Bug#437020: Some possibly helpful info
I too encountered this problem this morning on 2 PCs running Unstable. On one PC: ecj, which also upgrades libecj-java consistently generates this error. The following were all upgradable individually but generated the error when I tried to upgrade them all together. (I was trying to find out which packages were causing the problem) bsdutils (1:2.13-2) to 1:2.13-3 apache2-utils (2.2.4-3) to 2.2.6-1 elisa (0.1.7-2) to 0.3.1-2 } python-pigment (0.1.5-2) to 0.3.1-2} Installed the following packages:} together libpigment0.3-1 (0.3.1-2)} python-pysqlite2 (2.3.5-1) } libgdl-1-0 (0.7.6-1) to 0.7.7-1 } libgdl-1-common (0.7.6-1) to 0.7.7-1 } libgsf-1-114 (1.14.6-1) to 1.14.7-1 } libgsf-1-common (1.14.6-1) to 1.14.7-1 } libsqlite0 (2.8.17-2) to 2.8.17-2.1 } libsqlite0-dev (2.8.17-2) to 2.8.17-2.1} mount (2.13-2) to 2.13-3 pdfedit (0.3.1-1) to 0.3.2-1 util-linux (2.13-2) to 2.13-3 On the other PC the following generated the error when I tried upgrading them together: texlive-base, texlive-base-bin, texlive-common, texlive-fonts recommended. However these upgraded OK yesterday on the first machine. I have not done any more on the second PC and am willing to test any procedures you may suggest. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#441289: gnucash: FTBFS due to g-wrap transition.
Package: gnucash Version: 2.0.5-1.1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Justification: no longer builds from source debian/rules needs to be tweaked to allow gnucash to use the current version of g-wrap in unstable. As a side-effect, the new g-wrap version also detects libffi correctly on mips and mipsel so a fixed gnucash should migrate into testing cleanly. 1. Remove runtime dependency on g-wrap. 2. Switch to guile-1.8 (a bug in guile-1.8 means guile-1.6-slib is still needed but guile-1.8 is needed to build with current g-wrap) 3. Change libgwrap-runtime0-dev to libgwrap-runtime-dev to bring in libgwrap-runtime2. The net effect of these is that the gnucash binary depends on libgwrap-runtime2 which will also ensure that gnucash migrates into testing only when g-wrap is fixed. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-2-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnucash depends on: ii g-wrap 1.9.6-3.2scripting interface generator for ii gconf2 2.18.0.1-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnucash-common 2.0.5-1.1A personal finance tracking progra ii guile-1.6-libs 1.6.8-6 Main Guile libraries ii guile-1.6-slib 1.6.8-6 Guile SLIB support ii guile-g-wrap1.9.6-3.2scripting interface generator for ii libart-2.0-22.3.19-3 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libatk1.0-0 1.18.0-2 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-02.18.0-2 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libbonoboui2-0 2.18.0-5 The Bonobo UI library ii libc6 2.6.1-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcairo2 1.4.10-1+b2 The Cairo 2D vector graphics libra ii libcrypt-ssleay-perl0.55-1 Support for https protocol in LWP ii libdate-manip-perl 5.44-5 a perl library for manipulating da ii libffi4 4.2.1-5 Foreign Function Interface library ii libfinance-quote-perl 1.13-1 Perl module for retrieving stock q ii libfontconfig1 2.4.2-1.2generic font configuration library ii libfreetype62.3.5-1+b1 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgconf2-4 2.18.0.1-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglade2-0 1:2.6.2-1library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-02.14.0-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-keyring0 0.8.1-2 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-0 2.18.0-4 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomecanvas2-0 2.14.0-3 A powerful object-oriented display ii libgnomeprint2.2-0 2.18.1-1 The GNOME 2.2 print architecture - ii libgnomeprintui2.2-02.18.0-2 GNOME 2.2 print architecture User ii libgnomeui-02.18.1-2 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgnomevfs2-0 1:2.18.1-3 GNOME Virtual File System (runtime ii libgoffice-1-2 0.2.1-4 Document centric objects library - ii libgsf-1-1141.14.6-1 Structured File Library - runtime ii libgsf-gnome-1-114 1.14.6-1 Structured File Library - runtime ii libgtk2.0-0 2.10.13-1The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtkhtml3.8-153.12.3-2 HTML rendering/editing library - r ii libguile-ltdl-1 1.6.8-6 Guile's patched version of libtool ii libgwrap-runtime0 1.9.6-3.2scripting interface generator for ii libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libltdl31.5.24-1 A system independent dlopen wrappe ii libofx3 1:0.8.2-3+b3 library to support Open Financial ii liborbit2 1:2.14.7-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.18.1-1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpng12-0 1.2.15~beta5-2 PNG library - runtime ii libpopt01.10-3 lib for parsing cmdline parameters ii libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxcursor1 1:1.1.9-1X cursor management library ii libxext61:1.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous extension librar ii libxfixes3 1:4.0.3-2X11 miscellaneous 'fixes' extensio ii libxi6 2:1.1.3-1X11 Input extension library ii libxinerama11:1.0.2-1X11 Xinerama extension library ii libxml2 2.6.30.dfsg-2GNOME XML library ii libxrandr2

Bug#428186: Not fixed.
