Bug#418813: locales still won't install. Dependency problem on i386

2007-04-16 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Selim T. Erdogan a écrit :
The last message I saw on the bug page mentioned that the glibc-2.5-1
virtual package is provided by libc6 2.5-2. But I've just done a system
update (on unstable) and the available version of libc6 is 2.5-1.
 Furthermore, according to
 http://packages.debian.org/unstable/libs/libc6,
2.5-2 is the version on amd64 -- for i386, the version is 2.5-1. For
this latter version the control info has
 Provides: glibc-2.5.0-0exp1, glibc-2.5.0-0exp2

Could it be that the glibc-2.5-1 virtual package is only provided by the
version of libc6 for amd64, but not by i386?

Nope, the problem is that libc6 2.5-2 has not been uploaded yet on i386.
Please be patient.

Bug#419189: i'd suggest a check

2007-04-16 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Peter Green a écrit :
it seems like it would be a good idea to check for non dpkg owned versions
of problem libraries sitting in that directory in the preinst and either
aborting the upgrade before the system is left in a badly broken state or
moving the files out of the way.

Well it's what we plan to do. However, it probably have won't help in
that case, as /lib/tls/libc.so.6 and /lib/tls/libc-2.3.6.so where dpkg
owned before the upgrade.

It looks like dpkg fails to remove those two files, however we fail to
reproduce that in a chroot.

Bug#419189: Error on installing libc6 2.5-1 - breaks system

2007-04-16 Thread Aurelien Jarno
[EMAIL PROTECTED] a écrit :
The point is that your system has very akward things, as what lies in
 your /lib/tls:
   * _seems_ to come from a libc 2.3.2;
   * still has a libc-2.3.6.so too that has not the correct permissions
_BUT_ the same size and date as the libc-2.3.2.so (which is
 completely absurd).
   * sizes that are unrecorded in known debian packages.

So we're really wondering what has been happening on that system. Did
you installed ubuntu packages at some point ? did you do anything
peculiar to your system ? do you use prelink ? well, any kind of
additionnal informations would be really apprecited.

Oh and which kernel did you had _before_ the glibc2.5 upgrade ? a 2.6
 ? or still a 2.4 ?

The strange files come from knoppix 5.2. I have forgotten to tell you about
a stupid try to repair the system. I'm really sorry.

 I used ever a 2.6 kernel.

Ok, it looks like /lib/tls/libc.so.6 and /lib/tls/libc-2.3.6.so were not
removed by dpkg during the upgrade.

Could you please send us the contents of /var/log/dpkg.log? Also what is
the file system you are using for you root partition?

 Hi,

tetexlive-bin fails to build on Alpha:

The reason is an obscure bug in gcc that only triggers when accessing
exactly the 32767th element of a character array. Since I don't know

Just wanted to stop by and say that the patch fixed the trouble here,
too. However the problem appeared only on systems with NVidia graphic
cards when using the Xinerama extension. The problem did not appear on
single-monitor setups. I hope the fixed version will make it into Etch.

Hi

on package upgrade postinst overwrites /etc/cron.d/planet regardless it
had some local modifications. This is IMHO against 10.7.3 of Debian
Policy Manual and should be fixed.

Maybe you can consider using ucf, which was built for such purpose.

Hi,

I'm very sorry for this, in particular because we have already discussed
this problem in the past but forgot about it before the upload of
texlive 2007 to unstable. (And many thanks to Ralf and others for filing
the bugs.)

The quick fix to make all these packages installable again, and those
bugs non-RC, is to just drop the tetex-base dependency (and
build-dependency, if applicable). It will not close them, however,
because no package should depend on the transitional packages tetex-bin
or tetex-extra. Instead, proper texlive dependencies need to be found.

I plan to NMU all these bugs (with the quick fix) as fast as my time
permits, and depending on the reaction of maintainers, of course. I'll
start with those that have unacknowledged NMUs and try to continue as
effectively as possible - please tell me if you are preparing an upload
yourself. Please don't take these NMUs as offensive, it's rather my
self-punishment for not thinking about filing proper bugs in advance.

