Best guess apt-get manages to break its *.bin cache files. Maybe when it complains about the APT::Cache-Limit being too small. Did you have to increase APT::Cache-Limit just before you got the Segmentation fault? No, I didn't change anything in the cache or apt at all. 1) You do not just get i386 packages instead of native ones in general. But you can on rare occasions and only in unstable/experimental when i386 has a newer version than amd64. The pining is only needed to prevent even those rare occasions. Ah ok, that is already much better. 2) There is also nothing I can do about this automatically as policy forbids ia32-apt-get from changing /etc/apt/preferences, a conffile of another package. Wether this can be improved upon depends on the apt maintainer, for example they could add a /etc/apt/preferences.d/ directory like there is apt-conf.d/ and sources.list.d/. Agreed, that would be a decent solution. 3) You do have installed ia32-libs. As such you have selected to install i386 debs on your system. ia32-apt-get extends that somewhat and changes the way the debs are fetched but you already did choose to install i386 debs when you selected ia32-libs however long ago that was. Yes, but I didn't select that it should change the way I use apt-get! 4) Unstable is as unstable says! You get to keep the pices. ;-) I know. This is a new software that only a few people (74 acording to popcon) have used so far. There are bound to be bugs and there are bound to be missing features. Software isn't born perfect. between perfect and ready for unstable there is experimental. And it is there where one should clean out the most horrible bugs. Bug#534799: Dependency issues?
On Sun, Jun 28, 2009 at 8:35 PM, Jonas Smedegaardd...@jones.dk wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: RIPEMD160 On Sat, Jun 27, 2009 at 09:23:05AM -0400, Jan Muszynski wrote: The version of cups in sid (1.3.10-5) has a recommends on ghostcript-cups. ghostcript-cups has a dependency on cups, but it's unversioned. Does the cups dependency need to be = 1.3.10-5 ? For anyone finding this note that cups is currently stuck in sid apparently waiting on the krb5 transition (which seems to be waiting on some of the architectures other than i386/amd64). Above is a bug in cups (or the helper packages more directly depending on raster filters. The maintainer of cups is fully aware of the need for the new ghostscript-cups package, as that maintainer reqested that very change. Right, and the new version of cups does, indeed, have a recommends on ghostscript-cups. So that part of the equation is taken care of in the sid version of cups. The question I have (which cannot be fixed in cups itself) is should the dependency on cups within ghostcript-cups have a version attached to it? ghostscript-cups needs cups in order to function. Fine, that's why it has the dependency. But will it function with any version? Or does it need the version that's currently in sid? If it needs the version currently in sid then the dependency on cups should be versioned. That's all. This isn't a huge deal since once cups itself finally moves down to testing it will self-correct. But in the meantime it will be problematic. Someone upgrading ghostscript will have no way of knowing that the new ghostscript-cups package exists (which was why I suggested a suggests dependency). Someone that finds the new package won't be aware that they need the version of cups in sid rather then the version they already have installed (assuming they run testing. If they run pure sid they're already in synch). Since ghostscript-cups obviously depends on cups (as the dependency correctly states) I just feel that it should version the already existing dependency to indicate it won't work with the version of cups it finds in testing. The version found in sid appears to work just fine - so no bug in that version of cups. Ghostscript itself should possibly have a recommends, or at least a suggests, on ghostcript-cups. No: Ghostscript benefits in no way from the contents of ghostscript-cups. But the contents of said package were, prior to this point, part of ghostcript itself. So in a twisted sort of way you're stating that ghostscript doesn't benefit from itself :) I will now close this as it is not a bug in ghostscript. OK - can you reassign to ghostcript-cups? :) Kind regards, and thanks for your report, anyway :-) You're welcome. At least if anyone runs across the problem and finds this bug listing they should be able to figure out what to do. (Which is the biggest reason I'm doing this). Hopefully the cups version in sid will make it down to testing sooner rather than later, which will make this discussion pretty much moot. