Bug#707307: mediatomb-common: Mediatomb in Wheezy fails to start because there is no libfaac.so.0

2013-05-09 Thread Hector Oron
Hello,

2013/5/9 J G Miller mil...@yoyo.org:
 Severity: grave

 The MediaTomb daemon executable in Wheezy is linked to libfaac

 ldd /usr/bin/mediatomb  | grep libfaac
 libfaac.so.0 = not found

I do not see that linkage here.

 This makes the package unusable and therefore the
 severity of the bug is set to GRAVE.

Downgrading severity as it appears to only be affecting you.

 Was MediatTomb ever tested for release in Wheezy?

Yes, I have it running here.

 If none beats me to it, I'll configure wheezy-security build chroots tonight.

It has already been setup, please, verify it is working fine.

 I would guess the autobuilders are just too slow to finish the test
 suite on time for now. Unfortunately, the ACESIII developers really
 used rather heavy stuff for their test suite.

 I have confirmed this on armhf (harris.d.o's unstable chroot) at least
 now. The test suite is running, and a modified (much smaller) testcase
 finishes fine.

JFYI,
Just given back and increase timeout in all arm* buildds.

Bug#664144: tthsum: FTBFS[kfreebsd-amd64]: big endian test fails

2012-03-26 Thread Hector Oron
Hello Walter,

2012/3/26 Walter 'Wallie' Doekes wal...@wjd.nu:
 Big endian check fails on 64 bit numbers

 That amd64 is not a big endian machine, is it?

 I'm suspecting you're running through these options here and getting the
 BIG_ENDIAN default as fallback:
 http://tthsum.devs.nu/svn/trunk/tthsum/endian.h

 Do you know how one is supposed to get the endianness on your platform?

We can get endianess from Debian environment variable:

  $ dpkg-architecture -qDEB_BUILD_ARCH_ENDIAN
little
  DEB_BUILD_ARCH_ENDIAN=little

The following macros from the compiler seem to also be available:

#define __ORDER_LITTLE_ENDIAN__ 1234
#define __FLOAT_WORD_ORDER__ __ORDER_LITTLE_ENDIAN__
#define __ORDER_PDP_ENDIAN__ 3412
#define __ORDER_BIG_ENDIAN__ 4321
#define __BYTE_ORDER__ __ORDER_LITTLE_ENDIAN__

Bug#664949: dillo: FTBFS: bw.o: could not read symbols: Bad value

2012-03-25 Thread Hector Oron
Hi,

2012/3/25 Axel Beckert a...@debian.org:

 As the error message recommends, using -fPIC helps. But interestingly
 not in CFLAGS but in CPPFLAGS. For now I've added it for all
 architecutres, but I'm not 100% sure if it's a good idea
 to solve this issue, especially if the issue could be located in some
 other package.

IMHO I think that should be fine, if you expect to link object code
with -pie/-fPIE, the objects need to be compiled with, at least,
-fPIC, or you could even use -fPIE.

 I can reproduce this issue with and without pbuilder on amd64 while I

I have only had few time to give it a pick to this bug. It seems to be
related to the use of -pie at link time (LDFLAGS). This setting seems
to come from ``fltk-config --ldflags'', which for amd64 gives the
following output:

$ fltk-config --ldflags
-L/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu -fPIE -pie -Wl,-z,relro -Wl,-z,now -lfltk

I just have not had the time to find out why linking with -pie is broken.

Bug#634240: [Vm-dev] Re: [Pkg-squeak-devel] squeak-vm_4.4.7.2357-1.1_i386.changes REJECTED

2012-03-04 Thread Hector Oron
Hello Ian,

[Add CC to original Debian Bug report and Neil Williams for providing
patch for fixing the problem]

 Hi All,

 The quoted correspondence didn't quite go far enough back to give me details
 of the original complaint against the embedded library sources, so I could
 be peeing against entirely the wrong tree, but with that caveat...

