Hi!

I forget to say I'm using update packages (5.2.0-2 not 5.2.0-1). I think
it's not fixed at all.

Thanks.

thanks for your bug report. I guess, upstart is not the only program
using __thread and so failing to compile on hppa. Do you know how others
solved this issue? Can you give me some pointers how to deal with this
 properly?

glibc uses __thread (I know because it currently fails to build from
source in experimental on hppa because of this ;). But I can't say
how it handles arches where it is not supported.

Quoting from http://lists.debian.org/debian-glibc/2006/08/msg00324.html

In short TLS support will probably be unavoidable
and a requirement for etch + 1.

For hppa it should not be problem as it has TLS support
in both upstream binutils (in upcoming 2.18) and gcc 4.1.

Bug#396840: using pyversions in debian/rules is not reliable

2006-11-10 Thread Loïc Minier
Hi,

On Thu, Nov 09, 2006, Alexandre Fayolle wrote:

I have python-all installed, so I would expect the call to pyversions to
 return python2.3 python2.4 python2.5

I think what you describe is correct behavior. pyversions was changed
so that we can get rid of python2.3, and this means we should not build
any new packages against python2.3, and rebuilds will hence lose their
 python2.3- virtual provide.

Concerning python2.5, it's not enabled yet because it's not expected to
be the default version in etch, but I suppose it could be now that it
is officially released and in sync in etch.

Any package building C extension modules rebuilt with the current setup
will only compile the C extension for python2.4, which is not what we
 want.

 I think it is. :)

My bug report is about packages which were built with a pyversions
returning python2.3 and based on python-support, but not usable anymore
now that pyversions does not return 2.3.

Bug#397892: libpng: CVE-2006-3334: specially crafted PNG may crash your browser

2006-11-10 Thread Aníbal Monsalve Salazar
Package: libpng
Severity: grave
Version: 1.2.8rel-7
Tags: security

At http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-3334
it reads:

  Name: CVE-2006-3334 (under review)
  Status: Candidate
Description: Buffer overflow in the png_decompress_chunk
function in pngrutil.c in libpng before 1.2.12 allows
context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service
and possibly execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors
related to chunk error processing, possibly involving the
  chunk_name.

At http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng.html it reads:

  Versions up through 1.2.11 and 1.0.19 have a buffer-overrun
vulnerability when a particular error message is triggered.
The overrun is always by exactly two bytes ('k' and NULL)
so it seems highly unlikely that it could be used for
anything more nefarious than denial of service (e.g.,
crashing your browser when you visit a site displaying a
specially crafted PNG). Nevertheless, it's worth fixing,
and versions libpng 1.2.12 and libpng 1.0.20, released 27
June 2006, do just that. (Note that 1.2.11 and 1.0.19
erroneously claimed to include the fix, but in fact it had
  been inadvertently omitted.)

The same releases (and their immediate predecessors) also
fix an out-of-bounds (by one) memory read and a second
buffer overrun, this one in the code that writes the sCAL
chunk (which is rather rare in any case).

Bug#396864: phpunit2: FTBFS on amd64: memory size exhausted

2006-11-10 Thread Ondřej Surý
Ah, I can see the light now :-).

/usr/bin/php problem is fixed in latest PHP, it was reintroduced at
least in 5.2.0-1.

And problem with PEAR and memory limit is caused by '-n' switch which
causes PHP not to read any .INI file at all. It will be fixed in next
upload of PHP.

Bug#397892: libpng: CVE-2006-3334: specially crafted PNG may crash your browser

2006-11-10 Thread Aníbal Monsalve Salazar
On Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 08:42:49PM +1100, Anibal Monsalve Salazar wrote:
Package: libpng

Version: 1.2.8rel-7

At http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2006-3334
it reads:

  Name: CVE-2006-3334 (under review)
  Status: Candidate
Description: Buffer overflow in the png_decompress_chunk
function in pngrutil.c in libpng before 1.2.12 allows
context-dependent attackers to cause a denial of service
and possibly execute arbitrary code via unspecified vectors
related to chunk error processing, possibly involving the
  chunk_name.

That was backported in #377298 which is already fixed.

Same here, it was backported in #377298 which is already
fixed.

The same releases (and their immediate predecessors) also
fix an out-of-bounds (by one) memory read and a second
buffer overrun, this one in the code that writes the sCAL
chunk (which is rather rare in any case).

That hasn't been fixed yet.

make[2]: `Makefile.dep' is up to date.
 make[2]: Leaving directory `/build/root/omake-0.9.6.8-1/boot'

On my system, Makefile.dep is rebuilt at this stage, so that
omake_gen_magic correctly picks up a dependency on lm_string_util.
Is there something specific with your setup that might explain why
Makefile.dep isn't created? The boot directory in the build tree
is created at build time, so Makefile.dep should really be rebuilt at
that point. I fail to understand why make thinks it's up to date.

