Lucas,

Thanks, but your report is a dup of #453361 and #453692 that was fixed last
night with the upload of 2.7.10-4 and was caused by a change in behaviour of
dpkg-shlibs.

Bug#453804: stellarium: segfaults on startup

2007-12-01 Thread Ramakrishnan Muthukrishnan
Package: stellarium
Version: 0.9.0-1+b1
Severity: grave

Hi,

I installed stellarium on my Debian box (details below) and invoked it
from commandline inside gnome-terminal. The splash screen came up with
a progress bar and after the progress bar hit the end, it segfaulted.
Here is the info printed on gnome-terminal.

I have tagged it as grave because the package is unusable. It segfaults
at startup itself.

This is actually a bug in MSIE, see CVE-2006-5152. Sid and lenny have
the workaround, but there is currently no plan to backport it to
sarge and etch (as it is of low impact).

Besides switching directory indexes of, setting AddDefaultCharset also
protects from the issue. AddDefaultCharset is on in the default
configurations in sarge and etch.

Cheers,

Bug#453806: adeos: should this package be removed?

2007-12-01 Thread Filippo Giunchedi
Package: adeos
Version: 20060329-1
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a possible
candidate for removal from Debian, because:

 * last maintainer upload long ago
 * superseded RTAI-wise and kernel-wise (see #378967)

If you think that it should be orphaned instead of being removed from
Debian, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree, sending the following commands to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should do it (after replacing nn with this bug's number):
severity nn normal
reassign nn ftp.debian.org
retitle nn RM: packagename -- RoM; reasons
thanks

For more information, see
http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals
http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
just close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other
issues.

Thank you,

filippo

This is fixed in our svn, for version 4.4.2-1. We won't upload it before
it's released officially upstream, but it'll be there RSN.

Bug#453756: git-core should depend on curl

This is not justified at all (I don't even think it's a bug at all) - see
below...

I've installed git-core and tried to clone a repository

   yyy$ git clone xxx
Initialized empty Git repository in /yyy/xxx
/usr/bin/git-clone: line 37: curl: command not found

You've skipped the important part in xxx - you're accessing a repository
using the HTTP protocol - which requires curl. However, there are a lot of
other possible ways to access repositories (e.g. git://, ssh://) which do not
require curl. So there is no strict requirement for any Git user to install
curl - that's why curl is only recommended by git-core rather than required.

A recommendation is defined as a package that would be found together with
this one in all but unusual installations, which imho is exactly the case for
curl here. If you do not install recommended packages automatically, you
should have a look at the documentation if something fails.

 Versions of packages git-core recommends:
pn curl none (no description available)
[...]

Hi Alexander,

By defaults mailman creates /var/log/mailman readable by everyone. But
some private information (at least subscribers list) may go there. So it
should be created with rwxrws--- permitions. It's not very critical, but
I think should be fixed even in etch (may be not now, but with other
issues if there will be any).

Thank you for the report. I agree that it would better not be publically
readable.

However, I think the impact is quite low. There are no complete subscriber
lists, just the most recent subscriptions to lists; and the eavesdropper
needs to be a local user. Local users can already often deduce information
about who receives mail to a list, e.g. by using mailq.

But indeed, I've fixed it for the next package release. I will not update
sarge/etch however.

thanks,
Thijs

Bug#446236: lha doesn't work with recent glibc upgrade in testing

2007-12-01 Thread Philipp Kern
On Thu, Oct 11, 2007 at 02:38:15PM +0400, Sergey Lapin wrote:
That's due to mkstemp call and O_EXCL in subsequent open of the same file.
I workaround this by removing O_EXCL, but I think it is either some
problem in glibc or code in lha needs to be reworked.

I fixed it by not using O_EXCL when mkstemp was used previously to
create the file. The other code paths looked differently so I still use
O_EXCL there in the hope that it does not break.

A proper fix would take the fd returned by mkstemp, but that would
require more intrusive code changes.

NMU patch is attached.

Kind regards
Philipp Kern

Bug#448139: cfagent crashes with a segmentation fault when 31+ arguments are supplied

2007-12-01 Thread Mark Burgess

Patch applied to correct the problem as reported.

Iain Patterson wrote:
 Quoth Mark Burgess,

This is probably true, but the case cited in the mail is not a
limitation of cfengine but the argument getopt code in the
operating system concerned. It is normal that Unix limits to 31
args, and internally cfengine does the same for consistency.

