so unpatched. do you think timer.diff can fix anything here?

Uhm no. After seeing the GDB backtrace I don't think it's a glibc problem.

so maybe pthread() is only in that X backtrace thing but not actually
involved, also I think there are no debug symbols for vesa. I'll try get
back to compile a nostrip version of it tomorrow.

Maybe also install xserver-xorg-core-dbg.

I looked at the latest source for Heimdal (1.5.2) that is available. This

The version in debian is:

heimdal 1.6~git20120311.dfsg.1-2

Bug#669079: [Pkg-ime-devel] Bug#669079: [libchewing] dbg package not usable when --enable-debug gets removed during build

2012-04-17 Thread KanRu Chen
Aron Xu happyaron...@gmail.com writes:

 Package: src:libchewing
 Version: 0.3.3-4
 Severity: grave

Hi, I'm blocking 0.3.3-4's migration to testing, because the changes
of removing --enable-debug will make libchewing3-dbg package not
usable. dh_strip can strip out debugging symbols to -dbg package so
there is no risk of leaking private data if the library is written
properly. If the debug symbols cannot be stripped correctly, then
please either remove the -dbg package or build the source twice with
 different flags.

Note that I've add an -g to CFLAGS so there will be correct debug
information attached.

--enable-debug, though it's name might be confusing, is really only for
developer for debugging purpose. It will write logs to /tmp thus leaking
private data and shouldn't be enabled by default.

Please close this bug if you agree.

Cheers,

Is this new? What's the version of libpciaccess?

Bug#658252: Info received ([libcairo2] firefox/pidgin very bad text rendering)

2012-04-17 Thread Török Edwin
Seems to be fixed by xserver-xorg-video-radeon 6.14.4-2 which contains the
fixes from https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47266

Would probably be a good idea to add a requirement to libcairo 1.12.0-2:
Breaks: xserver-xorg-video-radeon ( 6.14.4-2), xserver-xorg-video-ati (
6.14.4-2)

Bug#625834: nxml interferes with psgml's `xml-mode\' autoload

2012-04-17 Thread Nicolas Quiniou
Hi,

I have the same issue when I try to open an XML file with Emacs.
nxml-mode is loaded by default even if I add the following line in my
~/.emacs file :

(autoload 'xml-mode psgml Major mode to edit XML files. t)

When I try M-x xml-mode on the buffer, nothing change. My solution is to
use :
- M-x sgml-mode
- C-x k
- C-x f my_file

After that, psgml-mode works.

Do you think you can fix this bug ?

Regards,

Hi,

During a rebuild of all packages in sid, your package failed to build on
amd64.

This rebuild was done by building only architecture:any binary packages
(binary-arch target of debian/rules), and using a recent dpkg that uses the
build-arch target if available.
Also, only the Build-Depends were installed, not the Build-Depends-Indep.

Bug#477751: tackling this bug

2012-04-17 Thread Joey Hess
Helmut Grohne wrote:
In the unlikely event that the admin called it, it would detect that

An admin could call update-catalog --transition for a package that was
not rebuilt with the newer debhelper. In that case harm would still
happen. Do you have an idea about how to prevent this?

Since this is deleting possibly modified config files on upgrade anyway,
this doesn't seem worth worrying about.

  I do not see any complexity in a versioned dependency;
  dh_installcatalogs already adds one.

It must be a Pre-Depends, since we are using it in preinst.

Ok, that's annoying as each package would need misc:PreDepends added.

In that case, maybe this should be left in debhelper. I am pretty
uncomfortable with it though, especially since it does delete config
files.

About the archive rebuild: The rebuild was done on about 50 AMD64 nodes
of the Grid'5000 platform, using a clean chroot. Internet was not
accessible from the build systems.

Since this is deleting possibly modified config files on upgrade anyway,
this doesn't seem worth worrying about.

Thinking about it we could check the state of the package being
transitioned. If an admin calls --transition that would most likely be
ii. If preinst calls it, I guess it would be iF or at least not
ii.