 On Sat, Mar 03, 2012 at 02:19:04PM +0100, Bert Freudenberg wrote:

  The embedding of source code for libraries in the Squeak VM sources is
  historical, probably to spare builders the hassle of hunting down the
  right sources. On Linux it doesn't really make sense to do that, agreed.

 Off the top of my head, by using identical plugin sources on all platforms
 we can:

 1. Guarantee access to the plugins for all POSIX-like platforms, including
 several that were around long before Linux was invented, by including a
 version of the library that we know has no particular dependencies on any
 given platform or architecture;

 2. Guarantee access to the plugins on platforms that choose not to bundle
 the required libraries or for which the library maintainer chooses not to
 spend any time providing compatibility or maintenance (this and the previous
 are pretty much the above 'historical' that you mention);

 3. Guarantee bit-identical results across all platforms;

 4. Guarantee no risk of API divergence between a plugin and whatever version
 of its encapsulated library a given platform chooses to call canonical this
 week;

 5. Guarantee that bugs fixed for the affected plugins/libraries on non-Linux
 platforms provide benefit to the Linux VM too;

 6. Guarantee that bugs fixed for the affected plugins/libraries on the Linux
 platforms provide benefit to the VMs for all other platforms too;

 7. Guarantee adherence to the principle of not fixing something that isn't
 broken (insofar as our versions rely only on portable standards and a given
 platform on which we compile adheres properly to those standards);

 8. Guarantee that the plugins continue to function when some OS or variant
 of it decides to replace a bundled library with a newer, bug-ridden,
 un[der]-tested, 'equivalent' library that most probably comes with a
 'better' but completely incompatible API designed with no consideration for
 backwards compatibility.

 All of the above are important (and in some cases critical) to someone,
 somewhere, and the last one has bitten me several times -- and continues to
 do so to this day.

In Linux distributions, at least Debian, we care about security, if we
have a security bug against libjpeg, that means all the packages
shipping embedded copies have to be patched, and even worse those
packages can have multiple different and modified embedded copies of
the same source. I think you can imagine, security wise, what the
overhead is. Linux distributions, at least Debian, pick just ship one
copy of the library and link software with it, so when a problem
appears, only one patch is needed and the rest of the distribution
benefits from that. If something breaks, then fixing is a must of
course.

 That said, it would be easy to arrange the CMake files to link a given
 plugin against a compatible platform-supplied library thereby permitting the
 given packaging process (for a Linux distribution that objects to the
 embedded library sources) to remove those parts of Cross that are unwanted.
 That's an issue for the maintainer working for the distribution in question
 and I'd be happy to work with the first of them that determines such a
 mechanism to be necessary.  The maintainer in question would of course have
 to understand that by creating a special case for their distribution they
 would be assuming primary responsibility for solving subsequent
 compatibility issues (cases 4 and 8) with no guarantee that anyone in the
 Squeak community would consider the issues high priority or be inclined to
 help fix them considering their self-inflicted and essentially arbitrary
 cause.  Of course it is always possible that the current version of a
 particular library on a particular platform has already become incompatible
 with our plugins, which would immediate place the package maintainer for the
 affected platform in the precarious situation mentioned above.

 A few '--with' options, as were already suggested by Dave I think, are a
 good first approximation that permits linking against a platform library
 rather than an embedded one.  Once they are in place it would be very little
 work to make them the default on a particular distribution leaving the
 packager free to excise the embedded library sources.

 Now, what was the problem?  :)

We fixed several problems, and patch is attached at (thanks Neil Williams):

Bug#652534: mediatomb-common: Uninstallable due to missing/wrong dependencies

Please, dont remove it, I am working on it. Currently I got the package built
but I had to temporarily disable libjs, to drop spidermonkey dependency. MP4Box
binary from gpac package could be used instead, suggested on the mediatomb bug
tracking system.

See
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=3471880group_id=84101atid=571738

In anycase, once the package builds, its installable.