Hi Julien,

I tried again. With exactly the same environment (wiped out totally
during builds), I built omake 8 times. It built successfully 3 times and
failed 5 times.

So it seems to be caused by a transient problem ...

This can be closed as soon as libpfm3-3.2 is released from the
 NEW queue.

That is now the case.

Note, however, that qprof has previously built on other architectures where
libpfm3-3.2-dev is not available; these binaries will need to be removed
from unstable before this version of qprof can propagate to testing.

Closes: 392399
Changes:
 netdude (0.3.3-2.2) unstable; urgency=high
 .
   * Non-maintainer upload.
   * High-urgency upload for RC bugfix.
   * Install plugins and protocols to /usr/lib instead of /usr/share; thanks
to Steinar Gunderson for his work on these patches.
 - fix_libdir.dpatch: Install to pkglibdir instead of pkgdatadir, update
configure.ac to provide PACKAGE_LIB_DIR, change C code to use
PACKAGE_LIB_DIR instead of PACKAGE_DATA_DIR for default plugins and
   protocols path.
 - fix_automake1.9_issues.dpatch: Fix the definition of mkinstalldirs
not to use @MKINSTALLDIRS@, remove the obsolete acconfig.h header, add
missing quotes to AC_PATH_GENERIC in acinclude.m4, use AM_LDFLAGS
instead of LDFLAGS in all Makefile.am's, and adjust the definitions of
several other defines in configure.ac. This brings us full
compatibility with autoconf 2.60a and automake1.9, necessary since
automake 1.5 is no longer in Debian.
 - re-autotoolize.dpatch: Run autoreconf and libtoolize -f -c after
applying fix_libdir.dpatch, since we mess with both configure.ac and
   various Makefile.am files.
 - adjust the dependencies in debian/rules so that patch happens before
configure and at the end of clean, because of the patching of our
   configure script.
 - In debian/*.{files,dirs}, replace /usr/share/netdude/{plugins,protocols}
by the appropriate path in /usr/lib.
 (Closes: #392399)
   * AM_MAINTAINER_MODE.dpatch: add the maintainer mode flag in automake, to
avoid spurious rebuilds of the autogenerated files which would break our
 dpatch patches to this code.

Hi,

irda-utils fails to install because the init-script fails to start:

Bug#397158: beast: files gone missing when rebuilt

2006-11-10 Thread Frank Küster
tags 397158 patch
thanks

Nicolas Boullis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

 Package: beast

 Hi,

When beast is rebuilt, the /usr/share/mime/audio/x-bse.xml and
/usr/share/mime/audio/x-bsewave.xml file disappears from the package.

This means that when the security team will rebuild the packages (if
needed), the file will disappear, and users will be confused.

On some non-i386 architectures (such as powerpc), these files are
 already missing.

The same happens on i386, and the following patch fixes the problem:

Bug#280803: Removing GFDL'ed docs from gcc-4.0 packages

2006-11-10 Thread Frank Küster
Hi Matthias,

what's up with these bugs (280803 and 321780, 321781, 321782)? Can you
provide the patches you used to split out the docs from gcc-4.1? I
think we would need the patches corresponding to these changelog
entries:

gcc-4.1 (4.1.1ds1-12) unstable; urgency=medium

  [Matthias Klose]
[...]
  * Build without GFDL licensed docs. Closes: #384036.
- debian/patches/{svn-doc-updates,pr25524-doc,pr26885-doc}.dpatch:
  Split out -doc specific patches.
- debian/*.texi, debian/porting.html: Add dummy documentation.
- debian/rules.unpack, debian/rules.patch: Update for non-gfdl build.
- fastjar.texi: Directly define the gcctabopt and gccoptlist macros.

and

gcc-4.1 (4.1.1-11) unstable; urgency=low

  [Matthias Klose]
[...]
  * Do not build the -doc packages and derived manual pages licensed under
the GFDL with invariant sections or cover texts.

Can you provide these patches, so that we can start working from them?

TIA, Frank

It may be more a problem with sablevm itself. See how your grid5000

Arnaud fixed the problem by switching to java-gcj-compat-dev instead of
jikes-sablevm but it is just a work-around hidding the true problem.

Bug#393692: libphp-phplot: ships font with no author or license

2006-11-10 Thread Steve Langasek
tags 393692 patch
thanks

Hi Jeremy,

I've prepared a fix for this package by repacking the upstream tarball to
remove the benjamingothic.ttf file. I think Sam is right; since this font
is being shipped as an example only, it's really not even worth the effort
of tracking down a valid license for it when we can just remove it without
impacting the functionality of this package.

I have also fixed up debian/copyright to conform with Debian policy, as
mentioned earlier in this bug log. The changes to the Debian diff are
attached.

The fix will be uploaded to incoming shortly as a 0-day NMU.