Ok, that's annoying as each package would need misc:PreDepends added.

In that case, maybe this should be left in debhelper. I am pretty
uncomfortable with it though, especially since it does delete config
 files.

So we seem to agree that both solutions (present vs. adding --transition
to sgml-base) are doable and both have their own problems. Are you still
interested in pushing the transitional code to sgml-base? Your arguments
have convinced me that it could work. I have not yet updated the patch
to do that, so please tell me whether you want that change (at least for
evaluation).

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package fails to upgrade from
'testing'.
It installed fine in 'testing', then the upgrade to 'sid' fails
because it tries to overwrite other packages files without declaring a
replaces relation.

See policy 7.6 at

If you want to be extremly formally correct, then yes. But given
that ABI breaks happen often (that is, once or twice per release
cycle), this would likely end up in lots of reassigning and make
version tracking in the BTS not really work.

And I guess David did not even consider this, but just used
'apt' as he's used to it (since the library split just happened
in 0.9).

Hi,

In this case we'd look at a bug in dblatex generating invalid TeX

Yah.. that is a good point. dblatex creates for German:

 \usepackage[ngerman]{babel}

This babel does not exist for English ... I hear about polyglossia. This is
 something dblatex have to adjust.

... or better: could adjust.

  2. The french.ldf file is broken, report it to upstream.
Ulrike said the disadvantage of using polyglossia would be less
 translated strings in that package.

I'd vote for reporting against babel (as all other languages seem to
work), but I don't expect a fast solution.

I see. But I do not know how.

I contacted the author of frenchb.ldf. He confirmed the bug, but
said that he's travelling in the moment, so we should not expect a
fast solution.

Bug is reassigned to texlive-base: it contains the french ldf file.

Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
An update.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I just updated.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
Even after restarting courier-imap courier-authdaemon I can't connect anymore
to courier-imap.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Being able to conect and send/receive emails after update, as it always worked
out of the box.

Bug#669146: courier-imap: Since last update (20' ago) I can't connect anymore

Dear Maintainer,

* What led up to the situation?
An update.

* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
  ineffective)?
I just updated.

* What was the outcome of this action?
Even after restarting courier-imap courier-authdaemon I can't connect anymore
to courier-imap.

* What outcome did you expect instead?
Being able to conect and send/receive emails after update, as it always worked
out of the box.

Please check your logfiles for messages (mail.log, messages). Are the daemons
running (ps aux | grep courier)?

Regards
 Racke

Bug#669158: TYPO3-CORE-SA-2012-002: Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability in TYPO3 Core

2012-04-17 Thread Christian Welzel
Package: typo3-src
Severity: critical
Tags: security

Component Type: TYPO3 Core

Affected Versions: 4.4.0 up to 4.4.14, 4.5.0 up to 4.5.14, 4.6.0 up to
4.6.7 and development releases of the 4.7 branch.
Vulnerable subcomponent: Exception Handler

Vulnerability Type: Cross-Site Scripting
Severity: Medium
Suggested CVSS v2.0: AV:N/AC:L/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:N/E:F/RL:OF/RC:C

Problem Description: Failing to properly encode the output, the default
TYPO3 Exception Handler is susceptible to Cross-Site Scripting.
We are not aware of a possibilty to exploit this vulnerability without
third party extensions being installed that put user input in exception
messages.
However it has come to our attention that extensions using the extbase
MVC framework can be used to exploit this vulnerability if these
extensions accept objects in controller actions.
In general and especially when in doubt if the above conditions are met,
we highly recommend users of affected versions to update as soon as
possible.

Imortant Note: In case you have configured your own exception handler
for TYPO3 you need to make sure that the exception messages are properly
encoded within this exception handler before they are presented.

This appears to be Sparc only, right? We do had trouble with
alignments in the hashsum calculations in the past, maybe that is
re-occuring with the addition of sha512.

I've only seen it on sparc, but I didn't try this on many arches.