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#534799: Dependency issues?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: RIPEMD160 package ghostscript cups forcemerge 532916 534799 thanks On Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 04:19:50AM -0400, Jan Muszynski wrote: The question I have (which cannot be fixed in cups itself) is should the dependency on cups within ghostcript-cups have a version attached to it? ghostscript-cups needs cups in order to function. Fine, that's why it has the dependency. But will it function with any version? Or does it need the version that's currently in sid? If it needs the version currently in sid then the dependency on cups should be versioned. That's all. ghostscript-cups do *not* need cups to function. If it did, it should depend on, not just recommend, cups. ghostscript-cups has little _use_ without cups, which is the reason it recommends cups. This isn't a huge deal since once cups itself finally moves down to testing it will self-correct. But in the meantime it will be problematic. No changes to ghostscript-cups could solve the current temporary confusion. These changes could have avoided the confusion (but that's too late now, I guess): * NEWS entry in cups warning about the new recommendation * ghostscript-cups dependency in cups-driver-gutenprint and similar raster drivers Someone upgrading ghostscript will have no way of knowing that the new ghostscript-cups package exists (which was why I suggested a suggests dependency). I believe it works fine with cups - either the sid or the Lenny release. What does not work is package dependency resolving. It does not make sense to me to add Breaks: hint to other packages for broken dependencies only - installing ghostscript-cups does _not_ break cups. :) Fair enough: merging with existing bug in cups, then :-P - Jonas - -- * Jonas Smedegaard - idealist og Internet-arkitekt * Tlf.: +45 40843136 Website: http://dr.jones.dk/ [x] quote me freely [ ] ask before reusing [ ] keep private -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) iEYEAREDAAYFAkpIkSIACgkQn7DbMsAkQLjD2gCeNMgtQN5BuZGCJPLiVXh9FFNp Tg4Anja4n/KkrrCyDWsDkJLwXPU7//lB =IIVL -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. We could release a fix of config.inc.php which rejects requests specific to the worm that was released. But this is an incomplete fix necessarily. Wouldn't that bring a false sense of security? Well most problems come from the fact, that setup script is not protected, when user does not use our config snippets for webserver (otherwise the setup script would be password protected and it would not be an issue). In this case we can try to check for some things (like usage of system()), but you're right, this would be incomplete fix. Anyway we should somehow protect against such situations (unprotected setup script which can change configuration). Maybe making /var/lib/phpmyadmin/config.inc.php writable for www-data only if user has enabled our snippets through debconf? -- Michal Čihař | http://cihar.com | http://blog.cihar.com signature.asc Description: PGP signature

Bug#534944: grub-pc: text mode virtual terminals blank
Hi, Since I'm unable to reproduce this, I will need some help. I need you to boot a modified Linux image with the linux16 loader, e.g.: linux16 /boot/bzImage boot and then tell me the output (if you're using the older version of GRUB, linux16 won't be present, in that case use linux instead). You might be able to get it through a serial port with console=ttyS0 parameter, but I'm not sure if that will work at this point in the boot process. Otherwise, use pencil and paper! The patch you need to apply to Linux is attached. If it's more practical to you, you can use this prebuilt image instead: http://people.debian.org/~rmh/bzImage which is gpg-signed: http://people.debian.org/~rmh/bzImage.sig -- Robert Millan The DRM opt-in fallacy: Your data belongs to us. That comes from the ia32-apt-get prior to version 15, which was in violation of policy by modifying the sources.list directly. Version 15 introduced a new way that leaves all conffiles as they are and only creates new ones with a clear prefix to avoid name clashes. Updating from = 14 undoes the modifications to sources.list by restoring the original file. So that is what you are seeing. Bug#535092: iceweasel fails to start on sparc, bus error
