Bug#554185: mtink: diff for NMU version 1.0.16-1.1
tags 534040 + patch pending tags 554185 + patch pending thanks Hi Sylvain, in my RC-squashing quest, I've stumbled upon mtink (hinted by your VAC message in which you said you welcome NMUs, of course :-)). So I've prepared an NMU for mtink (versioned as 1.0.16-1.1) and uploaded it to DELAYED/7. The patch is attached and fixes both outstanding RC issues: - the lack of a required manpage was due to an implicit po4a translation threshold (I presume it was not there before): you might want to tune per-page threshold, but note that some include files (e.g. the license statement) will most likely _always_ need a threshold of 0 - the missing build-dep on po-debconf was actually missing Lintian complains about various other packaging issues, but I haven't fixed more of them to avoid being too intrusive with this NMU. Bug#552761: no-copyright-file
tags 552761 confirmed thanks It is possible to create a transitional package that doesn't fail this Policy requirement; e.g., by making /usr/share/doc/gaim-otr a symlink to /usr/share/doc/pidgin-otr. Bug#553431: Copyright file does not contain verbatim copy of the license or a pointer to one
Given that the copyright file states the following, it may not be obvious what the bug is here: Almost components are licensed under GNU GPL2. See the file /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL2. I see two issues here. One is that the correct file is /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2, so it's misspelled here and this should be corrected. The other is that the terms of the GPL require reproduction of a standard warranty disclaimer, which appears to be absent. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#554201: marked as done (gnumeric-common: usr-share-doc-symlink-without-dependency gnumeric)

Note, that adding the Depends: entry just to fix this bug is not a good solution. It's suggested that you include a real /usr/share/doc/pkg1 directory within pkg1 and copy the copyright file into that directory. If the packages do not share source code, then pkg1 should have its own copyright file (since the authors of pkg2 are not to blame for pkg1). This bit covers meta packages as well. Refer to Debian Policy Manual section 12.5 (Copyright information) for details. ,[ 12.5 Copyright information ] | Every package must be accompanied by a verbatim copy of its copyright | and distribution license in the file | /usr/share/doc/package/copyright. This file must neither be compressed | nor be a symbolic link. ` | ... | /usr/share/doc/package may be a symbolic link to another directory in | /usr/share/doc only if the two packages both come from the same source | and the first package Depends on the second. These rules are important | because copyrights must be extractable by mechanical means. ` This is a bug filed due to a lintian warning (see above). However, this has also been checked manually, and thus there should be no false positives. Filed as serious since it is a violation of a must directive in policy, and also since a package with these flaws will currently get this package rejected. See http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2009/10/msg4.html for details. This means the package has been deemed too buggy to be in Debian. manoj -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31.4-anzu-2 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- no debconf information ---End Message--- ---BeginMessage--- Version: 1.9.15-1 On Tue, Nov 03, 2009 at 12:28:26 -0600, Manoj Srivastava wrote: Usertags: usr-share-doc-symlink-without-dependency Filed as serious since it is a violation of a must directive in policy, and also since a package with these flaws will currently get this package rejected. Bug#541572: elisa-plugins-good: diff for NMU version 0.3.5-2.2

Bug#554349: apt: Method rred has died unexpectedly!
On Wed, Nov 04, 2009 at 11:12:25AM +0100, David Kalnischkies wrote: tags 554349 + confirmed thanks Hello Faheem Mitha all other co-bug-reporters :) First of all: Thanks for the report! I have currently no time to dig into it a bit deeper, (hopefully i can do it tonight or tomorrow) but my first guess is an overflow of an internal variable: apt-get update -o Debug::pkgAcquire::RRed=1 -qq results in 65,442 lines of output which is near the value of a signed integer (65,535). A patch of this size (~9 MB) is a bit uncommon as it is bigger than the complete download of the new file. It would be good if APT could detect it... we will see. :) [..] Attached is a patch that should add detection for patches that are bigger than the actual file to patch. Unfortuantely I can no longer reproduce the failure. Testing/feedback is welcome. Bug#554456: Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D
Severity: serious Package: bouncycastle Version: 1.44-1 User: debian-rele...@lists.debian.org Usertags: nonfree-doc rfc Hi! This source package contains the following files from the IETF under non-free license terms: + bouncycastle-1.44/test/data/rfc4134/rfc4134.txt The license on RFC/I-Ds is not DFSG-free, see: * http://bugs.debian.org/199810 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments The lenny/squeeze release policy says binary and source packages must each be free: * http://release.debian.org/lenny/rc_policy.txt * http://release.debian.org/squeeze/rc_policy.txt The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy: * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of preference: 1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments 2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package version name. 3. Move the package to non-free. General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in source packages.
