But the cause for the breakage is actually a (Debian) packaging change and I'm about to revert that ... New development: I now think it *is* an issue in firmware-brcm80211. I think it would still be good if the kernel would also check the `cypress` directory, but this seems to be a packaging issue. That's the reason my WiFi broke... I've enabled the non-free-firmware repository (for another unrelated issue with audio not working). It installed several packages and after reboot, wifi was not working anymore with kernel complaining about missing .bin file. A search in the archive pointed to bullseyes package as anything more recent doesn't include it. I'll test it again for completeness and send the result here. Thanks