Package: iceweasel Version: 3.0.11-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable iceweasel fails completely to start on sparc. An identical installation on i386 works just fine. I made a new clean debian installation using the newest unstable netboot installation image I could find to test this in case my pre-lenny-unstable environment was somehow broken, but the clean debian/unstable (this host) exhibits the same problem. I don't have any plugins or similar installed, because I can't start the browser to be able to add them. iceweasel-dbg doesn't reveal much: GNU gdb 6.8-debian Copyright (C) 2008 Free Software Foundation, Inc. A system cannot be secured, as wholes are not recognized (security problem) 2. This package is not correct functioning. 3. Any server tested with this package cannot be trusted. Bug#534944: grub-pc: text mode virtual terminals blank
Hi again, I'm uploading 1.96+20090629-1, which includes some cleanup in the Linux loader. It's possible your problem might disappear with this version, please report. Note: Try it in text mode first (run terminal_output console in GRUB prompt). If that _does_ work, try from gfxterm then. Bug#534721: libhpricot-ruby1.8: Hpricot's XML parser fails to parse simple, valid XML
Ryan Niebur dijo [Sun, Jun 28, 2009 at 01:54:09AM -0700]: Package: libhpricot-ruby1.8 Version: 0.8-2 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Sorry about this. I have sent an email to the upstream author asking for input. However all of my scripts (tho I only use hpricot for simple HTML parsing) are still in working condition afaict. out of curiosity, Gunnar, has the new version of hpricot negatively affected dh-make-drupal at all? Umh, I have noticed no breakage here, and I am using 0.8-2. In fact, many of the cases presented by the submitter appear different here: First problem, where an extra / appeared, does not happen here: $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('/') / $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('/') / Handling malformed XML behaves as reported - I don't know whether to consider a bug misparsing what cannot be parsed, though: $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('a/b') a/b/a $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('ab') ab/a This appears to work fine: $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('/').search('/') / $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('/').search('//') The nesting is not broken here: $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('a/b/b/a') a/b/b/a $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('a/b/b/a').search('/a/b') b/b $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('a/b/b/a').search('/a//b') This last case behaves as reported: $ ruby -e require 'hpricot'; print Hpricot.XML('a/b') a/b/a But, again, if the input is invalid, I cannot expect the output to make sense. -- Gunnar Wolf • gw...@gwolf.org • (+52-55)5623-0154 / 1451-2244 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#535099: Please drop zephyr-server-krb for real
Package: zephyr Version: 3.0~beta.2483-2 Severity: serious Justification: Advertises more packages than actually built. Hi, after wondering for a while why zephyr's status is the following[1], it turned out that as I suspected, it dropped one of its binary packages (zephyr-server-krb), which blocks its migration. 1. http://qa.debian.org/excuses.php?package=zephyr That's not actually very true: this package is still mentioned in debian/control, but isn't built anymore, because of the following in debian/rules: | VARIETALS=krb5 | PACKAGES:=-plibzephyr4 -pzephyr-clients -pzephyr-server -plibzephyr-dev $(foreach i,$(VARIETALS),-plibzephyr4-$(i) -pzephyr-server-$(i)) | … | dh_gencontrol $(PACKAGES) So, either you dropped the package on purpose, and it shall disappear from your debian/control, and you should ask for the removal of the ancient zephyr-server-krb binaries as explained in [2], or there was some mistake and that package should still be built. I suspect the former, hence this bugreport with that subject. 