Bug#670047: linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64: radeon card no longer detects connected TV
There is no recent mention of EDID parsing in the changelog, but I'm pretty sure that I've ran an earlier version of 3.2.0-2 succesfully on this box. I'll see if I can fetch some older 3.2.0-2 kernels to narrow down the search. Both 3.2.10 and 3.2.12 work fine. Browsing the upstream changelogs, I seeno mention of edid but several i2c updates, and one likely suspect (in the3.2.14 changelog): drm/radeon/kms: fix analog load detection on DVI-I connectorscommit e00e8b5e760cbbe9067daeae5454d67c44c8d035 upstream. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47007 My TV happens to be connected with a dvi-vga connector too. Currently trying to compile Debian's 3.2.15 without the e00e8b commit.
Bug#670047: linux-image-3.2.0-2-amd64: radeon card no longer detects connected TV
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.15-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, After updating the kernel, I no longer have a picture on my TV. This box acts as HTPC, the TV is the only display device I have. I do have picture in BIOS and Grub, but the TV switches to standby mode as soon as the kernel takes over (I'm assuming it's fed an unsupported mode). I first tried downgrading the xorg-video-radeon driver, but that had no effect. After that I tried booting the 3.2.0-1 I had lingering around; that version worked with both the old and new X driver, so the problem doesn't appear to be in X. The difference also shows in Xorg logs. The working kernel looks like this: [18.948] (II) RADEON(0): Output Composite has no monitor section [18.978] (II) RADEON(0): EDID for output DVI-0 [18.978] (II) RADEON(0): Printing probed modes for output DVI-0 [ snip lots of modelines ] The non-working kernel causes these X logs: [10.572] (II) RADEON(0): Output Composite has no monitor section [10.576] (II) RADEON(0): EDID for output DVI-0 [10.616] (II) RADEON(0): EDID for output Composite [10.616] (II) RADEON(0): Output DVI-0 disconnected [10.616] (II) RADEON(0): Output Composite disconnected [10.616] (WW) RADEON(0): No outputs definitely connected, trying again... Bug#669935: Debian Installer does apply keymap used during installation to resulting initramfs
Quoting Sebastian Pipping (sebast...@pipping.org): The problem is the same is users setup their console keymap to be something else than US *after the system installation*. Jérémy seems to understand that sentence but honetsly I don't. Could you elaborate? Sure. You install Debian by choosing a US keymap. Then, on the installed system, you reconfigure console-setup (dpkg-reconfigure console-setup) and pick for instance a German keymap. Then, the initramfs will also lack a german keymap to be setup when prompting you for the encrypted partition password. Which, in short, confirms that the problem is not in the installer itself (that does nothing wrt initramfs) but in the tools that create the initramfsor maybe in console-setup OTOH, when looking at dpkg -L initramfs-tools, I see a file named /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/keymap that is apparently meant exactly for this..:) signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#586995: KMS not working on ATI Technologies Inc M56P [Radeon Mobility X1600]
Teodor MICU wrote: I just tested this (linux image from stable-proposed-updates) and there is no change: the console is fuzzy during boot. Great, thanks for testing. How about the second question --- is the radeon firmware installed? You can find out with dpkg -l firmware-linux Just to be clear, if the bug is only reproducible when the radeon firmware is not installed, it would still be an important bug. That would just help us to know where to look. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-kernel-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#501134: RAW-pictures break down after copied on a crypted raid5
On Sat, 2008-10-04 at 17:01 +0200, daniel starzmann wrote: Package: linux-image-2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-486 Version: ? Hello, I have an extra-ordinary problem or perhaps an Kernel bug: I'm very sorry that we haven't responded to your bug report. It is clearly a serious bug, but your report seems to have been missed due to changes in package names. My Server: * Debian Etch (Kernel: Etch-n-half), Samba 3.0.24 * 500gb harddisk with a system and a data partition. Both are crypted with Luks (cipher:serpent-cbc-essiv:sha256) * Raid 5 crypted with Luks (cipher: serpent-cbc-essiv:sha256) * All partitions have the ext3 filesystem Client1: Notebook (Windows XP and Fedora) Client2: Desktop (Fedora) I did all tests from both clients My problem: I tried to copy RAW pictures (*.cr2 files) from a client to the raid5 partition with the following 4 