This should solve the usplash issue. One is that usplash do not work with the video card on this machine. We can fix that by removing usplash when installing on a machine with this PCI device. The other is the grub issue, which I suspect is caused by the user of a USB stick during installation. This causes grub to be installed on the wrong device (the USB stick and not the hard disk), as documented on http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEdu/Documentation/Lenny/Installation#AnoteonsomeRAIDcontrollers >. Mountet up /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 to a new folder then mount --bind /dev /"new folder"/dev chroot into "new folder" mount /proc; update-grub && grub-install /dev/cciss/c0d0 Grub found the kernel. After that, reboot.
