Bug#525955: udev: udevsettle disappears : breaks cryptsetup

2009-04-28 Thread Erwan David
Package: udev
Version: 0.141-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

in udev 0.141-1 udevsettle does not exists. This breaks cryptsetup
which uses it, making boot fail when using an encrypted disk.

(PS : I downgraded back to 0.125-7+lenny1 in order to get a working
setup).

Bug#522177: pulseaudio: no audio after an upgrade

2009-04-28 Thread davide
On Sun, Apr 26, 2009 at 9:08 AM, Julien Valroff jul...@kirya.net wrote:
 Le vendredi 24 avril 2009 à 23:32 +0200, davide a écrit :

I tried version from sid (0.9.15) of pulseaudio, but none works.
I have some clip and strange sound but no music.
Totem player works with any problem, it just appears as muted.

It works for me but I need to not load the module-*-restore modules.

Try and commenting the following lines in your /etc/pulse/default.pa:
 #load-module module-device-restore
 #load-module module-stream-restore
 #load-module module-card-restore

When loading these modules, the master volume is at 0% and the channel
is muted after booting, but even after unmuting the channel and set it
at a standard volume level, I cannot hear any sound (I have checked
other channels but it seems all are ok).

Without these modules, everything works BUT the master volume is always
set at 100% after booting, which is not what I want.

 Cheers,
 Julien

It still does not work for me.
It's very annoying to have a mute system but the audio card is
working, I can hear the static noise with max volume.
I've upgraded pulseaudio to the sid version.

A very similar problem has just been reported on the ArgyllCMS

And another one got the reply at [1]. The upstream author believes the
bug comes from the recent security patches applied on icclib. I'll see
if he has an updated patch.

Bug#523345: gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad: Confirmed Pidgin crash

2009-04-28 Thread Ivan Vilata i Balaguer
Sebastian Dröge (el 2009-04-27 a les 11:00:34 +0200) va dir::

This seems to be more related to another issue. Do you have, by any
chance, gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg installed and the libavcodec52/etc packages
from Debian Multimedia or another third party repository?

No, I don't have any of those installed, and I'm using the official Debian
repos.

Otherwise, please run pidgin from a terminal and paste the output into
this bug. strace/ltrace would be useless but a backtrace with gdb or a
 valgrind log would be useful.

Here is the output of Pidgin::

  $ LANG=C pidgin
Pidgin 2.5.5 has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file.
This is a bug in the software and has happened through
  no fault of your own.

If you can reproduce the crash, please notify the developers
  by reporting a bug at:
  http://developer.pidgin.im/simpleticket/

Please make sure to specify what you were doing at the time
and post the backtrace from the core file. If you do not know
how to get the backtrace, please read the instructions at

  Avortat (core dumped)

Here is the GDB backtrace output on the core file produced by Pidgin (with
debugging symbols, i.e. pidgin-dbg, libxml2-dbg, libglib2.0-0-dbg)::

Bug#525598: #525598: [exaile] Shipped python-feedparser removal breaks exaile

2009-04-28 Thread Adam Cécile (Le_Vert)

Hello,

Thanks a lot for looking at this bug. I missed it because I had exaile
installed before the dh_python path changed...

I'm working on a fix and will upload it soon.
I guess your first patch was the right way. Drop that stupid symlink and
rely on python to load the module !

Best regards, Adam.

 See #525518.

Shouldn't there be a Conflicts or Breaks in udev against older
cryptsetup versions? The current versions of cryptsetup and udev in
squeeze suggest that there will be more such reports. :-(

Hello all.

Thanks for your report about the current segfault in Debian. I've asked
the libcrypto++ maintiner to help with the issue, since the crash seems
to happen in libcrypto++ code, and he's taking a look at the issue. I'll
keep you updated about any progress.

Severity: serious
Package: argyll
Version: 1.0.3-5
User: debian-rele...@lists.debian.org

Hi!

This source package contains the following files from the IETF under
non-free license terms:

  Argyll_V1.0.3/jcnf/yajl/rfc4627.txt

The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see:
 * http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The lenny/squeeze release policy says binary and source packages must
each be free:
 * http://release.debian.org/lenny/rc_policy.txt
 * http://release.debian.org/squeeze/rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#525985: Uninstallable due to broken check for running instances

2009-04-28 Thread Ben Hutchings
Package: evolution
Version: 2.26.1.1-1
Severity: grave

The preinst script checks for running instances using:

ps ax | egrep -q 'evolution( .*)?$'

This will catch commands such as, er, apt-get install evolution.
Instead, you should use ps -C evolution or pgrep evolution.

Ben.

Package: libcompizconfig0
Version: 0.8.2-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

The version of libcompizconfig0 (amd64) in sid is currently
uninstallable. It has a dependency on libprotobuf2, which has been
replaced by libprotobuf3.

The other architectures will be fine (I think) once they compile since
they'll pull in the newer package. The amd64 version compiled 1 or 2
days too early.

A straight recompile should fix the issue as libprotobuf-dev will pull
in the newer version.

TIA

Not a bug in the package then. Closing.