different ways. 1. I exported the raid partition with samba and copied the pictures with Windows XP and the Windows Explorer 2. I copied the pictures through an smb-mount with Fedora with the cp-command 3. I copied the pictures with the scp-command (first initiiated from the client and then from the server) 4. I copied the pictures with the rsync-command (first initiiated from the client and then from the server) Thank you for the thorough testing. I checked the files after I had copied them with md5sum and I saw that the values where different to the values of the original files. The pictures where broken. They had lila stribes and where cutted in the half. I tried the same 4 methods and copied the pictures on the 500gb data partition and there where no failures or md5sum differences. Then I copied the pictures in an ssh shell with an normal cp-command from the local-partition to the raid5-partition. The md5sum values where the same, so this worked well. It might just be that in this case the files were read back from the cache (memory) instead of from the disk. So in my opinion the problem has to do with the crypted raid5. I tried to reproduce this failures with other files but i had this problem only with RAW (*.cr2 Canon) picture files. Perhaps related to the size of the files? I tried to repair my system with these 3 Methods: 1. fsck.ext3 -y /dev/mapper/md0_crypt 2. fsck.ext3 -c -p /dev/mapper/md0_crypt 3. server rebooted a few times I couldn't find out any failure messages in the log-files or at the booting. After many hours I found this out: With Kernel 2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-686, Kernel 2.6.24-etchnhalf.1-486 and Kernel 2.6.26-bpo.1-486 I could reproduce my Image-copy-problem. As I booted the older Kernel 2.6.18-6-486 I where able to copy the pictures with any of the methods above and the md5sum values where OK. Because of this I think its an Kernel problem. [...] That certainly seems to be the case. Do you know whether a later version (e.g. Linux 2.6.32 in Debian 6.0 'squeeze') fixed this bug? Ben. -- Ben Hutchings For every action, there is an equal and opposite criticism. - Harrison signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

My mail server is a DomU called mail, using ext4 for the root (and other) FS. A dist-upgrade on mail has upgraded the kernel to linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae, and at this point I started getting I/O errors during the boot process, as follows: --- Starting MySQL database server: mysqld[6.453894] end_request: I/O error, dev xvda, sector 4456704 [6.453919] end_request: I/O error, dev xvda, sector 4456704 [6.453964] Aborting journal on device xvda-8. Starting MTA: exim4. Starting IMAP/POP3 mail server: dovecot. startpar: service(s) returned failure: mysql ... failed! --- So I went ahead and installed wheezy on a brand new DomU, and this was repeated immediately when booting the machine after the installation completed. --- Starting NFS common utilities: statd[3.977392] end_request: I/O error, dev xvda, sector 4456808 [3.977415] end_request: I/O error, dev xvda, sector 4456808 [3.977470] Aborting journal on device xvda-8. When I reboot after these I/O errors, fsck is run and then the machine seems to be actually fine until the next reboot when it all happens again. For me, this is happening on xen DomU's, only when running linux 3.0.0-1-686-pae, only when using ext4 for the root FS. No problems when booting back to 2.6.39-2-686-pae. Please let me know what more specific testing needs to be done, if necessary I can test more platforms / flavors. I have observed nothing to suggest this is related to xen, it's just my platform here. -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.0.0-1-686-pae (Debian 3.0.0-1) (b...@decadent.org.uk) (gcc version 4.5.3 (Debian 4.5.3-3) ) #1 SMP Sun Jul 24 14:27:32 UTC 2011 ** Command line: root=UUID=8a1a7bca-b0e2-4714-baf1-b852eab25843 ro quiet ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: [0.016117] PCI: System does not support PCI [0.016120] PCI: System does not support PCI [0.016231] Switching to clocksource xen [0.017739] pnp: PnP ACPI: disabled [0.017742] PnPBIOS: Disabled [0.018820] Switched to NOHz mode on CPU #1 [0.018902] Switched to NOHz mode on CPU #0 [0.020460] PCI: max bus depth: 0 pci_try_num: 1 [0.020696] NET: Registered protocol family 2 [0.020967] IP route cache hash table entries: 8192 (order: 3, 32768 bytes) [0.021437] TCP established hash table entries: 32768 (order: 6, 262144 bytes) [0.021752] TCP bind hash table entries: 32768 (order: 6, 262144 bytes) [0.022063] TCP: Hash tables configured (established 32768 bind 32768) [0.022069] TCP reno registered [0.022077] UDP hash table entries: 512 (order: 2, 16384 bytes) [0.022100] UDP-Lite hash table entries: 512 (order: 2, 16384 bytes) [0.022469] NET:
