These calls to read are in an unreachable function whose only invocation
occurs after an unconditional 'exit'. Downgrading.

Bug#554187: multiboot-doc: arch-dependent-file-in-usr-share /usr/share/doc/multiboot-doc/examples/kernel

2009-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 554187 normal

As explained in the package description, this file is included for
documentation purposes, not for execution; so the fact that it's an ELF
binary doesn't make this an FHS violation.

A lintian tag will, however, need to be added to the package before it can
be uploaded, per the recent announcement regarding lintian enforcement at
archive accept time.

debian/patches and adding it into 00list did fix the problem for me.

Bug#554185: mtink: diff for NMU version 1.0.16-1.1

2009-11-04 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
tags 534040 + patch pending
tags 554185 + patch pending
thanks

Hi Sylvain,
in my RC-squashing quest, I've stumbled upon mtink (hinted by your VAC
message in which you said you welcome NMUs, of course :-)). So I've
prepared an NMU for mtink (versioned as 1.0.16-1.1) and uploaded it to
DELAYED/7. The patch is attached and fixes both outstanding RC issues:

- the lack of a required manpage was due to an implicit po4a translation
threshold (I presume it was not there before): you might want to tune
per-page threshold, but note that some include files (e.g. the license
statement) will most likely _always_ need a threshold of 0
- the missing build-dep on po-debconf was actually missing

Lintian complains about various other packaging issues, but I haven't
fixed more of them to avoid being too intrusive with this NMU.

Cheers (and enjoy your VAC!).

Bug#552761: no-copyright-file

2009-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
tags 552761 confirmed
thanks

It is possible to create a transitional package that doesn't fail this
Policy requirement; e.g., by making /usr/share/doc/gaim-otr a symlink to
/usr/share/doc/pidgin-otr.

Since this transitional package was present already in lenny, I would
suggest dropping it entirely in the next upload; there should be no need to
keep a transitional package around across multiple releases.

Bug#554364: udev creates broken initrd

2009-11-04 Thread Christopher Schramm
Package: udev
Version: 146-6
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system

Using update-initramfs on my system running on a Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook with
udev-146 breaks the initrd.

When booting, all seems normal until sd and sr attached the devices. After that
point nothing happens. The system is running since e. g. plugging in an USB
device produces some more output, but the boot process does not go on.

Normally the next lines would be done. followed by Begin: Mounting root
filesystem.

Additionally when booting an initrd generated with an older version of udev I
encounter bug #551798 - maybe that's somehow related.

Bug#553273: read-in-maintainer-script preinst

2009-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
severity 553273 normal
severity 553277 normal
thanks

The call to the ask_abort function that does the prompting is guarded by:

case $1 in
upgrade)
   case $2 in
   2.6*)
   fix_cruft
   ask_abort
   ;;
   2*|3.1*|3.3.[1-6]*)
   ask_abort
   ;;
esac

Since the version of afbackup in oldstable is 3.4-3, this prompt only occurs
in the case of an unsupported upgrade from sarge.

The code should simply be removed, and replaced with a debconf prompt later
if there's a reason to ask this in the future.

I haven't looked in details but I suspect this issue is triggerred by
the change in Samba's default value for passdb backend. If that's
correct, what would be your suggestion to deal with that?

Bug#553431: Copyright file does not contain verbatim copy of the license or a pointer to one

2009-11-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Given that the copyright file states the following, it may not be obvious
what the bug is here:

Almost components are licensed under GNU GPL2. See the file
  /usr/share/common-licenses/GPL2.

I see two issues here. One is that the correct file is
/usr/share/common-licenses/GPL-2, so it's misspelled here and this should be
corrected. The other is that the terms of the GPL require reproduction of a
standard warranty disclaimer, which appears to be absent.

Hi,

UFC and DOLFIN are now built with the same version of SWIG and the bug
reported here is no longer an issue. Could you please close this bug?

Thanks,

Johannes

 Hi Lucas,

Thanks for the report. The problem is that both UFC and DOLFIN has to
be built with the same version of SWIG. In this case, UFC has been
built with SWIG 1.3.36 while DOLFIN was rebuilt with SWIG 1.3.39. The
proper fix in this situation would be to rebuild UFC with the current
 SWIG and then rebuild DOLFIN.

 Thanks,

 Johannes

If the package installs a symbolic link /usr/share/doc/pkg1 - pkg2,
then pkg1 has to depend on pkg2 with the same version as pkg1.

Note, that adding the Depends: entry just to fix this bug is not a
good solution. It's suggested that you include a real
/usr/share/doc/pkg1 directory within pkg1 and copy the copyright file
into that directory. If the packages do not share source code, then
pkg1 should have its own copyright file (since the authors of pkg2 are
not to blame for pkg1). This bit covers meta packages as well.

Refer to Debian Policy Manual section 12.5 (Copyright information) for
details.

,[ 12.5 Copyright information ]
| Every package must be accompanied by a verbatim copy of its copyright
| and distribution license in the file
| /usr/share/doc/package/copyright. This file must neither be compressed
| nor be a symbolic link. `
| ...
| /usr/share/doc/package may be a symbolic link to another directory in
| /usr/share/doc only if the two packages both come from the same source
| and the first package Depends on the second. These rules are important
| because copyrights must be extractable by mechanical means.
`

This is a bug filed due to a lintian warning (see above). However,
this has also been checked manually, and thus there should be no false
positives.

Filed as serious since it is a violation of a must directive in
policy, and also since a package with these flaws will
currently get this package rejected. See
  http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2009/10/msg4.html
for details. This means the package has been deemed too buggy to be in
Debian.

The code in question is:

if [ $action = install ]; then
cat 'EOF'
WARNING!