2. http://wiki.debian.org/ftpmaster_Removals Mraw, KiBi. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. I would need some way to reproduce this problem. Try the following: - Rename your ~/.gnote. - Run gnote, it will create a new ~/.gnote. - Copy one of the offending notes (*.note files) to the new ~/.gnote BEFORE it got corrupted. - Verify its current state. If the note has now been corrupted, send me a copy of the old note (prior to corruption). Btw, which version of gnote are you using? -- Robert Millan The DRM opt-in fallacy: Your data belongs to us. Bug#533361: [grahn: Henning's patch tested, and kind of working]
Scripsit Jörgen Grahn Just in case you too do not get mail notifications whenever a Debian bug gets updated. I wrote this: Oops, thanks for the heads-up. I meant to subscribe to the PTS for xcftools, but never got it done after I resigned as a Debian dev a couple of months ago. Henning, sorry for not replying earlier -- I somehow believed the BTS would Cc: me on everything, and didn't check the web interface until today. I thought that too -- otherwise I'd have Cc'ed you directly. However, the resulting image still looks strange. ... What L2.png actually contains is the 10x10 canvas-visible part and everything to the south and east of that. The rest is clipped, i.e. filled -b white. Yes, this is a bug. There were a few more places where I had stored canvas-based coordinates in unsigned variables. Embarassing. The attached patch ought to fix fixed all known cases. It is based on the clean 1.0.4 source. I don't think any of the newly fixed places are security relevant. They just cause parts of the source image to be ignored, or in certain cases wrong pixels to be read. So if someone does a security upload to lenny, the previous patch is probably the least invasive one to use. I plan to release 1.0.5 with the fixes Thursday or Friday -- other stuff gets in the way until then. Also, for me personally, this doesn't matter because now that xcf2pnm no longer crashes, I can see that I do not want the -C effect. I want my layers clipped to the canvas, just like xcf2pnm does by default. I will try to think of improvements to the wording of the manpage such that others will not be similarly confused. Suggestions welcome. -- Henning Makholm Al lykken er i ét ord: Overvægtig! ? 533361b.patch ? autotools-stamp ? configure-stamp ? foo.png ? test-stamp Index: flatten.c === RCS file: /home/makcvs/repository/source/xcftools/flatten.c,v retrieving revision 1.27 diff -u -r1.27 flatten.c --- flatten.c 22 Feb 2006 00:01:04 - 1.27 +++ flatten.c 29 Jun 2009 22:10:22 - @@ -619,14 +619,14 @@ fillTile(toptile,0); for( where.t = spec-dim.c.t; where.t spec-dim.c.b; where.t=where.b ) { -where.b = (where.t+TILE_HEIGHT) - where.t % TILE_HEIGHT ; +where.b = TILE_TOP(where.t)+TILE_HEIGHT ; if( where.b spec-dim.c.b ) where.b = spec-dim.c.b ; nrows = where.b - where.t ; for( y = 0; y nrows ; y++ ) rows[y] = xcfmalloc(4*(spec-dim.c.r-spec-dim.c.l)); for( where.l = spec-dim.c.l; where.l spec-dim.c.r; where.l=where.r ) { - where.r = (where.l+TILE_WIDTH) - where.l % TILE_WIDTH ; + where.r = TILE_LEFT(where.l)+TILE_WIDTH ; if( where.r spec-dim.c.r ) where.r = spec-dim.c.r ; ncols = where.r - where.l ; Index: pixels.c === RCS file: /home/makcvs/repository/source/xcftools/pixels.c,v retrieving revision 1.14 diff -u -r1.14 pixels.c --- pixels.c 13 Feb 2006 03:04:03 - 1.14 +++ pixels.c 29 Jun 2009 22:10:22 - @@ -361,8 +361,8 @@ if( isSubrect(want,dim-c) (want.l - dim-c.l) % TILE_WIDTH == 0 (want.t - dim-c.t) % TILE_HEIGHT == 0 ) { -unsigned tx = (want.l - dim-c.l) / TILE_WIDTH ; -unsigned ty = (want.t - dim-c.t) / TILE_WIDTH ; +int tx = TILE_NUM(want.l - dim-c.l); +int ty = TILE_NUM(want.t - dim-c.t); if( want.r == TILEXn(*dim,tx+1) want.b == TILEYn(*dim,ty+1) ) { /* The common case? Bug#531595: Bug#531569: Fixing LaTeX in oldstable