As always, help for finding proper texlive-dependencies can be found on
http://pkg-tetex.alioth.debian.org/mapping-texlive.html and by asking on
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Regards, Frank

It has always been a bug to depend on tetex-base[1]

[1] except in some very special, theoretical case which AFAIK does not
apply to any package in Debian

Bug#418098: [rdesktop-devel] [PATCH] rdesktop segfault with libx11-6 1.0.3-7

2007-04-16 Thread Matthew Chapman
One small point: I think it might be better to pass 8 for bitmap_pad
rather than g_bpp... which should have the same effect of specifying no
padding, but is in line with X11 documentation which specifies that you
should pass 8, 16 or 32 for bitmap_pad. I'm a little worried that some
future X server might not be happy with 24.

In principle I also tend to agree with Ilya, that it would be better to
supply bytes_per_line as a sanity check... if rdesktop and X disagree on
it then you'd get garbage on the screen, as you saw with your initial
test. But then, for bitmap_pad=8, I can't imagine that the X server
would arrive at a different value to cx*g_bpp/8.

Matt

fancyheadings is an obsolete style for LaTeX 2.09. It's been obsolete
since 1994 when LaTeX 2\epsilon came out. I wonder why teTeX-3.0 still
contained it...

From the name, fancydr.sty seems like providing similar functionality,
but I'd be very surprised if it was a drop-in replacement.

Hello,

I have the same version installed here and I can't agree that this bug
exists, I tested it here on my local machine in the office:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ at 11:40
warning: commands will be executed using /bin/sh
at echo test | mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
at EOT
job 1 at Mon Apr 16 11:40:00 2007
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ atq
1 Mon Apr 16 11:40:00 2007 a mario

Exactly on time the command was executed (as I can see in
/var/log/mail.log) so I think you use the program in a wrong way?!
Maybe you forgot to finish scheduling the job with Ctrl+D.

Thanks and regards

No, I used at in the same way as I did before under sarge. My favourite
way to execute the at command is something like this:

for host in list; do ssh -l root $host 'echo shutdown -r +5 | at
16:43'; done

This works on sarge, but fails on etch. I can see that the job starts
running, because the output of atq changes from 1 Sun Apr 15 16:43:00
2007 a root to 1 Sun Apr 15 16:43:00 2007 = root, but the job is not
completed and stays in the queue.

  Christoph

Bug#419481: libc6 fails to upgrade on AMD64 X2

2007-04-16 Thread Manuel

I'm sorry but my antispam system caught up all of your messages and it's
taken a while for me to be aware of them. I hope it won't happend ever
again.

was it the error the first time you tried to install ?

Yes. Actually I've also tried with the previous 2.5 glibc versions from
experimental and same result.

does it segfaults with a debian kernel (such as 2.6.18 or .20) as well ?

I also ckecked the segfault with 2.6.19 .20 vanilla kernel. I'll try to
test it for a debian one as soon as possible.

Do you run selinux or any particular stuff ?

Not the case.

ould you give your /etc/nsswitch.conf please ?

Unfortunately I cannot reach the machine right now, I'll report it later
(but I've never touched such a file). Also, I'll try to setup a chroot
system with just this news libs to isolate the problem (if I manually
install them in the root system, the init process segfaults at the
beginning).

More info: not a single problem with other x86 and x86_64 systems (but
neither of them are SMP).

Thanks for your help

Bug#419525: Replacing files in same directories - where one path has a symbolic link - leads to deletion.

2007-04-16 Thread Dieter Lucking

Package: nautilus
Version: 2.14.3
Severity: critical

Doing this;
cd /tmp/
echo a
ln -s /tmp
cd tmp
mv a /tmp/
Gives me:
mv: `a' and `/tmp/a' are the same file

Replacing /tmp/a with /tmp/tmp/a in nautilus leads to deletion - copy/paste,
cut/paste or drag/drop will do it.

Regards Dieter

I own and mad64X2 too, and it worked flawlessly. You will need to run
the preinst/postrm in '-x' mode to see what happens, if that's bash that
segfaults, or a subcommand.

