Bug#669314: NFS: kernel forces trailing slash for export in /proc/self/mounts
I had a couple friends over today and we made a trivial patch to remove trailing slashes. We do not know C and have never created a patch for the kernel before, so there is undoubtedly a better way to do it. However we hope this helps in your efforts. 0001-Fixes-trailing-slash-in-nfs-devname.patch Description: Binary data This patch was created from the offending commit (c7f404b40a366). Bug#687821: fails to ensure sufficient free space for kernel install
Package: linux Version: 3.2.0-3-amd64 Severity: important I have flagged this as `important' because (a) it impacts people using default settings from guided partitioning, and (b) it seems essential to be able to have at least two kernels installed concurrently, otherwise upgrades are impossible. However, it does not leave the system broken. This is a wheezy box that I set up a few months ago (not long before the freeze). During install, I used guided partitioning, and I accepted the default recommendations for root, which is not so big: root@wheezy1:~# df -lh / FilesystemSize Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/wheezy1-root 330M 266M 48M 85% / Now, running `apt-get dist-upgrade' chokes on updating the linux-image package. Two issues come to mind: a) are the kernel packages bigger in wheezy? does the guided partitioning need to leave more space so that people can have two kernels installed at any one time? b) why didn't apt-get detect the lack of space early on? # apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Bug#687791: sky2 (?) module leads to kernel oops with message about net/sched/sch_generic.c and dev_watchdog

Anyway, the important message is: 'NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (sky2): transmit queue 0 timed out' which basically means the hardware transmit path got stuck. When this happens the driver is called to reset the hardware, but this seems to have been unsuccessful as the driver log messages are repeated. Oh, I see. :-( The driver simply fails to work after this occurs, hence the reboots. As you say this is is not easily reproducible, I'm not sure how to make progress on it. Thinking about what might have made a difference: have you made any changes to the physical network connection recently (different cable or plugged into something different)? Was the room colder/hotter than normal when you started the computer? No, there were no obvious changes at all :-( It had worked fine, and then all of a sudden - it stopped. And then it took four attempts to work again. I've searched on the net for this bug, and found something related in the 2.6 kernels, but that bug seems to have been fixed in the current version. BIOS needs to program the base address for a 1-KB memory space. The dump shows that EXBAR is 0x, equal to the default value after reset; EFI doesn't initialize it. ata_piix uses pcim_enable_device() which enables this along with the I/O BARs. In systems based on the Intel SR870 platform the firmware does not initialize the EXBAR and pcim_enable_device() fails because the memory region 0x0-0x3FF cannot be allocated. The proposed patch adds ia64 arch-specific 'pci quirk' code. Since the patched Kernel doesn't see any memory resource of IDE hostadapter, it doesn't set the PCI_COMMAND_MEMORY bit in the CMD register; the EXBAR resource is *not* visible in the memeory space at all. Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.23-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, *** Please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? * What was the outcome of this action? * What outcome did you expect instead? I write here as I do not know to what package this problem belongs. I've purchased LENOVO ThinkPad L512 (2597AB2) laptop, and experiencing some problems with it in Linux. Particularly, after some time (it may be 10 minutes, or may be day) buttons Fn + F1, Fn + F2, ..., Fn + F12, Insert, Delete, Home, Volume+, Volume-, Volume Mute are no longer works (all button Fn+*), And it does so until one completely cuts laptop from the power (no AC, no battery) reboot or on/off cycle are unhelpful. Also CPU fan behaves strangely: automatic the system works with management of turns of cpu fan badly and can lead to an overheat. *** End of the template - remove these lines *** -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-3-amd64 (Debian 3.2.23-1) (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-8) ) #1 SMP Mon Jul 23 02:45:17 UTC 2012 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-3-amd64 root=UUID=aee6bc9e-43da-4725-ac9e-544a46e55f7f ro quiet pcie_aspm=force ** Tainted: PO (4097) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: [274015.749907] usb 2-1.2.7: Product: USB Optical Mouse [274015.752940] input: USB Optical Mouse as /devices/pci:00/:00:1d.0/usb2/2-1/2-1.2/2-1.2.7/2-1.2.7:1.0/input/input28 [274015.753330] generic-usb 0003:192F:0416.000C: input,hidraw2: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [USB Optical Mouse] on usb-:00:1d.0-1.2.7/input0 [281056.014780] atkbd serio0: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xf1 on isa0060/serio0). Bug#669314: NFS: kernel forces trailing slash for export in /proc/self/mounts
