vala / test suite failures on kfreebsd / ongoing transitions
Hi Sebastian, as you are probably aware, with the upload of vala 0.10 to unstable, the test suite failure [1] on kfreebsd has become a major issue. E.g. tracker requires valac to build, and as a result blocks the ongoing evo/eds transition, as tracker also builds an evo plugin. I suggested making the test suite failures non-fatal, but pochu was against that and would rather see the test suite failures fixed. Unfortunately my vala-fu is not strong enough. Could you please look after this or suggest how you want this to be fixed? Thanks, Michael [1] http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=589460 -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth? signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
gnome 3 minimize button (etc)
There's a lot of talk recently about the gnome devs going insane and removing the minimize and maximize buttons in gnome 3. Anyone know if this is only when using the gnome shell, or does it apply to metacity too? -Miles -- Bore, n. Re: GNOME 3 and panel applets

DO NOT PANIC: the current desktop with gnome-panel and metacity will remain as an alternative. Anyone wanting to troll about how gnome-shell sucks is invited to do so elsewhere, since the topic here is gnome-panel. The panel remains, but it will be a GTK3 / D-Bus panel. In its current state, it doesn’t support the good old GTK2 / bonobo applets, of which we have a lot in the archive. Upstream confirmed they don’t have time to support them for 3.0 unless someone steps up to do the job. This is only partially correct though. gnome-panel will remain, but in a heavily modified state -- the intention for the GNOME 3 version of gnome-panel is having it as a fallback in case gnome-shell isn't supported, and thus a lot of features will be gutted or altered to ensure that it behaves as similar as possible to gnome-shell. People who have been expressing concern about this have, reasonably enough, been told that gnome-panel 2.32 is probably what they really want. Are there any plans to provide this package? Are any of panel apps from gnome alternative gtk-using environments suitable? I periodically try out the panels from things like lxde, but so far they've been noticeably less nice than gnome-panel. If they continue to improve though, maybe a mix of gnome and non-gnome could be a reasonable gtk centric alternative to gnome's increasing wackiness? -miles -- Advice, n.