Any chance to get an answer on that so that we can upload fixed packages? On Mi, 24 Jun 2009, Norbert Preining wrote: Hi Luk, hi Frank, On Do, 18 Jun 2009, Norbert Preining wrote: On Do, 11 Jun 2009, Frank Küster wrote: I am right now uploading an again-installable tetex-bin to oldstable-proposed-updates (I hope that's correct?), and texlive-bin will follow soon. Both uploads have been built in etch pbuilder chroots, and have been tested to fix the problem. The changes are small, essentially only one patch file is added, and except for the changelog one file in debian/ is changed, namely the quilt series file (for tetex-bin) or the dpatch 00list file. The patch is attached. Do we need to do anything else (besides fixing stable and sid, but that isn't urgent since the bug won't show up soon)? sid will be fixed soon, but I have uploaded texlive-bin 2007.dfsg.2-4+lenny1 to proposed-stable-updates which includes the same fix as tetex and texlive-bin 2005 uploaded by Frank. One more problem was found: While the generation of latex format was fixed by this change in the correct way, the generation of three other formats (cslatex/pdfcslatex from texlive-lang-czechslovak, xelatex from texlive-xetex, and mllatex from texlive-formats-extra) are also broken because they *stop* at the warning message and do not generate the format. The latex.ini file that is loaded when generating the (pdf)latex formats contains the line \scrollmode which makes the engine (pdftex/...) *not* stop at the respective message. Unfortunately that line is missing from mllatex.ini, cslatex.ini, xelatex.ini. I have prepared: texlive-base2007.dfsg.2-1~lenny2 texlive-lang2007.dfsg.4-1+lenny1 texlive-extra 2007.dfsg.17-1~lenny02 for stable-proposed updates. The last one would replace the ~lenny01 package that is already in stable. The texlive-lang is the first update for stable. The question is about the first, texlive-base, where I have already uploaded one version (~lenny1) to stable-proposed-updates, but that has not been accepted by now. Should I upload a new ~lenny1 with the additional fixes or should I upload ~lenny1 for that package? Another idea might be to get rid of the package itself, but I won't be judging that here. Thanks for your time. Mraw, KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Write code once, sit around for several years, wake up one day and it suddenly no longer compiles. Is there an easy way to figure out where /usr/include/signal.h is being included? It seems that signal in that file is conflicting with sigc::signal. I suspect there are two possibilities: * /usr/include/signal.h was recently #include'd by one of gnomoradio's dependencies. or, * /usr/include/signal.h has always been included, but a new version of g++ has determined this reference to 'signal' to be ambiguous where it had not been before. I no longer use Debian, but I will try to debug this further if I get a chance. Bug#535133: rasmol: basename implicitly converted to pointer
Package: rasmol Version: 2.7.4.2-4 Severity: serious Tags: patch Usertags: implicit-pointer-conversion Our automated buildd log filter[1] detected a problem that is likely to cause your package to segfault on architectures where the size of a pointer is greater than the size of an integer, such as ia64 and amd64. Function `basename' implicitly converted to pointer at molecule.c:338 Function `basename' implicitly converted to pointer at molecule.c:338 Function `basename' implicitly converted to pointer at molecule.c:338 Function `basename' implicitly converted to pointer at molecule.c:338 This is often due to a missing function prototype definition. For more information, see [2]. Though it is guaranteed that this codepath will cause a segfault on certain architectures, it is not guaranteed that this codepath would ever be executed (e.g., if the returned pointer is never dereferenced). However, this bug does prevent the ia64 buildd from successfully building this package, resulting in a practical FTBFS issue and warranting the serious severity. The attached patch assumes the GNU implementation of basename() is desired. The same affect could be produced by adding -D_GNU_SOURCE to the CFLAGS. If the POSIX basename semantics are preferred, you'll probably want to #include libgen.h instead. Bug#531940: FTBFS on mipsel due to missing -fPIC