On Sep 16, 2012, at 7:00 AM, Ben Hutchings wrote: This was my first thought - but what if userland provides a device name with a slash on the end? I think we have to report it back with the slash in that case. That is a great point. We could not find any standard as to whether or not there should be a trailing slash. And from all the examples I could find, there seems to be a convention of omitting a trailing slash. However, if userland provides a trailing slash, it would seem appropriate to retain it. As a point of comparison, matching the given input is the behavior of 2.6.32-5 in Debian Squeeze. So I think your approach is better. -Chris smime.p7s Description: S/MIME cryptographic signature

Bug#687915: linux-image-3.2.0-3-686-pae: general protection fault when plugging in power on Asus EeePC 900
Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.23-1 Severity: normal I had the wireless card enabled for a couple minutes before noticing that the battery on this Asus EeePC 900 was rather low. I plugged it into wall power, and immediately as the battery started charging the following error message showed up on the screen (making my X11 session inaccessible): Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.074942] general protection fault: 0004 [#1] SMP Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.075059] Modules linked in: arc4 atl2 nfnetlink bnep rfcomm bluetooth crc16 binfmt_misc uinput fuse ath5k ath mac80211 cfg80211 loop joydev snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep snd_pcm_oss snd_mixer_oss i915 snd_pcm drm_kms_helper iTCO_wdt uvcvideo psmouse snd_page_alloc drm iTCO_vendor_support snd_timer i2c_algo_bit videodev snd media serio_raw evdev rng_core soundcore i2c_core battery eeepc_laptop ac video sparse_keymap power_supply rfkill processor button ext3 mbcache jbd btrfs crc32c libcrc32c zlib_deflate ohci_hcd sha256_generic cryptd aes_i586 aes_generic cbc usbhid hid usb_storage uas dm_crypt dm_mod raid1 md_mod sg sd_mod crc_t10dif ata_generic ata_piix ahci libahci libata scsi_mod uhci_hcd ehci_hcd usbcore thermal thermal_sys usb_common [last unloaded: atl2] Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076738] Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076771] Pid: 17665, comm: pidof Not tainted 3.2.0-3-686-pae #1 ASUSTeK Computer INC. 900/900 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] EIP: 0060:[c10caa62] EFLAGS: 00010206 CPU: 0 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] EIP is at sys_close+0x18/0x89 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] EAX: f25bc1b0 EBX: 0004 ECX: EDX: 00df Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] ESI: 0003 EDI: EBP: f25e8000 ESP: f25e9fa8 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] DS: 007b ES: 007b FS: 00d8 GS: 00e0 SS: 0068 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] Process pidof (pid: 17665, ti=f25e8000 task=f25bc1c0 task.ti=f25e8000) Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] Stack: Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] 0004 086715f0 c12c419f 0004 b76fcff4 086715f0 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] bfd1cdc8 0006 007b 007b 0033 0006 b7726424 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] 0073 0286 bfd1cd94 007b 0042904c 0042904c Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] Call Trace: Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] [c12c419f] ? sysenter_do_call+0x12/0x28 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] Code: d8 e8 d2 ef 02 00 89 d8 e8 16 21 00 00 89 f0 5b 5e 5f c3 56 53 8b 74 24 0c 64 a1 0c 4f 47 c1 4a 04 a4 02 00 00 8d 43 00 8b d2 4e 1f 00 8b 53 04 3b 32 73 56 8b 42 04 8b 04 b0 85 c0 74 4c 8b ff Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.076815] EIP: [c10caa62] sys_close+0x18/0x89 SS:ESP 0068:f25e9fa8 Sep 16 15:24:45 pip kernel: [35635.279291] ---[ end trace 5800fe6bc9a5d526 ]--- I was unable to even use ctrl-alt-f1 to switch vt's. However, ACPI triggers were working, and i could put the machine to sleep and wake it again. after wake, though, the laptop's screen still showed this spew and i couldn't change that with ctrl-alt-f1, or any trackpad activity. I did not have an external monitor handy to try out the VGA port. Using ACPI triggers, i was able to cleanly shut the machine down, and restart it. The graphics are fine after a restart. I'm happy to try to provide more details if you let me know what info would be useful. --dkg -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-3-686-pae (Debian 3.2.23-1) (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-8) ) #1 SMP Mon Jul 23 03:50:34 UTC 2012 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-3-686-pae root=/dev/mapper/vg_pip0-root ro verbose ** Not tainted ** Kernel log: [17078.216093] PM: suspend of devices complete after 347.687 msecs [17078.216407] ehci_hcd :00:1d.7: PME# enabled [17078.216427] ehci_hcd :00:1d.7: wake-up capability enabled by ACPI [17078.232098] uhci_hcd :00:1d.3: wake-up capability enabled by ACPI [17078.232134] uhci_hcd :00:1d.2: wake-up capability enabled by ACPI [17078.232169] uhci_hcd :00:1d.1: wake-up capability enabled by ACPI [17078.232204] uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: wake-up capability enabled by ACPI [17078.232272] PM: late suspend of devices complete after 16.171 msecs [17078.232393] ACPI: Preparing to enter system sleep state S3 [17078.256648] PM: Saving platform NVS memory [17078.257265] Disabling non-boot CPUs ...
