Bug#620603: linux-image-2.6.38-2-amd64: console still stays black with linux-image-2.6.39-rc5-amd64

2011-05-05 Thread Andreas Horter
Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.38-3
Followup-For: Bug #620603

Today I installed linux-image-2.6.39-rc5-amd64 from experimental and
got the same black screen as with 2.6.38-3.
Is there anything I can provide to get this fixed?

I remember trying to reproduce it at the time the bug was opened and
never managed to reproduce it.

I've a mips board with a m41t80 but can't use it atm so I've looked at
the code and there's no obvious troubles with the driver. In 2.6.38 and
newer kernels, there has been a bunch of rtc breakages. See the number
of crash fixes in [1]. I've made a kernel for dns323 with small changes
in order to help debugging. I plan to ping some bug reporter in order to
make him test it as I can't test it myself. I hope it'll help and
at least confirm it's really a rtc bug.

I can't comment on that one but at least, the solution of adding support
but not enabling it by default may be a solution.

hmm... I didn't notice this bug. The ARM options are enabled by default
like the other options. I don't know if it can have some side effects at
run time. I guess it should be fine otherwise some Kconfig patching will
be needed (I'm thinking of the ARMTHUMB decoder option)

Could you file a separate bug (since it seems you do not have identical
hardware to Ilmari), attaching dmesg output?

Also, do you remember what version did work (if any)? That can be
very useful information in a bug report.

Thanks,

Bug#624549: bug in radeon driver module of linux 2.6.38 (since 2.6.35)

2011-05-05 Thread Martin Teufel
Hi,

I want and have to rectify my last mail:
This patch is obviously not applied in 2.6.38-bpo.2 because I get:
[5.924366] drm: Unknown parameter `edid_strict'
Could you get this applied to the next version of a linux backport?

Best regards,
Martin

Thanks,

As 2.6.32-34 is now in stable-proposed-updates, I'm planning a test session
on this production server May 14.

It sounds like there are 2 bugs:

1. The kernel is reporting spurious changes in the connected displays
(hence the flickering between 2x3 and 2x4 workspaces).
2. There is a race condition in handling these changes in
gnome-settings-daemon which causes it to crash.

Therefore, please clone your bug report and reassign the clone.

Ben.

Bug#603066: linux-headers-2.6.39-rc5-amd64 depends on linux-kbuild-2.6.39

2011-05-05 Thread Alexandra N. Kossovsky
Hello.

Packages linux-headers-2.6.39-* in experimental are useless, since they
depend on linux-kbuild-2.6.39.

I do not use module-assistant, but I need kernel headers to build
third-party modules. If the only supported way to do it is to download
linux-source-2.6.39, then, possibly, linux-headers-* should not be
uploaded to experimental at all?

Thank you for your work in Debian!

I suppose we could disable them when packaging release candidates.

However it is usually easy to build the linux-kbuild package, per
.

Bug#625752: linux-latest-2.6: Add sys_accept4 to arm

2011-05-05 Thread Johannes Schauer
Package: linux-latest-2.6
Version: 2.6.32+27~bpo50+1
Severity: normal

the accept4 syscall is available since 2.6.28 - at least
for x86 architecture.
Support for accept4 on arm was added for 2.6.36 and the
patch is very simple:

commit 21d93e2e29722d7832f61cc56d73fb953ee6578e
Author: Mikael Pettersson
Date: Sun, 15 Aug 2010 09:47:23 +

I discovered that when updating udev from 167 to 168 (on
a 2.6.32 kernel). Udev from 168 onward requires accept4.

After applying the patch accept4 worked and so did udev.

Since accept4 is supposed to be in the kernel since
2.6.28 it should at least be put into the .32 stable
version for arm.

Sorry for the late followup.

Does this still occur with more recent kernels, i.e. the final Squeeze kernel or
more recent versions from backports/testing/sid?

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#624549: bug in radeon driver module of linux 2.6.38 (since 2.6.35)

So that leaves us with a puzzle: does that mean that 2.6.38-3~bpo60+1
fixed it (forgetting about the drm.edid_strict parameter for a moment)?

> Could you get this applied to the next version of a linux backport?

Ah, sorry I wasn't clearer before. The edid_strict patch is something
Alex had been thinking about but it is not in appliable shape (it does
not have strict enough buffer size checks to cope with e.g.
maliciously made hardware). And of course it's even better if it is
possible through a driver change to get an uncorrupted edid.

Hi,

no. Without drm.edid_strict=0 the error occurs (every 10 seconds ...).
With drm.edid_strict=0 given, the error doesn't occur but KMS gets
disabled (don't know why and figured this out only today, when I got to
the machine (did this test via a serial line behind a ssh connection on
tuesday).

Hm, I see (and agree).
So we/I'll wait for a fix from upstream.
I got back to drm_kms_helper.poll=0 for now.

Mm, I have read your report carefully enough yet, but: did you get any
response upstream? I would suggest filing a bug at [1], product DRI,
component DRM/Radeon, version unspecified (yes, this is the place for
kernel DRI bugs), mentioning which versions worked and did not work,
pointing to your lkml message and attaching logs.

That way one could be sure upstream knows about the problem. :)

If you do so, do please send us the bug number.

Thanks and regards,
Jonathan

Erm, what I mean is that I have _not_ read and investigated your

Uploading linux-2.6 (2.6.38-5)

2011-05-05 Thread Ben Hutchings
I intend to upload linux-2.6 verson 2.6.38-5 tomorrow. This will
incorporate 2.6.38.5, which fixes numerous bugs including local
privilege escalation bugs in the agp driver (CVE-2011-1745,
CVE-2011-1746).

Let me know if there's anything I should wait for.

Ben.

Bug#596468: linux-image-2.6.32-5-openvz-amd64: Keyspan USA-49WG USB-Serial 4th Port Doesn't Work

2011-05-05 Thread Steaphan Greene

On 04/30/2011 09:49 PM, Steaphan Greene wrote:

On 04/23/2011 03:41 PM, Moritz Mühlenhoff wrote:

it seems you didn't followup in the kernel.org bugzilla. Is this fixed
in current kernels from sid or testing?

Testing on a different computer, just plugging it in with a clean boot
on the same kernel version as before (that this bug was filed against)
immediately crashed the kernel (OOPS, followed shortly by a constant
terminal bell and no response to any input, not even numlock or SysRq).

Testing this device using linux-image2.6.38-2-amd64 from current sid
(v2.6.38-4) resulted in all 4 ports working perfectly. However, I only
could test them individually on that machine, so I can not confirm they
will work simultaneously as they are used on the real system. But, it
certainly seems better to me.

I will follow up once I get a chance to test this on the live system
with this new kernel version, but that may be a while. I suspect this
bug is now resolved, but I can't confirm this until then.

I found a window to reboot the main system using this hardware to test
this newer kernel, and it just went through a cycle using all 4 serial
ports on this device simultaneously, and worked perfectly.

So, I can confirm this bug has definitely been fixed as of the above
kernel package version (linux-image2.6.38-2-amd64 from sid 5 days ago).

Thanks!
