (LWP 18552) 0xb7f69410 in ?? Bug#391917: openbox: menu use section Window-Managers instead of WindowManagers
Package: openbox Version: 3.3-2 Severity: serious Hello Tollef, The section in openbox menu entry is incorrect: ?package(openbox):needs=wm \ section=Window-Managers title=Openbox \ command=/usr/bin/openbox According to the Debian menu subpolicy, the section should be WindowManagers, not Window-Managers. WindowManagers X window managers Now there was a typo in menufile(5) but this manpage is not authoritative. I will fix it in next menu version. This bug causes menu to generate a spurious Window-Managers section with a single entry. Cheers, -- Bill. Bug#391864: apache2.2-common: install fails because all mod-enabled packages test as invalid

Also, please make sure you use the latest version of the package. 2.2.3-2 was uploaded almost a week ago. For unknown reasons, the system attempted to install 2.2.3-1 instead of 2.2.3-2 for apache2.2-common, even though I'd done an update on Sunday evening, about 8 PM CT to make certain I had the latest packages. (It did successfully install the apache2 2.2.3-2 package.) I've just checked my /var/cache/apt/archives directory, and it contains the 2.2.3-1 package. I do not understand what happened. I have just tested this. apache2.2-common 2.2.3-2 loaded, and now apache2 fails to run, silently -- it won't start at all. I suspect another dependency error -- here it is. In part, the apache2.2 common requires that I enable mod_authn_files as a separate module in order to user AuthUserFile. And now the server is up and running, but the server offers to download PHP files instead of running them. There's some very squirrely stuff in these updates. If you want more bug reports, please let me know. This seems to make it impossible for Debian to patch released xen packages when security related bugs occur. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (200, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17.8 Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)

Bug#241279: marked as done (libaiksaurus-data: missing thesaurus source and attribution)
Your message dated Mon, 09 Oct 2006 07:17:41 -0700 with message-id [EMAIL PROTECTED] and subject line Bug#241279: fixed in aiksaurus 1.2.1+dev-0.12-3 has caused the attached Bug report to be marked as done. This means that you claim that the problem has been dealt with. If this is not the case it is now your responsibility to reopen the Bug report if necessary, and/or fix the problem forthwith. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: libaiksaurus-data Version: 1.0.1+cvs.2004.03.15-1 Severity: serious Neither the package description nor the copyright file indicate who compiled the thesaurus word lists. Even if the data are in the public domain, the original compilers deserve prominent acknowledgement. Furthermore, the GPL (the copyright file accompanying libaiksaurus-data) requires Debian to provide source in the preferred form for modification. However the source tarball contains binary meanings.dat and words.dat files. Is this really the preferred form? If upstream produced these binary files by running a program on an ASCII wordlist, then Debian can not legally distribute this package without also providing that ASCII file and program. (Hence the RC severity on this bug report.) --Andre ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Source: aiksaurus Source-Version: 1.2.1+dev-0.12-3 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of aiksaurus, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: aiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3.diff.gz to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/aiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3.diff.gz aiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3.dsc to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/aiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3.dsc aiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/aiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb gaiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/gaiksaurus_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb libaiksaurus-1.2-0c2a_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/libaiksaurus-1.2-0c2a_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb libaiksaurus-1.2-data_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_all.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/libaiksaurus-1.2-data_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_all.deb libaiksaurus-1.2-dev_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/libaiksaurus-1.2-dev_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb libaiksaurusgtk-1.2-0c2a_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/libaiksaurusgtk-1.2-0c2a_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb libaiksaurusgtk-1.2-dev_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb to pool/main/a/aiksaurus/libaiksaurusgtk-1.2-dev_1.2.1+dev-0.12-3_i386.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached. Bug#364127: latex-beamer, NMU, and its files in TeXlive and teTeX
clone 364127 -1 -2 reassign -1 tetex-base reassign -2 texlive-latex-recommended stop Yes, that would help, thank you very much. Naturally, redistributors like Debian who promise that all files included are Free Software would have to remove the TU logo file, but that's only a technical problem (replacing this with a eps that says this should be the the logo of the TU Berlin etc...). No time to do that, but it's not needed, either. I'll include the files beamerexamples1.pdf and beamerexamples5.pdf in tetex-doc-nonfree (and their source files in the source package). But the non-free logos need to be removed from the tarballs of tetex-base and texlive-extra, too. Note that these bugs are RC. I intend to upload (NMU) beamer today or tomorrow. If they release binary versions, we may not even be able to release binary versions. What I mean is, they may consider the act of compiling specifically for Debian a changed version. Bug#391970: gaim dependency on gaim-data seems to be incorrect
Package: gaim Version: 1:1.5.0+1.5.1cvs20051015-6 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable gaim now depends on =gaim-data 1:2.0.0+beta3.1-4 but gaim-data 1:2.0.0+beta3.1-5 is in unstable. Bug#387928: fontconfig: Cannot write cache files
On Mon, Oct 09, 2006 at 01:22:21PM +0200, Andreas Barth wrote: clone 387928 reassign -1 release-notes severity -1 normal retitle -1 user-modified fonts.conf-files needs to be overwritten submitter -1 [EMAIL PROTECTED] tags 387928 + moreinfo severity 387928 important thanks Hi David, * Keith Packard ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [060917 15:17]: This problem stems from user-modified fonts.conf files which renders fontconfig unable to replace it with the new version that includes the necessary cachdir elements. I'm not sure how to fix this, aside from forcibley overwritting the file. Please make sure you have allowed fontconfig to replace your fonts.conf file. can you check if that was the case in your case? Creating a dublicate of the bug report for the release notes now. Could someone clarify the meaning of the above statements? I am not sure if they refer to 1) the debconf setting 2) actual user edits of fonts.conf 3) user modification of the permission of fonts.conf 4) some combination of the above. Thanks.