Bug#526003: conduit: Conduit segfault on startup or when configuring it

2009-04-28 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
Package: conduit
Version: 0.3.15-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Starting conduit lead to a segfault. I moved .config/conduit/ away and it
started but it would simply crash further for example when clicking on
the Show me button at the bottom.

Why is this working at all...?

Oh it seems, modules assistant is setting VERSION, and making things
 work somehow. Interesting.

 How are you building?

Bug#518031: Intent to NMU

2009-04-28 Thread Margarita Manterola
Hi!

I've applied the patch and verified the fix with a testcase. I'll be
uploading this patched version as an NMU.

I'm attaching the interdiff of the changes made. It's just the patch, the
changelog, and the line in debian/rules that includes the patch.

By the way, the package uses a very convulted way of applying the patches,
which took me a while to figure out. It'd be nice if it used some more
standard way.

Grüße.

 Do not use it then.
Your version of multipath-tools is obsolete.

Can udev please add Breaks to prevent broken package combinations? In
this and the cryptsetup case, fixed versions are available, so this
should be easy...

Bug#525516: s/SYSFS/ATTR/g worked for me

2009-04-28 Thread Jamie McClelland
Thanks for the suggested fix.

I had the same problem described in this bug (interfaces not being
properly renamed). I did the following:

 * replaced SYSFS with ATTR in my existing 0-persistent-net.rules file
 * commented out the newly added lines
 * rebooted

My two relevent (working) lines are:

# PCI device 8086:4220 (ipw2200)
ACTION==add, SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*,
ATTR{address}==00:12:f0:36:e9:6c, NAME=wireless

# PCI device 14e4:170c (b44)
ACTION==add, SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*,
ATTR{address}==00:0f:1f:b2:b4:a7, NAME=cable

And now the interfaces are properly named.

Roland Mas, 2009-04-27 16:05:22 +0200 :

Are you sure the repositories aren't created after at least an hour?
If so, could you run the following command and report any errors?

I just did a fresh installation on a Lenny system, and the repository
is indeed created with no manual intervention. However, due to how the
scripts work and how the crontabs are organised, it can take from
fifteen minutes to an hour and fifteen minutes before that happens.

Please confirm that your repositories really aren't created after that
period of time.

Since the update of compizconfig-settings-manager to 0.8.2-1 I can't use

work but the buttons leading to further options right next to the

clicking on a button I see this traceback:

Well that's the problem then. So far it was only tested and setup to
work with module-assistant and linux-modules-2.6-nonfree.

What arguments/environment do you pass along to binary_modules? It was
never meant to be used without arguments after all.

Now making the makefile figure out the version if it isn't specified
should certainly be possible. I will try to do that along with a few
other small fixes.

Hi,

automatic installation tests of packages that share a file and at the
same time do not conflict by their package dependency relationships has
detected the following problem:

This is a serious bug as it makes installation fail. Possible
solutions are to have the two packages conflict, to rename the common
file in one of the two packages, or to remove the file from one
package and have this package depend on the other package. File
diversions or a Replace relation are another possibility.

What arguments/environment do you pass along to binary_modules? It was

I'm guessing a VERSION variable needs to be set, but I haven't looked

Yes, but conditionally, since module-assistant and linux-modules-nonfree
both already set it for us and want it done their way.

Package: ggcov
Version: 0.8-7

Closing this bug as it is not reproducible.
ggcov depends on binutils, which contains libbfd. ggcov now uses the
latest binutils :

coll:ggcov-0.8$ ldd /usr/bin/ggcov | grep bfd
libbfd-2.19.1.so = /usr/lib/libbfd-2.19.1.so (0xb72f8000)
coll:ggcov-0.8$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libbfd-2.19.1.so
binutils: /usr/lib/libbfd-2.19.1.so

Although it works with previous binutils. This must have been a local
issue.

Hi Daniel,

We have talked in pvt. You can make an ITP to generate a new FireGPG package in
Debian. The Debian Community needs of this package and I can't maintain it now.
I am temporally unavailable because of some problems.

Thanks for your consideration.

Best regards,

Bug#522991: freeradius_2.0.4+dfsg-6+b1(mips/unstable): FTBFS on mips

2009-04-28 Thread peter green
I've done some flyby inspection of this bug and come to the following
conclusions.

* The freeradius build has a check for links with anything in a libssl*
package BUT this check only detects direct links.
* Freeradius normally ends up with an indirect link to libcrypto (from
the libssl* package) via libsnmp. On the failing mips build a buggy
libtool version was used which I suspect (I can't confirm this due to
being unable to get a copy of the version of libtool in question) meant
it ended with a direct link to libcrypto causing the build to abort.
* My understaning is (and I may be wrong) the debian interpretation of
the GPL is that any link with openssl whether direct or indirect is
unacceptable unless a specific exception is granted by the authors of
all GPL code in or linked to by the binary.

P.S. the debian/copyright file could do with a bit of clarification, it
states the code is released under GPL v2 and then pastes a license block
that says v2 or later.