(edit your /var/lib/dpkg/info/libc6.postinst and set the #! line to sh
-x instead of plain sh).

Bug#419531: Menus unusables (i.e. without effect) in new gnome-art upload

2007-04-16 Thread Bonaccorso Salvatore
Package: gnome-art
Version: 0.2-6
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi

I'm not sure about the severity (if choosen correct). I thought about
that: makes the package in question unusable by most or all users.

When I start gnome-art from a open terminal-emulation, the following
lines appear:

---snip---
/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/glib2.rb: line 55
   GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:g_boxed_type_register_static: assertion

Then choosing any menu, for example Art - Backgrounds - GNOME
nothing happens, and in the open terminal emulation:

If I have to provide more information, I will try!

Bug#418976: Various bugs regarding context

2007-04-16 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi all! Hi Frank!

Thanks all for the bug reports regarding ConTeXt.

As far as my understanding goes the problem is the following:
- tetex (old) and texlive 2005 leaves stuff in /var/lib/texmf
- new texlive packages and transitional tetex packages do not clean up
  this mess
- context uses ctxfmtutil which:
. has a bug concerning the format metafun
. which uses texexec which puts metafun not into web2c/metapost
. !!! which will go away with the next upload

As a temporary solution for all of you please do:
- remove .mem .fmt files in /var/lib/texmf/web2c
- call update-fmtutil
- call fmtutil-sys --all

After this
- all formats should be regenerated into the respective subdirectories
- context should be installable

The above problems will be solved (hopefully soon):
- context will get an upgrade and will use the default fmt.d config
files as do all other texlive packages.
I will try to move the texlive-context config file, but NOT the
texmf/context/formats.cnf file. If you made changes, sorry please
  transfer them by hand.
- new incarnation of texlive packages will (probably) clean up the mess
generated in the /var/lib/texmf/web2c directory left over from tetex
packages and old texlive packages. We need this anyway.

Best wishes

Norbert

Bug#393373: IETF's RFC license issues

2007-04-16 Thread Simon Josefsson
Luca Bruno [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 tags 393373 + pending
 thanks

 Hi,
Looking at this bug, it looks like gtk-gnutella actually contains two
 RFC:

 gtk-gnutella-0.96.1svn11444/doc/other/rfc3548.txt
 MISMATCH rfc3548.txt
 (which indeed is rfc3548)

 gtk-gnutella-0.96.1svn11444/doc/gnutella/draft-nielsen-dime-02.txt
 MATCH draft-nielsen-dime-02.txt

The first is actually made obsolete by rfc4648 by the same author (S.
Josefsson, CC:ed here) which contains the right copyright notice.
As Simon is currently directly involved in this mass-bug-reporting, I
think that this rfc is not the main problem: I will maintain it as is
for now, asking upstream to replace it with rfc4648 in the next upstream
release. Simon, as the copyright owner, are you ok with it?

I'm not the copyright owner of the entire document. Substantial parts
of it was copied (with permission under the normal IETF license) from
earlier RFC documents. We don't have permission to redistribute those
pieces under a DFSG-compatible license.

The second one instead seems to be a real trouble, I will ask the
authors for a better license, but I'm pessimist and I think I will end
removing it from the tarball and asking upstream to do the same.

Alas, I suspect that you'll have to remove both. :-(

/Simon

It is still an important bug to depend on tetex-bin and tetex-extra.
These are packages targetted at users, they are intended to provide
DWIM-upgrades from etch to lenny, and will for sure change the number of
packages they pull in. In particular, the number of packages pulled in
will soon be reduced; in the worst case this bug will become RC again
after that.

pack the contents of /etc/texmf/texmf.d/ and /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf into a

I don't know if the system will ever finish this, but 5 five minutes seems

Hi,

Your package is failing to build on atleast amd64. The problem is that
it's trying to install files in lib64:
install -d -m 0755 /build/buildd/glew-1.3.6/debian/tmp/usr/lib64
install -s -m 0644 lib/libGLEW.so.1.3.6
/build/buildd/glew-1.3.6/debian/tmp/usr/lib64/
[...]

