Hello Justin

Thank you!
I'm glad you helped me and that I didn't have to translate by myself or
by google translator.

With LXQt I still had some difficulties with the automatic change of the
wallpaper via the command line.

If I find the cause of the problem then I will add support for LXQt too.

Best regards

I imagine debian-legal will give you a better answer, but the reason is
to help users understand what the package allows and does not allow.

Just because someone can write software to download images does not mean
they are legally allowed to do so - as a debian user deciding whether i
want to use this package my first question when i read the description
was whether it was even legally allowed. And i also want to know whether
anything i download i can then reuse - if there is less freedom I would
want to know that upfront.

I think that Debian is a project by, and (to some extent) for, people
who cares deeply about doing the right thing with copyright licences.

As a user i appreciate that the project has thought about this so i
don't have to - so thank-you for considering it!

This sounds like something you'll need to ask debian-legal about. If
it was "Microsoft Bing, Windows Spotlight, or the Internet Archive"
then you'd be more likely to get away with it...

Probably then it should have "X wallpaper" in the synopsis.

You're sure it supports KDE and LXDE but not LXQt?

Except that there's a problem with "them" here, because it doesn't
mean that it saves the servers or image sizes. We could just say

(Redundant "directly", and an excess space, though it'll automatically

That's a strange phrasing; I'd suggest something like

Dear Richard Lewis

Thank you for your work and informations.

As for the copyright thing, I still have to think about it.
As I have seen, there are various applications and websites
on the internet that download the photos from Bing.
As I have seen, each picture has its the copyright by his owner.
This copyright is included in the description of the daily image.
Every description (with copyright) about the image is stored in
a database, which is managed by my application.
I am currently in contact with Microsoft regarding the copyright.
But I see no reason to refer to the copyright of the daily picture
in the package description?

2022-10-07 Thread Patrice Coni

Hello Justin

Thank you very much for your promt reply and for your
work!

It's usually easier to start from the actual file that the .pot file
is generated from. This would mean I wouldn't need to convince my
system to ignore the attachment description "MS-Powerpoint
presentation", and more important I'd know what it was trying to be -
is this the proposed package description?

Yes, it is the package description.
All right, I'll attach my control file in the future.

Oops, I'd noticed that but forgot to do anything about it. Yes; I was
assuming it was a *source*, like Bing, but in fact it's a "feature" of
the Windows desktop that helpfully inserts stock photos and adverts on
your lock screen unless you actively prevent it. So it's not exactly
true to say that these wallpapers are *from* Windows Spotlight - the
source is really some URL under . Is that too
pedantic to matter or should it perhaps be strategically vague and
just talk about using "the Microsoft Bing or Windows Spotlight daily
picture" as wallpaper?

You describe it very aptly. It's a feature.
I didn't have the words to describe it correctly.
Correct, my application will download the pictures
directly from arc.msn.com and from www.bing.com

As I have seen, each image has its the copyright by his owner.
This copyright is included in the description of the daily image.
Every description (with copyright) about the image is stored in
a database, which managed by my application managed.
But I don't refer to it in the description.

but then again I'm not sure what it would look like.

Correct, the Application its not tested on Wayland at the moment.

The application only supports the mentioned desktops.
I paraphrased it in the description so as not to list every desktop.

Good idea. "Set X as Y" can be grammatical, but it's more effort to
process than "use X as Y".

I suspect the target audience for this package is Windows refugees who

It might just mean "should it pull from bing.com or msn.com?", but I
think it allows you to choose, say, the US rather than Chinese server.

I'm fairly sure it has to download them to display them even once.
But now that we're working on reducing the wordage, the really short
option is:

offering a selection of servers and
image sizes, and caching them for reuse.

Since it doesn't seem to be a Debian package yet I was ignoring
questions like whether it would be in main or contrib or REJECT as
outside d-l-e's jurisdiction. The last few Bing images are at least
available for any web user to look at, but I don't see a "come and
root through our freely licensed back catalogue" link - looks as if
they once offered some sort of archive, but closed it down back in the
noughties.

And I don't believe it automatically bypasses any proxy server I've
got mediating my Internet connections, so the "directly" should
probably go as well.

 daily

If this is the package short description, it follows almost all the
rules except it doesn't need a capital "D" in "Daily".

> DailyDesktopWallpaperPlus is a utility to set the daily picture from Bing or

Good start.

> The application allows one a selection of

"Allows one" is usually a warning sign that you'd be better off
without the word "allow"; here it might as well be
It offers a selection of servers from Bing
(you can't have a selection of one server, so "several" is redundant).
But what are "servers *from* Bing"? Does this just mean "Bing servers"?

> Likewise, the daily
> picture can be obtained from a server of Windows-Spotlight and can be used

In fact given that the first sentence already mentioned "from Bing or
Windows-Spotlight", these two seem an unnecessarily longwinded way of
saying "...offering a selection of servers".

(Why would anyone want to pick a different server, anyway? Is this
about download speed or do they vary in content?)

> The photos can be downloaded in different sizes. The
> images that have already been downloaded can be reused as wallpaper at any

It could just say:

offering a selection of servers and image
sizes, and caching them so that they can be browsed and selected for reuse at
any later date in DailyDesktopWallpaperPlus's selection tool.

> DailyDesktopWallpaperPlus changes automatically the wallpaper on on K
> Desktop Environment (KDE) Plasma 5, Cinnamon, XFCE4, MATE, LXDE, Budgie and
> Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE).

Does this mean that all these DEs include a standard infrastructure
for wallpaper-changing that DDW+ can just plug into? (Not being a DE
or indeed wallpaper user myself I'm unfamiliar with the details.)

I need to at least fix the grammar of the first line, but is it a good
idea to commit yourself to maintaining an accurate and up-to-date list
here?  (For a start, "K Desktop Environment" stopped existing in 2009;
it's just "KDE" now with no expansion.) If we know that it *doesn't*
work on DeepinDE, GNOME, and LXQt, could you say "all DEs that
provide" whatever it is, and then have it all work via dependencies?

(I imagine it would be possible to use DDW+ *without* a DE by calling
some executable in my Fvwm setup?)

More importantly, I don't see any mention of X11 or Wayland. Does
this package work on both? If not, it needs to say so.

> For each picture, further information can
> be obtained directly from the Internet with just one click.

This feature belongs in the feature list that went before the DE
compatibility note. Making it something like:

daily picture from Bing or Windows-Spotlight as wallpaper

DailyDesktopWallpaperPlus is a utility to set the daily picture from Bing or
Windows-Spotlight as wallpaper, offering a selection of servers and image
sizes, and caching them so that they can be browsed and selected for reuse
at any later date in DailyDesktopWallpaperPlus's selection tool. Further
information for each picture can be obtained directly from the Internet with
