Bug#852505: linux-image-4.8.0-2-amd64: Realtek Ethernet controller vanishes on reboot

2017-01-27 Thread Andrea Zuccherelli
Hi, I allready tried with no kernel parameters set. I found those options
used in other Toshiba notebooks.

Following your request I tried again. I removed the post-down option and
those kernel parameters: the Realtek controller disappeared again.

The WIFI controller is PCI Express as the RTL8105e and it works flawlessly
:-)

I know, that's the same document I found.

It's rather sad that they haven't been packaged yet. Can you open an
ITP or RFP for them?

I've applied your proposed changes but I would like to remove the
legacy interfaces once gadget-tool is packaged.

Ben.

Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.2-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I upgraded to kernel 4.9 which just migrated into testing. Upon reboot
the system failed to get past "loading initial ramdisk". I added
"debug ignore_loglevel earlyprintk=efi, keep" to the kernel command line
and was able to capture a kernel panic. The panic appears to be in
efi_arch_mem_reserve.

I also tried the old standby command line options "nomodeset" and
"acpi=off" but they did not make a difference in this case.

This failure happens consistently. Kernel 4.9 as currently packaged is
incapable of booting this computer.

I will attach a photo of the kernel output. Sorry in advance for the
quality; my only camera is my phone and it's garbage.

Version: 4.9.2-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After upgrading my Thinkpad T440p to linux-image-amd64 from unstable (along
with linux-headers-amd64, linux-doc, linux-perf, linux-source and linux-tools),
I am unable to boot with the 4.9.2 kernel.

Right after GRUB times out, the screen goes blank and nothing happens.

According to this page

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=191121

There's already a patch that can be applied to 4.9.2 in order to solve the
issue.

At work I have a Lenovo laptop (not Thinkpad), and the system boots properly
with the kernel from unstable, so it seems to be a Thinkpad-only issue.

Hi,

Please can you enable CONFIG_SENSORS_ADM1031 as a module.

I have a Cavium Octeon board which needs this driver to be able to read
the CPU temperature / fan sensors.

Thanks,
James

Package: linux-image-arm64
Version: 4.9+78
Severity: wishlist

Linux commit 9822504c1, included in v4.7, introduced EFI framebuffer
support on arm/arm64.

The Debian arm64 kernel config currently explicitly sets CONFIG_FB to
'm', overriding the defconfig 'y'. Since CONFIG_FB_EFI is "depends on
(FB = y)", this means we don't get efifb support on arm64. So could we
flip it to 'y', please?

This would also be a nice thing to do on armhf, but affect fewer
platforms.

Hey.

There's an issue in NBD which prevents some larger images to be
correctly "connected" on the client side (if done by the kernel),
largely described here:
https://github.com/NetworkBlockDevice/nbd/issues/44

Thers's a patch at:
https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-block/msg07060.html
from Josef Bacik which seems to fix the issue (at least it does
so for me) but this will only go into 4.10.

So if 4.9 is the version for stretch, you might want to cherry
pick this, as suggested by Wouter Verhelst.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hi!

I am using a mixed system with 64bit Kernel and 32bit userland.

With linux-headers-4.8-0-2-amd64 this worked fine, I was able to install
the kernel headers and use dkms to compile out-of-tree modules such as
xtables-addons.

With linux-headers-4.9.0-1-amd64 switching its dependencies to
gcc-6:amd64 I am no longer able to do so.

And trying to install a 64bit gcc (and related tools) would effectively
uninstall half of my system.

Is running a 64bit system with 32bit userland no longer supported or did
I miss something obvious?

Grüße,
Sven.

Hi,

Would it be possible to include the x86_energy_perf_policy and turbostat tool
on x86 builds of linux-tools?

It allows you to set the x86 performance policy of the CPU, and a tool to
monitor the CPU states of recent intel processors.

Regards,

Rik

I thought about it, but frankly using g_ether and g_serial is so convenient.
it's a matter of "modprobe  g_ether && dhclient -i usb0". Using the modern
configfs way is quite a bit of more steps:

http://events.linuxfoundation.org/sites/events/files/slides/USB%20Gadget%20Configfs%20API_0.pdf

We would at least need libusbg and gadget-tool
(https://github.com/kopasiak/gt) included in
debian before deprecating.

Sorry to mess you around, but I wonder now if it really makes sense to
enable more of the legacy interface. If I understood correctly, the
configfs interface provides all the same functionality and more, and
userspace should be moving to use that.

Perhaps we should:
1. Enable the configfs interface in the top-level config
2. Leave armhf with limited legacy configuration interface support for
stretch (in case there are users that depend on it)
3. Disable the legacy interface post-stretch.

What do you think of that?

Ben.

There was a fix in 4.9.6 that changed symbol versions, but that was
avoidable. I've applied most of your requested changes in 4.9.6-1, and
prepared to bump ABI in the next upload. So all the rest can go in
now.

[PATCH] Consolidate gadget config

2017-01-27 Thread riku . voipio
From: Riku Voipio

If CONFIG_USB_GADGET is selected, enable all configfs functions as
modules and most popular legacy modules (ethernet and serial).
g_nokia left as armhf specific (Nokia N900 tradition)

Bug#852804: linux-image-4.9.0-1-amd64: tpm_tis kernel stack overflow on Lenovo T61

2017-01-27 Thread Niels Nowatzki
Package: src:linux
Version: 4.9.2-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

since the update to from 4.8 to 4.9 i encounter several problems on this
specific machine.
Most annoying is the fact that suspending the laptop doesn't work anymore.
Otherwise the System seems usable in the most parts.
There is a quite similar Bug Report on the other side of the fence:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1403444

I'm afraid I'm not so up to speed on Xen things since I changed jobs
last year, looks like people from xen-devel are already involved