And then fails with:
dh_install --sourcedir=debian/tmp
dh_install: libglew-dev missing files (usr/lib/lib*.a), aborting
make: *** [binary-arch] Error 1

On Debian, all libraries should be put in the /usr/lib/ directory and
things will break if you put them in the /usr/lib64/ directory.

If your try to run the postrm twice (which it is required to handle
correctly by policy 6.2) you get the following error:

Removing xml-core ...
Purging configuration files for xml-core ...
rmdir: xml-core: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing xml-core (--purge):
subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1

Also the cd - afterwards is very fragile since you can't really
depend on this directory to exist. The postrm should probably not fail
if it doesn't.

Hi Eugeniy,

You are right, there is an off-by-one error in locale-gen :(
  sed -i -e 's/20051016/20051017/' /usr/sbin/locale-gen

A workaround is to replace
  GLIBC_MAGIC=auto
by
  GLIBC_MAGIC=20051014
in /etc/belocs/locale-gen.conf and run
  locale-gen --purge
That said, removing belocs-locales-* is surely a good idea, it
seems that nobody is willing to maintain these packages.

2007-04-16 Thread Kurt Roeckx
Package: xvfb-run

Hi,

It seems you only recommend xbase-clients instead of depending on it.
It seems that xvfb-run doesn't want to run without xauth:
if ! which xauth /dev/null; then
error xauth command not found
exit 3
fi

The manpage also states:
xvfb-run requires the xauth command to function.

So I think the recommends on xbase-clients should be changed to a
Depends.

   * scripts/functions: reduce_satisfied() needs to ignore the same set as
set_initlist() otherwise an script having a prereqs on a non-executable
boot script may cause circular panic. (closes: 418509)
   * Add blacklist boot param, disabling the load of specific modules inside
the initramfs. Still needs to be passed via tmpfs to the rootfs.

What is the liblcms1-dev version on your buildd? You must have =1.16-3 as

I just noticed that the libpango udeb has gotten two new dependencies on
libraries so far not used in the installer: libdatrie0 and libthai0.

Is there any chance of building the udeb without the need for those libs?

In the mean time, we will not be able to build the installer until the
libs are either dropped or new udebs are created for them.

If you need to discuss this, please CC the debian-boot list.

Bug#419597: please remove twolame (patent infringement)

2007-04-16 Thread Robert Millan
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: serious

twolame contains code (MP3 encoding algorithm) which infringes patents of
the Fraunhofer Institute. This falls in the Software that can't be packaged
cathegory in WNPP:

  http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/unable-to-package

and I don't see any discussion in debian-legal contradicting it.

Would you please remove it from stable, testing and unstable ?

(Yes, this breaks vlc and darkice, but that can be fixed later. Even for
stable, the can't install severity justifies a new upload.)

Bug#419481: libc6 fails to upgrade on AMD64 X2

2007-04-16 Thread Manuel Cepedello Boiso
Ok, I blame myself for not uncovering the culprit before: the directory
/lib64 was not a symlink to /lib but an older copy of it (with glibc
version 2.3.5). No one trouble with the upgrade after replacing it.

Probably something went wrong with the instalation,
however no one glitch has showed up until now.

I apologise for my dumb blindness...

was it the error the first time you tried to install ?

Bug#419597: please remove twolame (patent infringement)

2007-04-16 Thread Don Armstrong
On Mon, 16 Apr 2007, Robert Millan wrote:
twolame contains code (MP3 encoding algorithm) which infringes patents of
the Fraunhofer Institute. This falls in the Software that can't be packaged
 cathegory in WNPP:

Except that according to its package description, it does not contain
code to encode Mpeg Audio Layer 3 files, only MPEG Audio Layer 2.
[Indeed, the very threat of litigation involving mp3 is why twolame
exists.]

I don't personally know if mp2 is safe from patents or not (I would
guess that it isn't, but I can't make a determination either way
anyway) but to my knowledge we have yet to see people asserting
patents which cover mp2.

Feel free to provide specific evidence to contradict me, however.