You MUST configure /etc/ifmail/config and probably /etc/ifmail/Areas,
otherwise you will generate messages with a wrong origin address.

Press Enter key to continue.
EOF
read junk
fi

So yeah, that'll never be triggered.

Downgrading the bug severity.

java-gcj-compat Depends: java-gcj-compat-headless (= 1.0.80-5.1) [...]

So there's no policy violation here, only a harmless indirection.

Leaving the bug open, since a lintian override will need to be added to the
package in the next upload, per the recent announcement regarding lintian
enforcement at archive accept time.

Bug#554349: [apt] Backtrace

2009-11-04 Thread Benjamin Eikel
Package: apt
Version: 0.7.24

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello,

I have the same problem. I tried to create a stack trace with GDB. What I have
is:

Core was generated by `/usr/lib/apt/methods/rred'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

#0 0x7ff59fb8060f in _IO_getline_info (fp=0x1fa4a30, buf=0x7fffc2711330 .

The last line repeats thousands of times. Maybe this helps, but I doubt it. I
do not know which debugging symbols are missing for #2 and following.

Package: epiphany-webkit

I just found out that epiphany-webkit does not even validate

IMHO this is a grave security issue. Users are exposed to
man-in-the-middle attacks and potentially even legal liability

Upstream bug filed at

Oh, and I just re-read kov's message to this bug. I'm happy to file
separate bugs for each issue. I just didn't because I thought it would
annoy everyone to do it that way. I'll try to do it this weekend when I
have some time. :)

Bug#541572: elisa-plugins-good: diff for NMU version 0.3.5-2.2

2009-11-04 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
tags 541572 + patch pending
thanks

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for elisa-plugins-good (versioned as 0.3.5-2.2) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/2, according to devref §5.11.1. The patch
replaces the dependency on python-gnome2-desktop (now gone) with
python-wnck (wnck is the only module of the old -gnome2-desktop that the
package uses, as reported at http://wiki.debian.org/GnomePythonSplitting
and double-checked by me).

Cheers.

Bug#533652: what about lenny? :)

2009-11-04 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi Roberto,

thanks for maintaining electricsheep!

533652 makes the package in lenny quite unusable, definitly for new
installations. Is the fix easy to backport for an stable update or do you
think it's better to remove electricsheep from lenny in the next
pointrelease ?

regards,
Holger

Bug#554088: [Jppy-devel] (fwd) Bug#554088: jppy - FTBFS: KeyError: 'TERM'

This bug is mine :-(

I added support of TERM in
http://jppy.alioth.debian.org/changeset/bae16bd60932db72de23eb09fc8691f8e41dce6a
But the build fails if TERM is not defined, as is the case in an

I just corrected the bug upstream in

temporary work around for this is to update like this as root (or using
sudo):

aptitude update -o Acquire::PDiffs=false

Did you try waiting 3 minutes?

I already waited for much longer.

I got into it and found out the problem is located in
/scripts/init-premount/udev.

I can manually reproduce it with these steps:
- boot with break=premount
- start udevd --daemon
- call udevadm trigger

udevadm never terminates.

Bug#533804: afnix: diff for NMU version 1.5.2-3.3

thanks

Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for afnix (versioned as 1.5.2-3.3) and uploaded it
to DELAYED/2. The patch simply drops workarounds specific to arm, as it
is no longer a release architecture. Thanks to Jonathan Niehof (Cc-ed)
for having prepared it.

Cheers.

This looks like you are using some old sources. This compile

Please check if you are really trying to compile the 3.0.10

Hello Faheem Mitha all other co-bug-reporters :)

First of all: Thanks for the report!

I have currently no time to dig into it a bit deeper,
(hopefully i can do it tonight or tomorrow)
but my first guess is an overflow of an internal variable:
 apt-get update -o Debug::pkgAcquire::RRed=1 -qq
results in 65,442 lines of output which is near the value
 of a signed integer (65,535).

A patch of this size (~9 MB) is a bit uncommon as it
is bigger than the complete download of the new file.
It would be good if APT could detect it... we will see. :)
[..]

Attached is a patch that should add detection for patches that are
bigger than the actual file to patch. Unfortuantely I can no longer
reproduce the failure. Testing/feedback is welcome.

Cheers,
 Michael

 * http://bugs.debian.org/199810
 * http://release.debian.org/removing-non-free-documentation
 * http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

The lenny/squeeze release policy says binary and source packages must each be
free:
 * http://release.debian.org/lenny/rc_policy.txt
 * http://release.debian.org/squeeze/rc_policy.txt

The severity is serious, because this violates the Debian policy:
 * http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-archive.html#s-dfsg

There are (at least) three ways to fix this problem. In order of
preference:

1. Ask the author of the RFC to re-license the RFC under a free
license. A template for this e-mail request can be found at
   http://wiki.debian.org/NonFreeIETFDocuments

2. Remove the non-free material from the source, e.g., by re-packaging
the upstream archive and adding 'dfsg' to the Debian package
   version name.

3. Move the package to non-free.

General discussions are kindly requested to take place on debian-legal
or debian-devel in the thread with Subject: Non-free IETF RFC/I-Ds in
source packages.

Thanks,
Simon

Bug#554457: Source package contains non-free IETF RFC/I-D

2009-11-04 Thread Simon Josefsson
Severity: serious
Package: libtheora
Version: 1.1.1-2
User: debian-rele...@lists.debian.org
Usertags: nonfree-doc rfc

Hi!

This source package contains the following files from the
IETF under non-free license terms:

  libtheora-1.1.1/doc/draft-ietf-avt-rtp-theora-00.txt

I suspect this is a variation of
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=393391 but that bug has
been archived.