Bug#526041: clamav: CVE-2008-5525 malware detection bypass

2009-04-28 Thread Michael S. Gilbert
Package: clamav
Severity: grave
Tags: security

Hi,

The following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities Exposures) ids were
published for clamav.

CVE-2008-5525[0]:
| ClamAV 0.94.1 and possibly 0.93.1, when Internet Explorer 6 or 7 is
| used, allows remote attackers to bypass detection of malware in an
| HTML document by placing an MZ header (aka EXE info) at the
| beginning, and modifying the filename to have (1) no extension, (2) a
| .txt extension, or (3) a .jpg extension, as demonstrated by a document
| containing a CVE-2006-5745 exploit.

Please coordinate with the security team (t...@security.debian.org) to
prepare packages for the stable releases.

If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the
CVE ids in your changelog entry.

No, since you can use module assistant, or you can have it built using
linux-modules-2.6-nonfree (just as soon as we get it enabled in that).
It doesn't require module-assistant, but it does work with it if you
choose to use it.

I do plan to make it work with make-kpkg again soon (which I
unfortunately broke as part of making it work with 2.6.29 and
linux-modules-2.6-nonfree).

What arguments/environment do you pass along to binary_modules? It
was never meant to be used without arguments after all.
 KSRC=/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.26-2-amd64
 KVERS=2.6.26-2-amd64

Well if you passed along a VERSION= as well, it would probably work.

Something like:
VERSION=180.44-2+2.6.29-3

That would match what module-assistant is setting it to. That is whatever
the version of the nvidia package is plus whatever the version of the
kernel headers package is.

Bug#522991: freeradius_2.0.4+dfsg-6+b1(mips/unstable): FTBFS on mips

2009-04-28 Thread Stephen Gran
This one time, at band camp, peter green said:
I've done some flyby inspection of this bug and come to the following
 conclusions.

 * The freeradius build has a check for links with anything in a libssl*
package BUT this check only detects direct links.

Yes, I am (after a conversation with an ftp-master) taking the stance
that multi-level transitive links both can't be reliably checked for,
and are also not that big an issue. For many libraries in Debian, we
ship a version linked to openssl and a version linked to gnutls - if a
local admin installs the openssl one of these 3 removes away, there's not
much we as packagers can do, so I'm not that worried about it.

On the other hand, if we declare a direct relationship between 2 pieces
of software that have conflicting licenses, we do have a clear problem.
That's why the check is there - I admit it's a bit of a gross hack, but
in this case, I'm glad it's there, as it's saved us from accidentally
distributing something that's clearly a GPL violation in the current
arrangement.

That was my first rough impression. Glad to have a second pair of eyes
on it, though.

 * My understaning is (and I may be wrong) the debian interpretation of
the GPL is that any link with openssl whether direct or indirect is
unacceptable unless a specific exception is granted by the authors of
all GPL code in or linked to by the binary.

This is the stance the project has so far taken, yes. There is work
underway in the freeradius project to add that excemption, and then this
can go away for at least this codebase.

P.S. the debian/copyright file could do with a bit of clarification, it
states the code is released under GPL v2 and then pastes a license block
 that says v2 or later.

Agreed.

Cheers,

dh_haskell_shlibdeps gets library name from library-dirname. But its rule
is not sufficient. For example, foo-bar-0.1's library name should be
foo-bar, but is foo. My patch file fixes that.

so it is far from the current state I bet

THANKS.txt lists contributors without describing either they contributed
and transfered a copyright or they reserved (kept) the copyright. According to
the code -- copyright still belongs to plenty of contributors. just run

dpkg -L python-scipy | xargs grep -i copyright | grep -v Entho

to see what I am talking about

The proper solution is to list all the copyright holders (with proper
terms/years) within the copyright file.

Sorry for being pedantic

Bug#525516: udev: eth0 stopped working - renamed to eth3 (driver: e100)

2009-04-28 Thread Antonio Fiol

Hi Marco,

Sorry for the delay in my response. I tried s/ATTR/SYSFS/ on my eth0
rule, removing the new one, and it worked perfectly at next reboot (as
expected).

I left the rules for the other devices unchanged so I can verify that
the SYSFS-ATTR change is correctly performed on next upgrade. Anyway, I
do not use those devices anymore.

Wondering if the solution would be that simple... What would happen if a
new rule had already been generated, and it is not removed as I did
myself? Which one would get matched? The old one or the new one?

Kind regards,

Antonio Fiol

ATTR and an added ATTR{type}==1). If I understand this correctly, the
missing ATTR{type} would match any ATTR{tpye} so it's not that. Then
it must be that udev stopped understanding the SYSFS syntax ??

Interesting, SYSFS{} is supposed to be still supported.
Please check if rules like this work or not (remove the new ones):

ACTION==add, SUBSYSTEM==net, DRIVERS==?*, ATTR{address}==00:0f:ea:3e:40:84,
NAME=eth0

s/SYSFS/ATTR/g in the user-generated rules files looks like a good idea
anyway, I need to write some code to do it.

Also it might be related to the upstream change from from v135 to v136:
require non-SYSFS_DEPRECATED 2.6.20+ kernel. Since v129 (which I never

It is not.