Thanks,

Severity: important
Justification: causes camas to FTBFS, but causes unclear so not RC for now
Usertag: grid5000

Hi,

While running a rebuild of the whole archive, I ran into a problem with
camas: its build times out during dependencies resolution, after starting
caudium.

Setting up intltool-debian (0.35.0+20060710.1) ...
Setting up po-debconf (1.0.6) ...
Setting up debhelper (5.0.40) ...
Setting up pike7.6-dev (7.6.93-1) ...
Setting up caudium-modules (1.4.9.1-1) ...
Setting up caudium (1.4.9.1-1) ...
Starting Caudium Webserver: caudium.

After this, nothing else is displayed, but sbuild doesn't return. The
process tree looks like:
 9167 pts/0S+ 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/sbuild -d etch32
-A camas_1.2.21-2.1
 9193 pts/0S+ 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/sbuild -d
etch32 -A camas_1.2.21-2.1
 9194 pts/0S+ 0:00 | \_ /usr/bin/perl /usr/bin/sbuild -d
etch32 -A camas_1.2.21-2.1
 9325 pts/0Z+ 0:00 | \_ [schroot] defunct

With an instance of pike7.6 started:
9757 pts/0S+ 0:00 /usr/bin/pike7.6
-M/usr/lib/caudium/etc/modules /usr/lib/caudium/start-caudium
--pid-file=/var/run/caudium/caudium.pid
--config-dir=/etc/caudium/servers

I really don't know how to investigate this further, but prefer to file
this bug to document the issue, since somebody might be better at this
than I am. The bug might be in camas, caudium or even sbuild, I don't
know.

It would be great if somebody could take a look at this.

Thank you,

the path. Fixes FTBFS in the cases where caudium would have problems

Bug#383481: nvidiafb contains obfuscated source code, DFSG violation?

2006-11-10 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 383481 important
thanks

When Kyle cloned this bug, his comment was:

Wow. Looks a lot like copying register bank settings. Much like
 the drivers listed in Bug#383403.

I don't believe there's any prevailing sentiment that the DFSG requires
non-numeric source in the case of register settings being changed; indeed,
various discussions on debian-vote and the like have explicitly acknowledged
that in cases when we *know* we're dealing with registers rather than code
compiled for an embedded processor, no source code is needed. I'm going to
go out on a limb then and downgrade this bug; it is arguably still a bug
since there is room for improvement to the source, but it's not an RC bug.

P.P.S.: _I_ do think this is somewhat release critical :-D

Not only somewhat. According to the Ubuntu trademark policy [1], we have

Bug#397874: subversion-tools: Please do not conflict with kdesdk-scripts

2006-11-10 Thread Andreas Pakulat
Package: subversion-tools
Version: 1.4.2dfsg1-1
Followup-For: Bug #397874

Hi Peter,

I just read the bugreport and that you want to conflict with
kdesdk-scripts. Please don't. People might want to install both
packages and IMHO they shouldn't conflict because both contain 1 script
among many files that are the same.

You could rename the script, or use alternatives, conflict IMHO is the
worst option.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree The build still fails for me. This
seems to be a problem with sablevm when running inside a 32 bits chroot
on an AMD64 system.

libcommons-jexl-java (#395366) was also affected but was changed to
build using java-gcj-compat-dev instead of jikes.

This might be similar to #289494.

- Using the following test program:
public class Hello {
public static void main (String args[]) {
System.out.println(Hello World);
}
}

- On debian unstable AMD64 system (quite up to date, but not perfectly
up to date)

I did NOT encounter the problem in a etch amd64 chroot, but I encoutered
it in a etch i386 chroot:
# javac Hello.java
# java Hello

On Fri, Nov 10, 2006 at 15:02:58 +0100, Frank Küster wrote:

Are you involved in hevea packaging or development? Shouldn't this bug
rather be fixed in the hevea package, or at least in both?

I am involved in neither of them, I just happen to be part of
debian-ocaml-maint@lists.debian.org, which is listed as Maintainer for
hevea, so I contacted Luc Maranget about these build failures, and he
promptly replied with patches.
The build error was caused by \remakesection being removed, and Luc
feels it's better not to use this macro than to reintroduce it.
The rest of the patch only fixes warnings, which would not cause a build
failure, but fixing them also means improving the html output. These
warnings were probably already there with previous versions of hevea.
If you want more information, I'm sure Luc will be helpful.

Cheers,
Julien

I think what you describe is correct behavior. pyversions was changed
so that we can get rid of python2.3, and this means we should not build
any new packages against python2.3, and rebuilds will hence lose their
  python2.3- virtual provide.

Concerning python2.5, it's not enabled yet because it's not expected to
be the default version in etch, but I suppose it could be now that it

In my opinion, shipping etch with python2.5 (even as non default) and no
extension module compiled for python2.5 is a bit strange.

Any package building C extension modules rebuilt with the current setup

That's really bad. I suspected you would only have 2.4 and be missing