I tried compiling the getopt example code at
 http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/Getopt.html and
didn't get a segfault with 31 arguments on Linux x86_64.

cfagent 2.2.1 on the same OS did indeed segfault with 31 arguments.

The conclusion is that, while I agree there should be no segfault,
I am not sure what I can do about it, since there is no code in
cfengine that lead to this fault.

It seems the bug is in the code which preparses arguments. Line 253
of cfagent.c (at least in version 2.2.1) describes the case where a
script is called with the shell magic

 #!/bla/cfengine -v -f

and this ends up being passed in argv[1] as a single string. cfagent
then parses this into an array of size CF_MAXARGS, which is 31 as you
 state.

The attached quick and very dirty patch does the preparse in two
stages, first allocating a dynamic buffer big enough for the arguments
and then filling it in as before.

An alternative option (if you excuse the pun) would be to use popt,
which has the function poptParseArgvString(). The downside is that
 this is an added dependency.

That's due to mkstemp call and O_EXCL in subsequent open of the same file.
I workaround this by removing O_EXCL, but I think it is either some
problem in glibc or code in lha needs to be reworked.

Bug#439450: Siproxd libosip2-3.0.1

2007-12-01 Thread Mark Purcell
http://siproxd.sourceforge.net/

Siproxd libosip2-3.0.1
19-Nov-2006
This new major release of libosip2 has some basic changes in its data
structures. This causes compiling siproxd with this release of libosip2 to
fail. For now it is recommended to stick with a 2.x.x version of libosip2,
like 2.2.2, the latest version of that major release.

 Hi,

currently python-numpy depends on python-numpy-dev. As the latter is not
needed unless you want to build numpy extensions, the dependency should
 be the other way round.

Dear Josselin,

Please have a look at #413160 and tell me if yoru bug is still
relevant. While I understand that this sort of dependency ordering
beats logic, the maintainers have decided this for the reasons
mentioned there.

If you still feel this is a bug, myself and Ondrej will try to figure
out a way to resolve this and discuss it with the maintainers.

Thanks!

I think it's definitely a bug. Either there should be no
python-numpy-dev package, or
there can be one, but definitely python-numpy shouldn't depend on
python-numpy-dev.

Let's figure out how to fix it.

Ondrej

Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.0-2
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

After upgrading to this version I noticed that GDM was failing to restart. The
culprit was a configuration line in the servers section of gdm.conf. The
previous version of gdmsetup had created the following entry:
0=Standard -layout \Single LVDS\

However, the latest version of GDM was choking on the space. Removing the
backslashes before the quotes solved the issue.

I set the severity to important because this breaks perfectly working setups
created with the bundled configuration utility. The manual fix is trivial,
though.

I don't know whether the latest version of gdmsetup writes the backslashes or
not.

Bug#453865: debian/copyright: poppler is GPLv2 only

2007-12-01 Thread Tim Retout
Package: poppler
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 4.5

There are no licence notices with most of the file headers; the only
licence statement is in README-XPDF, which specifies version 2 of the
GPL. This same text is on the xpdf website.

This does not match the debian/copyright details, which says version 2
or later, and points to 'GPL' rather than 'GPL-2' in common-licenses.

The fastest diagnosis I can provide is that a required library is missing.
Also, it is important to remember that Sid is not a stable release. You'll
have to investigate more and acquire the right libraries.

Good luck,

Bug#453862: Wrong mounting devpts

2007-12-01 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.174
Severity: critical

This is critical as the whole system security may be affected.

pbuilder uses the following command to mount devpts:
 mount -t devpts /dev/pts $BUILDPLACE/dev/pts

A consultation of the mount man page:
 Mount options for devpts
The devpts file system is a pseudo file system, traditionally
mounted on /dev/pts. In order to acquire a pseudo terminal, a
process opens /dev/ptmx; the number of the pseudo terminal is
then made available to the process and the pseudo terminal slave
can be accessed as /dev/pts/number.

uid=value and gid=value This sets the owner or the group of
newly created PTYs to the specified values. When nothing
is specified, they will be set to the UID and GID of the
creating process. For example, if there is a tty group
with GID 5, then gid=5 will cause newly created PTYs to
   belong to the tty group.

mode=value Set the mode of newly created PTYs to the specified
value. The default is 0600. A value of mode=620 and
gid=5 makes mesg y the default on newly created
   PTYs.