I've been trying to reproduce this, and it seems to happen after
the first write() call that writes the file in
/var/cache/apt/archives/.

That's just 128 MiB. I've increased it to 3 GiB on my amd64
workstation, and now I can build cmor (just binNMUed it btw).

For the amd64 buildds, you can put something like at the end of
/etc/grub.d/00_header:

echo set kFreeBSD.kern.dfldsiz=3072M

and re-run update-grub.

Be careful if you decide to raise it on i386. I'm not sure what
effect could this have on available virtual memory.

Bug#669172: libc6: preinst fails in -28 and since then also in -27

2012-04-17 Thread Axel Beckert
Source: libc6
Version: 2.13-28
Severity: grave

Upgrading libc6 from 2.13-27 to 2.13-28 failed for me on amd64 as follows:

Preparing to replace libc6:amd64 2.13-27 (using libc6_2.13-28_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing libc6_2.13-28_amd64.deb (--install):
subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 2

Downgrading failed with the same error message and now even reinstalling
2.13-27 fails:

Preparing to replace libc6:amd64 2.13-27 (using libc6_2.13-27_amd64.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing libc6_2.13-27_amd64.deb (--install):
subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 2

It worked fine for me on i386 on another box, but there were reports
from others on #debian-devel that it worked fine for them on amd64 or
failed for them on both.

Package: sword
Version: 1.6.2+dfsg-1
Severity: important
Tags: sid wheezy
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: ftbfs-gcc-4.7

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-4.7/g++-4.7, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.6/g++-4.6. The
severity of this report may be raised before the wheezy release.

multimapwdef.h:22:3: error: 'find' was not declared in this scope, and no
declarations were found by argument-dependent lookup at the point of
instantiation [-fpermissive]

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~lucas/logs/2012/03/29-clang-gcc47/unstable-gcc47/sword_1.6.2+dfsg-1_unstable-gcc47.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

Some hints on fixing these issues can be found at
http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.7/porting_to.html

To build with GCC 4.7, either set CC=gcc-4.7 CXX=g++-4.7 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

Bug#669172: libc6: preinst fails in -28 and since then also in -27

2012-04-17 Thread Adam Conrad
The reason this fails in -27 as well as -28 is because it has
nothing to do with -28, it just got triggered for people by a
new eglibc upload, period.

The real bug here is that dpkg has decided that referring to
multi-arch:same packages without the :arch suffix is bad, wrong
and evil, and eglibc sprinkles dpkg -L LIBC and such all
over its maintainer scripts without adding an :arch qualifier.

I'll look at this tonight when I get off work and commit some
fixes, unless someone beats me to it.

... Adam

Bug#669098: qapt FTBFS MD5Summation and debMD5 undeclared

2012-04-17 Thread David Kalnischkies
Hi Jonathan and hello qapt debian-maintainers,

Attached is a simple patch to fix the FTBFS of qapt since apt = 0.9:
src/debfile.cpp:187:5: error: 'MD5Summation' was not declared in this scope

The problem is that it seems like I forgot to guard some header cleanup
properly, so the transitive include of apt-pkg/md5.h is gone now.
We might end up fixing this in libapt-pkg-dev, but as transitive includes
are a bad thing it should be fixed in qapt either way.

(After wheezy release we might start bugging front-ends to have a
look at APT_8_CLEANER_HEADERS, but that is another story…)

Best regards

David Kalnischkies

Bug#661283: cmor: FTBFS on kfreebsd-amd64

 That's just 128 MiB.

Argh I misunderstood this before. Yes 128 MiB is definitely too low for
cmor; it seems to need ~700 MiB to pass the test suite or run at all.

For kfreebsd-i386:

cmor never built on this anyway, so it's not vital we fix that. Anyone
planning to run climate models can surely find an amd64 system with
plenty of RAM. It built on Linux i386, but only because it doesn't
enforce this type of limit.

The FreeBSD handbook mentions raising DFLDSIZ for memory pigs[1] but
never higher than 1 GiB on i386. I think other kernel memory limits are
hit at that point anyway. Trying to raise it much higher leaves my
system unable to spawn init.