Bug#646449: libosip2 upload to unstable

2012-02-15 Thread Hector Oron
Dear fellows,

  I would like to check if there is something holding RC fix in
unstable for libosip2 package. Currently it is blocking some packages
to build on armhf and s390x. If you dont have the time, would you have
anything against unstable NMU?

Kind regards,

Bug#654604: [b-d][armel|armhf] veusz

2012-01-23 Thread Hector Oron
Hello,

2012/1/23 Stefano Rivera stefa...@debian.org:

 Jeremy:
 or is there a virtual machine somewhere I can debug under?

 One can build a lot of arm bits in a armel chroot, with
 qemu-user-static + binfmt_misc, but here gcc segfaults under
 qemu-user-static, so let's try a porterbox...

Build deps installed in harris.debian.org SID chroot.

Out of curiosity, any idea why qemu-user-static segfaults?

 gdb FTBFS in a minimal i386 chroot:
 | checking for library containing waddstr... no
 | configure: error: no enhanced curses library found; disable TUI
 | make[2]: *** [configure-gdb] Error 1

 Perhaps it's a missing build-dependency on lib64ncurses5-dev?

Yes, this was fixed in experimental:
  http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gdb/news/2018T210323Z.html

Hence I downgrade severity, feel free to close the bug if appropriate.

Soon gdb-7.4 will be released and I plan to upgrade unstable gdb to
that version with the fix.

Kind regards,

Bug#652906: [b-d][harris] firebird2.5 (sid)

2011-12-21 Thread Hector Oron
Hello Damyan,

2011/12/21 Damyan Ivanov d...@debian.org:
 -=| Hector Oron, 21.12.2011 18:37:40 + |=-

 May I also ask you to upgrade the sid chroot? It is not urgent, so if
 you plan to do the upgrade in a week or so, I can wait.

Its currently upgraded to latest debian-ports versions, as you said,
it is lagging a bit behind. Soon debian-ports archive will cease to
accept armhf and s390x packages, so we'll let you know once an
official debian sid chroot with later versions is available.

 The reason I am asking this is that I am unable to reproduce the FTBFS
 I am after on harris, and before I request a give-back I want to try
 with the toolchain versions that are present on the buildd. harris
 seems to be lagging a bit for the following packages:

If you think the bug is toolchain related it could be given back, but
please try to reproduce in some way or the other.

Cheers,

Hello Lennart,

2011/12/5 Lennart Sorensen lsore...@csclub.uwaterloo.ca:

 I tried adding armhf to the list of archs needing -fno-tree-sra, and it
 made no difference at all.  Exact same crash in the same place.

Yes, that matches my tests. Thanks very much for trying.

  makes finding problems easy, but exercises the threading library in
  interesting ways.

  Most of the issues are reproducible by re-building the Debian package.
  Use make make test to get a shorter build.

  Here is the current complete list of issues I'm aware of. My time will
  be very limited in the coming weeks, but I will try my best to provide

  [armel,sparc] FTBFS due to miscompilation with -ftree-sra (inc. in -O3).
  See http://bugs.debian.org/635126.
  Currently worked-around by using -fno-tree-sra.
  Other packages might be affected.
  - FIXED from ruby1.9.1's POV, but you really want to look at this

  [armel] I've just seen that now that this one is fixed, the test suite
  segfaults.
  See
  https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ruby1.9.1arch=armelver=1.9.3~preview1%2Bsvn33077-1stamp=1314634969
  search for 'TestFiber#test_many_fibers'.
  'make test-all' to reproduce. Failures during test-all are currently not
  fatal. The remaining ones needs more investigation, but I don't think
  that they are arch-specific. I'd like to make test-all failures fatal at
  some point.

 Building on armhf seemed to go fine, and running some of the examples
 looked good too.

Lennart, could you try to rebuild on armhf, we are trying to bootstrap armhf in
official main and contrib Debian archive, but build seems to hang:

See
https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=ruby1.9.1arch=armhfver=1.9.3.0-1stamp=1322758500

Now, trying to build with -fno-tree-sra.

I have packaged latest upstream version 2.9.1, cherry pick changes from mentors
and fix several build depends, format security hardening flags, ... it now
builds fine.