This is wrong (and another bug of the mount package). The default for
the gid is 0 which will end in a explicit of 43(utmp) for xterms which
are setgid 43 or whatever the group of the process is.

So if using the default USEDEVPTS=yes the /dev/pts inside the chroot
will be mounted with no gid setting. As the kernel share for the devpts
fs is shared between all devpts the gid setting of
/etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh gets reseted.

End of the game is that after using pbuilder the devpts has the wrong
mount options.

So please use the same settings than /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh for
mounting the devpts inside the chroot. (By the way, /proc/mounts don't
show the gid setting.)

Bug#453876: postman: should this package be orphaned?

2007-12-01 Thread Filippo Giunchedi
Package: postman
Version: 2.1-2
Severity: serious
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertags: proposed-orphan

Hi,

While reviewing some packages, your package came up as a package that
should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:

 * long standing RC bugs
 * last upload on 2006-05-12

If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being
orphaned, please reply to this bug and tell so.

If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] should do it (after replacing nn with
this bug's number):

severity nn normal
reassign nn wnpp
retitle nn O: packagename -- short package description
thanks

For more information, see
http://www.debian.org/doc/developers-reference/ch-pkgs.en.html#s-archive-manip
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please
close this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.

Thank you,

filippo

10:05:08 lucas the other affected package is xfree86-driver-synaptics
10:05:26 jcristau that's a bug in wacom-tools, it should be using pkg-config
 --cflags xorg-server to get -I/usr/include/pixman-1

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot containing a sid i386
environment. Internet was not accessible from the build systems.

Bug#453885: dpkg-shlibdeps changes can't track symlinks (/usr/lib, /usr/lib64)

2007-12-01 Thread Matthias Klose
Package: dpkg-dev
Severity: serious
Version: 1.14.12

The gcj-4.X packages fail to build with this version of dpkg:

dpkg-shlibdeps: failure: no dependency information found for
/usr/lib64/libgcj_bc.so.1 (used by
debian/gcj-4.3/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.3/ecj1).
dh_shlibdeps: command returned error code 512

$ cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/libgcj-bc.shlibs
libgcj_bc 1 libgcj-bc (= 4.2.1-1)

I don't see any extra value to make a difference between /usr/lib64
and /usr/lib on amd64 and ppc64.

Hi,

for lenny it would be very appriciated if the number of versions of Zope
can be reduced to a minimum. This makes security support for this
package much more easyly.

Greetings
Martin

quodlibet no longer starts after upgrading python-gst0.10. It fails with
 lots of errors like this:
 Traceback (most recent call last):
   File /usr/share/quodlibet/formats/__init__.py, line 22, in ?
 try: format = __import__(name, {}, {}, self)
   File /usr/share/quodlibet/formats/xiph.py, line 131, in ?
 if gst.registry_get_default().find_plugin(plugin) is not None:
AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'registry_get_default'

After upgrading, this happens to me if I have python-gst0.10 and
python-gst both installed.

$ python
 import pygst
 pygst.require(0.10)
 import gst
 gst.gst_version
(0, 8, 12)

I don't know who broke what when, but this is not a bug in Quod Libet. A
temporary fix is to remove the python-gst (which is for 0.8) package.

Bug#453900: libvirt: malformed Standards-Version control header

2007-12-01 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: libvirt
Version: 0.3.3-3
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 5.6.11

This package has a multiline value for its Standards-Version control
header. It looks like part of the extended description of one of the
packages was appended to the Standards-Version part of the source
stanza.

I noticed this when it broke lintian.debian.org in odd ways (which I'm
fixing now).

Bug#450549: Segmentation fault in kxsldbg

2007-12-01 Thread Keith Isdale
Hi,

I am the author of kxsldbg I was prompted by Sune Vuorel to have a look at
this bug.

I use the testdocs.* files in the source (as suggested in the manual).

I tried to reproduce this behavior using the kxsldbg in the
kdewebdev-3.5.8.tar.bz2 running against KDE 3.5.5 but did not have any
problem.

The backtrace provided seems to indicate that an XPATH value was being
watched, if that is the case what XPATH was that?

Having bit more detail in steps to reproduce would be good as I might be
doing something slightly differently.