This bug is not fixed. You miss the point of soname bumps. The point is so you can have multiple versions of the same library installed. As it is, libguichan2 conflicts with libguichan1 and libguichan0, and libguichan1 conflicts with libguichan0. This breaks every package that depends on libguichan*, every time you upgrade guichan, which is quite frequently. You should design new packages so that they do not conflict with old packages. Your soname bump is incomplete. The package libguichan1 should contain the file /usr/lib/libguichan.so.1, and the packge libguichan2 should contian the file /usr/lib/libguichan.so.2. This is probably why your packages conflict in the first place. I am new to library maintaining too, but I would be happy to help you, if you require assistance. -Brandon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? NOTE: some PHP installations use a bundled version of sqlite without this vulnerability. The SQLite developer has argued that this issue could be due to a misuse of the sqlite_decode_binary() API. I already a a fixed package ready so I am going to 0-day NMU this package to fix this. Bug#427439: emboss: man pages still conflict
Package: emboss Version: 5.0.0-1 Followup-For: Bug #427439 While it's true that emboss's executables no longer conflict with other (current) packages', emboss continues to ship conflicting man pages: $ apt-file search man1/cons.1 cons: usr/share/man/man1/cons.1.gz emboss: usr/share/man/man1/cons.1.gz $ apt-file search man1/pscan.1 emboss: usr/share/man/man1/pscan.1.gz pscan: usr/share/man/man1/pscan.1.gz One trick you can use here is to add a suffix such as emboss to the conflicting man pages' sections; while man will still give priority to the other packages' versions if both are installed, man -a will bring up both versions. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#440333: padevchooser: fails to start
IIRC I ran into this problem several months ago. I had avahi-daemon installed, but it was shutting down itself since it detected that my isp had a .local zone. I asked my ISP to remove this zone but they stated that it was not possible due to all misconfigured windows hosts that where flooding their dns servers with invalid lookups in the .local zone (due to this being the default TLD used for bogus Active Directory domains). (I don't know if avahi still shuts down, but I guess so. I've since switched DNS servers to some that doesn't have a .local zone to make avahi work.) I guess this situation will be quite common and it would be nice if the padevchooser instead of just crashed, displayed a dialog stating that avahi needs to be running. (I personally find it quite annoying when an application just dissapears when I start it via a launcher in the GUI and have to start a terminal to see what happened, others might not even know how to start a terminal and launch the application there...) Consider a proper error dialog when startup isn't possible due to avahi not running a wishlist bug please. :) -- Regards, Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#439277: flac ftbfs (nasm)
zsnes seems to have the same problem as flac, and comment by Christian Henz in bug #439451 suggests this might be a nasm bug: From: Christian Henz [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Latest NASM helps... Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2007 20:28:20 +0200 I had the same problem. Apparently the problem is that nasm mistakes MMX instructions for 64-bit exclusive. I now compiled with latest nasm from CVS, and it worked. cheers, Christian -- Regards, Andreas Henriksson -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#441289: gnucash: FTBFS due to g-wrap transition.
On Sat, 2007-09-08 at 09:52 +0100, Neil Williams wrote: Package: gnucash Version: 2.0.5-1.1 Severity: serious Tags: patch Justification: no longer builds from source debian/rules needs to be tweaked to allow gnucash to use the current version of g-wrap in unstable. Many many thanks for your work tracking this all down Neil. I'm preparing an upload of 2.0.5 now to fix this. The other bug against gnucash related to this is a placeholder keeping track of the g-wrap bug. Perhaps it will be best to close that assuming my upload works? My main priority for today, however, is lilypond, so I may not be able to get to the version upgrade of gnucash until a bit later. Bug#441339: [Debian-ia32-libs] Bug#441339: ia32-libs: use of non fhs-compliant /emul
Hello, and what do you think where should the files go instead? There is no place defined for these files, neither in the policy nor in the FHS. Multiarch seems the only real solution to me, an as you might know, in fact the status quo is transitional until multiarch is realized. I personally have no short time solution for this, other than changing the FHS or the policy to specify where to put these files. Package: libpcre3 Version: 7.3-1 Severity: serious Seen on IRC: [20:24] I just installed debian's experimental version, which is 1.7.12, on a computer that has unstable versions of other packages. gnumeric opened an excel spread sheet OK, but crashed while trying to open a native .gnumeric spread sheet with the following error messages: [20:24] (gnumeric:14904): Gtk-WARNING **: Unknown paper size Letter [20:24] gnumeric: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgoffice-0.5.so.5: undefined symbol: pcre_compile2 [20:24] Advice? [20:48] I fixed it by upgrading the libpcre3 package from version 4.5-1.1 to 7.3-1. And indeed /var/lib/dpkg/info/libpcre3.shlibs contains libpcre 3 libpcre3 (= 4.5) but according to /usr/share/doc/libpcre3/changelog.gz, pcre_compile2 was only added in version 6.0. (NB: If you are a system administrator and have no idea what I am talking about this indicates a serious mail system misconfiguration somewhere. Please contact me immediately.) Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: network-manager Version: 0.6.5-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable I have recently upgraded to network-manager 0.6.5-1 and can no longer access any of my wireless networks. The package control file says Replaces: network-manager-gnome which appears to be a complete falsehood! There is no nm-applet in there at all, which the changelog also states. Unfortunately there is also no nm-applet anywhere else, as far as I can see. Even worse, I can't find any Debian source to build one from. In the interim I have reconstructed the network-manager-gnome 0.6.4-8 package in order to tell it that it's OK to install alongside network-manager (= 0.6.4) and have rebuild network-manager from source to tell it that it *does not* provide network-manager-gnome. Surprisingly, this approach works, and I can once more connect to my wireless networks. This suggests that one reasonable fix would be to release a new network-manager-gnome 0.6.4-9 (or so) which claims to work with network-manager (= 0.6.4-8) and a new network-manager co which doesn't make false claims about providing / conflicting with that. It seems fairly precipitate to have released this package into Sid without having a corresponding network-manager-gnome package to go with it, since the package is effectively useless without the UI required to prompt me for my keyring password. [ Joey Hess ] * Add an editcontent hook. * Support for looking in multiple directories for underlay files. * Plugins can add new directories to the search path with the add_underlay function. * Split out smiley underlay files into a separate underlay, so if the plugin isn't used, the wiki isn't bloated with all those files. * Allow -cgi -wrapper to be passed on the command line to generate a wrapper. * Fix some taint issues with generating wrappers using the command line. * Don't allow newlines in link text in a wikilink. * Tables containing links with a link text were misparsed, because the | in the wikilink looked like a table field separator. Avoid this ambiguity by linkifying the data before parsing it as a table. * Turn on allow_loose_quotes in the table plugin's Text::CSV object, so that links from wikilinks don't confuse the parser. * mercurial: Pass --style default to hg log to ensure right format is used. * mercurial: Fix rcs_getctime (thanks, bma) . [ Josh Triplett ] * Use git-log rather than the shell, git-rev-list, and git-diff-tree. Patch by Jamey Sharp [EMAIL PROTECTED]. * Renames from git-diff-tree aren't handled, so don't ask for them. Patch by Jamey Sharp * Handle operating in sub-trees of a git repository. When looking for git commits that affect the wiki, only include changes that affect the ikiwiki source directory. If that is not the top-level directory in this git repository, strip off the prefix as given by `git-rev-parse --show-prefix` from all names reported by git-log. Patch by Jamey Sharp . [ Joey Hess

Bug#441339: [Debian-ia32-libs] Bug#441339: ia32-libs: use of non fhs-compliant /emul

A little history seems in order. I created the ia32-libs package in late 2001 as a temporary workaround for the lack of multiarch support in dpkg. The thread of discussion I started that culminated in creating ia32-libs can be found here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-dpkg/2001/06/msg7.html In particular, in an email dated 8 June 2001, I wrote: I can easily craft an ia32-libs package for ia64 in the way the TL folks did as a stop-gap solution for getting some ia32 shared libraries installed on the system. That would allow us to defer the question of how to properly install ia32 shared libs on an ia64 system... this package will go stale, but hopefully not too badly before we replace it with a better approach. It never occurred to me then, and continues to amaze me now, that ia32-libs would live beyond the stable release lifetime of woody! I really don't see the point of changing the directory used simply to comply with a policy which has never comprehended multiarch support. The only right answer is to complete some form of multiarch support, and obsolete ia32-libs entirely. Anything else is just helping to preserve an ugly hack by making it seem more acceptable. I'm downgrading the severity of this bug and tagging it wontfix. If you *really* want to file a release-critical bug about this somewhere, file it instead against dpkg for lack of multiarch support sufficient to allow obsoleting ia32-libs ... Bug#427439: [Pkg-emboss-devel] Bug#427439: emboss: man pages still conflict
Le Sat, Sep 08, 2007 at 11:32:54AM -0400, Aaron M. Ucko a écrit : One trick you can use here is to add a suffix such as emboss to the conflicting man pages' sections; while man will still give priority to the other packages' versions if both are installed, man -a will bring up both versions. Dear Aaron, many thanks for noticing this. Do you think that it would be acceptable to add the suffix to all emboss manpages? This would solve the problem whichever conflict would appear in future versions. Many commands in EMBOSS have quite common names... Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: gnome-vfs2 Version: 1:2.18.1-3 Severity: serious Justification: FTBFS The package FTFBS as it build-depends on linux-kernel-headers (= 2.6.13)| not+linux-gnu which doesn't exist anymore in unstable.