Bug#419618: xpdf: segfault on print

2007-04-16 Thread Stephen Gran
Package: xpdf-reader
Version: 3.01-9
Severity: grave

The pdf at http://travel.state.gov/pdf/ds-5504.pdf can reliably crash
xpdf, kpdf, and evince when I try to print it. This may be a problem
of the interaction between the pdf viewers and cups, although since all
3 share the segfault and acroread doesn't, I am inclined to think it's
a problem of the viewers. I have marked it grave, as segfaults usually
make me worry about arbitrary code execution and the like. If you feel
that the severity isn't justified, feel free to lower the priority.

I'll clone this to evince and kpdf once I get a bug number back from the
BTS.

Thanks,

Bug#419581: xvfb-run: Should depend on xbase-clients: xauth command not found

2007-04-16 Thread Julien Cristau
On Mon, Apr 16, 2007 at 20:44:15 +0200, Kurt Roeckx wrote:

It seems you only recommend xbase-clients instead of depending on it.
It seems that xvfb-run doesn't want to run without xauth:
if ! which xauth /dev/null; then
 error xauth command not found

 The manpage also states:
xvfb-run requires the xauth command to function.

xfvb-run requires xauth, but Xvfb doesn't. The recommends is correct,
in my opinion.

Bug#418672: mysql-server-5.0: Creates root accounts without password on upgrade

Hi

The old entry is preseved but you should have three additional ones.
Depending on the host field you may or may not get asked for the password.

...in which it's stated that mysql_install_db *should* be idempotent, at
least wrt the mysql.user tables. btw this was reported yesterday and
 fixed today.

That one's great. I've used it and upload a fix to unstable soon.

Any suggestions what we do about existing installations? Print a warning
in debian-start when there are root accounts with and ones without a
password? This would go to syslog on every server start and well cannot hurt
anyway, or?

Bug#419602: gri: FTBFS: f.tex not found, images will be ignored

2007-04-16 Thread Peter S Galbraith
Thanks Kurt. Thanks confusing though, since epsf.tex is part of
tetex-base, and gri build-depends on tetex-bin (which in turn depends on
tetex-base). At least, that's true on my system, which I'll admit that
I haven't updated one a month or so.

I'll clone this to evince and kpdf once I get a bug number back from the
 BTS.

Hi,

It prints ok here on etch. CUPS is my print server also.
Do you have trouble printing to file, or only to the printer?

Xpdf 3.02 should be uploaded RSN so I'll be interested to get an update
from you at that time.

Bug#419618: /usr/bin/pdftops: pdftops segfault, additional file

2007-04-16 Thread Andreas Bombe
Package: xpdf-utils
Version: 3.01-9
Followup-For: Bug #419618

This segfault on print bug seems to be solely the fault of pdftops
segfaulting somewhere down the line. Handing the file directly to CUPS
via lp also fails with a pdftops signal 11 reported in the error log.

The file I encountered the bug on is available at
http://www.kba.de/Stabsstelle/ZentraleRegister/VZR/FormularVZRneu1.pdf

Most other PDFs I tried seem to work, a few also crash pdftops.

Bug#418833: grass: Init.sh is broken

2007-04-16 Thread Hamish
Package: grass
Version: 6.0.2-0.dgis.stable.1
Followup-For: Bug #418833

that patch makes it functional, but still there is a problem?

[this is lib/init/init.sh; bug already fixed by Frankie in DebianGIS's SVN]

http://svn.debian.org/wsvn/pkg-grass/packages/grass/trunk/debian/patches/www-browser.dpatch?op=filerev=0sc=0

problem:

+ else
+ GRASS_HTML_BROWSER=true

GRASS_HTML_BROWSER should be the path to a web broswer executable, not a boolean
answer. UNLESS we just want it to silently fail by setting the web browser to be
`/bin/true`, but that's a bit odd and misleading to readers of the script.

FWIW I've cleaned up this part of lib/init/init.sh in the GRASS CVS some weeks
ago:
http://freegis.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/grass6/lib/init/init.sh
  Revision 1.106

suggest changing the `true` fallback to something more web browserish.
(mozilla not found is a better error message than true not found)
