Jakub's fix is the right fix. I thought you were using the original
upstream versioning scheme and now they had changed to something else,
hence my suggestion to adopt that "something else" if that was to stay.

The upstream versioned was 2013-09-15, and you had uversionmangle rule
to get rid of hyphens.

All you need to do is to update the uversionmangle rule so that it gets
rid of dots instead.

The scheme Debian currently uses is good enough.
And to change it, you'd have to add epoch. Nobody likes epochs.

watch file mangling help

2015-10-17 Thread Ross Gammon
Hi,

Upstream have changed one of my package's versioning on the tarball
(http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/collab-maint/abcmidi.git).

The last uploaded version was 20150908 and now there is an upstream
tarball with the version "2015.10.08".

The watch file was simple:
version=3
opts=uversionmangle=s/-//g \
http://ifdo.pugmarks.com/~seymour/runabc/top.html abcMIDI-(.*)\.zip

But now a uscan --repack tells me that:
Newest version on remote site is 2015.10.08, local version is 20150908
 => remote site does not even have current version

I am not sure what I should be mangling here, uversionmangle, or
dversionmangle, or both.

Before I just download the tarball manually and be done with it, I
thought I would check if someone could help with a more elegant solution.

Cheers,

Ross

Why are you keeping the old versioning scheme if upstream has changed to a
different scheme? Will they change back?

At first sight, my choice would be to change epoch and adopt the new
versioning scheme :-?

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "polyml"

* Package name: polyml
  Version : 5.5.2-0.1
  Upstream Author : David Matthews
* URL : http://www.polyml.org
* License : LGPL-2.1+
  Section : interpreters

It builds these binary packages:

  libpolyml-dev - development files for Poly/ML, a compiler for Standard ML
  libpolyml6- runtime files for Poly/ML, a compiler for Standard ML
  polyml- interpreter and interactive compiler for Standard ML

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/polyml

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/p/polyml/polyml_5.5.2-0.1.dsc

More information about polyml can be obtained from http://www.polyml.org.

Changes since the last upload:

  * Non-maintainer upload
  * New upstream version
  * Removed libtool .la files
  * Rename libpolyml1 to libpolyml6
  * Bump up Standards-Version to 3.9.6
  * Bump up debian/compat to 9, and use dh_prep over dh_clean -k
  * Enabled build hardening with dpkg-buildflags
  * Made descriptions more consistent

The maintainer has not updated this package in years. Various people including
myself have attempted to contact the maintainer
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=561763), but these have
failed, so I have packaged it myself to hopefully move things along.

James Clarke

are going forward. But I probably should remove both hyphens and dots to

Hi Zorian,

wonderful!

sorry for the long wait, but I was really busy in other sponsoring :)

I did a final review of the package, and it was looking good.
(I couldn't finish the first level, but that's another story :p )

some nitpicks I would like to see addressed in a future release:
(please forward patches upstream too and link them in the patch header)

- use of dh_install features to exclude "xcf" files.
man dh_install can give you the answer, but I didn't check if it works :)

alternatively you can do something like
find debian/edgar-data -name "*.xcf" -delete
that should be more compact.

- another issue is to add some flags

LDFLAGS missing (-fPIE -pie -Wl,-z,now):
CFLAGS missing (-fPIE):

Re: [jitsi-dev] Jitsi in Debian

2015-10-17 Thread Ximin Luo
+debian-mentors for more comments/help

Hi, thanks a lot for the information and pointers! The documentation on why
you're bundling various source packages is very useful. I see you also have a
similar setup in
https://github.com/jitsi/libjitsi/tree/master/resources/install/debian

I've played around with the build processes and have some comments:

1. You're only building a .orig.tar.gz, but Debian source packages require a
.dsc (source package description file) and a .debian.tar.gz (debian packaging
contents). After you create a full debian source package that includes all
three files, you can then get rid of all of the "debian binary package" stuff
from your build.xml scripts, and use the proper debian developer tools instead
(e.g. dpkg-buildpackage, etc.

2. In both libjitsi and jitsi: you build up a tmp directory that contains all
the sources for a debian package, out of which you build a .orig.tar.gz, but
then clean (delete) the whole directory, without trying to create .dsc or
.debian.tar.gz from the other files.

3. After applying the patches from [1] below, and running "ant deb-src
-Dlabel="[*], then moving the .orig.tar.gz to the same directory as the
temporary jitsi/libjitsi source tree, I can run `debuild -S` inside the
temporary source tree. This is the *correct way* to make Debian packages.
However, the process fails, for both libjitsi and jitsi. See [2] and [3].

