Re: adding machines and dhcp groups
On 28 February 2010 16:25, Oded Naveh skili...@gmail.com wrote: Have you tried the procedure described in http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Lenny/Upgrades#DHCPserviceneedstorepaired ? It describes how to load an existing DHCP configuration into LDAP, though it varies from your situation where dhcpd connects and works with the LDAP server. Start at the line a. To load an existing configuration into the database: You'd need to execute steps 1-4 on your Etch tjener and 6-7 on your Lenny tjener. Step 5 would be very important in this case and may be done on any machine, so if you're not confident you'd may ask for review and advice before loading it. In the end I decided to weed out the old dhcpd.conf, which has been around since sarge. I copied and pasted the netbooks from dhcpd.conf into lwat one at a time (only 18 of them), wishing that there could be a comment field. The comments in dhcpd.conf really helped me to know what computer is where. I have re-installed the ltspservers and entered them in lwat as they were ready. There were only 3 printers, then the rest of the statics I am reinstalling/cloning over the next few days, so I'll just enter them gradually also. Still I would wish for a bulk import of machines, and a comment field for a future version. Re: Can the fluid-soundfont-gm recommend on fluid-soundfont-gs be changed to suggests?
[Toby Smithe 2010-03-01] I'm sorry about that; I must have overlooked it. I do systematically go through the bug tracker from time to time, but I've been fairly busy at the moment, so it must have fallen under my radar. I'll have a look today or tomorrow, and try and get something sponsored, including fixes for other bugs there, too. Great. Bug#570786: squeeze: The grub background image is not activated any more
I had a closer look, and the problem seem to be caused by the fact that grub2 is used in Squeeze. The current setup in debian-edu-artwork follow the behavour of grub version 1. I was unable to figure out how to set it up to use a background image with grub version 2. Nothing in the grub documentation in /usr/share/doc/grub*. Anyone know how to configure a background image for grub version 2? Bug#570786: squeeze: The grub background image is not activated any more
Hi, package grub2-splashimages will set a default wallpaper for grub2. In /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme you can change: WALLPAPER=/usr/share/images/grub/your_image.png .jpg and .tga work too. It's also possible to change the menu colours in the same file. Thank you both of you for providing clues on how to do this. As we do not want to edit other packages configuration files, but instead want to provide our own theme using a file in the debian-edu-artwork package. The only way to do this seem to be to provide the /usr/share/desktop-base/grub_background.sh file in our artwork package. It can for example have content like this: WALLPAPER=/usr/share/pixmaps/splash/debian-edu-splash.png COLOR_NORMAL=white/black COLOR_HIGHLIGHT=magenta/black I suspect we need to conflict with the other packages providing /usr/share/desktop-base/grub_background.sh. Might be a good idea to rewrite the grub scripts to allow other files to be used to specify the theme. That's a very kind offer, thanks. It usually takes me an ages to procure sponsorship.. Before I finally prepare a new package, could you advise on bugs 560775[1] and 566216[2]? My instinct is to keep using flac compression (it does reduce the binary size by a healthy amount), and add a couple of removal commands to the prerm. This would fix the former bug, but I'm unsure about the latter. [Toby Smithe] That's a very kind offer, thanks. It usually takes me an ages to procure sponsorship.. Before I finally prepare a new package, could you advise on bugs 560775[1] and 566216[2]? My advice would be to stop confusing dpkg and apt and leave compression to the normal .deb tools. Otherwise, the installer, apt, and other tools will continue to discover problems. I realise this will make the package bigger, but confusing the tools that we depend on is bound to cause problems. Bug#570775: squeeze: Samba fail to start on a main-server
[Holger Levsen] Filing with severity serious as Samba is one of the core services of the Debian Edu main server. This problem seem to be solved in the Squeeze version at the moment. At least debian-edu-test-install report this regarding samba now: success: ./samba: samba is running. success: ./samba: Netbios name service is listening on netbios-ns/udp. success: ./samba: Netbios session service is listening on netbios-ssn/tcp. success: ./samba: smbadmin account exists in ldap I suspect some LDAP issue was breaking samba earlier, but do not know. Perhaps this bug should be closed? I suspect it should be reassigned to debian-edu-config or debian-edu-install.
