Ciao Giacomo,

i file .po dei debconf si possono più facilmente scaricare dalla
pagina web corrispondente oppure si può lavorare su quello mandato in
lista dal manutentore del pacchetto.

Tradurre con un editor di testo normale (senza addon appositi) è
sconsigliato anche a chi conosce bene i file .po (a parte piccole
modifiche). Si rischia di rendere il file non valido. Ci sono
programmi appositi anche in Debian: poedit, virtaal, gtranslator

Non hai fatto alcun casino. Solo un po' troppo entusiasmo :)

C'è molto da tradurre, qualcosina da imparare per farlo. Un'altra
mano fa sempre piacere. Un aiuto in più fa sempre comodo, la lista è
silenziosa, ma c'è.

Come ho detto se vuoi prenderti in carico questo non c'è
problema. Eventualmente fammi sapere cosa decidi.

Altrimenti puoi guardare nell'elenco qualche altro debconf
senza padrone, provare un programma per traduzioni che ti torni
comodo, mandare la traduzione per la revisione in lista ... e così
via.

Un'altra opzione per iniziare è aiutare con le traduzioni delle
descrizioni dei pacchetti, tramite il sistema DDTSS.

Thank you for your comprehensive reply.
As stated in the first email I had no idea of what I was doing,
I only recently joined the wonderful world of open source(~ 2yrs)
software as a "leecher" and wanted to give back some to the communities
that are behind my favourite projects(with Debian being THE project).
So I ventured straight into a Google search and searched literally "how
can I help Debian?", one of the first answers that you get is https://w
ww.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/l10n.html , so I went
straight into the "September 2017" mailing list archive and saw his
email asking for help, then I made a huge mistake: seeing the first
mail's date(2 Sep 2017) and that it was not yet answered I went
directly to ejabberd VCS copied the master branch .po file and started
to edit it using a simple text editor(Vim), I've used sed to replace
the Last Translator field thinking that it was like "Last commit for
this particular file" and then added my name at the top because I seen
in other places the habit to put the translators inside a MAINTAINERS
file or directly at the top of the file being modified.
So I edited it, and sent to the list thinking that the translation was
not already assigned "8.3.1 How to help the translation effort" told me
to check but probably seeing the original mail unanswered made me think
that it was lacking a contributor.
Sorry guys for the disturbance caused, I will try to be more
considerate in the future.

come promesso un secondo messaggio per spiegare alcuni dettagli.

Incidentalmente, mi accorgo solo ora che comunque il messaggio che hai
mandato prima non aveva Philipp tra i destinatari, come non lo ha il
mio in inglese dato che ho fatto un "rispondi a tutti" senza
controllare.

Come ho detto (in inglese) è buona norma controllare che una
traduzione non sia già assegnata a qualcuno prima di lavorarci.

Incidentalmente questa è assegnata a me. Non avrei nulla in contrario
a cederti questa, ma la traduzione che hai inviato ha alcuni errori e
deve essere prima revisionata. Comunque in futuro prima di lavorare ad
una traduzione altrui, chiedi se chi è l'attuale traduttore vuole
continuare ad occuparsene. Si evitano così spiacevoli incidenti e
soprattutto lavori doppi, perché se chi ne è il "legittimo
proprietario" nel frattempo ci lavora tu rimani con lavoro doppio
fatto per niente.

Tra l'altro ci sono diverse traduzioni debconf ancora in cerca di
padrone a cui si può lavorare.

Per quanto riguarda la tua traduzione, non so se sei partito dal file
.po già parzialmente tradotto (l'ultimo che avevo inviato io e quello
inviato da Philipp); mi sembra di sì.

Di seguito trovi la mia revisione. Se ti vuoi prendere in carico la
traduzione di consiglio di fare le correzioni e poi inviare comunque il
file per la revisione sulla mailing list con messaggio RFR
(https://www.debian.org/international/l10n/pseudo-urls) con oggetto
"RFR po-debconf://package-name/it.po

Aspettare eventuali revisioni, inviare la traduzione in un bug report
su ejabberd con priorità wishlist, tag l10n e patch (come indicato
nella pagina sulle traduzioni dei debconf) . Una volta ottenuto il
numero di bug, inviare in lista il messaggio BTS (vedi pseudo-url di
prima). Se guardi negli archivi della lista puoi vedere nei vecchi
messaggi degli esempi.

NOn so se hai usato un programma per file .po. La parentesi va
rimossa. Era presente nel vecchio messaggio (quello che inizia con un
carattere di commento). Nel messaggio aggiornato la parentesi non c'è
quindi va tolta anche dalla traduzione.
In italiano direi  hostname -> nome host (era così).

italiano non si dà mai del tu (tranne poche eccezioni) all'utente. Si usa 
l'impersonale o, se proprio non si può, si usa il "voi".

Hi Giacomo, Philipp, and list members,

Philipp, I am the current translator of this debconf and I would ask
to wait to include this translation until a proper review is
made. Thanks

Giacomo, as you can see from the original request of Philipp this file
already had a designated translator (me in this case, incidentally).

The correct process is to find a translation who currently has no
translator. Moreover any translation should be submitted for review in
the Italian mailing list. Your file for instance has some minor
errors.

The correct procedure is also after the translation is reviewed to
send it as a bug report to the corresponding package.

ejabberd 17.08-1: Please update debconf PO translation for the package ejabberd

Hi,

the translations for the ejabberd package in your language are incomplete.
New templates have been added and existing ones have been changed.
Now several messages are marked "fuzzy" in your translation and others are
missing completely.
I would be grateful if you could take the time and update it.
Please send the updated file to me, or submit it as a wishlist bug
against ejabberd.

I will update the package as I receive updated translations, so there is no
deadline.
If you are aware of my previous request a few days ago, this one
supersedes it. I have updated/removed invalid email addresses for the last
known translators and l10n teams.