The TL;DR is that it looks like your debian/patches/ are out-of-date, and I'm
not familiar enough with the code base, to spend the time right now to debug it.

So I wonder, who has been generating the .dsc/.debian.tar.gz files that you've
been submitting to Debian FTP? I have been unable to create one myself from
your git repos.

In fact, it is better to keep the debian packaging files (i.e. debian/*) in a
separate repo, in the top-level directory of the repo. Then, one can generate
.orig.tar.gz from the main jitsi/libjitsi repos every release, then import them
to the Debian packaging repos. This is a very standard pattern for Debian
packaging, supporting by the git-buildpackage tool, see for example [4] where
it says "Imported Upstream version" etc. This would be cleaner and cheaper than
effectively re-implementing (and maintaining) the Debian toolchain in build.xml.

> AFAIK the reason why libjitsi is/was blocked is the license for the
> javax.sdp/javax.sip API files

Do you have some more details on that?

Bug#802140: RFS: django-jinja/1.4.1-2 -- Jinja2 templating integrated in Django

2015-10-17 Thread Edward Betts
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "django-jinja"

 * Package name: django-jinja
   Version : 1.4.1-1
   Upstream Author : Andrey Antukh
 * URL : https://github.com/niwibe/django-jinja
 * License : BSD-3-clause
   Section : python

It builds those binary packages:

  python-django-jinja - Jinja2 templating language integrated in Django
  python3-django-jinja - Jinja2 templating language integrated in Django
(Python 3 version)

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/django-jinja

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/d/django-jinja/django-jinja_1.4.1-1.dsc

Changes since the last upload:

  * Update Vcs-* control headers.
  * Remove unused Build-Depends.
  * Fix mistake in description of python3-django-jinja.
  * This package doesn't include a test suite. There is one in the the
upstream git repository but it isn't included in the release tarball. The
Python 3.5 unittest modules tries to load the module even if there is not
test suite. This fails because the module isn't designed to be run outside
django. Disable dh_auto_test. (Closes: #801932, #802066)

Regards,
--
Edward.

I have subscribed to debian-science as well.

I have uploaded 5.5.2-2 to mentors (and updated my git repository) enabling all
hardening flags. I also realised that the new polyc shell script requires gcc
and libffi-dev to produce standalone executables, so I have added those as
dependencies for polyml.

Should I push my changes to debian-science/packages/polyml.git (especially
since that’s the repository in debian/control)? Also, going forwards, if I want
to get a new version uploaded, do I need to file a new RFS “bug” against
sponsorship-requests, or should I instead just email debian-science asking for
a team upload (subject to a review of the package)?

James

Great, thanks.

Pushed.

Ok, I’ll probably come to you first then seeing as creating an RFS bug can be a
nuisance; having the same uploader would make sense, rather than some new
person having to start from scratch with the package every time. Of course, if
you ever want me to find someone else, please say so; I’ll understand :)

Thanks,
James

it is fine, the first upload is always tricky, after things are easier :)

We used to create the source package and from it then create the
needed packages to upload the file to mentors (.dsc debian.tar.gz, a
debian binary and the src package itself), you mean to do this in one
step, we can definitely do that.

The same as above, create needed files on the first step?

Will try that. There were a lot of modifications lately and the debian
src packaging needs some love, time we didn't have to continue
investing, as last two attempts ended with no results.

I was the one doing it, if you checkout a version near the stable
release you will be able to do so, but latest version needs updating.

I'm not sure that we can handle all of the custom stuff just with the
debian build tools, or at least it will be a great effort to do so and
currently I'm not familiar with anyone that can affords this. We were
using ant to do all that stuff, by reusing all the tasks we already
had.
I'm talking for all the tasks in
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi/blob/master/resources/install/build.xml
from line 2000 to the end (4000+) that do the debian stuff.
Maybe mavenizing the whole project can help cleaning things and make
the debian package easier, but I'm not familiar so much with maven
currently and especially with maven + debian.
I think investing time in this direction if its worth it is better,
this way we can rid of most of the patches and custom work that needs
to be done.
We were also discussing internally about a branch with the debian stuff in it.

Personally I don't know. But Ingo Bauersachs and Daniel Pocock have
some progress regarding ice4j and using a package which license is ok,
but need to further check it with them. Libjitis was not updated and
the problem API license hasn't changed.

I will try checking your comments when time permits and comment on them.
