Bug#884697: RFS: logrotate/3.13.0-1 ITA

2018-03-02 Thread Christian Göttsche
What is the best way to form a maintenance team?
Is asking on debian-devel or on another mailing list a proper way?
Are there any further docs regarding (founding) teams than
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/Guidelines ?

You can find instructions how to adopt a package are in the developer
reference. (and in the links in the relevant chapter)

However, as you needed to ask this question: Please note that logrotate is NOT
a beginners package, so you should at least team up with other people and
maintain it in a team.

This is not to turn down your offer, I'd like to avoid that frustation
when the package shows to be more difficult amplified with the importance
of the package so I'd recommend to start with something simpler to get
your feet wet. For example, look at the package how-can-i-help [1],
it will analyse the packages you have installed and make recommendations
where some help might be required, or look at the bug tracker for the
wnpp pseudo-package for orphaned or RFP bugs you might be interested.
(More general hints are in [2])

Hi Christian,

logrotate have now been orphaned.

Now you can do a regular upload, and if you want, adopt the package.*

* in the latter case, please join a team for maintaince. I guess we do
not want logrotate single-person maintained...)

(Therefore Removing the moreinfo tag)

Hallo Christian,

As logrotate is not (yet) orphaned, did you try to get in touch with
Paul?

We've ping Paul in the scope of a MIA process and it has reached a certain
severity already (prod, [2]), I will support that the package will get into
active maintainership soon again.

However, if you did not have got a OK from Paul, you should follow the
"Procedure to salvage a package" section from [1].

Of course, Paul can also chime in here (CC'ed) and tell whether it would
be ok for Chritian to take over logrotate maintaince.

May I also recommend to join a team for logrotate? It is quite an
important package, maybe too important for be only under a single
maintainer. I'd feel better if it would.

Please let me know how you want to proceed! Tagging the bug moreinfo in the
meantime.