As it is a new upstream release, changes shown via debdiff are massive, so I am
not sure how would you like to proceed. I can either upload what I have
somewhere, so you can have a review, or I can just NMU what I have.

Do you have any preference?

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for directfb (versioned as 1.2.10.0-4.3) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/7. Please feel free to tell me if I
should delay it longer.

Please consider to apply this fix to experimental package too.

I have opened a ticket upstream regarding this bug:
 http://directfb.org/mantis/view.php?id=16

Regards.

 This package builds with -Werror, and GCC 4.6 triggers new warnings
 which will make the package fail to build. Currently a Debian patch
 just passes
 -Wno-error=unused-but-set-variable and
 -Wno-error=unused-but-set-parameter
 to avoid build failures, but this patch will be reverted with the
 GCC 4.6.1 release, and the severity of the report will be raised.

 The full build log can be found at:

  I really fail to see what you mean on this bug report.
  The build log you post, looks fine to me, it does not FTBFS, at least not for
-Werror related problems. I have also tried to reproduce this bug,
unsuccessfully.

 Would you prefer that we revert that patch before the next upload?

Which patch is it? Maybe it could be tested at abel.debian.org before
uploading and check
whether the patch is needed or not. I think you already have ace

Bug#627075: xserver-xorg-input-tslib: package is uninstallable: depends on xorg-input-abi-11

2011-05-17 Thread Hector Oron
Hello,

2011/5/17 frederic wagner frederic.wag...@imag.fr:

 The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  xserver-xorg-input-tslib : Depends: xorg-input-abi-11 but it is not
 installable
 E: Broken packages

The package needs source changes on upstream code to support ABI 12,
so at the moment if someone could help doing those it would be great.
I was looking into it, but I got no much time these days.

Your package fails to build on armel builders:

 This package is not likely to ever be built on armel ever again. I will
 create a manual arch list with armel excluded on the next upload, which is all
 that can be done on the scribus side. This problem is due to the qreal
 handling in Qt4 on arm and does not appear on any other architecture by the
 way.

Please do not disable armel, it should be buildable, please check:
  http://wiki.debian.org/ArmEabiFixes

At least ask arm porters if they care enough on this package to fix it.

Best regards

Bug#618656: binutils-z80: FTBFS

2011-03-26 Thread Hector Oron
Hello Joost,

2011/3/26 Joost Yervante Damad and...@debian.org:

   Your package does not build from source, because it does not match
 current binutils-source. Consider joining
 https://alioth.debian.org/projects/crosstoolchain/ so we can bring all
 cross compilers to Debian from one source package.

 Thanks, I requested to join that alioth project.

I was thinking on joining all cross-compilers efforts into one source
package containing the upstream source, but using the syntax proposed
at
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2011/03/msg00852.html
should fix the problem and you can carry on with your packages while
it ensures we comply with GPL license.

Best regards,

Bug#618656: binutils-z80: FTBFS

2011-03-26 Thread Hector Oron
Hi,

2011/3/26 Joost Yervante Damad and...@debian.org:

 is this new syntax already supported now then?

In shortly ftp masters should send an update to debian-devel-announce
explaining it.

 Just thinking about it a little more, that syntax would give something like:

 Build-using: bunutils-source(= 2.21.0.20110322-1)

 while actually for my purpose something like:

 Build-using: bunutils-source(= 2.21.0,  2.21.1)

 Is that also going to be supported?

You can adjust your build-depends to that, but build-using just
ensures the source tarball is kept in the archive (it is really a
signal to ftp-masters or the main archive) for GPL compliancy.

Best regards,

I finally was able to build qtwebkit on armel succesfully:

I commented out a couple patches:
04_enable_debug_information.diff (suggested by Sune)
webcore_qtplatformplugin_createfullscreenvideohandler_ftbfs.patch (it
looked suspicious to me, as )

$ cat debian/patches/series

Let me know if you need anymore information or if full buildlog can be useful.
