Re: netcdf packages

The question remains on how we can move this forward in a sensible

What is your opinion on this?

Matching upstream structure makes sense. But you will have to consider the
impact on the packages that depend on netcdf-bin:

$ apt-cache rdepends netcdf-bin
netcdf-bin
Reverse Depends:
  netcdf-bin:i386
  v-sim-plugins
  libnetcdf-dev
  minc-tools
  science-nanoscale-physics
  science-meteorology-dev
  science-dataacquisition
  gis-workstation
  gis-remotesensing

The question is: how to avoid breaking the above package when upgrading netcdf
to netcdf-c, netcdf-fortran, netcdf-cxx ?

Hope this helps

Re: Would you like to help get MariaDB 10.0 into Debian? (Debian Developer wanted)

2014-03-28 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
Hello!

Help offers are still accepted for this one :)

I will be idling on #debian-mysql today and this weekend if you want
to chat. I will offer all help I can to the DD who wants to get
involved. This could be a nice two hour weekend project for somebody
looking to make some cool thing with a big impact. MariaDB 10 is
likely to inherit from MySQL the position as the worlds most popular
database soon, and a lot of people are going to install it via Debian
and derivatives.

2014-03-25 16:28 GMT+02:00 Otto Kekäläinen o...@seravo.fi:
 Hello!

I am the packager of MariaDB 5.5 in Debian, which is now in testing. I
have been sponsored by James Page and Clint Byrum and I am thankful
for their efforts. Unfortunately neither can at the moment allocate
more time to review my additional packages.

Therefore I am asking here: are YOU a Debian Developer who would like
to see MariaDB 10.0 in Debian?

The packages are already done and they are based on the (already
accepted) packaging of MariaDB 5.5. Details and more pointers can be
 found at: https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/MySQL/MariaDBPlan

I would now need a DD who could review the differences between my 5.5
and 10.0 packaging and then upload 10.0 to experimental. Later when
10.0 is officially released (it is still just a release candidate /
beta) upload to unstable could be made.

The differences are really small, mostly renaming 5.5-10.0 and then a
addtional files in the packages and then some old files split into two
new packages. The repos to compare are located at
 http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-mysql/mariadb-5.5.git and
 http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-mysql/mariadb-10.0.git

Check this out to get an idea what you would need to review:
 http://i.imgur.com/OmGS4Kh.png

Please contact me directly or mail the
pkg-mysql-ma...@lists.alioth.debian.org list if you want to see
 MariaDB 10.0 in Debian.

 Thanks!

 - Otto

Version after patching

2014-03-28 Thread W van den Akker
Hi,
I have a package which have version 2.2.17-1.
I applied a patch on the mainstream source code which closes a bug.
Should the new version then be 2.2.17-2, or something else?
The package is not yet in stable.

Greetings,
Willem

Bug#742894: Incomplete debian/copyright [was: Uploading package(s)]

2014-03-28 Thread Boris Pek
Package: jabberd2
Version: 2.2.17-1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 12.5
X-Debbugs-Cc: debian-mentors@lists.debian.org

Hi,

Is someone willing to upload the new version of the package?
 It close a bug.
 The package is here: git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-xmpp/jabberd2.git

At first you should fix lintian error tag:
  E: jabberd2 source: source-is-missing docs/code/jquery.js
In other case this package will be rejected by buildd bot after upload.

Next you should update debian/copyright: it is not full now.
For example, there are no such copyright holders in it:
  Tomasz Sterna
  Adam Strzelecki
  Free Software Foundation
  Internet Software Consortium
  Aladdin Enterprises
  BBN Technologies Corp.
  Kungliga Tekniska Hgskolan
  X Consortium
  Christof Meerwald
  Lucas Nussbaum
  Ubiquecom Inc
  Harald Braumann
  Cryptography Research, Inc.
  Daniel Willmann
  Kevlin Henney
  Nicholas J Humfrey
  SKC, Inc
  The Apache Group.
Also there are files under different licenses and they should be described
properly.

Best regards,
Boris

Re: Uploading package(s). (was Version after patching)

2014-03-28 Thread Boris Pek
Hi,

if also possible upload this one. It removes a obsolete dependency
 git://anonscm.debian.org/pkg-xmpp/jabber-muc.git

Let's see:
-Recommends: jabberd14 | jabberd2
+Recommends: jabberd2

I do not think that such small change requires upload.

Small note: I have fixed tiny typo in debian/copyright (see 8c6359c),
do not forget to run `git pull`.

Best regards,
Boris

The package is not yet in stable.

If you upload an updated package, it needs a higher version than already
present in the archive.

Using -2 sounds right.