With a DFLDSIZ setting of 512 MiB I can still boot a system with only 64
MiB physical RAM. To make the compiled-in default any higher would also
require raising MAXDSIZ, or else it is still too low for cmor. So I
suggest leaving this alone.

For kfreebsd-amd64:

A default of 128 MiB is quite low, and common software in Debian like
mysql, squid or inkscape may have a problem with it.

The MySQL 5.0 manual[2] recommends 1 GiB and I think that would be a
sensible default.

A DFLDSIZ of even 32 GiB on amd64 does not stop system with only 128 MiB
physical RAM from booting.

Bug#654783: about test_socket hang

If I hit ^Z, poll is interrupted, then fg makes it progress. By

Alternatively, I patched glibc with this workaround (see attachment).
This makes the test finish in about 16 seconds.

Strange, the workaround hasn't really changed anything for me on
kfreebsd-i386: test_socket still hangs some of the time. When that
happens the ^Z / fg trick doesn't help me.

As mentioned on the d-d-a mail, you should not unconditionally
arch-qualify packages, as those will be refused on non-multiarch

«dpkg --assert-multi-arch».

Bug#669196: libvorbisidec: multiple longstanding unfixed security issues in libvorbis

2012-04-17 Thread Michael Gilbert
package: libvorbisidec
severity: grave
version: 1.0.2+svn16259-2
tag: security

libvorbisidec shares a large majority of its code with libvorbis.
There have been quite a few security issues fixed in libvorbis over
the past few years that have subsequently gone unfixed here. These
include:

CVE-2007-3106
CVE-2007-4029
CVE-2007-4065
CVE-2007-4066
CVE-2008-1419
CVE-2008-1420
CVE-2008-1423
CVE-2008-2009
CVE-2009-2663
CVE-2009-3379
CVE-2012-0444

I have only checked the 2009 and 2012 issues so far, but since all
issued after the 1.0 release, it is very likely that most are valid.

Anyway, these issues should be fixed or the package should be removed.

Best wishes,
Mike

I reread this one a few times, I'm not clear on what:

 == printf 'GET
 /cgi-bin/munin-cgi-graph/localdomain/localhost.localdomain/vmstat-day.png?foo

HTTP/1.0\r\nHost: localhost\r\nConnection: close\r\n\r\n' | nc
 localhost 80

Provided that the filename actually exists, munin will render the
 image ==

means exactly, does the file vmstat-day.png need to exist where?
It seems like if the image is of any size (say 20k or more) the
amplification (each get request = 20k of tmp space usage) and
the files have to be deleted manually it might qualify as a DoS.

hel...@subdivi.de can you shed more light on this?

The basic requirement is that a plugin called vmstat is configured
for the node localhost.localdomain. I just picked it as an example,
cause it is present on my system. In practise any plugin for any
 host will do.

Is this the default configuration?

In addition munin parses parts of the query string. You are allowed
to modify the size of the image. By choosing a path
 png?size_x=2size_y=2uniquestuff you can do the
same attack while simultaneously using a large image size. The raw
image would be 381M (assuming 8bits/pixel) in this case. A png
version will likely be smaller, say 4M? So now you have an
amplification of 4M/request. Note that this query can get a node
into swapping, because rrdtool needs to create the whole image in
 main memory.

 Hope this helps

Ouch.

I am not that sure about the defaults, because I changed them. However
running a Munin without any plugins is pointless. It is like running a
mail server that does not transport any mail. You don't even have to
guess the name of a configured plugin, because those images are linked
from the html. Finding a configured plugin is really no issue on any
sane munin installation. Sane administrators may have to restricted
access to munin to themselves as to not expose the monitoring results to
the public though.

Bug#669198: Please close

2012-04-17 Thread Frank McCormick

Please close this bug report - two packages had not been updated on my
machine because of a previous error and that was cuasing aptitude to die.

Sorry for the noise.
