From: Eric Dumazet eric.duma...@gmail.com Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2012 20:43:11 + Subject: [PATCH] atl1c: dont use highprio tx queue commit 11aad99af6ef629ff3b05d1c9f0936589b204316 upstream. This driver attempts to use two TX rings but lacks proper support : 1) IRQ handler only takes care of TX completion on first TX ring 2) the stop/start logic uses the legacy functions (for non multiqueue drivers) This means all packets witk skb mark set to 1 are sent through high queue but are never cleaned and queue eventualy fills and block the device, triggering the infamous NETDEV WATCHDOG message. Lets use a single TX ring to fix the problem, this driver is not a real multiqueue one yet. Minimal fix for stable kernels. Bug#638316: AW: Same problem here, running squeeze on VMware vSphere 5 ESXi
Hi Jonathan, unfortunately i dont know a reliable way to reproduce this. About a week ago we did run some performance- and loadtests which caused very high load over a period of more than 48 hours and nothing happened. This week we encountered the described problem on the database system, but only temporarily. One day before we had a crash of the application server, the stack traces there seemed to look quite similar. As i'm not a specialist in kernel development i thought it might be the same bug, but now i realized that there isnt any hint for blocking tasks. Instead there are lines like BUG: scheduling while atomic: sshd/22743/0x1001. So i think you are right and i should file one or maybe two separate bugs. Bug#666360: linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64: 3.2.0-2 breaks HDMI/DVI output on Dell Latitude E6410
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.13-1 Severity: important Hello, 3.2.0-2-amd64 fails to start X on my Dell Latitude E6410 when my DVI monitor is connected to one of the HDMI/DVI outputs on the dock station. KMS starts fine, but X later fails to start and I see something like failed to start CRTC:3 blinking on the screen. If I unplug the DVI monitor, no problem. If I switch back to the latest 3.2.0-1-amd64 I have installed, no problem. So something broke between 3.2.6-1 and 3.2.9-1, and it's still broken with 3.2.12-1. I don't see anything interesting in the debian changelog (the only i915 reference is for Sandy-Bridge while my machine is Westmere-based). I only see two references to i915 in the 3.2.7 upstream changelog, nothing in 3.2.8 or 3.2.9. I'll try with 3.2.7-1 from snapshot.d.o and reply here saying whether the bug is there too or not. The devices are: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Mar 19 15:42 /sys/class/net/eth0 - ../../devices/pci:00/:00:07.0/:1a:00.0/net/eth0/ lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Mar 19 15:42 /sys/class/net/eth2 - ../../devices/pci:00/:00:01.0/:0b:00.0/net/eth2/ So, if I read that right, eth0 is Intel, and eth2 is Broadcom. The desired network setup is, in interfaces(5) format: iface bond54 inet manual slaves eth0 eth2 bond_mode active-backup bond_miimon 100 iface xenbr54 inet static bridge-ports bond54 bridge-fd 0 address 192.168.54.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 iface vlan2 inet manual vlan-raw-device xenbr54 iface xenbr2 inet static bridge-ports vlan2 bridge-fd 0 address 213.202.97.156 netmask 255.255.255.240 gateway 213.202.97.145 This used to work for me elsewhere, however, on this machine it's broken as follows: Everything starts up fine, and the machine is perfectly usable (albeit I only used SSH) over the xenbr54 interface. However, over the xenbr2 interface, all the small network packets pass, such as ICMP, or the bringup and teardown of HTTP connections, but as soon as I try to actually GET something non-trivial over a seemingly established HTTP connection, the machine pretends it doesn't see that incoming traffic. Thanks again for tracking this down. Please test the attached patch against a 3.2.y kernel, such as the one from sid. For example, you can do so like this: # prerequisites apt-get install git build-essential # get the kernel history if you don't already have it. git clone \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git # fetch point releases. cd linux git remote add -f stable \ git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git # try 3.2.y git checkout stable/linux-3.2.y cp /boot/config-$(uname -r) .config; # current configuration make localmodconfig; # optional: minimize configuration make deb-pkg; # optionally with -jnum for parallel build dpkg -i ../name of package; # as root reboot ... test test test ... # hopefully it reproduces the bug. So try the patch: cd linux git am -3sc path to patch make deb-pkg; # maybe with -j4 dpkg -i ../name of package; # as root reboot ... test some more ... Alternative instructions are at [1]. IIRC, I've hade some ups and downs, but this seems to stick. Nowadays, I have other strangenesses in the power management department : my battery gave me brutal stops, an I had to replace it. A new battery seems ok now, but using te former one gives me strange results : unstable capacity indication (a topped oft battery is indicated as 89% full, Y have brutal stops at 30-40% iindicated load, etc...). I use this battery at home, and take the new one outside. But I am not (yet) sure that this is a software problem. HTH, Emmanuel Charpentier Curious, Jonathan ---End Message---

You mentioned before that when you reboot it, it boots normally. We have iDRAC on these systems and we have a video capture of the last boot. The file extension is .dvc file..I am not sure what kinda a player you will need to play this file..I have included three more screen shots of the whole panic and right before things started going wrong. Perfect, thanks. The image shows a NULL pointer dereference (for a field at offset 0x40) in elv_queue_empty+0x12. Merging with some similar reports, though I am not confident they have the same cause. I guess I would suggest testing with 2.6.32-34squeeze1 and 2.6.32-35 from snapshot.debian.org (or similarly searching through historical kernels to find which introduces the bug). Bug#666406: [3.1 - 3.2.13 regression] xhci_hcd prevents suspend
Adrian Friedli wrote: It's a regression indeed. 3.1.0-1-amd64 does not have this problem. Interestingly wake up on USB started working with 3.2. Yes, I don't think that's a coincidence. ;-) [...] Please attach lspci -vvnn, lsusb, and acpidump output and full dmesg output from booting the system. Cheers, Thanks. Could you also send dmesg output from the 3.1.y kernel for comparison? Cheers, Jonathan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble?
