Bug#666506: linux-image-3.2.0: IDE support disabled
Package: linux-2.6 Version: 3.2.12-1 Severity: critical File: linux-image-3.2.0 Tags: patch Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, IDE bus modules are not included in newer versions of linux-image, including 3.2.12-1 and 3.2.13-1. * What led up to the situation? An update to linux-image-3.2.0-2. Using linux-image-3.1.0 IDE bus works. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Nothing. Simplely IDE support is not checked in kernel config: CONFIG_HAVE_IDE=y # CONFIG_IDE is not set * What was the outcome of this action? IDE devices are not recognized, so system is not bootable from an IDE hard disk. * What outcome did you expect instead? System recognize IDE devices. Patch (from linux-image-3.1.0-1 config file): CONFIG_HAVE_IDE=y CONFIG_IDE=m # # Please see Documentation/ide/ide.txt for help/info on IDE drives # CONFIG_IDE_XFER_MODE=y CONFIG_IDE_ATAPI=y # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDE_SATA is not set CONFIG_IDE_GD=m CONFIG_IDE_GD_ATA=y CONFIG_IDE_GD_ATAPI=y # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECS is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_DELKIN=m CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD=m CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDECD_VERBOSE_ERRORS=y CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDETAPE=m # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEACPI is not set # CONFIG_IDE_TASK_IOCTL is not set CONFIG_IDE_PROC_FS=y # # IDE chipset support/bugfixes # CONFIG_IDE_GENERIC=m # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PLATFORM is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_CMD640 is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEPNP=m CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_SFF=y # # PCI IDE chipsets support # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEPCI=y # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_OFFBOARD is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_GENERIC is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_OPTI621=m # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_RZ1000 is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA_PCI=y # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_AEC62XX is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ALI15X3 is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_AMD74XX is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ATIIXP is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_CMD64X is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_TRIFLEX is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_CS5520 is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_CS5530 is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_HPT366=m # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_JMICRON is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SC1200 is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PIIX is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT8172=m CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT8213=m # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_NS87415 is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PDC202XX_OLD is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PDC202XX_NEW is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SVWKS is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SIIMAGE is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SIS5513 is not set # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_SLC90E66 is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_TRM290=m # CONFIG_BLK_DEV_VIA82CXXX is not set CONFIG_BLK_DEV_TC86C001=m CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IDEDMA=y -- Package-specific info: ** Version: Linux version 3.2.0-2-amd64 (Debian 3.2.12-1) (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-1) ) #1 SMP Tue Mar 20 18:36:37 UTC 2012 ** Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.2.0-2-amd64 root=/dev/mapper/volumenes--md1-sistema--64 ro quiet ** Tainted: PO (4097) * Proprietary module has been loaded. * Out-of-tree module has been loaded. ** Kernel log: There is no error in kernel log, so I remove these lines. ** Model information sys_vendor: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. product_name: EP43-DS3 product_version: chassis_vendor: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. chassis_version: bios_vendor: Award Software International, Inc. bios_version: F3 board_vendor: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. board_name: EP43-DS3 board_version: x.x ** Loaded modules: pci_stub vboxpci(O) vboxnetadp(O) vboxnetflt(O) vboxdrv(O) acpi_cpufreq mperf cpufreq_powersave cpufreq_stats cpufreq_userspace cpufreq_conservative ipt_MASQUERADE xt_tcpudp xt_state iptable_nat nf_nat nf_conntrack_ipv4 nf_defrag_ipv4 nf_conntrack nls_utf8 nls_cp437 vfat fat xt_multiport iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables ppdev lp bnep rfcomm bluetooth rfkill binfmt_misc fuse