Do not make the request here -- we cannot do anything about it. I thought since this was the debian-devel list that the distro kernel maintainers would be monitoring and/or interested in obtaining official working versions of the source. I'm certainly not interested in trying to hunt down all the distro kernel maintainers. That would be a black hole. All you have to do is file a bug against kernel-source-2.2.18pre21. I've noticed some old posts on your web site w/r/t this driver. If the maintainer of the debian kernel is including this driver, he/she should contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] to make sure they have the latest version. It seems that the boot image of debian2.2r2 has not aacraid driver. If your still using the version snagged off of Red Hat's 2.2.16-22 kernel SRPMS, there has been a patch since then that fixes a memory leak. I would be more than happy to provide this patch to debian for posting on their web site or ftp site. Please let me know. Hmm, do you have the official web site of aacraid driver? I had been replied from Adam Di Calro http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot-0009/msg00576.html, however I couldn't find the official distribution site of aacraid driver. So I'v not to be able to reply to Adam. Recently, I had met some trouble on aacraid 1.0.3, so I changed to 1.0.6 (snaged off of rawhide's kernel-2.2.17-8.src.rpm) and it makes to be better. If official installer had it, I'm very happy (and maybe many people are). boot-floppies status from an insider (was Re: Deficiencies in Debian)
Stephane Bortzmeyer [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I am on debian-boot for a long time. The truth is that a lot of people are doing small things but nobody leads. No management. No decisions. I would agree with this. Enrique would probably appreciate someone taking over management and coordination of boot-floppies. The current package does not compile (for nobody) True. At least I just recently fixed my documentation stuff. and there are important design decisions (two are specially important: how to split the rescue disk for the larger kernel 2.2 and how to replace the old Tasks/Profiles system, which everybody criticiezs, but nobody replaces) which are pending. Untrue. Both of these are resolved but not completely implemented. Regarding boot/root, we've decided simply to build a 1.4k image for boot, and another 1.4k image for root. CD-ROM booting should be able to use a 2.8k El Torito (or equivalent) single image for both. TFTP shouldn't have a big problem with this scheme either. Regarding tasks/profiles, Martin Babinsky (sp) has spear-headed a meta-packages based effort, which seems to be on it's way. Now we need a new GUI to allow users to select their tasks and profiles, and then testing. In this flow, newbies can skip dselect altogether. Here's my unofficial boot-floppies TODO: * build for all supported arches * eliminate all dselect acquisition methods aside from apt and possibly mountable (for NFS, which apt doesn't handle -- socks also not handled by apt but I don't know if we care) * GUI for apt's sources.list configuration * GUI for tasks/profiles (see above) * better lilo configuration (borrow from slackware perhaps?) * close bugs! * nifty stuff like TFTP and and serial console installation should be supported on all possible architectures (TFTP images may require some software in Debian which is not currently available) * update documentation (too early to do this) -- .Adam Di [EMAIL PROTECTED]URL:http://www.onShore.com/

I'm definitely interested in seeing that all the XML tools that are needed will be packaged, as I plan to start working with XML myself ;) If you are interested in XSL, you should look at James Clark's free but java based XT and XP URL:ftp://ftp.jclark.com/pub/xml/ URL:http://www.jclark.com/xml/. XP is a pretty good XML parser that I hear a lot of people are using, and XT is probably the best free XSL processor currently available, and since its from James Clark, that's a good thing too. Most of the stuff people are actually using with XML works with SAX in some way, URL:http://www.megginson.com/SAX/, notable amonst which are XML4j from Alphaworks, SAX for Python, XP (see above), SAXON, and Koala XSL URL:http://www.inria.fr/koala/XML/xslProcessor/. This is just what I hear people using. My suggestion is that you just poke around at URL:http://www.xml.org/ or URL:http://www.xml.com/ or URL:http://www.oasis-open.org/cover/ and play around with stuff, then when you find the tool you want to use, go use it. -- .Adam Di [EMAIL PROTECTED]URL:http://www.onShore.com/

Well, I think you're in the minority. Most agree (including myself) that the vi emulation mode in ae does more harm then good. When we have a vi-alike which is small enough to squeeze on an oversqueezed floppy, then we'll consider it. Right now it's moot, because we don't. offered for adoption: addressbook
If anyone would like to take the 'addressbook' package from me, I would appreciate it. I don't really have the time and tcl/tk knownledge to maintain this package properly. There are a few outstanding bugs which are pretty minor; the big bug is to break up the package into the command-line and gui versions so those who have console only systems can still install the package (in a reasonable size). I do still use the package, so if no one asks for it, I will continue to try to maintain it. -- .Adam Di [EMAIL PROTECTED]URL:http://www.onShore.com/
intent to package: docbook-xml, simplified docbook-xml
Since I am interesting in having all the major free SGML stuff included into potato, I intend to package docbook-xml from Norm Walsh (which also includes the simplified docbook-xml DTD). *However*, I am extremely busy as well. If someone else would step forward to package these materials, I'd be happy to transfer my intent to them. Followups to [EMAIL PROTECTED] All of this talk about the Debian boot system is IMHO just debating society stuff. I have seen very few well thought-out, practical suggestions in this thread. Joey == Joey Hess [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Joey Steve Lamb wrote: Two seperate functions. Why are we trying to cram two seperate functions into one? Joey Good question. If we're getting very cramped (I'm sure we are Joey :-), it might be time to think about splitting the two. I can Joey see one very big advantage to using the same disk for two thing Joey though. It means that a new user, who has just installed debian, Joey magically has a rescue disk, without any extra work. If making a Joey rescue disk was an additional step, most newbies wouldn't do it. There is absolutely no way, in my mind, that we can remove stuff like an editor from the installation disk. Can you imagine the flak we'd get? The point is that we are talking about the rootdisk. Obviously, even just for installation (not rescue functions), a local editor is required (i.e., for editing fstab, or lilo.conf). The solution in my mind is to allow for the base system to be supplemented by a fatter base system, for people installing from media which don't have the tight constraints of floppies (i.e., TFTP, CDROM, ZIP, harddisk). Joey (It may also mean less work by the boot floppies guys. Or not - Joey if we used say, Tom's Root Boot as our rescue disk, we wouldn't Joey have to maintain all that stuff and could devote more time to Joey the basic install. I've heard very good things about Tomsrtbt.) Oh, I love Tom's Boot Disks -- they do really rock. I use and suggest them all the time. -- .Adam Di [EMAIL PROTECTED]URL:http://www.onShore.com/

Maybe because no-one's filed a bug report with this suggestion? phil Is there anyone out there that actually likes using ae in phil pretend-vi mode ? Therefore, it is appropriate that the agreed upon new maintainer would announce that here to. This is to prevent others from possibly investigating the source with an eye towards taking over maintenance. Of course, you can change maintainership without involving this list.
