Bug#950576: network-manager fails to correctly configure eth0 speed and fails when autoneg is on

2020-02-03 Thread Eric Valette
Package: network-manager
Version: 1.22.6-1
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

If I let eth0 in /etc/network/interface I get my eth0 card correctly configured
by ifplugd
each time using full duplex and 1000Mbps

ethtool eth0
Settings for eth0:
Supported ports: [ TP ]
Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
1000baseT/Full
Supported pause frame use: No
Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
Supported FEC modes: Not reported
Advertised link modes: 1000baseT/Full
Advertised pause frame use: No
Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Advertised FEC modes: Not reported
Speed: 1000Mb/s
Duplex: Full
Port: Twisted Pair
PHYAD: 1
Transceiver: internal
Auto-negotiation: on
MDI-X: off (auto)
Supports Wake-on: pumbg
Wake-on: g
Current message level: 0x0007 (7)
   drv probe link
Link detected: yes

If I let network manager handle this interface and either set "allow autoneg"
or disable
it and force speed at 1000 I get no working interafce it keeps trying to
configure
it in a loop.

The only config that works is:
1) disable autoneg
2) and set speed at 100Mbps

but this is not what I want and fisrt ethtool command shows the ethernet card
is capable
of what I want.