nfsd nfs nfs_acl auth_rpcgss fscache lockd sunrpc kvm_intel kvm ext4 crc16 jbd2 ext3 mbcache jbd dm_crypt r128 drm loop firewire_sbp2 mt20xx snd_hda_codec_hdmi tea5767 snd_hda_codec_realtek tda9887 tda8290 snd_hda_intel snd_bt87x snd_hda_codec tuner tvaudio snd_hwdep tda7432 snd_pcm_oss msp3400 snd_mixer_oss bttv btcx_risc snd_pcm snd_page_alloc ir_lirc_codec tveeprom snd_seq_midi lirc_dev videobuf_dma_sg videobuf_core usblp snd_seq_midi_event ir_mce_kbd_decoder snd_rawmidi ir_sony_decoder joydev snd_seq ir_jvc_decoder v4l2_common videodev ir_rc6_decoder ir_rc5_decoder snd_seq_device v4l2_compat_ioctl32 ir_nec_decoder media snd_timer rc_core i2c_algo_bit parport_serial snd i2c_i801 pcspkr parport_pc parport psmouse i2c_core processor serio_raw thermal_sys iTCO_wdt evdev soundcore iTCO_vendor_support reiserfs raid456 async_raid6_recov async_memcpy async_pq async_xor xor async_tx raid6_pq raid1

Bug#666686: initramfs-tools: thinkpad_acpi does not load automatically if not in initramfs
Package: initramfs-tools Version: 0.101 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Recently the thinkpad_acpi module ceased to load automatically during boot. After further testing, it appears that the module will load automatically only if it is included in the initramfs (by listing it and dependent modules in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules). It was suggested[1] that this indicates a bug in initramfs-tools with the handoff from initramfs to the main system. I purged the initramfs-tools package and installed version 0.98.8 from stable, but the same symptoms remained. Note that it is a bit intermittent, but fails to load thinkpad_acpi ~90% of the time, so there may be a race condition present. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to troubleshoot this further. Thanks, Kevin 1. http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/pipermail/linux-thinkpad/2012-March/050618.html -- Package-specific info: -- initramfs sizes -- /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.3.0-kevinoid1 root=/dev/mapper/crypt0 ro quiet -- resume RESUME=UUID=3f0b2029-83fd-4d5c-b352-a64593e385fa -- /proc/filesystems ext3 ext4 fuseblk -- lsmod Module Size Used by vboxpci12349 0 vboxnetadp 5684 0 vboxnetflt 13671 0 vboxdrv 212020 3 vboxnetflt,vboxnetadp,vboxpci binfmt_misc 5107 1 kvm_intel 109239 0 kvm 196503 1 kvm_intel xt_owner 798 4 xt_mac 720 1 xt_limit1130 1 ipt_REJECT 1602 3 nf_conntrack_ipv4 8605 6 nf_defrag_ipv4 1021 1 nf_conntrack_ipv4 xt_state 870 6 xt_tcpudp 1698 27 iptable_filter 994 1 ip_tables 8250 1 iptable_filter x_tables 13135 8 ip_tables,iptable_filter,xt_tcpudp,xt_state,ipt_REJECT,xt_limit,xt_mac,xt_owner nf_conntrack_netbios_ns 837 0 nf_conntrack_broadcast 997 1 nf_conntrack_netbios_ns nf_conntrack 48840 4 nf_conntrack_broadcast,nf_conntrack_netbios_ns,xt_state,nf_conntrack_ipv4 ipv6 197699 26 fuse 52115 1 loop 11967 0 hdaps 7439 1 tp_smapi 16597 0 thinkpad_ec 4937 2 tp_smapi,hdaps coretemp4481 0 cpuid 1698 0 msr 1983 0 acpi_cpufreq4803 1 mperf 1015 1 acpi_cpufreq usbhid 20347 0 snd_hda_codec_analog62483 1 snd_hda_intel 18856 2 snd_hda_codec 68416 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_analog snd_pcm_oss25590 0 sr_mod 10185 0 snd_mixer_oss 10148 2 snd_pcm_oss cdrom 28183 1 sr_mod joydev 6904 0 snd_pcm53351 3 snd_pcm_oss,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel radeon600846 2 snd_page_alloc 6114 2 snd_pcm,snd_hda_intel arc41025 2 ata_piix 18695 0 snd_timer 14529 1 snd_pcm pcmcia 28160 0 i2c_algo_bit4066 1 radeon iwl394539702 0 drm_kms_helper 24462 1 radeon iwlegacy 48536 1 iwl3945 nsc_ircc 14769 0 mac80211 163718 2 iwlegacy,iwl3945 ttm47505 1 radeon uhci_hcd 16516 0 ehci_hcd 29840 0 irda 139047 1 nsc_ircc drm 162684 4 ttm,drm_kms_helper,radeon yenta_socket 16548 0 cfg80211 128609 3 mac80211,iwlegacy,iwl3945 e1000e111398 0 snd45510 9 snd_timer,snd_pcm,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm_oss,snd_hda_codec,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec_analog usbcore 115627 3 ehci_hcd,uhci_hcd,usbhid pcmcia_rsrc 6848 1 yenta_socket tpm_tis 7216 0 rfkill 12824 1 cfg80211 crc_ccitt 1291 1 irda i2c_i8016477 0 ac 2600 0 battery 9029 0 psmouse39040 0 soundcore 5130 2 snd pcmcia_core11866 3 pcmcia_rsrc,yenta_socket,pcmcia pcspkr 1334 0 video 10638 0 evdev 6453 8 power_supply7889 3 battery,ac,radeon tpm13491 1 tpm_tis rtc_cmos6849 0 i2c_core 18633 5 i2c_i801,drm,drm_kms_helper,i2c_algo_bit,radeon tpm_bios4088 1 tpm backlight 3496 2 video,radeon usb_common 757 1 usbcore processor 24982 3 acpi_cpufreq button 4145 0 sha256_generic 11279 4 thermal 6878 0 thermal_sys11862 3 thermal,processor,video hwmon 1295 3 thermal_sys,radeon,coretemp --

Bug#666386: igb + bnx2 + ifenslave + brctl + vconfig = largely broken
I bet this is due to the combination of LRO plus bridging. We try to turn off LRO in devices under a bridge, but that won't work if there's an intermediate bonding device. If you run: # ethtool -K eth0 lro off # ethtool -K eth2 lro off does the bridge start working?
